Good Morning Ladies,
Congrats to you, BluWolf for your two pound loss. Way to go! Keep up the great work.
I usually walk a mile in about 15 minutes. But than I have been at the walking game for a few years now. I just think you need to build up to a pace that works for you to get your miles in. Does that make sense?
My kids every Monday morning come to school complaining of how tired they are and whine when I say that it is time to start doing their work for the day. So this morning, I brought in my 1 mile walking video by Leslie Sansone and had them walk with me to it. Out of my 7 Special Needs students 5 of them were able to do it. But I only really had 4 who lasted through the whole mile with me and they are the ones doing a great job with their work so far this morning. So I might have to incorprate this into my schedule for the day.
Well I need to go and get back to putting my kids work folders together for the week. Just thought I would share my news about walking with my students. Talk to you all later. Have a wonderful Monday!
Kerry

Glad to see you ladies walking.

Michelle L... don't look at it as a "restart" but as a continuation. As long as you don't give up on yourself, you're doing what you need to do.

I have slacked off this week. I missed 4 days in the past 7. I got up this morning and did my 3 mile walk though. I'm doing pretty good so far. I still managed to lose 1 lb in my SlackerWeek. I tried to stay mindful of what I was putting in my body and opted for items that were better for me and/or lower fat/cals. I love that the scale is going down.

I have walked 48 miles so far and hope to achieve 60 miles by September's end. Thanks for the motivation ladies. Looking good, but feeling better. Keep going!

I did the 3-mile Power Walk today. That gives me 46 miles for the month. If the weather is decent tomorrow, I'll walk on the bike trail.

Danica, are you using a pedometer? If so, you may be walking more than you think you are. A 30 or 40 minute mile is awfully slow. Pedometers are notoriously inaccurate. Try going to a measured track -- like at a high school or college or some bike trails are measured -- and see how long it takes to do a mile.

Also, your first month, don't be so eager to increase your miles by too much too soon. Some experts only want you to increase by 10% a week. A mile a day should get you to 30 miles for the month.

Thumbs up

Hiya ladies~

Been a while since I posted...but I am still WATP! I have almost reached my goal of 50 miles for the month. Not sure exactly where I am at since I have it written down in the WATP book. But the scheduled walking is up to 37 miles and most days I do more. And I also lost 1.5 pounds this past week so I am happy about that.

Bluwolf~WTG on your 2 pound loss this week!

And WTG ladies on all your walking for the month!

About using a pedometer...I too thought they were notoriously wrong. But...at first I was wearing it on my pants which was not a good place. It would add a step with any kind of movement which of course if you move in the chair it counted a step. So now I wear it on my ankle, on my sock-you get a much more accurate reading with it, or with mine anyway. It is just a cheap one that I bought at Target for $5 I believe. I know it is right because I walk at a park that has many trails and a map that shows a 1/2 mile walk, 1 mile walk and a 2 mile walk and I have measured it by that so I can attest to mine being accurate. JMHO I do think it wise to compare it to a trail or a measured walk though to test it's accuracy.

Keep on truckin' ladies

I'll check in Friday with my total miles for the month. And a new goal for October.

Walked 1.6 miles this morning.
Probably gonna go for another walk in a little while.

Really enjoying this time I get to spend with the boyfriend while we walk. Its relaxes me (odd enough) since I'm stressed out about tryin to find a job. We get quiet time to talk which is what I like.

Do yall walk alone? Or do you walk with a dog or a spouse?

Wow! Everyone has been doing great!

Kerry, I think it's terrific that you brought the L. Sansone tapes in for your students. Even if some couldn't keep up, surely they enjoyed working out. As I recall, not everyone in grade school gym class could keep up, but we all participated

I've had a great and busy few days - averaged around 4 miles daily! I'm getting into these Sansone DVDs too. September miles up to 51 - yeah baby! Over my goal and days to spare.

After this month and how I feel now, walking feels non-negotiable. I'm feeling the need to add something more to my workouts, maybe some light weights (as a separate exercise).

Keep up the good work!

Danica,

The way I count my miles is with Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds videos. 1 mile is 15 minutes. If you go to www.lesliesansone.com you can check her out. Her videos/dvd's are awesome and very motivating.

Your most welcome. Glad I could help.

You can find the videos anywhere really. You can go to walmart, target, kmart, www.amazon.com, www.ebay.com (becareful on any auction sites), www.overstock.com, bookclubs online, video clubs online, you can probably find these anywhere.

You can get them one by one or in the different sets. If you want to get sets.. I love the EXPRESS set! It has 1, 2, 3, and 4 mile express videos/dvds. I love them all! There are several different sets though.

Doesn't your treadmill tell you the miles you walked? I can't remember if mine does or not. If not... some podometers monitors miles, minutes, and steps. That might help too.

Thanks for the link to the quit smoking forum. I will have to go and check that out.

I passed my month's goal today. I've walked 51 miles in September.

Next week I'm traveling so it will be a challenge to get my miles in. In fact, I'm traveling two out of the four weeks in October, so I think I'll revise my goal downward some. It is very difficult to keep up the miles in a strange town.

Congratulations everybody on a great month of walking!

Default Happy Walking

WTG ladies on getting your walking done and making those goals!! Keep up the good work!

I had a goal of 50 miles for the month of Sept. and am happy to say I hit 60 miles!!! So hooray!! Hooray for all of us. Even if you didn't make goal-the important thing is you walked! Now to make a goal for Oct.

Danica~2000 steps=1 mile and for the most part I do a mile in 15 mns. also. A pedometer is a good thing to buy. I know some don't like them but my little cheap one is pretty accurate. I measure it by the walk at the park and by the treadmill. And yes the WATP videos/dvds are awesome! I haven't used mine much since the weather has been nice-I so enjoy walking outdoors. But know I will be dragging them out when it gets too cold or rains. I like to mix things up so I don't get bored with it. Anyway, I got them at Wal-Mart but when I bought the book it had the one-mile dvd in the back of it-I go tthe book at Target for $15 which isn't bad at all considering it came with the dvd.

Sillyfluff~I walk with my daughter early in the morning. I think if I had to walk alone I would rather do the treadmill. I would take my little dog but he doesn't like strangers and would bark at everyone! Plus he is old and I think he would tire before a mile!

Anyway, take care ladies. See ya next month!
