Tae Bo

I would liek to buy a tape and start this exercise. Has anyone had success using these tapes?

ledom 07-30-2001 11:26 AM

Hi,

I'd like to hear from some Tae Bo doers too. I have been alternating the TB Basic Tape w/ another vdeo for about a week and a half now. I am very BAD at it. The kicks are almost beyond me, but I am going to keep it up. What I'd like to know is, does it ever get easier?

Swan_lake 07-30-2001 03:00 PM

TB

I know he has a msg. board on his product web page. I use to go there a lot, you can find a lot of people chatting about his tapes there... I use to work out to just his basic, and have lost weight, but along with other workouts mainly some form of walking..

IndyLauri 01-19-2002 10:24 AM

Tae-bo

HI! I am new here, but everyone seems very friendly and supportive. I LOVE the Tae-bo. I am 42 years old, and I love the low impact. The kicks at first were a little beyond me. I work in a doctor's office so I just pretend whoever irritated me the most that day is on the receiving end of my foot LOL!!
And it DOES get easier. Like everything else just give it some time.

lodyangel 01-24-2002 08:41 AM

I do Tae-Bo and LOVE it! It's a wondeful work out....yes it does get easier, but it takes time. Just keep it up....the advanced tape is REALLY, REALLY hard. I am talking so hard toward the end, the skinny, little, perfect, in shape, aerobic instructors he has working out with him are screaming! But hey, Keep with it and it is bound to change your body!

I don't do the advanced tape all the way through yet....like I said it is a process...and it takes time. Keep working at it.

Denise Austin has a really good kickboxing workout. It has 2 -20 minute workouts on the tape, and it isn't as hard as Tae-Bo. She drives me crazy being so peppy all the time, but her tapes are always good, so I just turn her down, and turn the music up!

Hope this helps!

IndyLauri 01-24-2002 08:55 AM

Tae-bo

lodyangel,

I don't do the advance workout all the way through yet either.:p
And I agree about Denise LOL!! She is a very nice person, I'm sure but cut me a break!!!
I alternate my tae-bo with an old (about 10 yrs) Jane Fonda step aerobic workout that I used to do. There's this really tall skinny woman on it who drives me nuts!! Shes always all smiling and "work your body now, yadda yadda yadda" LOL I try not to listen or look at her, but the work out is fabulous!!!
Gosh I need a saucer of milk this morning!! It's not quite 7 here in the foothills!
Have a great day!!

Hi everyone:wave:!

I've been posting on these boards for a while and I'm relatively new to Tae Bo but I do love it. I've purchased several basic workouts off of Ebay and alternate them so I don't get bored. I also enjoy Crunch videos and use those in between for variety. My question is how long was it before you notice a change in your body? I also have a hard time towards the end of the videos with some of the kicks but I do alternate moves or lower kicks until I'm in better shape and can keep up more. I really do enjoy the program though. Do you all do Tae Bo everyday?:)

IndyLauri 01-29-2002 07:49 AM

tae bo

good morning!! I exercise every day but alternate tae bo with a step work out. Sorry if I am repeating myself :D
When I was first doing the tae bo, I found it easier to hold on to the back of a kitchen chair during those last 500 or so round house kicks at the end of that first basic video. It's ok really. You are still moving that leg and working that bottom, however you aren't falling over!! LOL
I do feel much better. I felt better after a week. And noticed the pants baggin a little on my seat after about 2. Try and stay with it, and it gets easier.
I used to be nervous leaving my job downtown when it was dark about for about 2 months after we "fall back". Now I feel very fit and confident that if anybody jumped me I could maybe defend myself. (or atleast kick him or her in the kneecap LOL) Now, of course it's light outside still when I leave.
Everyone hang in there and keep up the good work.

Your closing signature is so .

Is all this tae-boing making your waist smaller?!?

