Hey ladies! Well it looks like I hit my original goal of 140, woop woop! 139.6 this morning, ahh, so that's nice. Going to keep going but it's such a nice feeling that I've done it. I'm surprised too as I was at home for a few days and my family like to eat but I managed moderation.. **** yeah! I feel like I still have a lot of fat on me though, I know I need to start weight training. I guess that will help a lot. I'm in a good place mentally with food right now. Balancing social events and indulging just a little bit, yay.

I think I picked up a cold, I woke up this morning feeling like I'd been punched in the throat and I'm just dizzy and achy. Perfect excuse for a lazy Sunday .

Joss Holy ****, those shoes are hot! You must be so excited to see your hubby! I can only imagine how crappy it must be to be apart for a lot of the time. It'll be awesome when you guys can live together!

ion Way to go for getting back on the wagon!

Dottie Congratulations on the weigh in to you too! I understand that you'd feel like that about your sister. How over weight is she if you don't mind me asking? I'm sure even with the surgery she'll have to face a lot of her issues with food, but if she's seeing it as a quick fix I'm sure that will catch up to her.

Jessica Michelle Rodriguez has a kick *** figure! Nice work on the runs too, you're off to a really great start.

krampus Have you ever been 15lbs lighter than you are now? I get that it's hard to know what's maintainable too. You still have some time though to see what your body's up to. I'm not sure how much difference there is between 6 and 8.

Turbo All of the food you just described sounds ****ing delicious haha, I hope the ******* is cooked too. Glad to see you're back under 140 again too. Hope camping was amazing!

ChickieChicks Not gaining during all of that madness is a success! I hope somebody buys a puppy, they're super duper cute. All of your jam looks great too! I love home made stuff like that. We made lots of chutney last year and it is just so damn good. Tomato, apple and sultana. It's all gone now unfortunately.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend

Ion - Way to hang in there! It's all about continuing to pick yourself up and keep going. I know for me, the key to beating the binge cycle (though I know its something I'll always deal with) was just getting happier in the rest of my life. I started binging when I was going through a really tough time, and I realized that I just sort of fell out of it when the rest of my life fell into place.
Another thing that helps me is eating clean and avoiding alcohol. Sure, I overindulge now and again but I don't have those uncontrollable urges to stuff myself anymore and the more natural I eat, the less I even have small cravings for sweets and things. It's kind of amazing actually! I feel full and satisfied, my food is fresher and tastier, I still get sweets, and I'm excited about my meals. Maybe that would help you as well?

Leila - Thats fantastic about your weigh-in! It's really impressive when you can balance it all, and hit that new low in spite of having to change your circumstances last week.
I'm sorry you don't feel well. I never need an excuse for a lazy Sunday so I hope you enjoyed yours!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I spent my Sunday as I typically do; cardio session in the morning, cleaning house, preparing meals and workouts for the coming week, and doing lots of cooking!

Ready for some more JossFit healthy food porn? These are pictures of a few of my meals today (LOL I ate 7 meals today so yes, this IS just a few.)

This was pretty epic - Carrot cake oatmeal. Yes. You're welcome.

I prepared my oatmeal with some grated carrots, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg and a bit of vanilla extract and it tasted like the real deal! It was soo good! After I took this picture I added my egg whites (need my protein of course) but it's hard enough to make oatmeal not look gross without seeing big chunks of eggwhites in it.

This one is just a chicken salad with chickpeas, cucumber, carrots and radishes... but the key here is another homemade salad dressing; buttermilk ranch! It turned out so good!

Next up we have my first attempt at making spaghetti squash "spaghetti". It was kind of a pain in the butt, and although I really liked the flavor I don't know if it's something I'll do regularly. I'll probably just stick to miracle noodles if I want a "pasta" because this took 50 minutes to roast, another 10 minutes to shred, and like 5 seconds to eat. hahaha

(That was topped with roasted tomatos, chicken and parmesan)

Lastly for today was nothing really "new", but I don't know why I didn't pair these up sooner! I made shrimp and asparagus and then added salsa and the rest of that cilantro avocado dressing I made last weekend. The sauce and salsa were heavenly together. I'm mad I didn't pair them up sooner! It looks like that dressing is going to be making another appearance very soon... it goes on so much.

