hi, i watch my carbs, solidum, sugar, fat and calories. i was wonderin is splenda safe for me and do i stay with sweet-n-low? i lose 3 lbs so im doing good.
Sweet & Low makes me sick and is not that great for you. Splenda is a great substitute. My doctor recommended it. All I can use though is also splenda. It does not cause headaches and it is a healthier choice for sugar substitutes. Plus it tastes better. Good job with the loss of 3 pounds!
I was just recently found to have diabetes. I'm currently taking metaformin once a day. My sugar has been around 115-120 most of the time. I haven't able to see my doctor. How do you think this is.
When I first got tested on a fast it was around 200 so it's definetly went down!
BBWonWheels................... My personal oppinion with the atkins diet is that it is very unhealthy and could harm someone. If the atkins diet was any good for you they would not have more and more lawsuits and they would not be filing bankruptcy. I have done it a couple of years ago. However, it is not realistic or healthy at all.

Valerie....................... sorry to hear. I think you should see your doctor on a regular basis if your on medicine especially. I have just recently been diagnosed with prediabetes, test my blood daily, but no meds at this point. But I would see your doctor. I was told anything around 120 or above is not good news!! So you might want to mention that to your doctor. You may need a difference medication... though I am not sure. But I would check this with your doctor and see. I would think your sugar levels would be lower then 100 if you were taking the proper medication for it. But again, I am not your doctor. You really should go and see your doctor. You don't want to risk your health. Diabetes can cause way to many problems if left untreated.
Hi everyone.. these are very good questions to ask.. and even doctors give conflicting info..we need to remember that each of us is diff and what works for me might not for you.. and to follow your drs advice as they know you.. my dr is happy if i can keep my slevels below 150.. she likes my ac1 to be 7 or lower and the last ck up mine was 8.1.. so she sent me to a diebetic nutrion class where i learned alot even tho i thought i knew it all .. my slevels have come down alot and when mine is 120 im dancing for joy ..if mine go below 100 i get shakey and disorientated and feel like crap.. i feel best around 120-130.. so i try and strive for that.. thats me tho..you have to experiment and see with your drs help what works for you..hope this helps some..i think a slevel of 120 is awsome ..its nice to share info ((((((((hugs))))) rosey
Unfortunatly right after I was told I had diabetes I lost my insurance so I was never able to go back to my doctor for a follow up visit.
I'm almost out of medication so I will have to try and get it refilled somehow. It's embarassing but maybe my doctor will talk to me on the phone for free and refill.
I really don't understand what an ac is. Most of my information I've gotten from the net.
I just recently lost my job due to health issues and of course my insurance was canceled right after
Hi, all. This thread is perking for a change. Hi, Rosey. Snow. We have alternate overcast and sunny days. Love Autumn. My s-levels are in the low hundreds during the day but the morning fasting levels are in the 140s, 150s and 160s since I went off the Actos. This bothers me and I'll take it up with my endocrinologist in a couple of weeks. On the other hand, my A1c was 5.5 which is terrific.
BB - forget Atkins. It's terrible for diabetics and most everyone else. If you want a name diet, try the South Beach. That's much better. Just watch your calories and carbs.
T - An occasional cookie won't hurt you although I'd stay away from Oreos and other packaged cookies because they contain a lot of transfat, which turn the free radicals loose in your body. (Bad).
I had a little slipup this weekend on my fast. Hope I still lost some this week.

Hi neighbor! I just realized your in Illinois too! Anyway, I don't have regular insurance either. You can go and get a medical card though! That is what we have. Just go to your local public aid office. All you can do is apply. They help people alot. This way you can hopefully still see your regular doctor (if they will take that card if not see another doctor and take your records from your old doctor) or you can get a new doctor. At least you will still be able to get your needed medical attention.

Thanks for telling me this! I had no idea! I am going to read those labels like crazy. I am hoping to make the chocolate chip cookies with the new splenda brown sugar one day. I can only eat one cookie.... and that takes forever lol. So it is nice to know I can do that still. Lol.
Lost another pound! I'm so relieved that my scale is going the right direction since I came home from visiting.
I hope things go right that you'll be able to get a medical card.
Gotta go-company.
I just wanted to chime in about the atkins diet. When I first found out I had diabetes a little over a month ago I had heard that atkins was good for us so I tried it.
About a couple days into it I was in such bad shape. I became horribly depressed and my thinking was foggy. I was forgetting names and doing stupid dangerous things like leaving the oven on. Since carbs affect serotin it affects mood and thought processes.
I'm not saying it's bad for everyone but it took me about a week to get back to normal after doing it.
Yes, atkins does that. I got really, really sick with it. Even with the south beach I got sick recently. I have heard to many negatives about these diets (lifestyles). My one doc is for them but my other doc is against them. It is a catch 22. But if you want to stay healthy you just follow the food paramid and portion sizes.
Hi everyone. I am new. I just found this forum today. I have found so much encouragement from reading you alls posts. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in March. I did very well on my diet and exercise for several months. My doctor told me if I watched what I ate, exercised, and lost weight, I could probably avoid taking meds. So I gave it my all. When I went back for my checkup, I had lost 35 lbs. My a1c had gone from 7.1 down to 6.1. My doctor was very pleased and told me to continue with whatever I was doing.
Well, then I started eating some sweet things again. I pretty much stopped exercising. I know I have put on at least 10 of the lbs that I had taken off. I haven't even felt good for at least a month now.
I decided yesterday to get back on track. I worked hard stacking wood. Then took a walk. Today I had company, so didn't get a chance for a walk, but plan on taking one tomorrow. I have been watching my diet. I am at the beginning stages of diabetes, so feel it is very important to get myself in better shape while I still have that opportunity. You know what I mean? I hope to learn a lot from all of you.
