Howdy everyone!
I worked out extra yesterday, which caused me to EAT extra. I'm trying to create a 1,500 calorie deficit every day in hopes to shed these (hopefully) last ten pounds as quickly as possible, but it's proving to be quite difficult! Today I'm sore and STILL hungry, but I guess I'll force myself to stay on plan somehow - maybe I'll be able to eat less today because I messed up yesterday.

I can't wait until I'm completely maintaining. I know maintenance is a lot like weight loss in the sense that you still have to eat healthy, exercise, and watch your intake, but at least I'll be able to eat more. I have a VORACIOUS appetite!

To everyone who mentioned that getting sick was part of being fat: you know, I rarely got sick at my highest weight... well, correction: I rarely caught colds and bugs. I felt plenty sick in other ways. I got indigestion and heartburn all the time because I stuffed my face with so much junk, which was also bad for my blood sugars (I'm a type 1 diabetic), not to mention my self esteem was completely shattered. I turned being overweight into a complete dramatization and annoyed everyone around me by acting like my life was over. I'm glad the fat is GONE!

EZMONEY, I've always found it mindboggling how some people can get through a day without eating until the evening. I'm sure smoking helped, though. But I have to wake up really early for my job, then I force myself to ride my bike 9 miles to get there (I have a car, but it's great exercise! screw the car!), and by the time I'm at work, I'm ready to eat anything halfway edible. *chomp*

Meg, I agree with Ennay. I'm sure DH is running out of options - make him get you an anniversary ring! 28 years is a long time... if he gets you a good gift each year, then he's a creative one.

Libby, I don't remember your posts before (I'm pretty new to the maintenance forum and have only been on this one since May/June) but CONGRATS on losing 97 pounds! What an awesome accomplishment

You don't know my DH. We don't do anniversary presents and my birthday presents are along the lines of all-weather floor mats for my car (that was for my 50th). It's OK, really -- I'd rather sock the diamond money away for retirement at this point.

Libby, it's always wonderful to see you pop in and update us. You're doing so well with maintenance!!

Shane, just be careful of working out so intensely and not getting enough nutrition. You don't want to start losing muscle at this point. Watch out for the starve/binge/starve cycle, which I've fallen into and it's tough to climb out of. You know, eat more than planned one day, cut way back the next, binge, starve, binge ... not pretty. Don't be afraid of adding in some clean food if you're starving!

I too rarely get sick since I lost the weight and that's despite working in a gym that has to be a cesspool of germs. If I do catch a cold, it's very mild (hope I haven't jinxed myself for the winter! )

Speaking of the gym, I was doing legs this morning and thinking about Baffled because I was doing squats and lunges (her favorites) -- and I thought of a workout she'd love. Hey, Baff -- how about a week of just compound exercises, one per day? I lift weights M - F, so I was thinking: Monday: 100 squats, Tuesday: 100 pullups, Wednesday: 100 lunges, Thursday: 100 pushups, and Friday: 100 deadlifts. As many sets as it takes to reach 100. Sound fun? I think I'm going to try it next week!

Got to run - got a dentist appointment this morning.

Morning, everyone!

I'm back from my morning workout, an intense back day. (Pullups are rapidly becoming my second favorite exercise, after weighted dips. I think I'm so shocked that I can do them that I don't have the mental energy to realize that they're hard.)

Had my first cuppa. Caught up on the threads. Inhaled a banana for breakfast. Now it's time for real work. But, it's a gorgeous, sunny day here in Middle-of-Nowhere. My office looks out over a valley and across a lake to the western hills, where the leaves are just starting to turn. As an older gentleman said to me when I was coming back from the coffee shop, it's a beautiful day to be breathing.

A good day to you, ladies and gents.

Morning everyone!

Meg, that's a ghastly idea! 100 lunges? I think I'd fall over in a jelly-like heap. Even unweighted. I did squat a 15 rep set of 110lb on Tuesday. I'm getting soooooo close to squatting my body weight!

Shane, have you thought about taking the opposite approach? That is, losing the last 10lb through something that looks much more like maintenance than dieting? Do plenty of exercise, but keep your eating-calorie deficit low, like 300 below maintenance. The weight will come off one way or another, but you'll feel less like you're suffering and be less inclined to binge/starve. I've lost about 5lb since I started maintenance and I've pretty much been eating like a normal (healthy) person.

I didn't get sick much when I was overweight, and I'm hoping I don't start getting sick now. But my bf and I were talking yesterday about how much more mental clarity we have now that we eat so healthily. We're both academics and so mental fogginess really, really makes a difference in how well we're able to work. The healthy, balanced diet seems to help dramatically with energy levels and focus. It's nice.

Have a nice Thursday, everyone!

Meg~you and your DH are a lot like me and mine! When my birthday comes around I ask if he plans on anything (it's always a "no") so I will go shopping for myself and I usually make reservations for dinner! One Christmas, he bought me what I wanted, but made me wrap it!! I think only once did he ever surprise me (and boy did he do a good job!!!). I guess it was too much work for him, though! I've never gotten another surprise. I'll even go so far as to hand him a catalog with the item I want circled. He just says to order it!!! I guess it's okay....I don't really have to shop for him because of it (but I do anyway).

Oh, and 100 lunges? Wow. My knees would fall off!

Yep, Allison, your DH and mine are cut from the same cloth. It's OK though, he's just a wonderful husband and I adore him even more than I did 28 years ago.

Baff -- "ghastly"? I'm bereft.

