Allison - sorry to hear about your palm. Those were some crazy thieves. I have one of those palms and those spikes are deadly.

I have been on Phase I of the south beach for 12 days now. Pretty much cheat free - even passed up pizza last night. Rather discouraged though as the scale has yet to budge....AT ALL!!

Sigh - I will just hang tough, some lbs are bound fall off eventually.

Happy Saturday everyone.

Oh, sznn, stick with it--I know the scale will reward you soon! I'm sorry that it hasn't responded yet. I know what it's like, though. Last summer I thought that running would be that magic pill and I'd lose again. Nope. 2 months of running 3 times a week and nothing. Then I started to gain. It's actually been over a year since I've lost anything (other than the constant 2 pound yo-yo that happens all the time).

alinnell, I cannot believe someone dug up a tree from your front yard! That is just so bizarre. And it's hard to believe someone could out digging in your front yard for as long as it takes to dig up a tree and no one saw anything.

Exclamation People steal hot tubs

As long as you look like you know what you're doing you can steal almost anything. My DH's firm was doing a reno and they had put a hot tub out on a patio for the weekend, prior to installing it. Two guys, wearing coveralls and driving a van, pulled up, loaded up the hot tub in full view of all the neighbours, and left with it.

If you have a lot of chutzpah you can get away with almost anything. Look at the guys at Enron.

Allison - what are you doing differently right now? Because it seems the lbs are flying off you this year?

I was running for months 2-3 X/wk for about 5 months....no difference on the scale. Now I am cross-country skiing 3x/wk, same thing/ no loss.
But it is even extra discouraging because I am really trying in the intake dept.

I'm going to believe that the leg muscles are getting bigger and stronger -holding more water - thus no scale movement.

sznn~I agree the exercise doesn't seem to be helping me lose. Perhaps I am losing fat and gaining muscle, though. I quit drinking wine. That was (is) my secret. I used to have 2-4 glasses per night and now I have 1 a week. That is a drastic cut in empty calories.

Hmmmm - I have cut out all alcohol for the past 2 weeks....and no change.

+ also cut out:
sugar
chocolate
oatmeal
etc.

Ahhhh, patience is indeed a virtue.

Good grief like Mudpie siad what is this world coming to? Stealing cars and trees

Allison -- by the looks of those trees, they could not have been easy to dig up I'm surprised you or your neighbors didn't hear anything... I am also down 5 lbs since the start of January ... I too have stopped drinking wine ... Do you think there is a correlation there Allison? One we don't like to admit maybe ? ..... too much wine = gain

I've had a good day... DH and I went out for a 2 hour walk...it is -15c here but there is no wind, it's bright and , I personally love these winter days ...

Question Wine - willpower = weight gain??

DH and I are going out for a walk/tea reward in a couple of minutes. There is a great deal of wind here so I'll have to make sure he dresses for it. He used to live in nothern Ontario and was quite used to the cold but no more.

I have been OP all weekend - curious to see what the scale says tomorrow. I find there are no HUGE changes on Fri. and Mon. (weigh-in days) but sometimes I'm a bit surprised .

I found that cutting out alcohol helped me lose weight just because the willpower was a lot stronger without the wine. If you are exercising more then maybe you are replacing fat with muscle, which does weigh more. I am quite muscular and have a quite high BMI but I'm definitely not FAT!

Dagmar (soon to be less stressed)

Mudpie I have a very high BMI too and no one would say that I am fat either... Although deep down inside I really really dislike to see that number....

Ended up swimming for a half hour this afternoon felt really good...