Evidently my hubby has to go out of town for a while for work, so he may not get to come visit me in October as we planned. I really hope that doesn't end up being the case, because I leave in November and won't be home until sometime in March. I'd hate to add another month or two on top of the time we'll already be unable to visit each other.

Friday when I was at the gym doing my thing, I left my notebook on one station while I went to get a towel and lysol to wipe down another one. (I jot my workouts down as I go as a way of checking things off). Anyway, when I came back I found that someone had picked it up and wrote along the top of the day's page "You Inspire!!" I was so touched. The people who work out in that gym with me are all men, all older, and as far as military types go they are truly the best of the best. The fact that I could inspire any one of them is humbling, to say the least. It made me smile all day.

Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Joss- you DO inspire! Way before I joined this thread, I've loved reading your input. You are the real deal. I'm totally going to try the carrot cake oatmeal. Anything oatmeal is up my alley! I tried to make myself love butternut squash, but it's a pain in the butt, and it was just okay. I found that. Had to add so much to it to make it taste good, that it sort of defeated the purpose! do you consciously go low-carb? I've oticed most of your dishes are served over veggies. I love eating my dinner over spinach leaves. I can turn just about anything into a salad.

Leila- congrats! I bet you are on Cloud 9. and thank you...I do feel like it has been a major accomplishment for me to stay sane and keep my weight within my goal range throughout all of this! My husband has been working sun-up to sun-down for thirteen days straight on the house, and my patience is wearing very thin. He is amazing..a true pro. But I'm just overwhelmed with the kids, puppies, house, etc, and I frankly miss him! He starts back to work tomorrow, so progress will slow down considerably.

So the outside is done! The original plan was just to move the door down, but the addition is awesome. More space to come in and move around, before getting to the mudroom and taking off shoes, etc. but as great as it looks on the outside, the inside is a wreck. I have no idea when that will be done...at least a few weeks.

Our house when we bought it (shows the original door and window position)

As of yesterday. This is the back of the house. The front has a formal entry, but it isn't used.

That weird sidewalk will get torn up some day when the driveway gets concrete. Our house was built in 1953 and is a compilation of 4 different additions/renovations.

And for fun...this is part of what I do all day. I am a it of a stay-at-home-mom on crack. today we were Traveling Lemonade Salesmen. Our neighborhood is mostly agricultural, so the houses aren't all close together. So we got our supplies ready and took a long walk. It's become a summer tradition.

And one more. My exercise! The powerwashing kicked my butt! I am so sore! I've been doing so much yard and house work, and it counts, right? Hopefully I'll get to the gym tomorrow.

Aww, thank you so much! I am hoping that I can be successful in my fitness career (once I get there) so reading things like that gives me that extra motivation to keep on pushing for it.

Another thing I'm going to try is doing this as a baked oatmeal... ever try it? I'll add the egg whites and blend it all together, then put it into a dish and bake it for about 30-40 minutes and see how that goes. I'm betting it will be pretty awesome...

I suppose it depends on your definition of "low carb". I eat a 40P/30C/30F split, so I consider that to be "moderate carb". Most of my carbs are in my first three meals of the day which are usually around my workout and at work, so I don't put up a lot of pictures of those. They are boring a lot of the time, but I also can't because I'm at work. Today for example I had a bag of natural apple cinnamon rice cakes and an apple with my post-workout shake which was quite a few carbs in one meal.

Your new entryway looks awesome! Your kiddos are super cute too. How was the lemonade business today?
Powerwashing is NO JOKE... I bet that burned some calories! Heck I was already feeling lazy today and now I really do... haha.

Hey feathers!! I'm back from camping and I'M SCARED to death facing the scale tomorrow. We biked and everything while camping, but last night I fell head over feet in Doritos. HELLO, SALT WATER RETENNNTIOOOON.

