Ursula, your brother is in my prayers, as are you. I can relate, as my father was an extreme alcoholic... died of it... but people who knew him before he fell into this tell me what a fun, loving guy he was but just got caught up in a horrible thing that destroyed him. Two of my brothers have struggled with it too. My heart goes out to you.

I'm sorry Misti. Sorry you lost your father to this horrible disease. I hope your brothers are on the upswing from this. It is heartbreaking.

Bargoo - I saw him today in the hospital. I just kept remembering what you wrote from alanon. I didn't cause it, can't control it, can't cure it. I have been bashing my head about why I didn't see this sooner and I am finally letting that go. I just went up there and sat with him while he threw up the whole time and shook. Then I just said, where are you going from here? He said treatment. Don't know if that is true or just what he wanted me to hear. We'll see.

Thanks for the prayers to everyone. I also continue to lift up everyone here, also. I'll just keep on praying that God works his wonders and miracles on all of us.

URSULA ~ it's good that you are there to support your brother; there's a big difference between enabling and being supportive. Buying booze for an alcoholic is enabling, but encouraging him through the detox is quite OK -- and it will help him a lot to know that he has your full support.

I think all of us know someone who is or was struggling with alcoholism. People here have prayed for my brother (he had medical intervention and a very long enforced detox). Before that, he lost everything: his family, job, home, health, etc. He was in a lot of pain: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual, which he needed to get help with.

Sometimes, it has to get worse before it gets better; that is him hitting the lows. Many, if not most drinkers are good, but sensitive, hurting people who turned to alchohol to help them cope with life (in his case, grief).

Our grandfather drank too; but he stopped drinking & smoking, and accepted the Lord (was saved) before he passed away at 67 years old from cancer. GOD sent some great Christian people to visit him & they shared with him at the right time in his life; he was just ready then. There is always hope!

^Prayers^ continue for you & yours ...

Ursula- you and your brother and your family are in my prayers. I completely believe you when you say your brother is not a bad person. I had a good friend years ago that had a drug problem. Off drugs, he was the sweetest guy you ever met. He would do anything for anyone. On drugs- well, it wasn't that he wasn't a nice guy anymore, but he would lie. Alcohol and drug addiction can change who we are. I hope your brother has finally hit rock bottom, because it sure sounds like he's in a dark place right now.

Hey y'all. I hope everyone here is doing well. My brother is now in rehab. He made the "choice" to go when released from the hospital after my SIL said he wasn't coming home. It was rehab, or find another place to live, that she was done. He chose rehab. I pray this works and he really works the program. It is a 12 step rehab center.

Please pray that God works in his heart and mind and that my brother is open to learning about himself again and how to recover from this and to have hope that he can live his life without alcohol. It's time for him to face himself.

Thanks for all your prayers and support. I am constantly praying for everyone here, as well. seems like there are so many needs but I know God hears and knows them all. (((HUGS)))

Ursula, what an answer to prayer. He may need to go to a halfway house after he gets out of rehab, he needs all the help he can get and is willing to do his part. Praise God for the start your brother has made.

Ursula, so happy to hear about your brother. Will keep him and you in my thoughts and prayers.

Sissy still isn't wanting to use her leg all the time. I have ordered some glucosamine and Chondroitin for her and will give that a try too. If that doesn't seem to help we will probably have to do surgery after the first of the year. She is such a sweet little girl and just takes it all in. Of course she is loving all the attention that she is getting.
