A present from the UK

Here you are, Shannon. This flak jacket may come in handy.:hug:

Just wondering if there were any more tickets available on the May train. I have to get down a few pounds to get to my red line - you know, the standard winter nibbling issues. I'm back on track, but gotta stay there.

Sending supportive thoughts to Shannon for the difficult role of Step Mom. Keep the faith - this is a good place to whine without affecting the principles in your life.

I must confess that the 14 year old in me wants one of those British flack jackets; don't really need it - it's just so cool.

silverbirch 03-14-2012 10:57 AM

Bill, you are such a teenager. Of course you can have a flak jacket. And I've just got us both tickets for the May train. Here's yours. Spontaneous exercise can be running down the platform as it steams out!

Come on down, Bill, there are still a few tickets left. This should be a great ride.

I made it to water aerobics last night, for the abs workout (ow). Afterward, I tested my shoulder to the tune of 500 yards; it's still a little hinky and clicky. It should be fine as long as I don't get ahead of myself and try to go for thousands of yards next week. I can be really stupid that way. Food's in control; scale is (too) stable.

saef, your wine glasses are beautiful! They make me think of my mom's tiny little juice glasses - who are these people who think a serving of orange juice is 3 oz? ;) I can only imagine how horrified people from that era would be if they could see today's portions!

Dagmar, agree - too-tight shorts are psychologically AND physically uncomfortable, whether you're in them or witnessing them on someone else! I don't have a lot of future obstacles either, just an Easter dinner which isn't an issue, except for the FIL who will try very hard to bust my alcohol budget.

iris - I used to get sparkling water with lime in a standard gin and tonic glass. No one ever questions it. I like your RHB icon!

allison - I read somewhere that modern wine glasses are designed so that the maximum diameter is about 4-5oz, for max surface area. I don't know if it's true for every glass, but it did hold up for my massive balloon goblets and my others, with one exception. Makes it easy to tell measurements!

megan, your upcoming schedule sounds rough. You're absolutely right - that's life and it has to be dealt with. Yikes!

jessica, your DH sounds like mine in that regard. Mine's on the cusp of making some changes too - he's getting tired of me kicking him every night for snoring, which is something that doesn't happen when he's not overweight by 10#. His 53rd bday is May 11, so maybe I can persuade him to run alongside the train. ;)

silver, do they make emotional-flak jackets? I want one in every color!

My crazy younger GFs are signing us up for a June 2 "Filthy 5K". It's an obstacle run with mudpits and water hazards. Lordy!

I lacked all sorts of motivation last night and am sorry to say that instead of losing that half pound I meant to lose, I gained half a pound. I think my lack of motivation was from a very unusual work day--we had our carpets cleaned and I really didn't expect it to take ALL day. I was tired and didn't feel like doing anything once I got home. I read a while and then fixed dinner and then DH and I watched a movie.

Those are nice wine glasses, saef. My Mom used to have something similar. And I actually have some juice glasses that are no more than 4 ounce. Interesting about the diameter of the wine glasses, Becky. I can see that as true with most red wine glasses, but not necessarily with white wine. IDK.

My GF has done several Warrior Dash 5k's that put you through obstacle courses and mudpits. If you go, do not wear good clothes! She said she'd come home and try to wash out the mud and had to call a repairman to come and remove all the pebbles from her washer! Now she goes to Goodwill and picks up clothes and then throws them away. Also, at least with the Warrior Dash, teams are encouraged to dress up--her last one, everyone wore children's blow-up pool toys around their waists (think ducks and things) and blow-up arm bands as well as snorkeling masks and breathers.

At my house we tend to drink wine out of stemmed iced tea glasses. Yeah, too much I guess. :)

Birchie - love the flak jacket! Need it. Want it. :)

Bill - come on in, we've got plenty of space on the train.

Becky - sounds like a nice swim last night! Some of my friends just ran a "Run For Your Life 5k" - it was basically a long mud pit where they were chased by 'zombies'

Allison - you'll get the motivation back. Odd days at work often throw the evening into crazy, I know.

Back up and at 'em today. I've kept food good, am about to go grab a salad for lunch. And maybe order that jacket. ;)

silverbirch 03-14-2012 02:11 PM

It's paid for, Shannon! Pass it on to DH if the colour's wrong for you.

But help! I've just tripped over whilst running for the May train. How could I have been so silly? I saw this ... and ... in the way and did not avoid it at all. I just kept straight on and went down. Cuts and bruises, definitely, which will heal in a few weeks. Jeez. This time last year I was a *lot* smaller.

paperclippy 03-14-2012 02:21 PM

I think someone is trying to sabotage the May Train. My coworker who got married this weekend brought leftover homemade cake in to work, and someone else brought in pie (for pi day). I haven't eaten any . . . yet.

Megan1982 03-14-2012 02:42 PM

Don't do it Jessica! Picture me holding you on the train. I won't let you go! All that sugar will just make you tired in an hour.

Silver, I'm extending my other arm (the one not holding Jessica) out to you to help you hop back on. Come on all, we can do it!

Bill, glad you're on board!

alinnell 03-14-2012 03:00 PM

My thoughts on the pi (pie) day lean more toward chicken pot pie rather than a dessert pie. But even those are terribly calorie-laden. ((sigh))

ICUwishing 03-14-2012 03:02 PM

Have any of you browsed in the other threads? The 300+ forum has a wonderful thread called "10 Days in the Lifeboat" -they're taking things in 10-day segments, laughing about falling out of the boat, having damp days, needing a life preserver. Those on plan are rowing furiously and handing out "warm floofy towels" to those who've fallen overboard. Our train is becoming a lifeboat! :D

Allison - or Shepherd's pie ... all loaded with mashed potatoes ... eek!

Shannon in ATL 03-14-2012 03:13 PM

Pi day... I'm trying not to think about it. I got a recipe yesterday for "Salted Caramel Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Pie" that I don't need an excuse to make.

We are all going to stay on the train!

Well, I'm stepping to the back of the car for a little for tonight. My neighbor is leaving tomorrow morning to go out of town watch her father die in hospice less than a week after her birthday. Tonight she wants DH and I to go out to a hot wing cafe with her and her DH. If it gives her some fun tonight I would go anywhere, even with trying to eat better. I'll just peruse the menu and find my best survivable options.

alinnell 03-14-2012 03:36 PM

I prefer our train to the boat analogy, but they're both cute!

Shannon~it was last March that I went home for my birthday and stayed until my Mom died. Not a happy time, but it happens. Good luck on the wings dinner--(hint, look for a salad).

Megan1982 03-15-2012 08:34 AM

Pi day, that's funny. I'll have to ask my BIL next time I talk to him if anyone brought in pie. He's a physicist/mathematician who works at NASA, surely he was surrounded by pi(e), and he's been doing weight watchers for about 6 months. He's another "man dieter". My mom was talking to him about WW bc she's also been doing it (again) since new year's, finally she stopped and asked how many points he gets to eat. Way more than her!

Shannon, nope, you don't need to make that thing.

Becky, I haven't seen that thread but I will have to go look for it. Lifeboats, trains, whatever, EVERYONE IS STAYING ON (or in). Period. :D