The boyfriend is all moody and cranky cause we had to live our friends place where we went after the camping thing early, needing to get back to get the cat some food... and we had to skipped a boat ride for that. So right now he's pissed at the universe for being stuck in our hot appartment while he could have been on the lake riding a boat.

I did a little grocery shopping so we have something to eat for breakfast and I ALMOST decided not to pick up some bread for him there. I'm thinking i should have let him STARVED though. LOL

I'll try to catck up with all of you tomorrow!!

125.4 this morning after hitting the gym before work. Feels good to be going in the right direction. I haven't been hideously overeating like I often have with visitors here so I consider that a small victory. It helps that my friend is a very intuitive eater and doesn't eat beyond fullness and seems to have no sort of sugar/carbohydrate addiction. I've noticed that in the majority of Japanese women - they get full quickly and stop with no societal pressure to clean their plate. I find that really admirable and worth trying to emulate myself.

The weekend was fun - we went to the fair and ate fried Oreos and whatnot, saw lots of cute animals, spent quality time with my parents and friends, and reminisced about the good old days when we lived in the same place. I'm seeing her off at the airport this afternoon and not looking forward to that - the last time I saw her prior to this visit, I was leaving Japan for good and she was in tears.

TurboMammoth Don't fear the scale! Doritos will be gone soon! Hope your BF is in a better mood soon, no one likes a cranky man.

ChickieChicks Your house looks great! You could easily be a model in a commercial touting the physical health benefits of powerwashing and housework. :P How were your lemonade sales?

JossFit I'm crossing my fingers your husband will be able to visit in October as planned - long distance marriage is really tough with two officers involved. As usual your meals (7 meals is great!) look spectacular and mouth-wateringly tasty. The spaghetti squash seems like kind of a fail in terms of time required for prep but it's best to find these things out for yourself, right? I hear what you're saying about baby steps. I really would need to buckle down and get up at 6 instead of 7 to hit the gym and say "no thanks" a lot more and who knows if I'll ever be ready for that? Still, seeing so many super lean and skinny people walking around, it's hardly impossible. We'll see.

LeilaJey CONGRATULATIONS AND WOOHOO re: hitting first goal! It seems like you haven't had much trouble getting there - speaking from personal experience adding weight training when there was none before has made a big difference and has boosted my metabolism a lot. Recommend! I have never been 110 except when I was a tubby 4th grader. This is my lightest adult weight ever.

ion Getting up early to exercise sucks at first but it gets easier and habitual with time. How did the weekend go for you?

DottieMae Oy, the situation with your sister is really sensitive. I'd keep saying nothing about it if I were you. Cheating or not, being NOT obese is healthier than being obese even if you have an artificially stapled stomach and are forced into it. But I know what you mean, sometimes I think "gosh couldn't you just learn to be healthy" about people considering WLS - and then realize they've probably spent their whole lives trying and being less than successful. CONGRATS on low weigh-in! That must feel great!

JessicaB Some of my best workouts and runs have been after eating too much candy or junk or pie. Think of all the stuffing as carb loading, hehe. I know what you mean about the extra layer - I have a 2-pack on a good day with a blob under it.

this is really good advice. it's true i'm under a lot of stress lately, in pretty much every area of my life, but i'm the kind of person that pushes it down, and so it tends to manifest in other ways, bingeing being a problematic one of them now that i'm super focused on losing weight.

thanks LeilaJay! i gotta say getting even the smallest amount of positive feedback, even if it's just a "way to go", helps a lot more than doing this by myself.

krampus, i'm loving being up early, it lets me do so much more with my day now. i never knew!! umm, the weekend was ok for one day but not for yesterday lol, but i gave myself yesterday as a freebie for the week. the semester starts in a couple of days so i'm feeling very "fresh start" and can-do. hope things are well with you, good luck with your intuitive eating and let us know how it goes!