IndyLauri 01-29-2002 07:35 PM

taebo

thanks on the signature. Appropriate for some of us eh? ;-)
Actually I find my waist line has shrunk but I still have that blubbery thing below my belly button LOL!! I wonder if lipo is in my future? (just kidding) I was wondering if anybody here used the ab-roller or something, and if so, does it make your stomach flat or just hard?
I probably went off topic here, sorry.

1day@atime 01-29-2002 10:34 PM

HI
I was just reading your forum on TaeBo, and I purchased the tapes about 2 years ago. When I first did them the basic seem so easy so I got the advanced. We'll it was hard and before you know it, things came up & i stopped exercising & the weight came on and now I'm back to the basic tape and boy is it hard.
The question about the ab-roller, I have one of those and it does help, but I think I have to get the fat off first before you even begin to see my abs  I got my at a garage sale, so it was cheap...
Back to tae-bo, are you all doing it every day? I would like to post here and maybe it will help be stay motivated...

IndyLauri 01-30-2002 06:17 PM

tae-bo

Oh my gosh!! I did the exact same thing last year!! Bought the advanced tae-bo cuz I thought the basic was easy!!! Anybody want to buy a barely used Advance Tae-bo workout? just kidding. Please stay with it you guys!! I don't know how old you all are, but I am 42 and I truly find it easier every day. I often forget how old I am. Somedays I tend to act about 30 years younger!!:p
1day: Did you read my tip about holding the chair? Very helpful on that last set of kicks. Eventually you will have your balance. For me when I gave up the chair, I felt very triumphant! Smug even :smug:
Thanks for the ab info! I know what you mean though. Good idea about the garage sale. This spring I'll have to look, if I don't find one before that.

1day@atime 01-30-2002 11:42 PM

Hello All
Thanks for the tip on using the chair, I just have to make sure I don't sit down and just watch the video...(I've been know to do that) I know what you mean on the age... I turned 40 last november and for the 1st time in my life, I actually feel older. I think gaining 10 lbs this past year and over 30lbs the last 4 years has taken a toll on my body. I have always been so active, but this past year, I've seemed to slow down (I've also been depressed about my weight)..
But this year I have made the committment to myself that I am going to lose the weight..

IndyLauri 01-31-2002 08:01 AM

I saw some "inspirational" tae bo videos, but I haven't watched one. I don't know if they would be motivational or spiritual, or what exactly. Anyone? And is there a workout on them? It's early in the morning here, so excuse me if I am incoherent LOL!!
1day: Keep the commitment going. We are here for you.
Gotta go. Must have coffee.
Lauri

1day@atime 01-31-2002 11:41 PM

Hello
I haven't seen the "inspiritional" tapes, are they selling them on tv? DO you do your workouts in the morning or nights? I have a hard time getting up and then in the evening it seems like I always have a excuse. I am determined to lose this weight. I would like to lose about 30 lbs. so far I've lost 2 lbs...
talk to you later..

IndyLauri 02-01-2002 08:54 AM

I saw them at the taebo web site.
I do my workouts at night. I work from 8 to 5, but I am up at 5:30 reading my e-mail, getting the boys' breakfast, and then driving them both to school. (and do you think they could go to the same school at the same time? noooooooo) LOL. One is in jr high and one is still i grade school.
Anyway, I actually look forward to my workout when I get home from work. (Am I a freak?):o I come home and fix supper, then do some computer stuff, then work out. Sometimes I don't feel like working out, but once I start I am glad I did. If I didn't I would be sitting on the couch watching TV, feeling guilty all night long.
Good luck! 2 lbs is a start. Just think that you only have to do that 15 more times!!! ;) IMHO, once you start seeing the progress, it's easier to keep the work and the diet up. Do you all agree?

Lauri

Jehari 02-01-2002 01:22 PM

WOW!! I am glad I found this thread! It's nice to see I have fellow Tae Bo-ers out there!!

I started with Tae Bo basic last February. I was 242 pounds so it took me a while to be able to get through it. Then I bought the advanced, and by July I was able to finish it. Then somewhere in August I just got bored and stopped doing it. Since then I've been hovering between 185 and 190 pounds. I just dusted off the Tae Bo advanced 3 days ago and could hardly get through the first 20-25 minutes!! SAAAAAD!!