Wow, Meg and alinnell, your DH stories kind of remind me of this:

So, I'm in a relationship... with another girl. The nice thing about dating another girl is that there's never a lack of romantic notions. We know exactly what we want - flowers, extravagant dinners, love letters, bubble baths with candles and champagne - yeeeah, all the gushy cheesy stuff. The downside, of course, is that two girls = TWICE the emotions and TWICE the drama, whereas men are simple creatures.

Anyway.

I buy my girlfriend flowers randomly. Every time I do, all the men in my complex who notice ask me what I did wrong! I must have messed up baaaad if I'm getting her roses, huh? The answer is always the same: "Nothing. These are random." Even though they've been through that routine with me at least three times, the amount of shock is the same every time!

I told my mom about this and she cried. She says my dad hasn't gotten her flowers since PROM!

*Drops jaw at Meg's workout idea.* I'm going to have to try that... 100... thing!

baffled, I like your idea, but I think I'm just too impatient. I.want.these.ten.pounds.off.NOW! On top of that, I really want to lose 20 more pounds and be down to 125. I was thinking that once I get to 135, I'll take a more relaxed approach to hit 125. I really, really want to be thin looking - not unhealthy or unattainable, just slim. A size 4 would be nice - I was around there before I gained weight and loved the way I looked. I'm a 6-8 right now (large 6, small/medium 8).

LOL. I was so horrified by your idea of 100 lunges that I gave up my workout today after the first 2 supersets and skipped the lunges altogether! I figure if you're doing 100, that's enough for both of us. (But I did do all 3 sets of 15 squats with the 110lb today, so that's still something. )

My bf never buys me flowers either, despite the fact that I have frequently mentioned that I would like him better if he did. He thinks it's a waste of money, and there, sadly, I have to agree with him. Still, it would be nice...

Baff, if you can do 3 x 15/110 on squats, then you can easily do 4 - 6 reps at your bodyweight. If you're nervous about trying for the first time, ask your trainer friend for a spot. Go for it!!

And if you won't do 100 lunges with me, I guess I'll just have to do 200 for the both of us next week. And it's all your fault! I'll just have to grumble about bad knees and being old enough to be your mother ....

Shane, I have so many evil workout ideas! Here's one for you to play with: do one crunch, flop over and do one pushup. Back over and do two crunches. Flop over and do two pushups. Three crunches, three pushups ... and keep going without stopping up to ten crunches and ten pushups. If that's easy, go for 20.

OMG, lol, your workout ideas are making my body cringe just thinking about them. I've always been more of an endurance athlete - I would much, much rather jog 3 miles or hold a plank pose for 90 seconds than sprint 1/2 mile or do any of that other stuff that ya'll have talked about. I know it's important to challenge your lungs and push your limits, but it makes me so tired to just think about it...

BF used to get me flowers randomly the first year we dated. Now that we're over two years old, it's been a while. He picked wildflowers for me a few times - that was SO sweet. Baffled, you should tell your BF that hand-picked flowers are just as sweet and much more economical. With presents, he mostly instructs me to go to the jewelry store and make a wish list or I drop really, humongously obvious hints (this is fine with me as I'm fairly picky). But sometimes he surprises me. For my bday in July, he remember that at Christmas I had mentioned wanting a wok and got me one. Even I forgot I wanted it (but I love it)! Shane, I'm sure your GF appreciates the flowers, that is really nice of you.

Oooh, just checked the weather and we may be in for a tropical storm party this weekend. Weeeee!!!

It's only 1:40 and I've already eaten all my snacks for the afternoon. Darn. I'm munchy/sleepy today.

Ladies, I definitely spoke too soon about rarely getting sick anymore. By yesterday afternoon, I had a terribly sore throat and a cough, fever and congestion. I wanted to go to the Dr. but felt too darn sick to try to even go. At 3:30 this morning, I was wheezing so badly I couldn't sleep. I took a cool shower to try to lower my fever a little. It then took me til 9AM to have enough energy to get dressed (I just kept laying on my bed with my towel on and wheezing). I finally drove myself to the doctor. My blood count showed a very bad bacterial infection and my white blood count was 22,000 according to my Dr. He put me on Levaquin, Albuterol inhaler and some codiene cough syrup. I feel like death warmed over. My chest X-ray showed a little bronchitis but thankfully no signs of pneumonia. I've got some nighttime Theraflu waiting on me now, I hope it knocks me out and I can get some rest.

The only good thing at the Dr.'s office was my weight, 139 lbs. (probably cause I feel too sick to eat).

HI LADIES ~

Not much going on here. Spent the last couple of days with a dog that I think is "faking it" She has had leg troubles, after an injury a couple of years ago. Well, being the "fool" DAD "fool" that I am I go with x-rays and the whole bit...my vet didn't push this on me...I just needed to know if I could walk her or not. My new "better choices" includes long dog walks. Well, long story short and $500+ later she was OK...probably just some soft tissue damage. Today she is running around like nothing was wrong. Could be the antiflammatory drugs though.

I have dropped another pound to 178...and maintained it for a whole 2 days. That is probably going to go up though. I haven't had any beer since a couple last Thursday...until tonight. I am on my second...and last...I got a call from my sis tonight. My mom is in the hospital again, they give her less than a year to live...no surprise there...but...well just the reality that it is coming soon...well...some of you know.

Anyway, I am going to keep it light here and just THROW OUT MY PRAYERS for all of you tonight and catch up tomorrow!

I am OK.....just a little down. EDIT ~ LILY ~ Forgot to wish you along to feeling better!
