If someone is bothered by leggings as pants, clearly they don't spend any time on a college campus. Opaque leggings most certainly are pants. Sheer leggings, tights, or pantyhose are not though. And yes, I have seen all of those.

If you looked at my booty and thought I was $lutty because my yoga pants were tight, well you still looked at my booty, and you saw how lovely it was too. :D

Sure just RUB IT IN that it's warm enough to wear tank tops where you are. What a SKANK!

We just got leaf buds this week and a cold front is currently blowing in, taking away the mid-60s temperatures we had for like two days and bringing the lows down to freezing again :P

I feel this way too though. Can't wait to wear tank tops to show off the gunz!

I have to disagree!

It doesn't matter where they are being worn, they still are not pants! A legging is a legging is a legging. There is not enough material there to be considered pants! Like the ecard! If they were pants, they would be called pants!! haha! Opaque just means that when you bend over, 98% of the time I can still see your panties (or lack there of!) ;)

Ahahah! Excellent answer! RIGHT ON!

If you can see thru them, then those aren't the opaque leggings I speak of. Thick leggings doexist.

The "if they were pants, they'd be called pants" argument doesn't work for me. Leggings are a specific type of pants, the same way jeans and trousers are words for specific kinds of pants. Or sweaters and blouses are specific kinds of shirts or loafers and sandals are specific kindsof shoes.

Yoga pants.... Personally, I think they should be worn to the gym and around the house ONLY. If you are wearing yoga pants and don't look like you are headed to/from the gym, yes I will be judging you. Sorry, but that's just how I feel.

ETA - I have noticed that I now constantly compare shopping carts. I feel great when mine has more good/healthier stuff than theirs :)

I'm curious, by pants do you mean jeans? Are sweats acceptable? Seriously, because I normally wear jeans, but I also wear sweats out...however I know that after I have the baby (because I've been there done that) my tummy is in NO MOOD for jeans or anything restrictive. And I've never had a Csection, but I imagine those ladies are even less likely to want to zip up jeans.

Also, there are probably 100 reasons I can think of that people don't want anything restrictive around their waste. Here's one, a lot of my colostomy patients where sweats out.

I know you were just being honest and no you don't sound terrible!! lol But I just don't understand feeling better about your choices when you see someone not doing as well. In that case, I end up feeling bad for them and wondering if they have the resources/ knowledge to make healthier choices. I find that I tend to compare myself to the person with the even healthier cart!! Then I strive to improve my own choices. I'm just saying we can all find someone whose food choices (or clothing choices, or education, or house etc) are not as good as ours and then compare us to them to feel better about ourselves, but I kind of think of that as similar to bullying. I'm not saying you bully people!! I just kind of feel like those two trains of thought are on the same track. I'm sure a lot of people would disagree with me, I bet that what you said is actually not an uncommon way of thinking.

more judgement alert: it's rare to see a good fashion choice on a college campus. :D

I am soo wrapped up with this thread...

I wrote here at 3FC...maybe a year ago, that part of my weight gain was to feel accepted, to fit in.

I am older now, and fat (45), but even up to my late 30's I felt uncomfortable and downright discriminated being thin. -- I was a very thin woman, with big boobs, and an accent....and I am Scandinavian :yikes: So automatic sex kitten and a slut! Many of you will say Boohoo...so sorry for you... But I was devastated. Some women accused me "going after their husbands" when in reality, I am a super talkative person who does not discriminate.

Being thin is hard!!! Eventhough I "want" to get skinny, I am scared sh1tless if I succeed.

Very well said! :)

I believe you. I've seen the immediate objectification of women of your body type and frankly I find it scarier than the hostility fat people face. If your boobs are round and your stomach isn't you're not automatically Jessica Rabbitt.

Ha! I'm a soil science major on the ag campus. Until sorority village was built across the road, all I saw was work boots, carhartts, and camo.

Radiojane 04-18-2013 05:15 PM

My dorm was connected to one of the classroom buildings. Kids used to literally roll out of bed and go to class hair eskew, morning breath etc. The ones that were dressed usually looked like they were enjoying the fact mom wasn't around to tell them to look presentable. The exception being Friday night at the bar when everyone was half naked.

Shorts have less material, and swim suits and people wear those. I lived a block from the ocean for years in my 20s and nearly everyone that came off the beach went right to the grocery store in next to nothing. Leggings would have been a big step in covering up! :D

I don't mean jeans specifically. But I think sweats are not meant for wearing in public. (too from the gym etc is understandable :)) There are so many "real" pants out there that are not as restrictive as jeans, that would still be comfortable and appropriate (IMO) to be worn in public. And yes, I understand that occasionally, some people have no other option than to wear sweats, and that sucks to have no other option. I just think much of the time people are just to lazy to put on pants and it annoys me.

I dunno, I just never have understood not trying to look presentable in public. I am not saying I am always dressed to the nine's, far from it. I guess I am willing to take the 1 minute it takes to change out of my "lounge pants" into a pair of jeans/or other form of non house-type pant when I leave the house.

I think I could have phrased that cart thing a little better maybe :)

When I look at someones cart that doesn't have all the good stuff mine does, I don't feel as though I am better than them, just that I feel good that I have been able to make my cart not look like that anymore. Does that makes more sense? I too compare to healthy carts and use that as a kick in the proverbial pants to do better lol.

I don't feel like a bully for feeling good about my choices, I feel thankful that I have the education and resources to enable me to have the healthier cart or whatever. I not going to pity people who don't take it upon themselves to educate themselves or learn to make better choices. Everyone has the capacity to make changes for the better, whether it be how you dress, what you eat, or the things you know.

Huh, I have never seen leggings thick enough to cover it all up then. Regardless... Thick or thin, leggings are meant to be worn under other clothes. Yoga pants are meant for the gym, PJ's are meant to be worn to bed. And that is how I feel about that :D

In the end, people are always going to do whatever they want and someone will always judge them for it.

LOL no argument there... :) I never understood the appeal of bums hanging out all over the place. I guess mine has never been nice enough to be exposed without causing riots haha!