I NEED MOTIVATION!! How about challenge?? Any ideas??

Gotta go for now!
Jen

IndyLauri 02-02-2002 08:41 AM

Jehari,
hello!! Congratulations on your loss!!! Keep up the good work!
And at least you got through the first 20 or so minutes!! I used to have a workout tape (think it was a buns of steel), and the woman in it said "do a little more each day". I always liked that/
My challenge this weekend is going to be Sunday. My husband and sons and I always like to eat chili on Super Bowl Sunday. My hubby makes the most excellent chili, and I just need to keep from scarfing it down LOL!! I will be good, I will be good.
Yesterday at work somebody made a Dairy Queen run and I actually abstained!!!! :smug:
People were trying to get me to order something too, can you believe that? "They have lo-fat yogurt blah blah blah" Why do people do that? The worst offender seems to be the person who started dieting with me, but gave up in the first week. My husband says she might be jealous, but I don't like to think that.
I have so far lost 13 lbs. Would like to lose 30 more.
Anyhow, enough yacking. I have to make grocery list and go to the commissary. ugh:p
Everyone have a great day!!!
Lauri

1day@atime 02-02-2002 02:30 PM

Hello All
Superbowl sunday will be hard for me too. I think I'm going to try and eat as many veggies as I can and try and stay away from the dips... they always get me in trouble.. ( you just can't have one)..
Jehari What a great weight loss. I know I too have a hard time getting motivated. I have a treadmill and alot of the tapes, & I have a hard time doing them.
IndyLaurie I don't know why people try and sabatoge us when they know were trying to eat healthy. I think some people just don't realize how hard it is to lose weight. I mean if you were a alcoholic, they wouldn't offer you alcohol and say oh,just one more. I don't think some people get it. But in your case your friend started this with you , she of all people should undestand.
we'll I need to run,,, go back to cleaning my house...
Have a great weekend...

Hey y'all!

Where is everyone?? Are we all hiding from our Tae Bo tapes?? I've been slacking for several days again, but somehow managed to get off my butt and do it today. 24 minutes of Tae Bo and about 5 minutes of muscle strengthening exercise. I am SO DONE for the day.

Everyone COME BACK!! Let's keep each other motivated! I know I need it. Shorts and swimsuit season is around the corner dontyaknow! I'd like to wear them for this year. My husband managed to drag me kicking and screaming to a water park last summer. It was the first time in about 9 years that I wore a swim suit. I would like to wear one this year without being mortified and paranoid!!

Anyhoo, talk at ya later!

I'm here... Just trying to decide if i want to Taebo or go outside and play in the snow... I guess if i go and play with the neighborhood kids that could be my exercise, plus it doesn't snow here very often..It will be gone by tomorrow..
I know what your talking about when we talk swimsuits... last year I went to the coast with all my cousins and I was so embarassed that I had to wear a swimsuit... I kept a tank top over me most of the time.. This year is gonna be different...
Count me in on keeping this forum going.

IndyLauri 02-06-2002 08:39 AM

hey!!! I am still here too!! still keeping up the tae-bo, how is everyone else doing? Were we good on Super Bowl Sunday?
I tried to get through the advance tae-bo tape, but with no success. :( All that bouncing around and jiggling just wipes me out LOL So I did what I could, up to the kicks where you have to jump, then I did the basic tape. I wish there was some MIDDLE tape or something.
Has anybody bought the new set of basic tapes? I saw them at the tae-bo web site. Are they good? Any feedback is welcome.
Been stressed at work, so the taebo after supper really helps. I told my co-workers I need life sized cutouts of some of our most obnoxious patients, so I can practice harder LOL!!
I'm kidding. I am really not a violent person, I just pretend to be LOL
Anyhow, I love this thread. It seems like we all have a sense of humor, bizarre or otherwise :D
you all have a great day!

Jehari 02-06-2002 01:08 PM

Hey there!

