Cool

Hi. The sun's out here with the pretty autumn light but it's a little chilly. Like it like this. I went off my program last weekend. Just needed to do it. Didn't gain but didn't lose, so I've set myself back a week. Oh, well. Found out the reality of eating doesn't live up to the fantasies and that I really want to say on the fast. So learned something.
Went to my doctor's yesterday. My A1c was 5.5! And that's without Actos or Glucorol. My blood pressure is lower without the drugs and my cholesterol is lower (still taking the Zocor though). So I'm doing the right thing. Only thing is, my morning sugars are up - sometimes as high as 160s. I'll confer with the endocrinologist next month. Well, weigh-in tonight and I have to fess up to the cheating.

HI everyone!
I just started my diet yesterday...I found out Sat (late) after getting my mail from being out of town, that I was prediabeties or borderline. I am 40 soon to be 41 on the 16th. I never imaged I be this fat...I am 238 pounds! I was 180 for about 15 years prior to this weight gain. I was on depression drugs and I ate alot, but I also found out I had a bad thyroid too! So I am on sythoid and also am taking singular for my asthma. I just never thought I have so many health problems. I use to smoke alot, about a pack a day 12 years or so ago...But food is much more addictive I think! AT least for me! With this new scare on my health adding to all the other problems, it was a real wake up call. I am doing the W Watchers diet, not attending meetings cause I can't afford it, but I am doing the counting points and I just found out what the ranges are. I feel very motivated to lose it and I am on several support boards too., nice to meet you all!

Hi Kimberlee. It's good that you are doing something about your pre-diabetes. You don't want to get diabetes. It's a real pain. You are going in the right direction. Although WW is a good choice, you might want to modify it somewhat, as the points system allows you food like pizza, etc. that isn't really good for diabetics. Instead of eating white bread, potatoes and white rice, substitute whole grain bread, brown rice and legumes (beans) in moderate proportions. Also, instead of drinking fruit juice, have the whole fruit instead. Juice loads up your system with sugar (fructose). Control your fats and red meat. Eat fish like sardines and salmon. Also very important is exercise. A comobination of exercise and diet will keep diabetes at bay. Good luck and keep posting.

Hi! I Am new here and I just started my diet yesterday. I am on the WW change of lifestyle program! I am going to my first meeting tomorrow nite! I just found out that I am prediabetic, so I want to lose what I can before it gets ugly...Many in my family are insulin dependent and a few died from it, so I want to be proactive here and get a good start on things! I currently weigh 230 pounds and my goal is to be 130 in ten months from now! Kimberlee

Thanks for the welcome! Yes...I have been eating whole grains and wheat, skim milk for bout ten years or so...the problem I had was with craving pepsi and cake and donuts and etc! Now that I can't have those anymore, I have a good feeling weight loss might work now!

I also have a bad thyroid that I take generic sythoid for and asthma which has me on singuliar. I had heard both don't help with weight gain! And I am turning 41 soon! Oh no! I do excercise every day now and I stay in the 26-28 point range on the WW plan!

My monthly visitor tacked on almost 8 pounds this month, which is now gone! SO i am now back to 230! WHew! And the scale was was two pounds off in my favor! So It does help to know that today, I am 230 and not 238! I look forward to getting to you all here.

Hey, how to get those little people at the bottom of your message?!

Hi everyone. Admittingly I did not read the previous posts on this board. There are just so many... that I would never get to the end of the board lol. But I do have to ask what diet plans you are all following if you don't mind. Last week I was diagnosed as a pre-diabetic from some blood work results. So since I seen this board on the list I thought I would jump in and just ask what you all do for your plans. Thanks in advance... and sorry for butting in.

Hi everyone welcome Tracy and Kimberlee..im rosey from alaska.. i just took a 4 day class for diebetics and i was told to count carbs ..read labels.. portion control and exercise.. so i might suggest that you take a diebetic nutrition class.. as even tho i thought i knew what i was suppoose to do after 5 yrs of being diebetic.. i found the class very helpful..most ins companys will pay for it..so now im back to counting carbs.. im allowed 2-3 servings per meal.. and one serving of carbs is 15 grms..its not so bad once you get used to it.. its the smaller portions i have trouble with..hope that helps some.. its freezing cold here today.. ill bet we have snow soon..brrrrrrrrrr ((((hugs)))) for all rosey

Welcome Tracy and Kimberlee! I'm Kim from Colorado. Rosey, we had our first storm Sun/Mon, but it's almost all melted now.
My sugars have been in pretty good control, my eating has been in pretty good control, but my darned weight is just STUCK. I am trying to fit in more exercise, but mornings are just too darned early (I get up at 4:45 already) and evenings I have been too tired. Walking at lunch is my best bet, as long as I don't have errands to run. I will keep trying to workout when I get home.
Only 39 days til the doc's appt. I don't think I can hit my goal. :-(

Hi, I am new here, actually I am new to posting on any type of site so please bear with me. I have been diabetic for over 2 years now and not really watching what I was doing. Now it is two years later, I am 20 lbs more than I was two years ago and am on all kinds of meds to try to get it in control. My real problem is getting started - how do I get it all back in control? Looking at WW, JC and doing it on my own - any ideas on how one finds the right program for them and the encouragement to go on?
