Default Real Life Bubble Girls

Hello All,

I joined this group for support and ideas on how to finally win this battle with weight I have had all my life. I am 32 and about 20 pounds away from my goal weight. My food choices are limited because I am allergeric / intollerant to a long list of foods. My doctor told me that my weight could be causing my fertility issues. I have also been vegan for two months for health reasons. I have been vegetarian since highschool but vegetarian / vegan does not always mean healthy. It seems I can lose weight great until I hit 160. After that I hit a wall, no matter what i am eating and how much I am working out.

I am responsible for all the cooking in the house. I love cooking and creating new tasty treats. My husband informed me last night that he would like to lose 50 pounds. He is gluten intolerant like myself. I have no clue what to cook for him because he will not adopt my vegan lifestyle. I would never force him to either. I cook meat (no pork) for him but he never has a clue what he wants to eat. I usually just throw random ingredients into the crockpot and hope it tastes good to him. lol

Anyway, i look forward to reading all the great ideas this community provides. Together, we will all hit our goals.

Welcome and good luck! I'm just curious, but how hard is it to be vegan if you are gluten intolerant? I have several relatives with that problem to varying degrees, and it seems like if they were vegan, too, they wouldn't have many food options!

Hello RMatS,

At first, being vegan and gluten intolerant was difficult. But after I accepted that both were necessary for my health, I stopped focusing on what I couldn't have and started discovering all the things I could. This opened up a whole new world of tasty delights. I have made some amazing things out of everyday gluten free, vegan ingredients. I am somewhat of foodie and novice home chef. When my mind is not focused on important things, I am thinking of the next recipe or reading about food. Just today, I made sour cream out of sunflower seeds and mayo out of cauliflower. I used that to make onion dip and ranch dip. Both recipes still need tweaking. My husband tasted it and said “Not bad.” That is his language for I’m almost there. Lol. This morning, I made my husband drive me to the store so I could get vegan wine for a recipe I dreamed about. lol He is always willing to taste my experiments and clean my dishes.

My love of food is the downfall of my weight loss.

Hi Jen!
Congrats on your success so far -looks like you're on your way to that healthier you - the support you need is here - we'll all be here to cheer you on.

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated, inspired and entertained! There's also info and first hand advice on different eating plans and exercise to help get through the ups and downs. The Vegetarian Chicks forum might be of interest to you - you would be an awesome addition with all your food creativity. You could be a great help and support to others here that have the challenges of food allergies as well.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a few months myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals,
Lee