1Day: Playing in the snow with kids DEFINATELY counts for exercise!!! I think that's harder than Tae Bo!!

Lauri: I totally agree! The should be some sort of middle ground between basic and advanced. There is a major gap between the two. I am admittedly lazy today, but will get on it tomorrow. I'll be back!!

1day@atime 02-06-2002 09:40 PM

Hello All..
How long do you all do the basics before you move on to the advanced? I use to be able to do the advance, til I gained about 20 lbs... I just started back with basics. How often do you all work out? Right now i'm just at 3 times a week.. I guess if i want to see a weight loss I should do more...

IndyLauri 02-07-2002 07:29 AM

I work out every day after supper. I alternate taebo with a step aerobic tape to keep from getting burnt out. I have been doing the basic taebo since Jan1 and I STILL can not do the advanced all the way through. Am I old? LOL Part of the reason actually, is that I don't like all that floor work. I prefer the fast paced hopping around. The floor part bores me. And I have heard time and a gain that you can't really "spot reduce". YOu need to just get rid of all the fat. If anyone can disprove this I will be on the floor with billy blanks tonight!! :-)
By the way... I was looking in the mirror the other day, how did my mothers upper arms get on my body?
have a great day!

Lynzianne 02-07-2002 12:06 PM

Hi everyone!

I have had the tae-bo tapes for a few years now and have done them on and off. This year I began doing them the second week in January and have not missed a day since! I feel great after I complete the video each day and look forward to the next time I get to work out with tae-bo.

Anyways, I started with the basic video and did only that for the first 2 weeks, then I added the 8 minute video right after the basic for week 3, and week 4 I did the 8 minute, basic, and 8 minute again. The 8 minute really gives you a boost if you feel the basic is too easy. Now on my 4th week I am doing just the advanced video which is enough in itself!

Since beginning tae-bo I have lost 7 pounds, 4 percent body fat, and a total of 16 inches (I first started measuring after the first week, so it is actually probably more inches). Try to commit yourself to doing one of the tae-bo videos for 21 days straight (the 21 day challenge) and that will help you become better motivated to incorporate tae-bo into your daily lifestyle.

Hope this helps you all!
Lindsay

Smiling Sal 02-07-2002 12:37 PM

I used to do the Tae Bo Live Basic work out & loved it. I'm building up to doing it again, don't think my fitness level is quite there yet.

I enjoyed my vid as it is totally different to any other work out vid I have and Billy is very inspirational. Some of the barbie dolls doing the workout on the tape are a bit dire, but hey it' sfun.

I'll need to build up to doing it all again in stages as well.

Jehari 02-07-2002 01:34 PM

Hey there everyone!!

Well, didn't wake up feeling motivated today since I only got 4 hours of sleep, but after reading everyones posts, I'm feeling much more motivated. Thanks to everyone for posting.

21 day challenge huh? I'm up for that! (I think :^: ).

Sure. OK. Call this day one. Well, there is one day that will be a problem though. My DH and I will be making a trip to Jackpot NV next weekend, and I don't see myself doing Tae Bo in the hotel!! What would the people in the room below me think?? Maybe now is a bad time to try that. My situation is a little shaky right now. My DH is shipping off to Army Boot camp in 3 weeks from today. He will be gone for about 6 months so we are trying to get things all squared away, as well as spend lots of extra time together, so i don't know that I can commit to anything resembling a schedule until after he leaves. I'll just do my best until then.

As for today, I'm going to do my Tae Bo as soon as my daughter is done watching her video, or falls asleep. Whichever comes first.

Anyhoo, chat at ya later,
Jen

IndyLauri 02-08-2002 07:52 AM

good morning ladies!!
Lynzianne: thanks for the tip re: the 8 minutes video alternating. Good idea!! Congrats on the loss!!

