ip alternatives
So I have done ideal protein before but the cost is so difficult to do all the time and I got bored with the food plus im not a huge drinking person so I never tried the shakes but I would be interestd in doing so now, as well as the bars..im trying to find out alternatives and I donot know how to start to do this.i have tried reading everyones posts but I am confused..Ihave found the nashua nutrition website, is alot of people ordering food on here?...my main concern is how do you base an alternative off of a ip product..do u compare nutrition info from ip products and just find something similar? And the ip products that are restricted you would find a production nutritional ly thesame and just know that too would be restricted?...im getn married injuly 2014 and want tostart up the ip program again because I did well before but gained more back when I quit and want to just do alternatives

I use Syntrax Nectar and Quest Bars (look for the Quest Bar thread to see which ones comply as restricted and which don't). It takes more work to use alternatives because you have to do your research. IP coaches have it all laid out. So we pick. No work and pay more or do some work to pay less. |
Hi! My SIL has been doing IP for a few weeks with great results, so I am going to start doing this on my own, so I have been perusing all these threads. I am going to try the ISOpure zero carb protien powder, syntrax nectar protien powder, and have ordered a few walden farms dressings to eat my veggies. I am looking into what bars to try for meals on the go, and wondering if anyone has found any UNrestricted bars? I am going to get some Quest bars, but as I understand it, these are a restricted item. Thanks for all of the helpful info so far, and thanks in advance for any ideas!

Alternatives
Can anyone compile a list of websites they go to to get the alternatives products
I will hopefully be able to read all the posts but I cannot at time |
Hi anp1984, I have just started this, but I ordered quest bars and walden farms products from netrition, and some different flavors of protien powder from Amazon, not sure that this is cheapest, just wanted to try some variety. Hope this helps!

Syntrax nectar.... Me too! I did a lot of research and this is one of the best isolates out there! And the cost is really reasonable. I do have some Walmart stuff I bought that I use once in awhile. It is chocolate and peanut butter. It isn't quite as good of a protein as Syntrax but a nice treat! I use pure Pure Protein bars and Detour bars. Watch out for Adkins!!!! Too many carbs. So many of the protein bars on the market are LOADED with carbs!

I have searched for this and not had a lot of luck, but my apologies if it has been asked and answered. I am looking for some recipes for an IP equivalent food that one can make without the packets. I do not like Splenda and would prefer to use stevia so something I can make myself would at least give me the option occasionally. I know that by adding protein powder etc. it should at least be theoretically possible, anyone have any ideas...

IdealProeinNewbie thank you for leading me to this forum, I have placed an order from nashua that will be here tomorrow.
I also went to GnC since I was in another town for doc appointment yesterday. I purchased the pumpkin spice lean shake 25 it is yummy. I also purchased 3 types of quest bars to try out. I have heard good things about them so will try those out soon. The pumpkin spice is 170 calories 50 calories from fat (less than 30%) Fat grams 6 Net carbs 6g Protein 25g That = unrestricted correct? |
PUMPKIN SPICE!!!!! My day has been made! Have to find me some of that!!!
|
misstiff: I would treat the pumpkin spice shake as a restricted.
Most IP non-restricted are 80-120 calories, with just 2 or 3 products being 150. So, with 170 calories per shake it should be restricted. |

Based on calories, personally, I'd count as restricted but some folks will go to 200 before they count as restricted. Additionally, it has about 10 g more protein than most IP products so it isn't really equivalent. I did buy some. I'll probably just have 2/3 of it at one time to count as an unrestricted. |
I stopped at GNC to pick up the pumpkin shakes, and was sooo excited to try them.
Had one this morning....and they are "meh" Just ok, I was not blown away. Glad I only bought 4, he tried to get me to buy the whole case. My favorite RTD drinks are still the IP strawberry banana and the mango. |
I am going poor eating less food... what?!
Hi Dolls!
I'm a long time lurker, but first time poster. You guys give so much information on the forums, usually my questions are answered right away and I never felt the need to post or create an acct before. So thanks for that. :) I was reading through the many pages of the original alternative thread before I realized there were newer ones so I apologize if this has already been touched on but I haven't quite made it through this thread yet. Anyway... I checked out a couple of the sites mentioned for alt. IP products and was impressed by the selection they carried. Specifically I looked at Nashua and Lindora. The prices looked reasonable enough til .... a) Lindora doesn't ship to Canada?? and b) What I have to pay Nashua for shipping ($25-30) + the discounted "IP" foods = what I'm already paying at the clinic except the $15/wk coaching fee for crappy coaching. So my question is-- how are the Canadians on here managing to still save money with alternatives? I'd like to stick to similar drinks as IP- specifically the orange and mango one because I miss fruit more than anything and to me the orange tastes just like juice. I love it in the morning, it makes me feel normal. Before IP I was using a tub whey protein with these stats: Calories: 115 Fat: 0g Total Carbs: 1g Protein: 27g Downside is there is sucralose. I was a little concerned about there being too much protein though as I've read this can slow or stop weight loss. Furthermore, like I said, I really do like the IP drinks and snacks I've been buying but holy heck I just can't afford it anymore. Please advise of some alternatives that won't cost an arm and a leg to ship? Thanks in advance!!! |
OH! Also.. I am a great fan of the Metragenix bars. I have about half a case of 5:1 Chocolate Crunch bars left from my gym rat days. I have been trying to eat them off here and there to get rid of them and would love to use it as an alt for the IP bars. They just taste so good. Better than real chocolate bars IMO.
Calories: 225 Total Fat: 12g -Saturated Fat: 10g -Trans Fat: 0g Total Carbs: 15g Protein: 15g I've been eating them to replace a whole meal when I get stuck at work but now looking at the Fat grams they are appearing a bit evil. |
