Excedrin has caffeine in it, where other over-the-counter pain relievers don't, so sometimes it works the best. If you want to stay off caffeine entirely, try an ice pack - it might give you some relief....
You mentioned licking salt. I will be starting IP this Saturday and have read a lot about the salt intake. Haven't quite figured out what that's about yet. But, I'll do it!
I stopped drinking soda this week and have set a goal of drinking 65 oz of water a day. Wanted to get a headstart on what I know is coming up.
Good luck !
Thanks, I don't drink pop or coffee, i think it was just the sugar withdrawls and maybe needing more salt too.....none today though so that was nice....

Restarting today. I lost 30 lbs two years ago, but have gained it all back and then some. I've tried restarting a few times in the past couple of months, but stress made me go off program. My parents are now in a nursing home together, I have a new hairstyle so bring on the new body! Time to do something good for me! My goal is to be thinner for my 50th birthday in February - I can do it!

I live in Whitby, Ontario and I'm using alternatives. Looking forward to this journey together!

Locks - sounds like you had a good plan in place for work, that's awesome! And I guess being busy stops you from snacking too.

------

I am staying on track so far, it's only my 8th day on program but I feel like it's been waaaayyyy longer than that! I was having some pretty wicked sugar cravings last night, especially as our son still has a giant bag of Halloween candy. I didn't give in, just grabbed some extra water and pouted for a few minutes, hahah!!

Today the plan is to stay warm, on track, and HAPPY!

Hey everyone! I started last Friday, doing traditional IP. I'm 25 from Texas and have about 50 lbs to lose.

Things have drastically improved from the weekend, where I was starving ALL THE TIME and felt really horrible. I heard that this was to be expected, so I am glad that my hunger has been greatly reduced. I still get a little hungry when I wake up and in between breakfast and lunch, but it is very manageable.

I am in a bit of a bad mood today, though, because my coach wants me to use ketostix every day. Yesterday, I was around the "small" amount of ketones, and today it looks lighter. I am following protocol 100%, no restricted foods whatsoever, and I am supposed to keep my carbs under 25g. That is another thing, however, because I find it almost impossible. I can pull off 30 a little more easily.

I don't own a scale, so I can't really weigh myself to see if this has been effective. Not seeing evidence that I am properly in ketosis is really bumming me out and making me question everything. Otherwise, my willpower has been ok. But that stupid stick made my morale plummet.

Any advice or people who have had a similar situation? Encouragement would be greatly appreciated because I feel so disappointed.

Yay for other restarters! I'm on Week 2 and weighing in officially at home tomorrow. But, I don't think I've lost weight. Maybe I need to cut out the restricted (bars). I've been doing well, and I feel really good. I want to keep trying Phase 1, whether I lose or not, for a couple more weeks. The plan is to easy as far as making decisions goes!

Courtney, the sticks are not accurate for everyone. I've never gotten a positive reading, and I was on Phase 1 for three months in 2012. I was definitely in ketosis.

I dont think its important to lay too much trust in the sticks....alot depends on the water you drink too......plus check the date on the sticks, they expire fast, and your not to keep them in the bathroom either. I remember reading there are other ways you can tell when your in fat burning mode...dry mouth, metal taste, and loss of hunger. I think as long as your following the program it will work, with of course ups and downs along the way, like life!

Sometimes I swear some coaches just want to sell products. I am glad I can go to a place and buy just want I want no questions asked. I love IP snacks, for me they are worth the investment. Everything else I get from Nashua Nutrition, sometimes I get lucky and don't have to pay customs!!!

So many different methods and information from coaches......I think here is where the real guts of IP is...There are up to date coaches here, and plus people who have had great results.

When I had the sticks i was like obsessed with them....was I reading it rights, etc etc..sometimes had to pee so bad in the morning, I was like omg i forgot the stick lol.....or sometimes if i had to wake up to pee I was thinking god my morning stick reading will be messed up. Its bad enough I was on the scale everyday, plus the stick..........now I will try to keep things simple...hopefully lol

No worries, Courtney, I had the same experience as locopollo. You can actually burn up the ketones and not excrete any in your urine and still be in ketosis and losing fat. I'd ditch the Ketostix and just let your eyes glaze over and nod nicely when the coach goes on about this. Luckily my coach was very enlightened (as was the whole clinic) and totally up to date with all protocol and in constant contact with head office for any questions that I had. They were the best experience ever, it's too bad that not all clinics/coaches are so connected to head office and 'on plan' themselves. As long as you are following protocol and staying 100% it works.

Thank you for the encouraging responses! I think I will ditch the stix, or maybe do one or two a week for s--- and giggles.

I don't have many of the common side effects of ketosis. I'm really hot in the morning, not very hungry, and my urine smells like vitamins (sorry for TMI!!!), and my hands are pretty dry, but that could be due to the changing weather. I'm hoping that after my first WI on Friday that I will have more faith that it's working.

@locopollo -- Hope it's OK to ask…. When you did IP back in 2012, were you going from 145-120? If so, do you mind sharing approximately how long you were on P1 back then? And if there is stuff you're doing differently this time around? So appreciate all of you experienced posters!

Hi! Today is my first day, so far so good. I am full of so many different emotions it's nuts. I'm excited, nervous, embarrassed, angry haha I have been on IP before and it did work for me, I just quit it before reaching my goal and I didn't phase out so I ended up gaining everything and more back. But I also feel hopeful and determined, so I am in it this time for the long haul. This page is such a great resource and the support from everyone is unreal. Thank you all!!

I am doing traditional IP. I am 32, from Alberta Canada and I think I have about 60 pounds to lose.
