I just completed week 5 of the program this morning! I am so very proud of myself! Didn’t think I could run the 20min/2miles straight! Well, I guess the program seem to have worked! The 30min/3mile doesn’t seem so daunting anymore!
Yesterday I did a C25K week 2 workout. I think I'm ready to move up. I might try week 3 day 1 tomorrow. My weight is holding at 220.4 though I have a feeling it's about to drop some. I've been holding there for a while and my diet hasn't been too bad (well Sunday was a calorie binge, but that was 3 days ago).
I also scored a pair of new balance shoes with all the bells and whistles for just 10 dollars on ebay. I used them for my work out yesterday, and I really like them. They were one of the pair I was fitted for at the shoe store. I had to pick between them and the Brooks. I chose to buy the brooks, but now I got the New balance too. So now I have 2 good pair.
How important are running socks? I got a pair of coolmax socks for like 7 dollars. But I only have the one pair. What socks to you ladies use?
Running socks are very important IMO, because they absorbe the sweat and wisk it away better, I have 3 pairs and love them! They are good to run in the cold because they don't stay wet from the sweat and my feet never get cold...
I didn't run today, I didn't do anything today ... Tomorrow is another day! I ate too much too dang!!
I've never run in anything but cotton socks but asked for some Cool-max ones for Christmas so we will see if they make a big difference. I love cool-max stuff for the rest of my workout wear but it's a pricy investment for socks!
I was supposed to run today...It's only 2:00 and we are already at about 4 inches of snow...And it isn't supposed to stop ANY time soon.
congrats to all the C-2-5k girls. You are all doing a great job sticking with the program!
As far a socks go...I mostly use cotton socks and do OK. I do have one pair of CoolMax I use if it is really hot, or really cold. Other then then my feet just have to cope.
I never thought running socks are so important. I guess because I normally run on the treadmill. But will definitely do some research on it.
I am into week six of the C25K program, still keeping up. I just noticed something really great: my resting heart rate has dropped! I've always had a slightly higher resting heart rate, in the 80s. I measured mine yesterday and it was in the 70s! It's just great to know! Although I am in this for the weight loss, but it's great knowing that my heart is getting something out of it too!
One problem I have is I’m always concentrating on how much time I have left when I am running. It makes it seem longer, how are you all keeping your mind off it when you are running?
Good fast upbeat music on my MP3 player, or an audiobook on the same. Sometimes I cover the display with a towel - and I can't see the wall clock and looking at my watch gets dangerous.
I had a crappy run today. It was cold and very windy. I ran a lot slower than normal because my body felt leaden and heavy . Also, one nostril ran profusely. Ah, the joys of running.
I did Week 3 day 1 yesterday. I was suprised at how easy it was. The 2 week rest and a slower pace really fixed me up. I'm taking things super slow. I'll work on speed later.
About lower heart rates... A month ago I gave blood and they always take my heart rate and blood pressure, that day my heart rate was 48! The nurse said that it was quite low and asked if I exercised a lot and I said that I ran. He then wrote something on the paper, when he left the room for a minute I peeked at what he wrote and it said: "Donor is athletic" WOW, I was soooo proud of myself, I never considered that I was athletic!! A lower heart rate I guess is a very good thing...
I didn't run today but yesterday I did 5.75k and it was cold, it was -9C, and damp at first, but once I was warmed up it was a really good run.
Modemama, congratulations on sticking to your program! Taking a break and proceed at your own speed is very important. In fact I didn't realize how important it was until I hurt my Achilles Tendonitis (I looked it up on the internet). I kept going because I wanted to complete the program on time as planned, but it just got worse. After a few days rest, I felt much better! And more determined to take better care!
Ilene, WOW, I can’t believe your heart rate is in the 40s. That’s almost half of mine. I wondered how long you have been running. I am more determined to decrease my heart rate than ever! Thanks for the motivation!
