I had just heard on tv or maybe read in a magazine this week how that cinnamon was suppose to help lower blood sugar and I thought wow I didn't realize that. I wonder how easy it is to purchase the better one online...hmmmmm

pattygirl63 11-12-2017 10:19 PM

Loserbug You did great at the buffet. I have to admit I would find it difficult passing up the queso and chips. I don't eat them much any more since DH doesn't like Mexican food, so when I have a chance to eat them, they become my weakness.

I made it today with a 100% CAD day. My calories were less than 1200 and healthy. Loserbug, I try to have fish 2x a week. So we had cod fish for lunch. I sauteed zucchini/yellow squash with chopped onion, pepper and celery blend by PicSweet. I had my salad and finished the meal with a fruit cup I made and topped with SF Cool whip.

I had heard that boiled eggs help you lose weight. I don't know bout that, but when I checked my bs before our main meal, it was 100. I've never seen a 100 bs reading even when I was doing Atkins. I am very impressed.

I am pleased to have had a really good OP day.

Wannabehealthy 11-13-2017 08:18 AM

This morning I have to go to the Sleep Center to pick up my new Cpap. I hope it doesn't hum like the old one. My cold symptoms are bothering me and I don't want to go but I have to. And while we're out, DH will want to go somewhere to eat and to Goodwill. He thinks my cold isn't too bad, but even so, it's miserable to have my nose running so much. It gets stuffed up during the night and I have to irrigate it with saline in the morning so I can breathe, then it starts to running. Just enough to be uncomfortable.

Trish, I want to know what you mean when you say to drink your coffee withing 15 min. Do you mean 15 min from when you get up, or to finish the cup 15 min after you start. What is the reason for that?

Last night when I went to bed my blood sugar was up. I won't say how high, or what caused it, but I took Glimiperide, which really scares me at night. I tested throughout the night when I got up from time to time and it went down. At 6 AM it was down to 104. I did not panic and eat something this time, but when I got up at 7 it was 133. So the DP got me.

I did good on my DD yesterday until evening when I snacked. Thus the need for meds.

Loserbug, you did good at the buffet. I do not do as well. When we go there, I know I'm going to have a big meal. I resist starchy carbs and don't like sweets, but I eat prime rib, steak, pork chops. They used to have salmon and peel and eat shrimp, but not anymore. I don't like fried shrimp. They usually have some type of baked fish, too. And I eat vegetables. I usually try not to eat all day until the buffet because I know it will be high calorie. It's my treat.

I love salmon and like to order it out and also grill it at home. DH doesn't like it as much, so I will cook it for myself and a steak for him. And we order fried fish sometimes.

I sell on Craigslist but not a lot. I have a lot of things I would like to get rid of but DH isn't crazy about strangers coming to our house. We have sold some exercise equipment and some car rims. A toddler bed after my grandson got too big. We have Freecycle in our area but I don't like that because people say they are coming and then don't come. And I don't like them coming when it's dark. DH loves to shop at Goodwill, so our house is ending up like Hoarders. He can't pass up a good deal, even if it's something we don't need. I have every cooking appliance and utensil known to man and no room to store them. I had a Pizzelle baker, and wanted a second one so I could have 2 cooking at the same time. Well, I ended up with 4 of them, all used from Goodwill. I don't know if I will be able to watch all four at the same time, but DH might have to help me. I will only make those around Christmas, as my family likes them. They are so slow to make doing them with 1 machine, that only makes 2 cookies at a time. Goodwill has me so spoiled with their low prices that I hate to buy anything new.

So now I have to get ready to leave. I will probably be back later.

pattygirl63 11-13-2017 10:31 AM

Carol Sue I don't know why we are told to drink the coffee within 15 minutes from the time you start drinking the coffee. I must have read that online or in another one of their books. It isn't in the original book. When I looked for in the Original book I have, I noticed that I'm supposed to only have one c of coffee a day with 2 Tbls of milk, cream or half n half. However, I only use 1/2 Tbls of half n half in each cup so I am counting that as ok. I usually have 1 to 3 c each morning and that would add up to only 1.5 Tbls. for the day.

