I'm so happy i can finally post here ---- i got my GWF today! I had to order and have it shipped to my Mom, then she had to mail it to me. Ugh. I feel i waited for ever.
I got it all synced with the computer.. now to work on the wrist monitor. Also, i don't care much for the calorie logging (and only see where to log for 3 days) on GWF. I use LoseIt on the iTouch and love that so might just stick with the one.
I fell on my walk yesterday and hurt my ankle (and my other ankle, both thighs, one shin and my wrist... lol) so i won't burn much the next few days but i'm curious to see what my normal sloth-like day burns :)

Congrats on getting the GWF! I just got mine this past Monday and I love it:) Btw, if you click on your resources tab and then preferences, you can switch to the daily logging. Take care with your ankles and good luck:goodluck:

So I experienced my first 'bad' day on Friday. I ate way too much and didn't meet my calorie deficit goal. However, once I put the meal into the computer (it was pizza that I overdid), it motivated me to do a longer walk than normal. It could have been worse.

The good news is that I just accepted it and moved on. Today I kicked major booty on my calorie burn and nearly doubled my deficit goal. So huzzah!

I have a question about the GWF, can it measure calories burned while riding a stationary bike. Mine doesn't have those annoying arm things, I sit and read a book while riding so my top half isn't really moving much while I do it so I don't know if it can measure that.

L144S 05-10-2009 07:53 AM

put the go fit on your calf instead of your arm.

jajabee 05-10-2009 02:40 PM

Yeah, I just move it to the muscle part of my left calf when I'm on a stationary bike, with the logo pointed up the same way as it is on my arm. Works great.

Hi everyone!
I found this thread while investigating the GWF, and have been having fun reading about your experiences with it. I purchased one through Dick's Sporting Goods (dickssportingoods.com) the other day, as they were having a 2 day sale, and I jumped on it because it was 20% off the same price as Amazon currently. Seems it should be here in a day or 2. Yea!

So I'm thinking...should I have gotten the display device? Anyone have it and regret getting it because they never use it? Anyone have it and can't live without it? Anyone have it but could take it or leave it?
I only got the armband, but I'm thinking it would be nice to have the display too. I know you can use the armband without the display, but I think it would be really nice to have....

I really want one of these arm band trackers but I am a little confused between the BodyBugg and the GoWear Fit. I read some where they are the same thing?? I dont get it.

I've figured out that they are both made by Bodymedia, and they also make the sensewear. Each is a little different in their features. You can read comparisons somewhere, bodymedia.com shows the 3.

I chose the Gowear fit beacuse of the price point, and I don't need/want the trainer consultation that comes with the bodybugg. It also looks like the bodybugg has a higher monthly rate maybe? Each one is basically the same with slight differences depending on what extras you are wanting out of it. :)

I use BB (since late Nov 08 with v2 now with the v3) and recently received the digital display as a gift and like it a lot. I'd say it is not essential (unless one cannot upload their data enough) but it is handy/interesting/motivational for me.

barefootnikki 05-11-2009 01:17 PM

I agree with Gretchen... it's interesting. It's also cool to show friends and family, so they can see what/how you are trying to get healthy.
I don't wear mine all the time but it is nice for a walk or say i have a lot of housework and it's fun to see what i do during that time.

And thanks Meeky --- i have it set to log every day now.

I do have a question --- anyone here consuming less calories than what their RMR (resting metabolic rate) is? I had a VERY lazy day yesterday (555 steps... and that was a lot.. sunburned and resting)... my calories burned was just over 2000. That makes me think that is pretty much my bare minimum and i've read we should NOT consume less than our RMR.
Thoughts?

I'm so glad I found this thread! I have a question ( or a few) for the seasoned wearers out there... I'm using the GoWear fit, and I weigh 190. For giggles, I entered that I'd like to lose 2 pounds a week to start, and it's telling me I need to eat 2000 cals and burn 3000. That's all well and good, but I'm used to eating 1600 max while dieting and feel stuffed trying to make the 2000. Buring the 3K isn't a problem, but I'm worried that eating 2K is wrong. Does this seem right?

I am currently consuming about 1250 calories per day and try to burn at least 2500 calories per day. I have been at it since last Monday and lost a few pounds already, which is a great accomplishment for me. I found a calculator and it said my RMR is about 1550. Every time I have lost weight, it has been when I ate about 1200-1250 calories per day and exercised at least 3-4 times per week. I know some people will disapprove of going below my RMR, but many people do it, such as those on Medifast, and Medifast has been around for a long time and is recommended by doctors.

When you told the GoWear Fit that you wanted to lose 2 pounds per week, it just calculated your target calories burned for the day as 1000 calories more then when it thinks you should eat. The math behind it is "1000 calories x 7 days = 7000 calories/2 pounds" as you have to have a deficit of 3500 calories to lose one pound, so a deficit of 7000 calories should result in a 2 pound loss per week.

I don't think that you should eat until you are stuffed. If you are comfortably full at 1600 or 1800 calories, then stop eating...it's kinda like the "clean plate club", so many people just eat because there is food in front of them and have been told they shouldn't leave any food on the plate, and they do not listen to what their body is telling them and stop eating when they are full. If your stomach is telling you that you are full, stop eating :)

BTW, I am jealous that burning 3000 calories per day "isn't a problem" for you! What do you do everyday that burns so many calories? I have to do cardio for at least an hour or have a lot of errands to run just to get to 2500!

Thanks for your answer! As far as burning the 3K, I have the most active 2 year old in the world. Actually, what finally motivated me get serious about weight loss was when a distant relative blurted out "You should be thin" at a family function in which i chased my toddler all day in a non-child proof backyard with a pool. I never ever get a chance to sit down.

Meeky2004 05-14-2009 09:07 PM

It's been almost two weeks since I got my GWF and I lost 8.2 the first week! I'm so excited! It helps me to push myself even harder at the gym. There were so many times when I would've just called it a day and now that I know how much I've burned I stay focused. How is everyone else doing so far?
