I just got the book today and have started the diet. I quit smoking and that brought on weight. I did lose on the low carb diet before, but that really isn't something you can live on forever. Hopefully, this will be my last diet.
I have not followed the plan the last 2 days, but have not fallen off the wagon. We had dinner out with friends last night. I cannot beleive I am going to say this, but I had a piece of bread to taste the dipping sauce...the bread did not taste good to me! Everyone else thought it was fine. But it was not that good. I am convinced that this diet has altered me in some way...in fact none of the food was that outstanding to me.
Today, I am back 100% on phase 1. I just made my usual smoothie and because I was trying to think of a way to get my oats in...I threw in a 1/3 of a cup...cannot even tell!!! Just put them in dry (uncooked) and so that is a nice change, I was getting tired of that bland oatmeal.
Have a great weekend. Next Friday will be my next weigh in..another 6 days of phase 1...hope I can minus another 5 - 6 pounds since the last time I weighed...(it will be 3 weeks next friday).

I just wanted to report that I started smashing today and it's not as hard as I was expecting. I really enjoyed my oatmeal, cinnamon, and banana this morning. It had been such a long time since I had old fashioned oatmeal...while it was cooking, I put my banana in the freezer so that it would remain firm when mixed with the oatmeal. I can't stand it when it gets mushy.
I also tried the Vigorous Vegetable Soup recipe on page 64...mixed in a cup of brown rice with it and it was yummy. I had to sprinkle some black pepper on it though, 'cause I was missing my salt.
I haven't been hungry at all today. I did start off eating too late this morning, so I have one more meal to go before I'm done for the day...it'll be something light like a plum or something.
I'm planning on making a stir-fry with tofu, veggies, and brown rice for dinner tomorrow. I'm not too good with creating different dishes, so it might be a challenge to not get bored before Day 9. Hopefully, we'll see more recipes posted soon.
I'm off to WOWY...gotta get my exercise done. I'll check in again tomorrow. Have a good night everyone.
This is day 3 of phase 2 for dh and I. We haven't really changed our menus a lot. We did have some grilled chicken on Thursday. And today dh made a beef stew with a small amout of lean boneless beef short ribs cut into tiny pieces. They we so small that I had to look for them. LOL. But, they did add some flavor to the stew. It was good. We decided to add meat twice a week and eat phase one foods the rest of the week. It seems to be working for us.
Linda~ Glad you are back on board!
bbobsgrl~ Glad you had a good first day. The nine days go by pretty fast. Hang in there.
Buttercup~ I was just telling dh today that I don't have a craving for bread anymore. I used to eat it at every meal. I believe that detox changed me, too. I don't want the things I used to.
SuziQQ~ I think you will like the diet. It is the last diet I will ever need. Actually, I look at it as more of a lifestyle change. I could eat this way the rest of my life.

Hello all! I am so thankful to have this page to read every morning. It is so helpful to see what other people are eating.
I am also interested to learn how successful others have been before me who have stayed on Phase I longer than 9 days. I really like Phase I! It's vegetarian -- which is a good thing for me. But I am concerned that staying on it too long will result in a plateau. I've done weightwatchers so many times and always had 2 good weeks of loss and then the needle stuck. Of course, it is easier not to cheat on this plan. I got too taken up with mixing pumpkin with cake mix and all of those other WW trick recipes.
So this has been relatively easy with a little planning. Even the weekend was not too bad, but I have not had to go out to dinner yet.
Yesterday:
B: Oatmeal with blueberries, herb tea with soy milk
S: Peach
L: Kinda hummus - mashed chick peas with a little garlic and cumin
How long have you been doing your walking workout? Since January? If so, it may be time to up the intensity a bit. If your body gets used to the workout then it becomes easier and therefore you burn less calories. Try to mix it up and challenge your body so that in a sense it does not know what to expect.
For the same reason, that is why my walking became running or if I do walk it is with some major inclines. I also do the stairmaster as well and I make sure I work up and sweat and get somewhat out of breath. I wear a Polar heart monitor so I know when I am in my cardio fat buring range. It really helps.