for all - i know i'm new to this, but does everyone get such a lot of spam comments on their 3FC fitness blogs, if you have one? maybe it's from direct linking on here. hmm... well i've officially been here for 20 days and i'm happy to now have a ticker in my signature

the fasting has been going okay, i'm not sure if any of the desired effects have been attained as my weight has been fluctuating in the normal range so far and i don't plan to get any bloodwork done. i'll have to see what happens in the long run.

i remembered an old trick i used at age 15 or so, and put a modified seinfeld calendar up in my room--i record my weight on it every morning, and at the end of the day i put a big red X or a green check depending on whether or not i've followed my calorie & exercise plan or otherwise think i've done well--as well as other little notes, like when i started the IF. it really helps put things in perspective when i start to get frustrated. i can clearly see my weight go up following a binge, and how it slowly ticks down when i've been doing well. can't believe it took me so long to remember this!

Joss I think your idea of a lazy Sunday is my idea of an active day haha you certainly do inspire! I love it when people do such kind and lovely things. And I hope you do get to see your hubby in October, that's a really long stretch.

ChickieChicks aww that lemonade cart is just too cute! Yes, power washing totally counts! I love getting exercise from just physical work. Like tricking myself into exercising. The house looks amazing, I love the new door/porch area.

Turbo Don't sweat it! MMMM doritoes! My bf had doritoes and chilli while I was away and I was so jealous. He made himself sick though haha hope you're doing good. Your boyfriend is just on his man period I'm sure.

Krampus That's the thing about modern life, you can make these amazing connections with people on the other side of the world but it sucks when you can't see them a lot. Glad you had fun and didn't feel out of control though, fried oreos sound pretty damn tasty. I was thinking that you were at your lowest weight ever.. would 110 not be teeny tiny teeny? You look tiny already but I understand the feelings. Yeah I got here without too much trouble. I'm pretty sure I was kind of in a plateau for 2 months because I'm eating the same amount now and losing suddenly and I was barely losing before.

ion The support here is amazing, I really don't think I'd have lost much weight if I hadn't found this place! So yeah, way to go

And here I am eating chocolate, but TOM's on the way (ouchies ) so yeaaahh. I decided to eat a bit more today because last night in bed I was aboslutely obsessed with food. I wasn't hungry as such but I didn't have a lot yesterday. It was just pure cravings. Like I was laying there and I remembered that crunchy nut cornflakes existed and I was obsessed. Then when I got up today I had no interest in food until later on. Typical eh.

Thanks for all of your lovely comments! It's a funny feeling being at goal, and I'm still confused about my body. As I said I'm going to try weight training. I don't know what's best, should I pick up some free weights? How heavy should I start with? I'm not completely weak or anything.

Thanks in advance if anybody can help as I don't have a clue other than "lift the heavy thing, get hot". :\

Back to my tea and chocolate.. nom nom!

Turbo - It seems like you did pretty well overall during the trip so don't beat yourself up over Doritos! How did your bread and carrot soup turn out anyway?
I don't entirely blame your BF for being a bit cranky about having to come back early. My hubby and I are having a hard time right now figuring out what to do with our cat (he currently lives with my hubby) since we will BOTH be gone at the same time for work. It looks like we might have to finally give him up. I found a really nice animal rescue that does adoptions and fosters pets until they get a permanent home, so that's a good thing at the very least. He deserves someone who can devote more time to him. I'm sad to give him up after having him for 8 years.
Anyway, I DO blame your BF if he took it out on you though! Men are such punks sometimes.