Sorry you aren't feeling well and have to go out. Prayers coming your way. Your DH sounds like my DBIL. My DS got one of those big trash bins delivered for them to clean out during his vacation. She did a lot of cleaning out, but he didn't do a lot. Their DD got very upset with them both as she and her DH had gone to help them clean things out. She is the niece who took over the planning of our Thanksgiving and organized everything. They hardly spoke for days and it was strained when they did. Thankfully they are fine now, but as my DS says it comes down to where you either accept them as they are or raise **** all the time. My DH is just as bad but thankfully not quite as bad as BIL. BIL has their garage full and 2 or 3 sheds full too besides the house. I laughed and said if I ever won the lottery and would buy a place out in the country and build my DS and me new houses and then have a big warehouse on it for DBIL and DH to hoard all their stuff. At least I can get my car in my garage although the small 3 garage is full. DS can't get her car in hers at all. We must love them, because we put up with them. LOL

Busy day. Breakfast with DD and DS. DH has an eye appointment with eye doctor because of the problem he had a little over a week ago. He says it still hurts sometime. He doesn't know if it is an allergy that causes it or what because it doesn't hurt all the time. We have to go to Walmart and Sam's today. I've got plan for a CM breakfast at Whataburger with finger salad bag in my purse. Not sure what our plan will be for RM.

My FBS is high, but not sure why. However, I did have that 100 yesterday before dinner. From what I've heard that is good. I probably should give up testing in the morning like Dr. told me to do. I could just check each day before Dinner. Hard to break old habits.

Catch y'all later.

I'll be back with y'all later.

Wannabehealthy 11-13-2017 12:12 PM

Trish, I would continue to test in the AM but not let it bother you as long as it's lower during the day and your A1c is good. We don't seem to have much control over AM readings.

I got my new CPap and it's a nice one. Fully automatic, it adjusts itself to your needs, and the hose is heated and adjusts according to the temperature in your house. It's not comfortable when the air blowing into your nose is cold. My old one had a heating chamber but the hose was not heated or insulated. This one is a Cadillac and my old one is a Ford Pinto. LOL

We stopped at Goodwill and I got a walker. We have one that was his mother's but it's just a basic one. I told him if I ever need one I want one with a seat and storage under the seat. I've been watching for one at Goodwill and it was there today. Like new, barely used, $15. I guess it's foolish to buy it when you don't need it but if I do I won't have to pay $100+ for the one I want, and if I never need it, it's here for whoever wants it. It folds up, out of the way.

We only have a 1 car garage. DH has his tools in it, very organized and there has always been room for the car. Let's not talk about the basement, though. It's packed full. You probably don't have basements in TX. We do not have a shed. The lawnmower and riding lawnmower fit under the workbench in the garage, and the showblower fits under the cellar steps. I guess you don't need a snowblower. LOL

I think it's funny how different eating plans have such rules as when to drink your coffee, etc. Also, many have rules about artificial sweeteners. DR Johnson, in the ADF book says that he does not believe there is any proof that artificial sweeteners hinder weight loss. Diet soda helped me years ago, but now they have changed the sweeteners they use and they could be a hindrance to my loss. I used to drink Diet soda when I got hungry and it would stop the hunger, but now I drink it with meals so I don't notice it helping or hurting. I don't drink as much as I used to but that's because they charge so much for it in restaurants and it's mostly ice. Two sips and it's gone.

pattygirl63 11-13-2017 03:26 PM

Boy this day changed on me. DS called as I was walking out the door and asked where I was. I told her I was walking out the door to head to Whataburger. She said "Daddy has cut his thumb and it won't stop bleeding, I'm headed that way". So I headed that way praying it wouldn't be too serious. As you know I am the one who does all the nurse type stuff for him. I knew being on the Xarelto that it was the reason he was having difficulty.

I got it to slow down and wrapped it with gauze etc, but it was still bleeding not profusely but wasn't stopping. I called CHF and asked the nurse about it. I told her that it wouldn't be so serious if it weren't for the Xarelto and I asked her about the stuff that you put on it to stop the bleeding and seal it. After getting the info, I went to Drug Emporium to get the materials I needed. When I still couldn't get it to stop, I called his primary doctor's office. In the meantime, DS continued to apply pressure on it.

Dr. office gave me an appointment at 2:30 with another doctor. While waiting to talk to insurance to see where I could take him for Express help without going to ER. Somehow while waiting for insurance dept to answer, we got cut off. Then DS said the bleeding had almost stopped. So I put 3 butterfly stitches on it and wrapped it again. It was still seeping when I left so we decided that DS would take him to the doctor since I had to come home and get DH to go for his eye doctor's appointment.

I think the bleeding may have stopped by now, but I wanted the doctor to see him. For one thing, his hand and lower arm felt kind of cold to me. It may not mean anything, but he had been bleeding for almost 2 hrs when we got there and I know it was another hour before we got it to stop. I tell you that man does keep us on our toes.

