And they did!! I'm now a pound below where I was when I fell off the wagon before!! And VERY happy about it... :-)!!

HeatherAngel 01-12-2008 10:15 PM

4.5 miles for me today -still working on building distance!

Heather :D

PS - Ilene: conquering one helped me work on conquering the other!

tomandkara 01-13-2008 09:05 AM

Looky looky!!! My girl moved!!! You can see the whole zero!!!

I went out for my five mile run this morning and my iPod conked. It turned on but then refused to start logging my miles and wouldn't put any music on. AND I couldn't turn it off. Weird! My husband fixed it, though. I got our son a shirt that says, "My dad can fix ANYTHING!" and it's so true. I tell him that's why I keep him around. :)

So at least I'll have my music for my run on Tuesday. Tomorrow's a rest day after running both yesterday and today.

Kara

LeedaRenee 01-13-2008 10:34 AM

Kara, could your husband fix my Ipod too? lol Congrats on your girl moving hehe :)

Heather, awesome on the 4.5 miles :)

Ilene, thanks for the comments on my pics. I hope your cold gets better soon and you are up and running (pun intended!) soon.

artsnsmarts, congrats on the pound loss :)

I'm doing my first 5 miler whenever DH wakes up to watch the baby. I'm pretty tired today, baby woke up a ton last so I'm hoping I'll feel better once I get running.

midwife 01-13-2008 02:40 PM

Yea, Arts! You get a dancing carrot! :carrot:

Another ditto on your pix, Leeda! :carrot:You are looking trim, girl!

Way to go on the 5 miles, Kara! :carrot:I love that your dh can fix anything. That's the same way with mine. He is my IT guy, and my mechanic, and etc....

Good job on 4.5 miles, Heather. Another dancing carrot! :carrot:

Ilene, I'm kicking a cold too. My throat has been sore and I hate being sick. I hope you feel better soon.

Today I used our Bowflex for the first time and did a lower body workout! Tomorrow I will do arms. I've been wanting to start strength training for a long time and I finally did! Later today I will run at the track with my sil. I'll do some speed work, and I'll still be slower than sil. Alas! I am surrounded by athletic folk!

Have a good Sunday all!

My Garmin did weirdness too this morning Kara...I have it set to record a lap every mile. So at the mile mark it chimes and tells me my pace for the previous mile. It chimed 1 mile. It chimed 2 miles. Awhile later I look down and it says that my total mileage is 1.7 miles. ???? I reset it at the corner that I know is ~ 2.5. It was like it started running backwards and taking mileage away. The kicker is when I looked at the history it showed the 2 miles as complete and then no miles for the next 4 minutes.

LeedaRenee 01-13-2008 06:11 PM

I did 5.14 miles today. I decided to take the dog with me, though I knew she would slow me down, what with pooping and sniffing. We ended up doing it in about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Gosh, I'm slow! Oh well, no where to go from here but up!

Chelavon 01-13-2008 06:20 PM

My goal is to run for exercise!!!

Hey all, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Chela and I am just now making the commitment to loose all this weight. I want to acheive my goal of running for exercise. I want to maybe run in spurts with brisk walking to start off. So any advice from those who started this way would be really helpful. I weigh 261 and was really wondering if those who started at this weight, how did jogging or running effect your knees and things like that. Were you able to get to a weight and it was less of a stress on your body?

tomandkara 01-14-2008 06:49 AM

Hi gals! I had to check in even though I didn't run today.

:welcome2: Chela! Sounds like you have a great plan. Start slow and add in more running as you feel motivated to!

Leeda, you had me  with taking your dog for a run! I think if I ever took my dog out, I'd get done in half the time, but she's a lab and I worry about her hips (she's 8) so I don't take her running. Tom probably could fix your iPod. He's magical. Too bad we're not closer!

Ennay, maybe there was a weird magnetic field around the earth or something? How bizarre! Do you like running with your Garmin? I got Tom one for Christmas and I wonder how it would work. Is it heavy? We actually don't have it in hand yet because they couldn't ship over here, so it's waiting at his dad's for when we get back to the States next month.

Thanks for all the carrots, midwife! You're super! I'm glad to hear you like your Bowflex. Sounds like fun!

 artsnsmarts! Way to go on the pound loss. I've managed to gain five over the past two days. I always gain right when I ovulate, which is so frustrating! Perhaps I could get my scale together with yours and you could give it a little pep talk about being nice?

Off to finish up my evening. Kids are abed and I'm going to do some on-line banking and then start a new book. I'll check in tomorrow!

Kara

I feel the love!!!

Thanks for the Welcome tomandkara!

I want to live a healthier life. I let myself get like this so now I have to get myself out of it.

Great plans for me & my family in 2008!!!

LeedaRenee 01-14-2008 07:56 AM

Chela, welcome :) There was just a thread not too long ago that you might find interesting here
and I think there's another one similar to that's up right now. The first one is buried in the second page. I hope you meet or exceed all of your expectations for 2008!

Kara, your dog must be awesome if you can finish with her in half the time. Mine has to stop and sniff every special spot and God forbid she sees another dog. She whines and cries like she's dying. I think at one point she got too tired to be interested in much else. Too bad you can't run with your lab, but I dont' blame you about worrying about her hips.

Has anyone seen the new garmin? It looks very neat, it's small like a watch. It's $318. I'm not ready to invest that much until I start running a lot more miles.

Garmin 405

Edited to add: today is a rest day

HeatherAngel 01-14-2008 09:35 AM

Morning!

Chela - :welcome: - do have a look at the Couch to 5K programme - there are lots of beginner running programmes to choose from - just don't worry about speed, and don't push yourself when you start! Good luck!

Kara (and Renee!) - I can't run with my lab - he gets tired, but he also has to smell EVERYTHING (we call it him 'checking his tree-mail') and tends to want to pull me over. At least when I run inside I don't feel bad leaving him alone! ;)

Oh, and Kara? I must not be awake yet - I read your post as 'going to do some online baking' - and that sounded VERY interesting to me!! :lol3:

Arts - great news on the pound lost! :yay:

Ennay, midwife - hey chicks! Midwife - thanks btw for liking my home decor! ;) I made the cushions to match the drapes - the same fabric is on a pelmet at the top of the window. Someday I hope to be creative enough to recover my dining chair seats in the same material, but oh my - haven't got a CLUE how to go about doing THAT!

Have a great day everyone - think I'll do some hill work today, and since it snowed last night, aiming to get in a bit a slope time!!

Heather :D

YP1 01-14-2008 04:43 PM

I did 7 miles this evening, I was meant to be taking it relatively steady because I have speedwork planned for tomorrow, but somehow managed to do the last mile in 7:32. It was downhill, but still! I think I got a bit carried away.

I find the Garmin quite big compared to my old Polar. I'm really aware of having it on. But I'm not sure I like the new 405 - one of the things I like about the 305 is the amount of info you can see on the screen and it seems that with a smaller screen you'd lose a lot of that. Plus it's a lot more expensive, so I'll stick with the 305 for now.

Chela - welcome. I'm one of the many people here who started at a heavy weight and didn't suffer any horrible problems with it. Take it easy, listen to your body and you'll be fine.

HeatherAngel 01-14-2008 06:41 PM

A nice easy 3.1 miles outside today, in the snow! It was fun :) NOT skiing tonight after all - just being a lazy girl! :D

LeedaRenee 01-14-2008 09:41 PM

Heather, 5k is NOT lazy ;)