Krampus - Oh I certainly hope he can still come out too! If nothing else, I do get to see him this weekend and once more in September while I'm out in Denver for work, so that's something. Still, not seeing him from Mid-September until March (when I would get back from my trip overseas) wouldn't be fun at all. It is hard, but if anyone can do it, we can.
I'm sorry your friend has to go back to Japan already, but it sounds like you had a good time and I'm sure you guys can visit again soon! One thing I love is that we have so much technology these days it's not too hard to stay in touch if you want to. Can you imagine only being able to talk via letters that take months to receive?!
My goal for this weekend is to be like your friend; eat until I am satisfied and enjoy my food. I always overdo it when I see my hunny and though it hasn't really impacted my fitness, I hate feeling bloated and gross. We are going to hike the incline and hit the gym, and go to the fair so we'll be really active. I think that, combined with my resolution to eat natural foods even if I'm not watching my calories should keep me from going too nuts. After all, if I have a craving for ice cream finding natural ice cream is not as easy as running to the gas station for a Drumstick!
(But you bet your butt I'm getting some goodies when I drag him to Whole Foods... I love that place!)

Ion - I started binging when I had the same thing going on; a TON of financial and personal stress due to my divorce and the need to put on a happy face and handle everything myself. It took me YEARS to figure out why I started it, and I still have hard days and think I always will. I just hope that whatever strategies you come up with to manage it work for you!
A calendar might be a good idea, but I found the opposite was true for me. It made me focus on those big red X's and categorizing whole days as "good" or "bad" wasn't good for me. I think getting rid of that mentality was one of the things that has helped me to do things in moderation. Now I can have an indulgent meal and get right back to my healthy ways without calling the whole day/week/month "Bad" because I chose to have some chocolate.

(which I am eating right now)

Anyway, just more random food for thought...

Leila - Yeah, it was really nice to see that in my journal. It's the little things, you know?
Hey I'm eating chocolate too! Yay for chocolate! Nothing wrong with that at all. *high five* haha

As far as weight training, I recommend looking up a basic starter program online and getting the feel for the proper form. Youtube is actually a good place to look at videos of proper form to get a good idea.

To start, I would aim for a good full-body routine 3-4 days per week. Aim to hit all of your major muscle groups doing compound exercises like deadlifts, squats, bench presses, military presses and barbell rows. Then, fill in your workouts with isolation exercises like bicep curls, tricep extensions, lunges, calve raises, lateral raises, etc. The combinations are endless!

As far as *heavy* training goes, that comes with time. Concentrate on form first and go from there. You should aim (at first) to complete 3 or 4 sets of each exercise, and do 8-10 repetitions per set. Heavy is relative, but you should be fatigued after no more than 10-12 reps. If you can do more than that without sacrificing form, you know you need to add more weight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Speaking of heavy weight training, today was my 5x5x5 day and I killed it. Whoot! Nothing like a good workout to get your day going.
After that I went into work and saw that my unit had purchased me about $3000 worth of Mountain Hardware, REI, Columbia and Merrell clothing and shoes. It's a one time "gift" since we wear civilain clothing so much, they don't expect us to pay for it. It's really nice stuff! I'm going to finish my tea and chocolate and go try it all on!

Not a bad day!

No new meals today, but they were all delicious as per ususal. I really am so in love with eating naturally. LOL you all are probably sick of hearing about it but over the past 3 weeks I have just felt so much better about what I'm putting in my body. It's great. I also think it will REALLY help me out this weekend too. We'll see... haha

I ate like a baby pig yesterday...TOM is gonna come this weekend. I like this "being regular" thing, only took me until age 25 to fall into a natural pattern of menstruation. Weight was down a full pound this morning to 124.4 after a cardio morning - don't understand how, since I ate 2200+ yesterday and a good chunk of that was leftover fettucine Alfredo and chocolate and I went to bed feeling awful and bloated and had nightmares where I was slowly puking up blobby chunky vomit...ewwwwwwwwwww.

LeilaJey Those look like good starts, but the entire point of home weights is to be able to increase the weights right? I'd personally go with the kettlebell (in a few different weights maybe). Or all of it. 110 would be teeny tiny but you gotta remember my bones are also teeny tiny and I have no boobs, so 125 on me looks the same as 135 on a same-height person with bigger bones. We'll see! 120 might be "fine" too - or 124.4 :P

JossFit Swag!!! Hope all the new goodies fit you well. I think being enamored with your regular food is a precious thing that very few people achieve (healthily) and I never get sick of seeing your photos. They're inspiring and a good reminder to use more color in my meals. Good to hear you had an excellent workout yesterday - I need to start having more of those, but I can never get up early...

ion Whatever works for you - I log my weigh-ins in the daily weigh-in thread and for what it's worth that keeps me going. I would rather not log a 4 lb overnight increase, so I keep that in mind.

