Viatre, I would suggest taking it easy and just walking most of your off-days from conditioning. You don't want to overdo it and injure yourself! If you feel up to running great, but don't push it. There's no c25k police who will come and get you for taking a couple extra weeks on W4! Stick with W4 and don't move on to W5 until you really feel ready for it.

Today was day one of C25K for me. I've been doing 60 minutes of 3.0/3.0 on the treadmill but will only do that on my off days now.
Do you all do every other day of C25K or keep it to 3 days per week?. |
I am on week2 day2 today. and i try to do every other day
|
Finished week 1 about an hour ago! :carrot:
Excited to start week two! To answer the question from the pp.... I try to keep at least one day in between workouts! |
Week 4 is finally complete - yay!!!
I have been trying to do Week 4 for 4 weeks believe it or not. I started four weeks ago, and managed two days of it, then fell ill and had to take two weeks off running. Then I started again two weeks ago before Christmas, and only managed one day before Christmas overtook and there wasn't time. So I started again this week and it is now done! Bring on week 5! I go out 3x a week, which is more or less every other day anyway. |
Has anyone waited to start C25k until under a certain weight? The last time I started the program (months and months ago), I ended up with killer shin splint pain and very tender pain in the soft tissue between my heel and inner arch of my left foot... And I still feel that pain a little from time to time, which I think is a result of my busy life and my heavy weight that I carry on my poor feet throughout my daily schedule.
I was thinking about using my elliptical to build up stamina and endurance without suffering from impact, then starting C25k once I am under 200 pounds. I really, really, really want to see myself as "a runner," so it is motivating to have to lose weight in order to be able to start. Anyone else with this problem? If you waited until losing weight, did your joints and shins behave? |
I actually didn't start running until I hit my goal weight. I didn't have any problem really losing weight, but when I got there my body was so soft and flabby still I wanted to firm it up.
The first time I tried I got a nasty pain in my calf for a week or so, then I damaged my heel and had to stop for a bit, but once I got myself some proper running shoes instead of just trainers I was fine. |
Well, I did W5D2 today, two 8 minute runs with a 5 min walk in between.
I was so worried as I'd been finding the 5 min runs hard going and I thought I'd never be able to manage an 8 min run!! But I actually found it easy! I got into a stride and my legs were fine, my breathing was fine and I didn't feel my chest hurt at all - I could have carried on for ever!! During the 5 min walk I was actually itching to get back to running!! So the next one is a 20 min run, and I am feeling MUCH better about it now than I was on Monday. |
Robsia, you know, even now, my 1st 1/2 to 1 mile is the hardest. I take a while to hit my stride, then it gets easier :)
|
My dad said the same thing - he used to run as a young man.
|
I totally agree with this too! If you can just get to that one mile mark, it seems easier after that...crazy how that works!

I was supposed to do w3d2 today but the wind is horrible outside. It was a raining earlier. These are the days I wish I had a treadmill. |

I'm on W1D3 and so far I can do it. I tried last year when my weight was higher and my knee swelled up after the first day. My Dr. said "no way" and that was the end of that until now. I know some people here do run successfully at higher weights but my knees just couldn't do it.

Week 5 COMPLETE!! - I did a 20 minute run yesterday nonstop - never thought I'd see the day.
It got harder after about 15 minutes and my ankle started to hurt a biut, but I pushed through and I did it. After I had stopped and sat down for a while my left calf stiffened up a LOT even though I had stretched it before and after running. But this morning both ankle and calf are fine, so there was obviously no damage done. |
