SO I've made a decision about this particular party.. I'm going to eat my normal amount for the day and have dinner. Then - when I get there the plan is:
stay downstairs
It's a three story townhome and the whole lower level is a dance studio - it's awesome - and I'll be swing dancing the night away I had totally forgotten about that but it's true - I'll actually be getting s ome great exercise as well.
We'll be getting there late too, b/c of services. And I'd really rather not blow it tonight, since I will be planning on attending an easter dinner party on Sunday, which will be an "off plan" meal to be sure. Luckily, I get to bring something, so I'm going to make sure it's something from cooking light that I can eat! Any suggestions on what to bring or what you love to bring to things like that?
YuppieGirlie, that sounds like a great strategy. I love dancing and I'm totally jealous that you can swing dance. It sounds like a lot of fun!
I'm terrible about bringing stuff to parties; you would think that I would bring healthy food but it's like I'm trying to make all my friends fat so I'll look better when I stand next to them. I always bring really bad stuff, usually cookies. It's because I never get to bake stuff like that anymore and a party is a great opportunity for me to bake something and pawn it off on someone else so it isn't sitting around my house.
I do have a great low calorie crab cake recipe that is pretty easy to make and always a hit:
Maryland Crab Cakes
2 6-oz cans crab meat
1 cup bread crumbs (try panko crumbs to reduce calories even further)
4 tbsp finely chopped green or red bell pepper
4 tbsp finely chopped green onion
4 tbsp low calorie mayonnaise
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp shredded lemon or lime peel
2 egg whites or 1/4 cup egg beaters
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
Mix everything up in a bowl. If mixture seems dry, you can add 1 tbsp milk. Form into 36 patties. Place on cookie sheet sprayed with non-stick cooking spray and bake for 15 min at 350 degrees, or until patties are a light golden brown.
They work out to about 25 calories per crab cake.
Of course, by now you are a little short on time, so I might just do a veggie tray. I throw in a few unusual veggies, like fennel bulb and those mini sweet peppers. You could bring salsa to dip the veggies in.
bwahahahah joke is on me! I was all ticked at myself because I am WAY over plan AGAIN, and then I realized that I am doing my long run tomorrow rather than sunday so in my convoluted plan I am actually dead on target.
I wound up running late and couldn't make my dinner - had a slim fast on the way to services, so I was under about two hundred calories, but something was better than nothing.
Food @ the party was awesome - I ate more than I should have, but didn't drink any alcohol, and only had water and some diet snapple iced tea, which probably saved me about 500 calories worth in a few glasses of wine.
Even though I ate more than I should have - I danced WAY more than I thought I would - about three full hours worth with breaks - I drank a TON of water, and all in all it was like super fun aerobics. I bet I wound up at least at a wash calorie wise tomorrow.
Looking forward to my weigh in this coming week And to another OP day!
Yuppie Girl - I envy you going to that dancing party! I love to dance!
I've reached the last day of my personal Lent challenge - to give up wine and snacking in the evenings - and I'm really pleased how well it has gone. I weighed myself a couple of weeks ago out of curiosity, and had lost 6 lbs. I'm going to weigh again tomorrow morning (before I eat any chocolate eggs!) and count that as my final weight.
On Monday I'll review and decide what I'm doing next.
Eating on Sunday shouldn't be too bad - we're going to my parents for lunch, and they eat very healthily (but there will be wine!!!). I just have to watch out for the children's chocolate Easter Eggs. Also, lunch will be very late (we are driving over to my parents after our Easter service and won't get there until 2pm) so will have to arrange healthy snacks late am (before church, or during the drive) or we'll all succumb to the chocolate!!!
BlueToBlue - if you're hoping to sneak into a church service unnoticed, Easter Sunday would be a really good day for it as there will be lots of people who don't usually go (I know you knew that -just my two cents).