Smiling Sal: I agree about the Barbie dolls LOL. There is one young woman on the advance tape whose fingernails just freak me out LOL. Do you guys know who I mean?
Somedays I really don't feel like working out, but then I start and I am glad I did.
I don't know how much weight I've lost, but I've been dieting and exercising since 1 Jan, and yesterday I wore my slacks that I haven't worn to work in 2 years!!! Dance, dance, dance!!
I am glad I found this web site!! I haven't had this much fun dieting ever!! ;)
A woman at work started dieting with me but lasted only a week. :( So I was afraid I was on my own, but so glad I'm not LOL!!
Are your families supportive? My husband and two sons are wonderful, considering me and God alone know what is going to show up on their dinner plates at night!!
I get so carried away when I start typing, sorry!!
Everyone have a good day.

Smiling Sal 02-08-2002 07:57 AM

Reading these posts has made me realise that I am missing my Tae Bo & the time is right to start working out to that tape again.

I may regret saying that come Monday afternoon after doing it on Monday morning. I take the weekends off or only indulge in very gentle exercise, family walks, etc.

Jen - Did you work out to the tape or just watch it. When I buy a new one I try & watch it couple of times through before actually doing it to let myself know what I am in for.

lauri - my hubby is supportive in his own way, although he is always offering bottles of wine at the weekend - not a great help. My two boys think it is a big hoot that mum 'exercises'. Although they love to try & keep up with the Tae Bo ones, so I'll need to use that as even more as an incentive to do it.

Carol

1day@atime 02-08-2002 09:47 AM

Good morning ladies
IndyLauri - I don't like the floor work either. I like to kick and punch, (preteen I'm kicking ex boyfriends):D , I had purchased a kickboxing bag (it stands) and was really into it about 2 years ago. Then I got busy and stopped the exercises. But i'm going to get it out of my garage today and start using it. As for the family support.. I'm single, so it's really just up to me. It's funny how I always seem to be to busy to exercise. But this last year I have gained 10 lbs and in the last two years gained 20...I have got to find the time.
Lynzianne I have never even tried the 8 min tape, so i'm getting that out today too.
Jehari Is your husband going to be stationed in the US? I would spend as much time with him that I could too. Remember you could take long romatic walks with him.
SmilingSal 21 day challenge, i'm up for it...

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Jehari 02-08-2002 10:56 AM

Mornin'!!

Indy:  LOL!! I know just which girl with the nails you are talking about! Had to laugh. My husband is very supportive. Especially now that after all these years, he is getting quite the belly on him!! Not for long though. His drill instructor will take care of that!!

Sal: When I first bought the advanced tape, I was gung ho and started to do it, but it wasn't long before I just sat down and watched it! :) I usually will try to do it the first time I watch it, otherwise, I might be too lazy to rewind the video and actually DO it!

1Day: I can only say that he will be in the US for the first couple of years. He has to go through LOTS of training. The first year he will specialize as a helicopter mechanic. After one year of service he is going to become a commissioned officer and begin flight training. They have qualified him to fly the Black Hawk. I can't tell you how wonderful THAT makes me feel. Seen the ads for the new "Black Hawk Down" movie??? Once he's a pilot, he could go anywhere. I hope not though. I'm pretty fond of the good 'ol USA and don't want to leave it.

I did the Tae Bo yesterday a little further than before. I really pushed it, and I can tell ya, I'm feeling it this morning. OUCHIE! But I'll do it again today. I'm on a roll!! And as far as floor exercises go, I kinda like them. I however CANNOT and WILL NOT do or attempt to do the jump kicks! The laws of physics and gravity would surely pull me apart and knock my house to the ground  !!

Anyhoo, glad to see everyone here! Talk at ya later,
Jen

IndyLauri 02-09-2002 07:51 AM

Jehari: I know what you mean about the good ol' USA. My husband has been in the AirForce for 22 years, and due to his job
I have not been out of the United States. When I lived up In Minot North Dakota I was pretty close to Canada though LOL!!
I have worked out this morning all ready. Since I've started regular exercise, I sleep like a rock at night!! 6 hours and BAM!!
I'm awake. I have to do something about this. LOL
Are you all dieting AND exercising? If so may I ask which diet? I just like to know what people have success with because we are all different. I am using slimfast, and then a lot of the recipes on this web site for my "sensible dinner". ugh LOL!! Sometimes I feel that if I see another green bean or another bottle of water I am going to hurt someone!!!!!

later girls!! have a good weekend!!

