I was noticing there were over 4,000 view on our piece of 3fc, so seems like people are curious at the very least.

Yeah, I saw that too, Obi. The last IE# had over 9,000. I sure wish they'd make it a sticky (or whatever the heck they're called, LOL).

I am swamped.

Trying to buy a new car to replace the one that broke down in between showing up for jury duty, my new boss is getting a cot for us at work (I'm not joking), and as I type the locksmith is at my house drilling out the lock because my mother locked herself out of my house.

At some point when I have time to stop and take a breath I'll re-join you guys.

Take care

Praying for you, Fiddler, that life slows down a bit. Hi, Beth and Obi. Good to see you here.

Has anyone ever heard of Michelle May, MD? She has a book called Am I Hungry? or something like that.

Nothing major going on here. I figured out there is a whole food grocery store about 3 blocks from my job. Besides a regular supper market they have a sushi bar, pizza, indian, spanish, salad bar, hot bar, cold bar...you get the idea and whole food.

I won't say I am a 100% "whole foods" but seems like each day I get closer and closer. I was visiting my parents last night and was at my grandmothers (she lives across the street) and everything I picked up seemed to say hydrogenated this and high fructose that......Even the stuff that said healthy for you...seemed ot have more crap than a little bit.

I have to go back tonight and decided to do take out from the whole food spot and take it with me.

Still doing IE and doing ok. Weigh-in is next week, so excuse me if I wig out.

Hey Guys,

Here's a bit of an update on me:

After I was sick (stomach flu) I had a dramatic 5 pound weight loss, but it came back on as soon as I was able to eat again. And when I did start eating again, I found that I was hungry more than I was before I got sick. I guess my body needed the nourishment after going through that mini starvation period. Anyway, I was starting to worry that I.E. Had stopped working. Then I found the old diet mentality creeping in. I started obsessing about food again and started thinking I had gained weight because I was eating 'bad' foods. Then I noticed I was wanting to eat when not hungry. Like I wanted to punish myself for gaining weight or something. The old 'you're a failure at this' thinking started to kick in. But I stuck with it anyway. And guess what, when I got on the scale this morning I noticed I was down half a pound! It's good to see the scale going the other way again. I think I'm going to avoid the scale when I'm sick or around the time of AF. Maybe I should start weighing myself weekly instead of daily. It's amazing how a temporary gain can screw up my thinking.

Bonnie, Good to hear you nipped it in the bud. It has been so cold here in WI for about 3 weeks that I am wondering if severe cold causes you to be hungrier. It would make sense that your body would use more calories just to keep warm. We even have trouble keeping our house warm with the wood that we use. But it is supposed to warm up here this next week. It didn't get above 0` some days for a few weeks. It's been a long time since this has happened. Years ago my dh said it didn't get above 0` for 3 weeks once.

Well, since we are all friends here, I have decided to amuse myself by using inappropriate icons in this post.
I am continuing to read The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan.
I am very very very very (is that enough very's?) interested in a diet (diet meaning what we eat, not diet meaning strict plan to lose weight) which is based on a different kind of conscience. Not the kind of conscience that I keep reading about on the boards about someone feeling guilty if they eat cookies or something like that, but a socio-economic/karma type of conscience. What am I voting for with my dollars when I buy _______________ (whatever it is.) I am finding that I no longer look at food and evaluate based on its nutritional composition but I think: where did it come from, who is profiting by this sale, what are the feelings that were put into this food as it was either manufactured, picked, etc.
I am amazed to learn of all the implications of the purchases of corn based products that we make. It's certainly not intuitive, however I think that this kind of conscience, combined with listening to my body and not eating if my body is not saying it needs it, should result in a lean person. I hope so.

By corn based do you mean animals that are fed corn? Sorry if that's not what you meant.

Hi Carol -
I mean the corn-fed animals as well as other corn products... we have created a monoculture (or a diculture if you include soybeans) in the midwest that the earth is adapting to with disadvantages.. I realize that the agritechiness involved is necessary to support such an increasing population, yet we have had a corn surplus in this country for years. Corn grown by farmers who are barely making a living and caught in cycles of needing to increase their yield because corn prices are low and believing the only way to do that is with more pesticides and herbicides. Instead of encouraging farmers to plant other crops, the seed and pesticide companies (Monsanto, Cargill and ADM) have been funding research to come up with novel things to get from corn. High fructose corn syrup has replaced sugar in almost all prepared food products, and the new corn derivatives are pretty amazing. The new Z-trim fat substitute is made from corn. It's not that corn in and of itself is evil or not nutritious, but our extensive use of it, and the effects of that on our land, and who is gettting rich by it, (the agri-chem companies, not the farmers) is a sad story. But yes, corn fed livestock is an example of novel ways to use up corn. Cows are not by nature corn-eaters. Again, that Michael Pollan book is getting to me. But this stuff fascinates me and I am sorry to bore anyone with it - I majored in Crop and Soil Science in college; I am interested in what is best for the planet, I'm interested in foods, in science in general, I admit to being prejudiced against big businesses, and well.... I need to shut up or you guys will throw me out.

I wish I had majored in horticulture in college because where my dh and I went had good program (Kansas State University). He was in vet school and I was in teaching. But now I love gardening and find it so interesting. When you're young you really don't know what to major in.......well a lot of people don't.

Yes, I agree, Carol-when you're really young it's hard to know the best thing to do.
But as for corn based products that are manufactured for the $$ gain by some big business....I am not going to buy them. And I am buying goat milk, and goat cheese and cheese made from milk of grass-fed cows. And I shudder to think of all the $$ I have contributed to Coca-Cola and Pepsico over the years! No more!!

Hello anybody home? I know fiddler is camping out at work. How is everyone else?

I spent the weekend with my parents and failed miserably when it came to IE.I didn't over eat alot, just ate when I wasn't hungry. I realize part of the problem is the social area is in the kitchen. I think I spent 80% of the time there and when I was bored...I ate. At my house I only go into the kitchen when I'm hungry....lessoned learned for next time.

Other thing I noticed I don't like any of they healthy stuff they've bought. Some kind of mayo made with canola and lactaid free milk. I couldn't deal with either.

I am starting to think my taste buds are becoming readjusted to what things are supposed to taste like, Before IE I don't think I ever encountered anything too salt or sweet. Never noticed.

I had a slice of carrot cake over the weekend and just hated the frosting because of all the sweetness.

Constantly changing.

Weigh in wednesday. I have managed not go go bonkers which is good. woo hoo
