Just wondering still how different is IP plan for men than women? Is there some place here where we could view the plan. He's more active than I am, so don't think he could survive on what I'm eating!

As far as I can tell, there really isn't any difference for men & women except that men get a larger lean protein measure and an extra packet or two (but that depends on the amount they weigh because larger women get extra packets at first too). They will probably be eating more lettuce though, hahaha. Liana |
Been off radar for some time but doing very well on IP. I got down to current weight and have been enjoying some off plan "delicacies" such as beer, chips, and coffee creamer for the past few weeks after hitting the 45 pound milestone. My weight has only fluctuated up 3 lbs but I can get it back down in a couple days. I enjoy "testing" my body with this diet, whether or not I am on or off plan, to see how it reacts and how far off plan I can go. I have yet to introduce exercise into my routine on a consistent basis which is a real barrier to overcome. IP has worked so well alone but I know I need exercise for general health as well as toning the muscles. I turn 51 later this month and I can hear the age clock ticking knowing that I need to take control of how I would like to look when I'm 60.
I bought an e-book called "Convict Conditioning" which is weight training through body weight exercises. I like it because of the exercise progressions and the simplicity of the routine - 4 exercises to start and 2 get added later. I can start with wall push-ups at step 1 and get my muscles and ligaments adjusted without killing myself with a regular push-up and getting discouraged. I don't see myself ever doing a one-arm, handstand push-up which is the final progression but who knows. At least I know I should be able to get into decent shape, albeit slowly, without ruining my body along the way. With a birthday coming up, I am putting size 36 pants and a new belt on the list which I haven't worn in at least 10 years. I haven't bought new pants since I started IP and the jeans are looking funny with butt pleats. Keep up the good work everybody and enjoy doing something that you couldn't do before starting IP. JW good to hear you're doing well and working towards your goal. Last night I realized one of my triggers was college. I've struggled with finishing up for YEARS, well two decades actually. Jan 2013 I tried an online class and crashed and burned. I tried again this year and did awesome for the first half of the class then I just didn't get it anymore, math is a weakness. This happened to be the same time I was on vacation so I enjoyed the good food. Started having a burger and fries but giving the fries to the kids. Then it went down hill from there. Today is day three and when I put my pants on today the were easy to button up. Not so on Monday. That made me feel good.

Hi everyone,
I first tried the IP diet in September 2011. My beginning weight was 233 LBS. By January 2012 I was down to 196 LBS. I quit the diet soon after my son was born in February 2012. Physical activity came to a complete halt as I turned into a home body enjoying life as a first time father. My diet went out the window and I gained all the weight back and then some. My health began to really suffer. I developed severe sleep apnea and to top it all off I suffered a significant back injury at work. At that point weight loss seemed impossible. In May of this year my wife and I had a heart to heart conversation. She was really worried about me and to help me out she suggested that we both begin the IP Diet (now called Essential Protein). I began the diet on 08 May and weighed in at 251 lbs and 44% body fat. As of last week my weight is back down to 203 lbs and 29% Body fat. My goal is to be at around 18%-20% which is about 33 lbs more. Over the last week my weight loss has come to a stand still which makes it harder for me to stick to it. My wife is doing this with me so she's my anchor when the going gets tough. |
Hey Pobzlo, losing 48 lbs, that is fantastic. I know for me it has been alot easier to do the IP diet with my wife than it would have been if I was doing it alone. I can commiserate with you about sleep apnea, even after losing weight I will always need to use a CPAP.
