Wondering if anyone else feels this way...
I am having a hard time eating all the calories that I can have. I burn close to 4000 a day sometimes over, so I should be eating close to 3000 sometimes over a day. I usually only eat around 2000 sometimes 2200 sometimes a bit less. I know at some point my body is probably going to go into "starvation" mode and I will go on a plateau. At that point should I up my calorie intake? It just doesn't seem "right" in my own mind to be on a "diet" (actually a lifestyle change) and eat so many calories. Is anyone else having a hard time eating all their calories they are allowed? Those of you that got stuck on a plateau and upped your calorie intake to the 1000 deficit how long did it take to see a loss? And have you stuck with the upped calorie intake or once you started losing again did you drop back down on your calories? |
one more thing... what is your usual deficit for the day?
|
Sasil - I think the usual "goal" for the deficit has been 1000calories.
I can't wait to get my GWF. I'm super excited to start recording ACTUAL calories spent. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. Does anyone know if the new Verizon Droid might have those apps on it so I can keep up that way? I haven't bought it yet, but am giving it a LOT of thought. |
Sasil - I kept a larger deficit for awhile without any ill effects. Because of your current weight you likely can lose more per week safely. I think they say 1lb for every 100 is OK... so a deficit of 1500 or so likely won't be an issue. I wouldn't increase what your eating too much unless your calories are too low. at 300lbs I was eating about 1800-2000 cals.
My personal deficit changes because I work out a lot. I vaguely aim for 1000 but sometimes it's more or less. |

BTW, Based on your stats you are a real inspiration to me. |

Just as a FYI, I was NOT going to get the display initially but bought it in the package deal at a reduced rate and I could not imagine NOT having it. I normally look at it around noon to see how I am tracking for the day and make adjustments to my activity level to end the day at a certain calorie burn. |
Idealmuse thanks for your input and sharing your personal experience. I will go with the flow for now, but I think soon I will have to get closer to that 1000 or at least 1500...there have been days that I am at a 2000 deficit..not sure that is OK....
I feel OK for the most part, but I think a lot of my issue is I stay up late and burn quite a few calories late and well I just don't feel right eating late at night even if I am hungry...I feel like the food will just sit on me while I sleep...so I think not eating even though I have burned those calories late at night is what is giving me such a large deficit on some days. SamanthaJubilee.. you sound like me when I ordered my GWF. I was so hoping it would come by Friday...I felt like a kid at Christmas too....when it didn't come I couldn't wait till Monday..knowing it just had to show up Monday..LOL. It did but I was so super busy that day I couldn't get it going till late which I actually ended up waiting till Tuesday to try it out. Today I had to charge my battery this morning and so my calories are all messed up I think...I did a lot of work around the house and none of it got recorded since it was plugged in, at almost 2:00 I am only up to 343 steps..LOL...I would normally be well over 2000 buy now. I thought I would have enough battery to get me through the day...I should have charged it last night. Oh well... |

I also think of something works for you then great, but if not then you have to try something different. If your current routine has you on a plateau, then your body is telling you something. First you should look at all the obvious (like are you being honest about your calorie Intake), but if everything checks out then (as scary as it is, trust me I know), you have to try something different. Trust me, my heart is racing just thinking of stepping on the scale tomorrow morning and seeing it higher than it was last Wednesday. But something has to give, and if GWF is close to accurate then I think my problem is I was eating too few calories. Although I wasn't hungry, running 20-25 mpw and cross training 2 days a week may mean that my body just needs more fuel. I don't know but we will see. Pray for me! lol

Deana,
Thanks so much for replying! I will stay tuned... Good-Luck with the rest of your progress! Congrats on how far you have come already! I am so inspired by those of you doing this. I have been on "diets" on and off for years...lose a little gain a lot... This is it though I am losing and plan on keeping it off! Reading posts here at 3FC and seeing it is possible to do this is so inspiring!! I'm so glad I found you all! I'm in on the summer challenge! :-) Crazy as it sounds coming from me...I am so excited about this! |

Hi Sasil! I have seen you on the other 300+ thread too. I am hoping that next week I will see a real difference after using the GWF to monitor my intake. I was so shocked to see I wasn't eating enough. That just doesn't compute in my head. I have upped my intake from around 1500 to 1800 to see if that makes a difference. I was afraid to go all the way to the suggested 2100 it wanted me to consume. If that works I wil stay at 1800 until I see a plateau again.

Why does it have to be so scary to give our body more fuel? I can totally relate to that statement though!
I haven't hit a plateau yet...that I know of...I haven't weighted for a couple weeks though. I just figured having such a large deficit some days I am probably heading towards a plateau... Just preparing myself so I don't get discouraged when it happens. I'm trying to stay away from the scale...I am obsessed with the scale..weighing up to 20 times a day or more. I am getting away from that and leaning towards just weighing once a week (was working on a monthly weigh-in but weekly will be OK as long as I leave it at weekly and not after every thing I eat and every bathroom trip and after every exercise) and trusting the GWF numbers. Deana I can "feel" your anxiety about the scale especially with TOM. But something has to give...trust the GWF numbers...that is what I am trying to do...it has been an awesome tool thus far, even though I have a pretty high daily deficit! You'll have to remind me of this post when I get stuck...or around my TOM! I'm sure I'll need to shake things up a bit and up my fuel..which I know I will have so much anxiety over...ugh... |
