Hi gang . . . our snow is all melting away again . . . 8C (46F) today, and raining. Very, very ugly and messy. Unfortunately it will probably freeze up overnight and then we are supposed to get more snow tomorrow just to make sure the ice is nicely polished, but well hidden Times like this that I'm really glad I don't have to go anywhere in the early morning hours anymore. Retirement does have its benefits.

Had a minor melt-down today. Took a good friend out to lunch for her birthday. Did very well -- chicken with no skin and salad instead of potatoes -- but then I also polished off the 5 Lindor Truffles that came as part of the meal. Oh well, at this time of year I can rationalize just about anything; so here goes . . . Five truffles at 80 calories each were definitely better than the 10 Tim Bits at 70 calories each that I had a week and a half ago. Furthermore, since the truffles get most of their calories from fat and the doughnuts get most of their calories from sugar and flour; from the point of view of a diabetic, the truffles were almost a healthy food . . . So now that you've all bought into that and are patting me on the back for my great choices, let me tell you how much we Canadians enjoy lounging under the palm trees out beside the pool on Christmas Eve.

Well gang . . . think I'm going to go and play my new video before dinner. You'll probably think I'm crazy, but I bought myself a "Crazy Frog" video. Whenever I see one of those shorts on TV, I feel like dancing so I thought it might just turn out to be good exercise. At least at this time of year, the kid in the store figured the old-lady was probably buying it as a Christmas gift for some kid. And I certainly did not find it neccessary to divulge the truth.

Okay everybody . . . have a great moving and shaking kind of evening and just keep doing the best you can. It is a tough time of year, but if we can do the good stuff most of the time, the rewards will follow. Here's some to help us along the way . . . Lord knows I need it. See you soon.

Hi all!

Rosey, I tried your "pumpkin brownies" this morning!!! Yum, Yum, Yum! Who would ever think that pumpkin and peanut butter go so well together!

DH's work has their "redneck Christmas" party tonight, so I will be eating all sorts of strange things... Gotta be at work at 6am, so it's up bright and early for me!

Gotta go finish my work for the week!

Hugs,

Josian - so far I'm fighting high BGL on the injections, but I'm still glad to be off the pump. I just have to keep adjusting my Lantus at night to get it right eventually. I was taking 18u a year ago, but went up to 24u because of my weight gain over the past year. Tonight the Dr. told me to start taking 27u to control the highs. That seems like so much! But I'm doing it, of course. Dr. knows best (most of the time). BTW, it's funny how the pump info never addresses the "bedroom issues" of wearing the pump to bed. What the heck? That is a doozy!

Meowee - I agree, it's fun to read your post. For lunch I had a Cuban sandwich - delicious, but fattening. Then for supper, I had sweet salmon, a stuffed cabbage roll, a grape leaf, and sweet rice salad with a BIG gingerbread man for dessert. It was a lot of carbs and then I snacked on dried fruit - really bad for the BGL. Just so you don't feel alone in "blowing it" today. I did too. I seem to do that most days. I wish that I would get an attitude realignment AND SOON. The scale is ticking away.

Jeanne - Don't feel stupid! I don't know what Byetta is! Is it an injection? Because no matter what you're injecting, SHOTS ARE NO FUN. The pump is a cell phone-sized contraption that you wear 24/7 with a tube attached to your stomach that pumps insulin in to you once an hour and at meals.

Hey everyone! I got back from the studio this afternoon and hit the ground running. We had a concert at church tonight that I was in charge of. I was really mad...it was not well attended, and it was SO good! I spent way too much money on the snacks for it, and then no one was there to eat it. I am going to fuss at some of the leadership that never shows up for these events. It is disheartening.

My time at the studio was not as productive as I would have liked. We had a major explosion in the kiln, and I lost a few big pieces I had been planning on using for Christmas presents. I got some mugs I had an order for completed, and a utensil crock. That is all I did! Now I have to decide who I am going to give stuff to, and get it all shipped. Then I can start on my next goal...that is to make my own dishes.

My son started his job today...he is off in the Carolinas. He called me to tell me he stupidly locked the keys in the car and had to call a locksmith! Oy! He won't be home until Monday or Tuesday, and today (Saturday) is his birthday! He is happy to be working though...