I left and went to Walmart to pick up our meds and a few groceries, but wasted my time because their cash registers were down. The lady said they were down 3 and 1/2 hrs last time. So now I'm home waiting to leave to go for DH eye appointment. Will still have to go to Sam's club and Walmart when we are through at the doctor's office.

I still haven't eat. I was going to get jerky sticks at Drug Emporium but couldn't remember where they were and didn't have time to look and of course with Walmart down, I couldn't get them there. Now I'm just considering making this a OM day. I keep the glucose tablets in my purse for DH, but I will put a cheese stick in my purse just in case I need it. Eating wise, this pill just might become better than I expected.

pattygirl63 11-13-2017 03:37 PM

Carol Sue I decided to close the other post and make a new one. I'm thinking I lose them when I write them so long.

I'm glad you got your new CPAP. I hope you will get a lot of good rest etc from it. I'm also glad you got the walker especially the one you got. That is what I have if I ever need it. Of course, it is packed somewhere and we would have to find it. LOL

Don't be afraid to use it. Just because you use it doesn't mean you will have to use it all the time and consistantly. It makes it easier for the knees to heal etc. I'm sure it would be good to use it when your foot is giving you trouble even or especially around the house. Then when it is better and you don't need the walker, Don't use it.

DH brought his workbenches he built when we moved. Since it has gotten cooler here, he as been working on organizing his things out there. I noticed this morning when I left to go to Daddy's that he has the workbenches looking reallice. He is an organizer. I used to be and have been trying to figure out how I can get things organized to make our house more of a home.

Did I tell you that he seems to be working on his health better to. That makes me want to work harder on myself.

loserbug 11-13-2017 07:12 PM

Wow do I have stuff to say LOL!

I'm sorry your feeling under the weather Carol. It sounds like you have the cpap my dh has. I think his is called the dream machine and he says the hose is heated. His old one went out and was replaced with this one a few months ago and he really likes it. He's been using a cpap for maybe 12 yrs and cannot sleep without it. And I'm used to the slight hum and almost can't sleep without it either, haa haa

About your blood sugar, trust me I know nothing! So, take what I say with a grain of salt. But, I do receive some diabetes magazines....Diabetes Living and Diabetes Self Management (if your interested let me know, I get them free....ya know the coupon queen) and just this month one of them was talking about when your sick it messes with your blood sugar.

Trish, my goodness my goodness...I am a magnet for stuff to happen and your day sounds like me on a regular basis. Seems always something. Really weird coincidence is that I went to CVS to get prescriptions today and their computers were down and I couldn't get mine either. Weird huh? I hope all is well with your patient now.

I also like Goodwill, but I don't have one on the beaten path and as I'm sure you know its hard to run in once every few months and find good deals...you gotta be a regular. And I try to follow the coupon thing as best I can for things and then converting my funds from stuff I don't need/want to things I do. I actually rarely have people meet for a sale at my home. Just because people are idiots. LOL. I will meet at Walmart that isn't a few blocks away or something like that. Usually dh is along but sometimes not. Only had a few really big items that have had to be picked up at my house. I sold a giant rock once, lol. I actually made a sale today during my lunch hour, met at Wendys I was picking up lunch for coworker decided to get a salad for myself got the Mediterranian one...never tried it. YUCK. threw at least 1/2 in the trash, so was happier with peanut butter / celery at lunch, thankfully had a little something in fridge at work.

I don't think its werid to buy something super cheap you know you'll need in the future....makes sense to me. Now, lol...me now that I have the one I wanted for $15 nice new and ready to go I'd list the other one I didn't want for $15 and sell it on craigslist :) That's the way I roll....haa haa

Ya'll are gonna be kicking off this board :)

Oh...I remember I was going to say Carol...again, please don't misunderstand and think I'm bossy. I'm trying to help. Please say so if you already know things I say, don't want to seem like I'm a know it all or talking down to anyone, just want to help someone if I can. So, that being said. Like I said above my dh has had the cpap for at least 12 yrs until about 3 yrs ago...he had gone twice for sleep studies they sent to sleep dr sleep dr ordered machine/supplies and then the supply people came out or sent out the stuff. Of course, they say to change out hoses, filters, etc but its quite expensive if you do it at the rate they say. Even if you wait til something breaks to buy its not cheap. So, he got a new sleep dr a new sleep study as I say about 3 yrs ago and what does the dr say, heres your machine and heres your supplies. all for our specialist copay of $50....???? What??? They said, if you get it at same appt billed by same dr it all falls under one copay? no way. we've made payment paying for those machines...bought supplies. so I call and YESSSSS it was true. So, for three years he goes for his specialist visit and he gets supplies, and like this year we've met out of pocket, so he went to see the dr and collect supplies with no copay. We have saved GOBS of money with this that we never knew about. Crazy huh? Hopefully you already know this, but incase you didn't ask your insurance. One time in the last 3 yrs new staff person didn't have supplies in stock so dh went the next week to pick up and she used that date and they charged us I went crazy to dr office and they corrected date and insurance paid. I'm crossing my fingers that you've not thrown away tons of money like we did for probably 9 yrs. I mean it was thousands we lost.

