Ennay - I'm sorry, I had to laugh at your post... when I lived in England I used to drive the A40 from Gloucester to Oxford twice a day - bloody stupid pheasants would, I SWEAR, wait for my car and then dash out into the road and stop, staring at me while I had no choice but to run into them... and I LIKE stupid pheasants! (The worst day was when I got home, the two dogs came to meet my car, and licked the wheels... :barf:)

Kara - I blame my 'magic' new shoes for keeping me running - they are SOOOOO comfortable!

Ilene - there's a little terrier near me that leaps about 3 feet up the 4 foot fence when I run by - I always wonder if 'today is the day' that little rascal will come over the fence and I'll spend the rest of my run with a Jack Russell hanging off my leg!! I'm FAR more frightened of small dogs than big ones... odd, I know I am! ;)

Midwife - how long have you had that sensor, then? How many miles are people getting?? And Kara - any joy with yours?

Helen, you running fiend, you ;) I didn't know we could recycle our shoes!! I'm going to ask at The Running Room if we have a programme like that set up here...

I'm going to do some short hill work later. Have a good day all!
Heather :D

I'm the same I am a beeeeg :chicken:

No running for me today, off to the gym in a bit...

YP1 01-25-2008 03:16 PM

I did 11.25 miles to work this morning. That was my long run for the week, because tomorrow I'm doing a cross country race, and I like to keep Sunday as my rest day. I'm not taking the cross country particularly seriously, so I'm not bothered about doing it the day after a long run, and it wasn't as long as I've done the past two weeks anyway because it's a bit of a stepback week.

It was SOOOO windy this morning, luckily the last 3 or 4 miles I had it behind me, it was such a relief not to have to fight it any more. My main problem wasn't the wind though, it was the fact I went out for drinks with work people last night and drank rather more wine than I had been intending. My head cleared after a couple of miles though, so it wasn't so bad.

I hope you manage to find somewhere to recycle your shoes - this is my local scheme.

Thanks for the link, Helen!

Three more miles for me today. That finished off my stepback week. I've done more miles this month than I ever have in a month before, so that's exciting! All those three milers are adding up!

Heather, I told Tom that you got the shoes on my recommendation and he was practically floating! He was so excited that you liked them!

Hope your gym time was fun, Ilene!

Cross country today wasn't as utterly horrific as it could have been, at least it was mainly on grass rather than mud. It was the north of England championships so there were loads of people there, they had races at all age groups from under 13 up to senior, and there were lots of fast people in my race. I'm a lot slower doing cross country than I am on the road, so I fully expected to be shown up.

My other problem with cross country is my lack of off road shoes, but I just don't do enough cross country to merit buying any (I usually only do it if I'm bullied into it!). But it was grass rather than mud so I thought it would be OK.

Although it was the northerns and people travelled miles to be there, it was actually only a mile from my house, and I was helping out with setting it up too. So I walked down there and got there for about 9.30, set our section of the course up for an hour or so, then walked home to use a non chemical toilet and get a hot drink. Then I walked back and got there at about 11.45, the senior womens race was at 12.25, we watched some of the juniors before we set off.

The race wasn't actually going too badly until after about 3.5 or 4 miles (it was an 8k race) I slipped on a patch of mud (no trail shoes...) and went flat on my face. I picked myself up and started again, then realised I'd lost my number so had to go back for it, then tried to get back into it. I was a bit shaky though so had to take walk breaks over anything difficult because I'd lost my confidence. Still, at least I didn't do any permanent damage when I fell, and I still finished 3rd of the 6 runners from my club.

I was going to stay and watch the men, but I was getting a bit cold and hungry so walked back home to get something to eat. I might head back out there in a bit though to help take the course down and go for a drink at the end of it all!

Gosh Helen! That's terrible :( Although also quite amazing... if *I* fell I think I'd just lie there and hope no one saw me! ;) You are AMAZING!!

3.25 miles for me today, at 6mph. Need a shower now - peeeyoooeee!

3fcuser1058250 01-26-2008 02:51 PM

Helen -- Glad you didn't hurt yourself...

Heather -- Yes, please go take a shower, I can smell it in Eastern Ontario

Just back from 4.89k... it was very nice sunny and bright ... Now I'm off with DH for a walk :D it's alll good....

YP1 01-26-2008 03:48 PM

Heather - I have to admit that my main motivation for getting back up and carrying on was that my clothes were at the finish and the fastest way to get there was to run as much of it as I could. Not that amazing ;)

Was supposed to do 7 today and 12 tomorrow but the forecast for tomorrow is freezing rain...and since it "never" ices here I dont have yak traks.

So we did 12 today, at about 8 the rain started, at about 9 it started getting very icy. We slid our way over to the track thinking we could run on the grass. Usually the track freezes before the road, but it absorbs more and its been really dry this week, so finished up my 12 on the track and by then the sidewalks were sheet ice. I nordic skied my way home. I seriously looked like I was on a ski machine.

May not be able to run for a few days, it is supposed to be nasty ice tomorrow.

Five miles in 45 minutes 26 seconds today!!!! I was stoked!

Helen, sorry about your fall. I would've stayed down myself. Actually, I would've run home and got in the shower.

Hope the shower was nice, Heather! Stretching and showering are my favorite parts of running. :D

Ilene, hope your walk was nice.

Ennay, sounds like quite an adventure out there today! Enjoy your days off.

Kara

That is very fast Kara!

The ice hasnt come yet so I squeezed in 6.3 before taking dd to a birthday party. Chuck e cheese. I am more tired from the party than the run.

Scenestealer 01-27-2008 07:46 PM

I did my half-marathon today!!!! And I made my goal of a sub 2 hour time. Just barely, but I did make it. I put a race report on my blog, but one extra thing to note: I'm doing The Biggest Loser challenge here, and I had the theme song on my iPod. At mile 5 I got a fantastic runner's high from thinking of the TBL challenge -> 3FC -> all of you. So thanks for your unknowing support! :)

And now bedtime for me... I am zonked.

ennay 01-27-2008 10:56 PM

woohoo!!!!

tomandkara 01-28-2008 12:14 AM

Way to go, Laura!!! You rock!

My crazy motivating song is "Stacy's Mom". I sing to myself "Connor's mom" and then "Kadyn's mom" and then "Avery's mom" on different verses. Not that I want to be pursued by my kids' friends, but I definitely want to be in good enough shape that I don't look like a frumpy momma. :D
