Hi,
It's cold here, but fortunately, no snow yet. I hope you all haven't gotten anymore.
I'm still living in a dream world, I ordered a coffee maker for our camper. I guess I think we will be camping before I know it, Aleka, do you get QVC? I got the Cooks Essentials coffee maker that makes the coffee in the two travel mugs. I think it will be perfect for camping. Today is their cooking day and I've seen about 100 things I can't live without. I've only ordered the coffee maker and think I'll turn that channel off for the day.
I guess I'll go work off some of those calories I ate last night. At least most of the bad stuff is gone from the house. The reason it was here in the first place was DH went to the store with me last night and he wanted junk food. I don't even go down those isles normally, I try to pretend they don't exist. Same with ice cream.
The sun is shining today, but it's windy and very nippy. The temp is only 27 deg. I can't believe this is April!
ANNE, sorry to hear about more deaths from SARS. It is really very scary. We may see a storm too Mon. night with measurable snowfall, but last night we heard it may stay to the south of us. I too am looking forward to seeing your photos. I agree with nikki, your son, Jamie, seems like a very nice young man. You did a good job! Your jewelry sounds lovely. I bet you can't wait to get it. Blue is my favorite color...I even have a Denim Blue car!
nikki, I went out and got the grapefruit juice this morning. My girlfriend said the diet is sort of like Atkins. You cannot eat any fruit (except for the 1/2 grapefruit or 1/2 c grapefruit juice), desserts, bread, and white vegetables (that includes white onions, potatoes, and celery), and sweet potatoes. I assume that also includes cauliflower, it's not listed, but it's white. You can eat carrots (that surprises me because carrots contain a lot of sugar), and any green, red, or yellow vegetables. You can drink diet soda, but make sure it's caffeine free. You stay on the diet for 12 days and stop the diet for 2 days. There is no counting anything, you can eat any kind of meat, in any amount you want, and unlimited amount of acceptable vegetables. Salads (veggies & meat) and any kind of salad dressing you want. I honestly don't know how long I'll be able to do this, as I do need more variety, but I'll stick to the 12 days and see how it goes. If you are interested in trying it, I'll PM you with the diet.
Yes, we get QVC. I haven't bought anything from them in ages. I did buy a set of non-stick frying pans once from them, and I do like them a lot. When DH & I were about to celebrate our 30th anniv. last year, I wanted a diamond eternity band. Well...he priced them, need I say more? I saw a diamonique one on QVC and sent away for it and gave it to him and said, "Here's my eternity band. It looks real that's all that counts.
I'm rambling too much. Have a great Sunday everyone.
Aleka
HI,
Aleka, I think Diamonique looks very real. I have some rings and a cross that I can't tell from my real diamonds. The absolute doesn't look as real to me, it's more colorful or something. Plus, I think Diamonique jewelry is better made. I can't see paying the big prices for diamonds either. I'd rather have other things.
If you want to send me that diet plan, I'd like to have it. But, don't rush. I'm doing a little diet plan I got out of a magazine for now. It's day 2. Not something I can do forever (it low cal), just something to get me back to eating healthier food. Then I'll move on. I don't know if I could eat grapefruit that much, it would be a challenge.
I have to complain about our weather a little. It started to rain ice last night and then snow. We were suppose to get 12", but because the weather shifted and it's warmer here, we are now just suppose to get 3". It's still snowing, so we'll see. But, it's still not as bad as you guys have had it. By next weekend, it's suppose to be back in the 70's again and I'm already dreaming of getting in the garden and planting some seeds. Think I'll put in some lettuce, spinach and a few other things.
nikki, what diet are you doing? I will send you a PM with the diet I am doing now. I don't eat grapefruit, I just drink the grapefruit juice. I am hungry a lot on this diet, even though they say you shouldn't be. Maybe I'm not eating enough food. Time will tell. I need a jump start to lose weight too...I just want to get the vacation lbs. off. How much snow did you get? We're supposed to get another one tonight into tomorrow, but from what they're saying southern New England is supposed to get the brunt of it. I just can't believe this is April!!!
ANNE, how was your weather this past weekend? Did you get a lot of ice?
