Hi everyone, I'm new here. Just finished a 30 min walk/run in preperation for a 10k at the end of spring. It went really well except I think running on the sidewalk is a little harsh for me. Where do you normally run?
miaka- check out the websites for running magazines and specialty shops like the running room, they have listings for races almost everywhere.
Hi Kookie I remember you from the other thread, ... I always run on the road or sidewalk, I don't like running on the grass because it's too uneven... Maybe treadmill running would be easier to start, the treadmill is easier on the knees. Congrats on your goal of the 10K, but since you are just starting out why don't you strive for a 5K, it seems to be more attainable for a begginer... Just a thought...
Welcome Kookie, I have founds tons of advise and more importantly - SUPPORT here . You are definitely among friends . Thanks for the tip on race search. I'll start looking
I did find that treadmill is easier on the knees, but so boring compared to running outside. You should find a pair of shoes with more cushioning and stay outside if you can!
I am a former NON runner! who is slowly transforming... LOL
I ran most of 5.5 km outside today!!!! (took 40 min , which maybe i walked 6 minutes of!) I am soooooooooooooooooooooo proud, i am almost bursting...
Though i have a **** of a cramp! lower abs... ouch!
I started treadmill running, but find it soooooooo boring.!!!!!!! . and easier than outside running? or is it just me!
i can run 8 km on the treadmill, but never could do even 2 km outside?? i think it works the body in different places?
Anyway. I am trying to get my fitness level enough to pass a major fitness test for a new career (police academy) i need to be able to run 5km in about 35 min. and do 10 FULL pushups...
It will be nice getting to know everyone . IF YA'LL have me!!!
Cheers
Sonja
Sonja ... How exciting for you the police academy ... I agree it is definitely much more difficult to run outside than on the dreadmill, but with practice it will get easier, I promise... I used to hate running outside, now I hate running inside and will run almost rain or shine outside...
Today I didn't run I worked back and biceps at the gym....... It's all good...
Hello! Haven't posted here much, but I pop in and read every so often. Been running regularily since July and am pleased to announce I successfully ran one mile in 11 minutes 50 seconds! I am so proud of myself and I just had to share my news. LOL
Also was wondering, how often do you replace your running shoes?
The ones I have now I purchased August and I run 10-15 miles a week. I was thinking I should buy new ones pretty soon, but wanted some input from you experienced runners.
And one more question: What do you wear for pants when running outside in the cold? I would like something that is closer fitting than the sweat pants I have been wearing, but have had no luck finding anything I like.
Yikes, I have one more question. sorry.
For those of you who run during a lunch break at work: How do you work it out so you get in a run then still have time to freshen up and eat a meal?
Laura ... On running shoes, if you are not getting sore knees, shin splints or other aches and pains keep running with the same shoes or 800 miles, whichever comes first OR take them to a running store and have them assess your shoes and they will let you know if you need a new pair. I know the Running Room I go to are quite honest if you need a new pair or not I went back twice before they recommended new runners, and even then they said I didn't really have to... As for pants, on very cold days -10c or more I wear two pairs of dryweave tights, on semi-cold days, 0 to -10C I wear one pair of tights...HTH...Here is my suggestion for lunch time runs... 5 mins to change into running clothes... run 30 mins....15 mins change and freshen up...10 mins gobble food down ...
Hi, I've been away for the past two weeks, but today I dragged myself out of bed and ran 5k and feel much better. That's precisely 5k more than the total amount I've run since 16 December...
I really must make sure I get back into the habit, as I'd forgotten how difficult it is to get re-started once you stop, far harder than just doing it regularly without thinking.
