Hi mompattie!! So glad to see you on here. There are a few of us now - we're a small, but very determined group :). I started in August with a clinic a couple of hours out of Saskatoon, but have since found a wonderful coach here in the city. I used to buy 3 weeks of IP food at a time, but love the convenience now of seeing my coach every week. Much more motivational for me!!

Your stats look great - at least 25 pounds so far!!! When did you start?

Hey Pinky!! Thanks! I started IP the week after Thanksgiving....I've been finding it pretty good so far, only a few "stumbles" along the way. I'm doing week 1 again this week (no restricted items), as I had a "cheat" this past week, so I'm going to start back at week 1 following it a T. I had wanted to lose 50 lbs by Christmas....still in sight, I'm down 37 lbs, so it's completely do-able if I watch my fingers with all the Christmas Baking around!

My coach is right in town...they opened up a clinic here the week before Thanksgiving, so that's why I joined. I am considering trying some Lindora alternative pkgs after Christmas, as I'm finding IP very expensive. My bff in town here is doing IP as well, so we have each other for a swift kick in the butt, and motivation and support at the same time! I put in a Lindora order last week, not here yet, so I'm excited to get it! I ordered 2 months of food, combined with the Costco shakes and the Pure Protein bars I ordered from www.well. ca, I'm good for a few months of food!

Great to meet you! Congrats on your success too!!!

Duty?

Re-posting from the Alternatives Thread....

Customs is confusing ---- can any of you help? When is a shipment dutiable? My mom ordered from Nashua Nutrition a month or two ago and did not have to pay duty on it, but she just received a second order and there was $21.96 in duties payable when the order was picked up at the post office. The two orders were similar in dollar value, so I don't think price was the trigger in this case.

Thanks in advance!

Hoping someone still reads this thread.... I cannot find Tamari Sauce ANYWHERE!!!!! Where have you guys found it?? I checked Walmart, Superstore, Safeway and my local grocery store (but in a small town OF COURSE they dont have it....lol)

Sorry Lesley, I couldn't find it either. Are you looking to use in stir-fry? I found the WF Balsamic dressing worked great and I've recently started using soy sauce. The one I use is 0 fat, 1 carb, <1g sugar per tbsp. There is a lot of sodium (1160) but I'm not very sensitive to it and it doesn't affect my weight loss. Sorry I couldn't be more help...I also live in a small town. :)

Shipments are dutiable when they're caught! If it came through USPS & Canada Post, sometimes packages are not assessed duty. If packages are sent via a courier (FedEx UPS DHL), you will always have duty assessed.

Secondly, it's not really duty that you pay, it's the taxes in your province -- HST, GST + prov. sales tax, or GST only -- and probably a brokerage fee. Yeah I know we get to pay extra for the privilege of having someone assess taxes!

I have always bought Tamari in a health food store. Now that some of the bigger chains (Loblaw, Metro & Sobeys in Ontario) have "health food" or "natural" food sections, I often find it there. Loblaw has a separate section; Metro has marked shelves throughout the store. I'd ask the service desk/store manager where the gluten-free foods are. :goodluck:

It can depend on where the items are assessed-whether they passed through Toronto or Vancouver on their travels. I'm currently fighting to get 120 dollars in duty returned on dresses I bought that equalled $112. How does THAT make sense? haha. silliness.

Pinky

I hear ya on the charges. My first shipment from NLD was $32 and the second one was $54, and there was only $20 difference in the order. IT was clearly stated "Brokerage fees" All of my orders have come via courier.
At the end, its still much cheaper than the $27 a box

I look and ask everytime I go to Costco and I started using PP drinks long before I found out about IP. Hopefully they get them in soon. I like vanilla better than chocolate and look forward to the versatility of vanilla.

Have not found vanilla either... Though Costco had a special on them this weekend (-6$ for 18 packs), bought 2 of chocolate!
