Speedwork this morning. 5 x 800 metres with 200 metre walk recoveries, for some reason I thought it was 8 reps not 5 so planned a longer route, I ended up doing a longer cooldown at the end as it was my commute to work so I had to get to the end of it. It feels odd walking during a run, I spent most of last year trying to eliminate walk breaks, but hopefully whoever wrote the programme knows what they were doing!

Tomorrow I'm going on a protest run - running in circles round the town hall - so it will be interesting to see what my Garmin makes of that. They've cancelled the local half so we're protesting about that.

Helen, I hope your protest run is effective! :D Sounds like it'll be quite a time!

I logged four miles today in the 19*F chilliness this morning. So cold! I actually wasn't that iced, but for my face.

Heather, if I figure out how to do on-line baking I will certainly let you know! Sounds like a great low-cal option!!!

 everyone else!

Hi everyone!

I'm just checking in. I haven't been running, as you know, because of this whole growing-a-person-inside-me thing! I feel like an alien most of the time. At least I've started walking and doing a prenatal yoga DVD, so my energy level is back up a little, but I still pretty much would rather sleep than do anything else.

I have some cool news, though, regarding running. Last year I did this training team thing through the YMCA for a local 10K (it was my first race). I'd just started running a few months prior, and my husband was one of the coaches (he coached the advanced runners, though). Well, this year I've been asked to be one of the coaches as well! Sadly, I won't be able to because I can't run now (I didn't know what to tell them, because I haven't told people about the pregnancy yet, except for a few friends and family and my 3FC friends). I'm thinking about just coming along (it's every Saturday starting at the end of this month) and talking to the new runners about my running experience. Maybe I can give them a little motivation and inspiration, and then I'll just head out with the walking group when it's time for the run/walk. I can just be there as a resource for the new folks, maybe? We'll see! Anyway, I was excited to be considered for it. I'm pretty sure my husband will coach the advanced runners again. The nice part is that even though I'm not a member of the Y anymore, I'll be able to use it on those Saturdays.

Thank, Renee - true enough!

Kara - sounds chilly!

Helen - good for you, wow! Let us know if it confuses your Garmin!! ;)

Lisa - as usual, a fine idea!  You have so much to offer, and it keeps you involved - brilliant!

I'm going to run again today, on the treadmill. I'm trying to build up to MOST days... at the moment I am on every other day, so wish me luck! ;)

Heather :D

YP1 01-15-2008 09:23 AM

Lisa, I think it would be great to still have some involvement in the whole training thing, let us know how it goes!

Scenestealer 01-15-2008 09:38 AM

Lisa, congrats on being offered that role! Pretty flattering.

My thigh was feeling better yesterday, and today is the early registration deadline for the 1/2 marathon, so I decided to do a quick mile on the treadmill this morning and then see how it feels. So far, no pain. If it's still fine by 11:30 PM tonight, I'll chalk the injury up as a one-time thing and assume that I'll be able to do the race. I'm really nervous - I SO want my leg to be okay! I used my new foam roller after the run this morning, which I think will help, but we'll see...

YP1 01-15-2008 10:18 AM

It seems as though the treat of me turning up in lycra has had an effect - apparently the half is back on!!! (they've moved it from May to September, but it will be happening).

YP1 01-15-2008 12:31 PM

I've just noticed something on my running log. Since I started tracking my running in January 2006 I've run 3004.4 miles (in 19 days, 4 hours and 11 minutes, if you're interested...)

:carrot: :carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

Scenestealer 01-15-2008 01:25 PM

That's a really neat way to compute it! I wonder if I've even run a day in the year since I started :)

3fcuser1058250 01-15-2008 11:10 PM

YPI --- That's a really cool calculation :high:

ennay 01-15-2008 11:13 PM

sniff sniff...my running log used to tell me cool things like that but cool running up and sold us out :(

tomandkara 01-16-2008 12:12 AM

Helen, at first I thought you meant you ran over three thousand miles in 19 days! That would be unbelievable! Still, great accomplishment!!! :cheer::cheer::cheer:

Kara

LisaMarie71 01-16-2008 06:58 AM

ennay, you should switch to runningahead.com. I've been using that one since last January and I love it. I think that's what Helen uses too (correct me if I'm wrong!) There's a group on the forums there that is dedicated to running for weight loss, and we do little weight loss challenges and things and weigh in each week (well, I don't anymore, but it was fun while I was doing it). I never tried the coolrunning log, but I know lots of people have migrated over from there recently.

I plan on walking today in the cold... I'm praying for snow tomorrow morning because there's a chance of it and I REALLY want a snow day. What's the use of being a teacher if I don't get any snow days? I mean...really. :dizzy:

LeedaRenee 01-16-2008 08:19 AM

Oh my gosh, runningahead.com is the coolest! Thanks so much for sharing it. I hadn't thought I would use a running log right now, but the features are so neat. Headed out the door right now to do 3 miles.

Chelavon 01-16-2008 08:37 AM

I can't thank all of you enough for the advice. I needed it so bad. I am going to go buy my new running shoes today, YAY ME!!!!!!