Jehari 02-09-2002 01:48 PM

Greetings!!

Well, yesterday's exercise session did not go very well. On top of already being super sore, my daughter found it hysterical to run under my legs during the kicks. I surrendered after only about 5 minutes. So then I tried jogging on my exercise tramp for a bit, but sore leg muscles and boredom ended that pretty quickly too. I think maybe I got 10 minutes of exercise combined. Saaaaad!

Today, though still sore and not at all ambitious, I forced myself to pop the tape in the VCR and move. I think perhaps I overdo things sometimes. I made it through only 20 minutes before I croaked today. But realistically, that's not bad is it? 20 minutes a day is better than nothing! I just started back at Tae Bo and somehow I expect myself to do an hour of it. I expect too much. I just have no patience and want to see results NOW NOW NOW!!

Lauri: I am dieting and exercising. I don't use any plan. I've done them all and failed. I've been on the 'ol weight loss roller coaster for YEARS. I've come to the simple conclusion that less calories in, more calories out is the only way for me. I use slimfast sometimes. I'm using it today cuz I know I'm going to overindulge in my spaghetti dinner tonight! Once again with the diet thing, I tend to over do it because I want results NOW! It is my biggest down fall. I go from eating tons of crappy foods and doing no exercise to eating 800-1200 calories a day and pushing myself through Tae Bo until I feel faint. I am trying to find the patience to go with a happy medium and make it a lifestyle change.

So anyhoo, that's my day so far. Talk at ya all later!

Good morning!! Yesterday I did my work out, PLUS I had to shovel a foot of snow from my garage door. LOL!! We only got about an inch of snow here, but the wind blew it all up against my garage. Plus it was heavy stuff. I also had to help my sons clean their rooms. What a job!! I think I got a whole weeks worth of aerobic just doing that!!!
Jehari: hang in there girl!!! As they say, (whoever they are) the weight did not come on overnight!! So it won't go OFF overnight!!
Everyone have a good day. I think I am getting what my lovely sons brought home from school last week. Sore throat, etc. ick

Hello All..
We'll I went over to visit my sister for the weekend, and I didn't exercise at all, and tonight we'll i'm to tired and I have to get things ready for the week.
Jen, I can somewhat relate about exercising with a kid around, my kid just happen to be my dog. I'll be doing my tape and he wants to be right beside me, once i trip over him, or accidently kick him:dizzy: he'll jump to the couch and watch from afar.
Lauri - I'm on WW, for the 3rd time. It seems to help me and I feel I need to weight in every week and for the accountability. If i do a diet drink i do the met-rx or a spirilin drink (from the health food stores).

My biggest problem is sweets, and ice cream. I feel like i deserve a treat everynight...

IndyLauri 02-13-2002 07:50 AM

hi!!! I'm back!! May I say, that thanks to the tae-bo and my diet I actually wore my size 8 pants to work!!! (I'm only 5'2" tall) Still have a little ways to go. I mean, my size is smaller but I still have some fat to get rid of!
I have started trying to use slimfast in conjunction with WW. The whole points thing is fascinating. My friend has given me some info, so I might have to check them out.
Keep up the good work girls!! I am 42, but I AM wearing a bathing suit this summer when I am on vacation. (nowhere exotic, just Indiana) My FIL has a pool!

take care ladies!!

Hello all!

Just wanted to drop in and let you know that I haven't fallen off the planet. I have to tell you that I haven't done anything resembling exercise the past few days. Things are really hectic. It's down to the last days before my DH ships out to boot camp, so I probably won't post much. When he goes though, I will be a regular! I will have lots of time on my hands and am looking forward to getting back into a routine. I want to look [[[HOT]]] when I go to his graduation!!

Anyhoo, keep up the good work girls!! I'll be back!!