Aleka,
Thanks for sending me the diet. I think that's funny that you can't eat white onions, but you can eat red and green onions. I too needed to do something rather drastic to get myself back on track. Since my surgery, I don't know what happened. It's kind of like when your pregnant and you think you can eat anything. Before, I thought I really had my thoughts and eating under control. It seemed easy and I couldn't understand why it took me so long to figure it out. Now, I can't seem to catch that thought again. So, I tried this diet from Womans World, (I think that's the magazine). It's only for 3 days and then the other 4 days, your suppose to eat normally, but not over do it. On the 3 days, it's around 960 calories a day and the food is really aweful. But, I can already feel myself getting back in the groove and will switch to the diet your doing next week. After that, I'm not sure, maybe go back to Atkins for awhile. Eventually, I'll start to Somersize again, but I find the food is so good, I'm afraid I'll eat too much. Don't worry, I'm taking vitamins and supplements. I take so many, I could probably live off them alone
It's still snowing here, it's snowed all day. It's so warm that we only have a few inches and it's melting mostly.
Nikki
nikki,
I saw that diet in Woman's World but didn't think I could eat that way. Let us know how much weight you've lost eating this way. I've been doing this grapefruit diet for 3 days and I have never been soooo hungry!! You can't eat between meals, and by dinnertime, I'm ravenous, I could gnaw on the carpet! I was kind of hoping that by the 3rd day my stomach would be used to having less food in it, but so far that hasn't happened. I also went so far as to have a piece of sugar-free chocolate for dessert tonight. I'll see what tomorrow brings. I don't know if I could keep to this diet for a week! Let me know if and when you start the diet and we can compare notes. I too can feel myself getting back into the groove again.
Take care and have a great evening.
I am disgusted, we are in the middle of another snow fall!!!
On Sunday when I went to pick up a few groceries with James
He took a big flip! I can't beleive the date, you would swear it
was January outside!
All the lawns look like ice rinks!! Its just awful. Now with the
new snow on all that ice it will be even more perilous
Another person died of SARS today in Toronto. We are up to
10 deaths, and 189 people with this illness. Everytime you
hear someone cough or sneeze on the subway you feel
nervous
We are suppose to see the temperature start to rise on
Wednesday, I will believe it when I see it!!!
A late evening,
Aleka, I think the reason I started this diet was because I have the food in the house and didn't have to go shop. It was kind of a spur of the moment decision. Plus, having ate that box of crunch and munch the night before, I figured I needed to make some drastic move. I actually feel bigger than when I started. But it's about that TOM so I always gain around 5 lbs for a day or two at this time. I'll let you know when I start the other diet. It won't be til next week.
Anne, I'm glad to hear from you. I'm so sorry to hear about the death. Do they still feel like it's not spreading as fast?
I hope James is OK and didn't get hurt.
Our temps are suppose to start going up tomorrow. I just got back from picking up DD and it's still snowing out there. The accumulation is still less than 3 inches, but it's turning to ice now. A lot of the trees that flower had just bloomed and are all covered with ice and snow. I was thinking I saw my first butterfly just a few days ago. Hang in there, it will be warm and beautiful before you know it.
Guess I'll get to bed, talk to you tomorrow, Nikki
It wasn't supposed to......but it's snowing We haven't got very much....but still!
ANNE, sorry to hear about Jamie's fall. I hope he's alright. Please give him my best. That's awful that somebody else has died of SARS. I hope they come up with some antibiotic soon. I'm with you about winter. How much snow did you get?
nikki, let us know how you did on the 3 day diet. I was so discouraged last night about this diet I'm doing because I've been soooo hungry. Well...they say that on this diet, the first 4 days you won't lose anything, but I was rather curious so I got weighed. I lost 2 lbs. since Sat. I couldn't believe it! That has given me the incentive to keep going! Hopefully today will be better. I think the snow you were getting is part of the system that we're getting now.
Hi,
Aleka, I forgot to thank you for posting that long diet to me. It was a lot of typing, thank you very much.
I weighed and I've lost 3 lbs. since the beginning of the month. Part of it's diet, part of it is the exercising. I'm taking a breather from both today. All I did was the ab work out and I'm just eating sensibly. They say you can eat whatever you want, but I don't think I'll go that far. I had a bagel with low fat cream cheese for breakfast, I think that's far enough. I haven't had that for a long time, it's a favorite. So, it's not low carb, but not a hersey's candy bar either.
This kitty is the funniest thing. She has seperation anxiety if I'm not around. When I go to the basement to do the laundry and she doesn't see me leave, she runs all over the house, back and forth. She does the same thing when I'm in the shower. When I exercise, I shut the door so I don't bother DH. The door won't latch, and she pushes it open. I thought maybe I should just take her in with me, but she figured out how to open the door from the inside too. Then she sits in the hallway and watches me.