Hi feathers! I just wanted to come in and say hi! I'm supposed to give my draft of master thesis to my boss tomorrow and I'm freacking out, it's not as good as I want it to be and, the most important, it's not DONEEE. I've been working on it like a mad woman since yesterday and I'm probably gonna be working on it through the night. I drank so much coffee I feel like I'm on crack or something GOSH

I was 140.8 yesterday, and 140.8 today, thanx Doritos. I spend my day going to the potty though, it might move tomorrow. Or not. I feel I'm eating all the time, thank you for that, stress! :P Haven't worked out since a few days neither. Oooops.

I'll come back for personals later, when I won't be sleep deprived/high on coffee!!

A bunch of our ladies seem to have fallen off, huh? *crickets* Sad.

Turbo - Eeek, you're so busy! I know it's like, IMPOSSIBLE, but try not to stress out. I'm sure you'll do great, and everything will be right with the world again. I'm sure all that stress is contributing to the water retention. After all, that cortisol is a B***h and it will make you hang onto that water until you are able to relax a bit. Just focus on getting your work done, eat as well as you can, and the rest will fall into place in a day or two.

Krampus - Well, I was going to say "Baby piggies aren't too bad... at least you didn't eat like a HOG" but if you were having vomiting nightmares you may have! LOL I'm a bit surprised you're down a whole pound too. Stranger things have happened, but I would have thought that some of that food would still be in your system and sitting on the scale with you. Hey, we'll take it though, right?! haha

Leila - I agree with Krampus totally and completely... if you are looking to invest in something for home use, get a couple of different sizes of Kettlebells.

Aaah, dinner tonight was awesome! I threw a bunch of zuchinni, water chestnuts and onion in a really hot pan and let them get a good sear on them, then I added miracle noodles and shrimp. After that all got happy together I added fresh ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sriracha, salt and pepper, then added fresh spinach at the end and cooked it just until it wilted. NOM NOM!

Tomorrow is my last day of work until next Wednesday... I'm off to see my hubby and I'm sooo looking forward to it! We're going hiking, to the fair, and will probably see a movie while I'm there. I'm also really looking forward to hitting up Whole Foods since I'm such a foodie lately and cooking some really amazing food for my man.
We also have a BBQ we might stop by for a bit, but neither of us is super into the idea. Sometimes you just have to go, right?
I'm hoping all the activity will keep me from "Vacation eating"... wish me luck Feathers, I'm trying to break the habit! I did much better last month around the wedding, but the last day of the trip and ESPECIALLY the day I flew home were no bueno.

krampus At least baby pigs are cute, so it's fine I'm in the same boat. Hahah, ok, I don't have much boobage either. They're just not commiting to being breasts, y'know. I remember seeing your wrist measurement and thinking 'holy crap', tiny bones indeed. Well you look great now anyway! Thanks for the advice too!

Turbo Good luck tonight! You know you're your own worst critic too, don't drive yourself too crazy and now I want Doritoes.. dammit! :P

Joss Nom nom! I add spinach to so many meals it's crazy. Then I have it as salad too, I'm spinach crazy. Watching Popeye as a kid really had an effect. Have an amazing time with your hubby! You've got this

-----------------
Thanks for all of the advice, I'll pick up some kettlebells this week. My boyfriend's going away for the weekend so I'll stay home and workout and crochet. I'm cool, I swear.

Ate a bit too much chocolate today but then did some youtube hip hop dance workout which made me fart because I had curry for dinner. Sorry tmi haha :P I tried to go for a big walk right after dinner but I got a stitch from power walking so I just picked lots of wildflowers instead. So pretty