On the VERY positive side, WOW, I cannot wait until I can say I lost 23 pounds!!! Don't get discouraged, you are obviously committed so stick with it.
Thank you so much for the encouraging words, buttercupkitty! I think you are completely right. I have been doing the same exact workout at the same intensity for far too long - since January. Time to change things up. I like your idea of changing things up and think I am going to do intervals on the treadmill in addition to starting to lift light weights. I have a DVD from Kathy Smith called "lift weights to lose weight" that I am going to start using again.
Thanks for the congrats on the weight loss. Seems like it is coming off slow, but I think and hope that this time it will be permanent weight loss because I am making permanent lifestyle changes.
I don't see why we can't have peanut butter once we're into the phase where nuts are allowed. I wouldn't go for the stuff with added salt and sugar, but the PB I get is all natural, containing nothing but the nuts.
Hi, Dolphina! I've got about another 50 pounds to go. Let's do it!
That said, I've totally blown the Fat Smash yesterday and today, and I won't be able to start back properly until some time next week. In the meantime, I'll continue to eat as healthily as I can with what I have in the house.
Hey DishyFishy - I don't know this for sure but I woud think that all natural peanut butter, when in the phase where we are allowed nuts would be okay. At our local health food store they have a machine that grinds peanuts into peanut butter right in front of you. So that kind of peanut butter would think would be fine
Does anyone know if whey protein is allowed on Phase 1? I made myself a smoothie for a snack today which included 1/2 scoop whey protein and it tasted sooooo good. Here are the ingredients I used (BTW, I haven't posted this on the recipe thread, just in case the whey protein is not an approved Phase 1 item). I included the whey protein because I work out pretty intensely and feel that my body needs it.
4 oz. - lowfat yogurt (I used peach; use what you like)
1 cup - frozen non-sweetened strawberries (Walmart brand)
2 oz. - fat free skim milk
1/2 scoop - GNC 100% Whey Protein
I tracked my calories yesterday and thought I had stayed within range, but after re-figuring it again today I was under my calorie requirement by about 200 calories. I was figuring the calories for the brown rice incorrectly...was giving it way too many calories. I know the book states that calorie counting is not required, but I just want to be sure that I at least meet my minimum.
I'm only on day 2, but so far I'm loving this diet...oops, lifestyle change. I had soooo much energy last night and today when I worked out. Okay, I'm off to plan my meals for tomorrow. Have a good evening y'all. Keep smashing.
I lost 2.6 pounds this week. I am happy with that. My goal was to lose 2.6 more by the end of the month. I think I am going to make that!
I resisted doritoes, chips & dip and honey wheat pretzels last night. I didn't even want that stuff. I had fruit. I walked 5 times this week, sometimes in the rain. I am already at the point where I don't want to miss my walk.
Olivia, I think you are right... eating the 5 meals keeps the motor revvin' so so speak. If you can get that in, you may see a difference.
Ok Happy Weekend All!!
I find the book "vague" but I guess I'm interpreting everything ok so far because it is working. I emailed him about peanut butter but have not heard anything yet.
happy weekend to you too happy face!
You are right - 5 meals 'stokes the metabolism' - why am I still having such a tough time? I think I am not hungry so i don't want to take the time to stop and eat - so I am thinking my 3 meals are too big and need to make them smaller so I have 5 small meals. that is my goal for the coming week!
I have been all over that book and I can't find when nuts are allowed. They are mentioned as a food with fiber but I need guidelines.. which ones? How much? Does anyone know? Maybe I'm just missing it.
Hello Everyone. I am new here, I have been waiting to post to see how I like this diet. I started on 9-5-06 and the first couple days was great except the no meat part. I ended up loosing 14 pounds on the morning of the tenth day, and I really didnt want to eat any meat when I was able too. I started exercising the beginning of this week, and I am addicted to my treadmill. My sister is doing this with me which helps, we have a friendly exercise competition going on. Today we Walked for 90 min and went 4 miles. For the first time EVER I fell like I can do this LIFESTYLE change. I am not eating everything on my plate, which is unheard of for me.