Nikkic, your kitty sounds adorable I love animals. They
return our love unconditionally!
Aleka, we got another 3 inches of snow last night.
I am happy to report the weather is starting to improve so by
Wednesday we are going to be above freezing and by the
weekend most of this mess should be gone!
The S.A.R.S. caseload only went up by two today and nobody
died. I am hoping........
The boss told me I could leave after lunch Wednesday. I wonder
whats come over her!!! Our work is really being effected by
the hospital restrictions.
I'm a lurker on this forum, usually, but I have to comment on nikkic's cat story!! I totally think cats get separation anxiety--I used to get up at 4:30 a.m. and walk. One night a friend spent the night w/me and she said she had a 4:30 wake-up call, because as soon as the door shut the cat just went crazy (Baby--the cat--could see me walking when looking out of "her" window). She said Baby was just running from one window to another meowing LOUDLY. I thought that was nice--not that the cat was traumatized, but that she wanted to be close to me!! Who needs kids
I may start posting here more, if y'all don't mind a newbie. My co-worker's husband told her she needs to lose weight before lake season (the woman doesn't weigh enough to donate blood and wears a size ONE), so she decided "we" needed to go on the low-carb diet. I've tried EVERY diet, so I said "What the hey!?" Might as well, it'll be nice to have a diet buddy.
The SARS disease is really scary. I can't imagine quarantining a whole family. My goodness. Y'all be careful!! Especially you Canadian "Chicks," since it seems to be worse up there.
HELLO TO ALICE!! SORRY SO SCARCE LATELY AT THE OTHER THREAD--PLAN ON GETTING THERE SOON.
Cheryl, a BIG welcome!!! Anne and nikki are wonderful friends and I feel very fortunate to have found them. You are more than welcome to join in. I loved your story about Baby. She acts like my dog when she's trying to keep tabs on me.
I was wondering where you were. How did your job interview turn out? Hope you're not too busy at work. Looking forward to your posts!
ANNE, we were lucky with the snowfall, we only got a dusting. It's supposed to get warmer then we're to get rain starting Fri.
I was watching GMA this morning and they were interviewing a newsreporter about the SARS epidemic. She said that the hospitals were quarrantined, no elective surgery, but they were receiving emergency patients. They're hoping by doing this they can contain the virus. Also, people who have become in contact with it are being quarrantined at home. Hopefully this will be over soon.
nikki, you kitty sounds adroable. One of our cats that we took in as a stray was like that too. I found the diet on the internet yesterday, it was word for word as what I sent you. The only difference was on the one I found yesterday, it says you can also have as much cheese as you want except for cottage cheese. The one I got from my friend didn't say anything about cheese. Congratulations on your weight loss!! That's terriffic.
I'm off to the grocery store!
Have a good day everyone.
Aleka
HI!
Cheryl, welcome. We've all tried different woe's and we are on a steady weight loss journey together on this thread. It is wonderful to have the support of friends. I started last August at 274 lbs. and I'm now at 215. I want to get to around 150-170 eventually. My main goal, is to be healthy and feel better. The second is to lose fat and gain muscle.
Please, make yourself at home here. We post just about anything, as you can tell.
Aren't cats funny? One of mine is sitting on may lap right now, watching the words being typed.
Aleka, where is that hospital your talking about?....
I was thinking about this diet that your on and remembered a recipe from Suzanne Somers contest recipe book that is one of my favorites and probably ok for this diet. It's the grilled chicken salad on pg 41. Maybe the bacon would have to be left off, take a look and let me know what you think. I love that salad, the dressing is great. It has cheese that might have to be left off too.
Anne, I hope things are still getting better there.
Our weather is much improved today, sunny and warmer, the snow is melting. Hang on, it will come your way, if it's not already there. You should be able to go home soon, from what you said. Enjoy your afternoon.
I exercised with DH today. He got on the treadmill, I did cardiosculpting, ab tape with Tony Little and the gazelle for 25 min. I'm back on another day of dieting, so far, so good. Think I'll make some sugar free jello for the middle of the night junk food attack that happens every night at 2am.
I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that the hospital was in Canada. I don't know exactly which ones they were talking about because I came into the middle of the interview with Diane Sawyer.
I checked out the chicken salad you mentioned. It would work for this diet I'm doing. The only thing you would have to eliminate if you made it for this WOE is the celery. You can have bacon, and I found out you can have cheese...except cottage cheese. Everything else looks good...HMMMM, I'm glad you mentioned it. I think I'll make that myself. I need a little more variety.
