It really does help with the other workouts, too. I have chronic back problems from blowing out a disc in my back a couple years ago and yoga has improved me 90%, truly. I am pain free most days because of yoga. All that said, modify if you need to! The first 45 minutes of the yoga program is ashtanga yoga where you constantly do plank to upward dog to plank to downward dog to a moving asana like the warrior poses. If you need to, skip some of the plank/upward dog/downward dog parts and just do the warrior poses and such. It will keep you from getting too tired. The last 45 minutes are balance poses and core work and it's MUCH easier. So don't feel like the entire thing will be hard.

I didn't do any more than 13 minutes of yoga. I substituted it with cardio x. I'm going to attempt it again this week. It really is difficult.

Yoga isn't a cardio routine. If I were going to sub out Yoga I'd sub it for Stretch X instead.

Keep trying- I think most people hate Yoga X at first, but it really does do amazing things for you when you stick with it. And the first time you go through the routine in kind of a Zen way, it really does (like Tony says) feel like a ride you've had before. I've had sessions where I hated it and fought my way through it the entire time, and some where it was just okay, and two now where I was in a Zen frame of mind and it was awesome.

I am thinking about investing in some add'l Yoga tapes, such as Jillian Michael's, because sometimes Tony's constant chatter during Yoga really isn't what I'm in the mood for. I'd like to find something that has the same type of power yoga workout but less talk.

I guess I shouldn't say substitute. I only did the cardio x just so I could have some workout that day. I tried doing stretch x on my 7th day and only did half of it. I guess I need something more fast paced than yoga and the stretch x.

I took a yoga class 2 months ago and absolutely hated it. I stuck it out for 6 weeks at 3 days/week though. It's not something I see as a "like" in my future. I will try it again on week 2 though. I don't like quitting

Wow. I'd say you gave Yoga a fair shake. Not every workout is for everybody, I guess!

I would say since you really don't like Yoga, it'd be better for you to sub it out for anything you do like rather than not workout that day. And it sounds like that's what you did. :)

For now I stick to P90X Classic as it's designed, but at some point after I finish my first round I plan to just do whatever workout I feel like that day. I think so long as you shake it up and cross-train that you'll get good results.

I am also doing the classic version except yoga. I'm currently on week 3. What phase are you in eagleriverdee?

I'm on week 10, in phase 3. I'm a definite believer in P90X. It's really hard, but I'm seeing results. I didn't see any in phase 1 (because I wasn't doing a good job watching my diet) but I lost 10 lbs in phase 2. I'm looking forward to seeing how I do in phase 3. :) Keep it up!

I'm in week 2 of P90x. For yoga, I had found previously it really helps to split it into 2 workouts. I did yoga the other day but 70 minutes in and I was spent. I know it'll get easier.

I'm doing p90x plus additional cardio.

I'm still in phase 1. So far I've only lost 2.4 lb but I lost lots of inches so that's a good thing. I am also a definite believer in P90X as well. My arms are becoming more defined and I feel a lot better. I just need to get heavier weights to work out with. You're almost done with the first cycle. Keep going.*

Everything gets easier the more you do it. Have you noticed any changes or seeing any results yet?

Hi everyone!, Wohooo for a P90X topic!. I love it! I did a round in 2010 my partner saw the difference it was making and did it with me at the beginning of this year but life got in the way on the round after that with myself having to have surgery so am only now wanting to get back into it but I can't wait!!.

What i love is now my man tells all his mates here in NZ to do it too because it's such an awesome programme hmmmmmm recall saying this to him at one point and getting a grunt in response LOL!!

I aim by the end of this round to do 1 unassisted pull up! and If I somehow find my courage ill put up my photos i took in all the different phases on the different rounds. Really hate the first pic though that oh so dreaded before photo eww!.

Anyhow just wanted to say HI!! and I'll be starting on Sunday so will jump on and put up my measurements etc sob sob

Thanks, Jess :)

I'm starting week 4 today and the dreaded yoga x is today. Im going to TRY and stick with it today instead of giving up on it like the last 3 weeks.

Good luck to everyone starting it. It's really a great program. Lots of people say it's too intense but once you do it it's not that bad at all. Keep us update on your progresses.

EagleRiverDee 10-19-2011 01:23 PM

@FitMum- Welcome! I, too, want to be able to do just 1 pullup! I'm finally up to 4 pushups off my knees (I couldn't do any at first).

@Ryler- A couple of things that help me with Yoga X- one, I've found that I must not eat first because it makes me feel "heavy" and sluggish which really makes the first 45 minutes of moving asanas hard. The other thing I found is that if I put my own music on and play P90X without the music, I do better because I like listening to my own music better and I find I can get more into the Yoga that way. I also mentally break the Yoga up- the first section of moving Asanas is 45 minutes. I always mentally commit to doing that, because it's the hardest and if I can get through that I can probably talk myself into doing the 20 minutes of balance poses and then the Yoga belly and then the stretching and relaxation because those are way easier. I also bought Jillian Michael's Yoga disc which I plan to try the next time I simply can't bring myself to deal with Yoga X, that way at least I'm doing the Yoga but I get a little variety.