My blood sugar was 101 this am, I was in a rush had some multi grain cheerios with almond milk, had the horrible salad...half I guess....celery/peanut butter, now busy typing and poor dh is working on dinner....having fish, some left over coleslaw I made from my new favorite cookbook (that I got with money from taking my free magazines to half price books to sell after me my coworker my boss my coworkers mom read them) and peas. Havent checked yet will shortly.

Talking about not liking fried shrimp, I love fried shrimp but honestly I love almost anything. I love food, love to try new things.... we drove past a place once said Persian food dh said lets go, lol. normally at the buffet I would have gotten some mashed potatoes and some fried shrimp, some pasta type salad for sure some bread and a few desserts at the minimum. bare minimum probably would have gotten a couple plate loads.

Trish since you eat fish so often how to you change it up? I'm doing some looking at online recipes. Great job on hitting your goal cals 100% and following your plan so well...that's awesome.

Wannabehealthy 11-13-2017 09:29 PM

Loserbug, my Cpap supplies are covered by my insurance. They used to be covered 100% but now they are covered 80%. I get the mask, hoses and filters every 3 months and the water chamber every 6 months. I have heard of the Dream Machine. That's not mine, but I forget the name of mine. They said it is made for women, that their breathing patterns are different from men's. It has pretty flowers on it, or something. LOL Not manly at all. When they were showing me how to use it there was absolutely no sound whatsoever, so I'm hoping it's completely silent.

I used to love all food and would try anything. Now I have crossed so many foods off my list and eat a limited diet. I no longer eat things that are just OK. They have to taste great or they get crossed off the list.

Trish, I sure hope you Dad is ok. I think I would go right to the ER, but you know a little about this and know what to do. Actually, we belong to our local ambulance service by paying a $35 annual fee. If you join up, they will come to your home and treat you in an emergency, so calling them would be an option, too. And then if you still need to go to the hospital, they will take you. I actually forgot about their emergency home service until hearing your story.

DH has a pegboard hanging on the garage wall. Every tool he owns had it's place. He can walk into the garage and tell you what his son or son-in-law used and didn't put back. In the house it's different. He hates to see things sitting out, so he will put them away, but he doesn't put them where they belong and doesn't remember where he put them.

One night I was planning on baking the next day, so I got out all my supplies and sat them on the kitchen counter before I went to bed. The next morning I got up and he had put everything away. Bless his heart, if he would only do the things that NEED DONE. LOL

You're welcome, Arabella.

Wannabehealthy 11-14-2017 09:48 AM

My Cpap worked very well last night. It was so quiet. Not a sound from the machine. Big difference from my old one. I should have done this long ago. Also, it lights up when you turn it on, but then all the lights gradually go out. My old one had lights that stayed on constantly. I had a little stuffed animal that I set on top of it to cover the lights, but they still lit up the room a bit. Last night it was complete darkness. That was great! Now the little stuffed animal has no job. LOL It's a Beanie Baby pig. My DIl bought it for me as I love pigs.

pattygirl63 11-14-2017 12:59 PM

Arabella4535:welcome3: Sorry for the delayed welcome. I thought I had welcomed you but that must have been on my post that went out into cyberspace. We are glad to have you here and hope you will jump in the discussions and let us know more about yourself.

Carol Sue I'm glad you got the new CPAP and machine. Sounds a very good upgrade. Daddy is at the ENT to get something to help him since he isn't candidate for the CPAP. I hope they can help him.

Yesterday turned into such a long day that I ended up with a 26 hr fast. I didn't ever get hungry, but by the time we ate we got a McD's hamburgers. I ended up eating way too fast and too many carbs for one meal. While the meal was a legal Carbohydrate Addict's Diet Reward Meal, but I was just so exhausted that I didn't really choose wisely. My bs reading was 102 before I ate yesterday. My FBS was still higher than what I want, but was down 10 pts from yesterday. The nice thing is that my weight was down 1.6 lbs this morning. I'm sure that is from walking 3 stores and the 26 hr fast.