DD has been invited to a Murder Mystery Dinner Party and has to dress as a society hostess from the 1840's. We will be spending the morning trawling the charity shops, looking for any bridesmaids dresses that might be suitable. It could be fun, or I could end up tearing my hair out!!!! Wish me luck!
Now yesterday was a perfect example of part-time woes. They called at 6:15. I didn't even have time to wash my hair let alone go walking.
And today, I'm just doing that 'oh, I'll try that tomorrow' thing but I did lay out my uni and my lunch is packed and ready to go.
I tracked out a short route last evening 17 minutes ... I'll try again and see if I can come up with 2 kms that's 20 minutes or so.
It's very encouraging to come here and see all of you that are seeing nice new tracker numbers. I appreciate you Featherweights sooo much!
I went over cals yesterday by about 100 cals. I forgot to put my banana in fitday from brealfst ao i htought I had room for some frozen yogyrt. i realized when i was done that I forgot my banana.oh well it won't kill me.

Jen~at least your banana is healthy! Of course it won't kill you!!!
Barbara~that recipe sounds great! Recently I had some lobster cakes that were to die for, but they were spicy, too. I've been trying to come up with a recipe (crab or lobster) that I could make some substitutions to make them spicy.
Clytemnestra~congrats on the loss!!! 6 pounds is awesome!
YuppieGirl~sounds like you had a blast at the party. WTG to stay away from the wine.
Susan~yeah, I'd hate to be on call and not know when I'd be called it. I just can't go anywhere (save for my Sunday morning walk) without washing my hair first! As soon as it's long enough for a pony tail, then I'd be ok--but I'd feel like crap all day.
As for me, the scale is down another half pound to 138 today!!!! No room for slip-ups now. I did have a glass of wine with lunch yesterday, but only one! I wanted one last night, but knew that an open bottle would be an open invitation for more than one glass. I'll do my best to do the same tonight.
It's strange having read along for so long and feeling like you know people and then all of a sudden joining in and those people you've been finding inspiration through are talking to you now . It's tres cool.
Blue: What an AWESOME recipe. 25 calories?! Im going to make them to bring to the Easter dinner party we're going to tomorrow. Thanks so much for sharing that recipe! As it was, my friend Mebette was there, and she's a nutritionist - she had made a fabulous healthy salsa dip that was heavenly, with a veggie tray and baked low fat banana bread as well.
Clytnmnestra: Congrats on meeting your lent goal!! murder mystery dinner party sounds awesome for adults let alone for the kids.
Canadian Mom: hmmmm, 1200 calories does not a banana make I think maybe it's a typo and you meant 200- not such a big deal - one good round of exercising can bust through those calories!!
Today I'm going through cooking light to determine what Im' bringing to the party tomorrow - I'm going to be bringing a few things, not just one, and one of them is dessert - there are 3 contenders from thsi issue. I'm going to let my BF decide which he wants more
I just did 5 miles which about 3 months ago I would not really have believed I could do. It was a plodding slow run and I kept thinking I could be doing more. But really it was a very tough stressful week for me. Had an interview. Didn't get the job but on the other hand it is the first time anyone used the word "love" in a rejection phone cal. "We all loved you" something like that.
So I gave myself a break and plodded along.
Scale down again today crazy enough. I swear this stress thing is good for weight loss. Though I don't reccomend it.
Blue thanks for the recipe I am going to use that too. Looks yummy.
Great job clytemnestra on the 6# and happy weightloss to all you shrinking chickens.
11 Miles!!! HOLY COW!!! I can swing dance for hours but send me on a walk/run and I'm done after about a couple of blocks haha.
I did a five mile hiking loop with a friend on an unpaved trail and thought I was done for about mile three 11 miles is AWESOME!!!!!!!
I just m ade a chart that I'm going to keep on my fridge and update nightly. It will track date/weight/calories/activity/fiber & protein/alcohol a nd how I am feeling on a given day.
lol I dont think we thought you had a 1200 calorie banana. I think if you ate a dozen bananas in your morning smoothie, you wouldnt forget to record it!