I will do some replies tomorrow...just am too tired to keep typing!

Hi gang . . . just a quick little pop-in to wish everyone a great weekend . . . . . . I'm sure it will be a really busy one for almost all.

Pleased to report that I had no overindulgences yesterday and my calories for the first 3 days of my week have balanced out just fine although my BGL is still acting a bit like a toilet seat . . . not terribly high or terribly low just not as level as I like it to be.

Anyway . . . let's all just keep on doing the very best we can at this wonderful (but trying) time of year and we will succeed in keeping both the Fairy Fat Mother and the Blood Glucose Elf in their proper places. Keep things moving and shaking, gang. See you soon.

Woo hoo! I am seeing new numbers on the scale again! down 2 more pounds!

I food journal and it is definitely keeping me on track. I have surrounded myself with support (including you all). Nothing better than when a plan comes together!

Rosey, I am distressed that you are "down in the dumps!" I hate having an irratable stomach too. This is flu season, so I hope that is not the situation during this extra busy time of year. Smart to stay off the ice, even in Alaska, ice and cars do not mix.

Meowee, Yea and congrats on the willpower to defeat over indulging!

Monet, wow! that is awful about the explosion, sorry to hear it. I have very limited experience with kilns and have heard of this happening. Heartbreaking sometimes. And about your church leadership..."you can lead a horse to water...". Unfortunate about the turnout, but look at the positives and learn from the negatives...let it go. Yea for your son! I have a special place in my heart for photographers.

Misa, I hope your BGLs get in control with your pump soon.

Josian, you didn't save me a pumpkin brownie!

Jeanne, I hope your weekend was wonderful! Thanks for sending that smile to remind me to smile during this hectic time!

Our birthday/christmas party at work turned out really nice,,was a packed house,,,lots of good food and friends,,,and really made me feel blessed,,I know some people think that a bar is evil or what ever but our little bar is really a meeting place for lots of different kind of folks,,we have ranchers,,hippies,,rich and poor,,all are excepted,,,and because it is such a small place we all know each other well,,,I recieved some heart felt cards and homemade potery,,and lots and lots of hugs

Cool

Hi, all. You are all so busy and I'm sitting here surfing the web because I have nothing to do at work. Sigh. Have too much time to think about my problems and think about what I want to eat for lunch. I've done all my Christmas shopping but went shopping yesterday anyway. Bought lots of books! Had a credit and multiple coupons for Borders. Had to get out of my apartment anyway because the greedy landlord continues the remodeling work on the empty apartments through the weekend. Won't be surprised if they're still at it on Christmas Eve.
Rosey - I wish I could help you feel better. Stress does create havoc with blood sugar and the digestive system. Most of this year I've either been too stressed to eat or eat too much from stress (I've got the 20 new lbs to prove it). I do hope things settle down for you.
Monet - That's really too bad about the kiln explosion. All that work gone to naught. And the no-shows at church. I hope you give them a piece of your mind.
Hope everyone has a good week.

Hi there gang . . . wow oh wow . . . I really do not know what happens sometimes. The days just seem to be rushing along and suddenly I seem to have missed some. Don't ask me for anything specific I've been doing but I have been really busy. Things have been so hectic and out of the ordinary that I've been forgetting some of my med doses and that is never a good thing. Seem to be holding my own so far, but must get more organized. I have to have that 10 AM Insulin or I'm out of whack for the rest of the day.

You know, I've been in danger of becoming very complacent lately. The diabetes control had been doing so well and the weight-loss efforts have been moving along at the usual 'tortoise-like' rate that I've come to accept as my 'normal' and I tend to start thinking . . . " Hey, I've got this stuff figured out so I can afford to relax a bit once in a while " Well, maybe that is true but the difficult part (especially at this time of year) is to make sure it is only "a bit" and only "once in a while". Oh well, we just have to keep on doing our best as we move down this twisted and bumpy road to better health and fitness and sometimes our best can tend to become a little 'variable'.

So . . . let's hang in there gang. Together we can do this stuff. Here's a double dose of to keep us all heading in the great downward direction. Keep it moving and shaking and much love to everybody. See you all again really soon.