Although that is a good weight drop after fasting so long, I don't plan to do another fast that long any time soon. Of course, I didn't plan to do that one. It just worked out that way as it was out of my control. Waiting to eat was better than any other choices I could have made. I think my 19 to 20 hr fast each day will work nicely for me. I have no desire to go longer because the way it made me feel.

Daddy saw a different doctor. The cut thumb had stopped bleeding by the time they saw the doctor. They did give him a tetnus shot and cleaned and bandaged the wound. They found out that #1 his BP meter is broke and Daddy's blood pressure was not high and #2 he had gained almost 20 lbs since last doctor's appointment. They ordered him different type of bp meter. Daddy isn't happy with that one and doesn't believe them. Go figure. You would think that he would be glad. I think he is unhappy because he can't wear that one all the time. LOL

DS text me the info about his weight while I was at eye doctor's appoint with DH. As soon as we left the doctor's office, I called CHF. I love those nurses. She told me she wanted him to take 2 Lasix and crush them and take them and to call her today at 9:30 as they were hoping to get him in today, but they didn't have an opening. She said sometimes that get a cancellation and he could have that place. Today he had lost 7 lbs and can see his veins.

She told me to continue the Lasix 1 a day. I'm concerned about the fluid in his belly. She told me to have him crush the Lasix each day and that should lower the fluid in the belly. I didn't know that Lasix wouldn't work on the belly fluid if it isn't crushed. As soon as they get a cancellation, she will work him in unless he gets worse.

We will go over this afternoon and do his meds and DH will check his finger and bandage it so it won't fall off. The one the doctor put on keeps coming off. Hopefully within a few days it will begin to close enough he can just put a band aid on it.

BBL

Howdy!

Sounds like you have an awesome cpap Carol. I like the idea of flowers and the light thing too. Such simple things can be big things, huh. I like that ambulance service thing you have, never called an ambulance but I can see that would be totally worth a small fee. i'll have to check and see if there is something similar in my area.

Welcome again Arabella hope to you seen around often! I think the more the merrier!

Trish, good news on your dads bp, and good news again that it got found out that the machine was broken so they can fix it, who know how long before they would have realized.

Today was good bsugar wise. I had like 102 in am, boring whole grain cheerios/almond milk breakfast. I need to plan some variety, get caught in a rush all the time. had a grilled salad at lunch...again was in a rush and coworker wanted me to go to chick fil a checked stats on salad, was shocked like 22 sugar on half a grilled chicken salad...before dressing...she got thqt a full one. i got a different one...way lower stats...then by the time i was walking in door at 415/430 i was starting to shake and feel bad check bsugar was 98 which i know is good just not used to it i guess.....8 big shrimps w/ left over slaw w/ left over peas for dinner working now on tomorrow, don't want to be caught like this again....not knowing what to cook and in a rush. i was determined to stay on track, but trust me it wasn't pretty i was crabby and just crazy hungry. LOL. not like a bug but a bear, might have to change my name to loserbear :) Not sure how you guys are able to handle these fasts.

Really enjoying the chatter with ya'll. Thanks so much for welcoming me in with such friendliness.

I think my son has heard my need to walk more andto also know exactly how much i'm walking, so i think some type of device will be under the tree for me! Yippee, hopefully its purple. My favorite color.

Wannabehealthy 11-14-2017 07:25 PM

Trish, you have been through such an ordeal. I hope they get your Dad all straightened out. Did they not want him to gain weight, or was it caused by fluid? I have Lasix in case I need it but I hate taking it. I go to the bathroom too often as it is. I never knew about crushing it. Maybe I will try that next time. I don't know if I have fluid in my belly. The cardiologist gave them to me because I was getting puffy ankles occasionally. The puffiness goes down if I elevate my feet.

I didn't eat a lot today but I ate the wrong foods. DH wanted Wendy hamburgers. I didn't want anything, but I got a small frosty. I know they aren't good for me, but it was a snap decision. It would be much better if he went in and got his food. Then I ate half of one of his burgers when we got home. That was better than eating a whole one. I still feel full. I need a good long fast myself to give my digestive system a rest.

My step daughter texted me and asked who was having Thanksgiving. I told her I thought she was doing it. LOL That would be a laugh. She would have no clue!! So they are coming here and I invited DH's brother and wife. The other brother who is single won't come if this brother is here. They were here together previously and there were no issues. They just don't talk, but there are enough other people to talk to.

I got my bedroom cleaned today. Tomorrow I will clean out my china closet. I only use those dishes on Holidays so I take them all out and wash them before Thanksgiving. One time I didn't do that, and my DIL too a glass from there and it had mold in the bottom. Yuk! I was so embarassed. I won't let that happen again. I think the glass wasn't dried properly before it was put away.
