My check didn't come again today. I told you they said I have to wait until 11/13 before they will stop payment and issue a new check, provided it has not been cashed. I don't know what they do if it has been cashed. I'm trying not to worry about it because there's nothing I can do but wait and hope it comes. We both get SS plus DH gets a pension check too, and we have some put away, so there's no financial burden, but it's my money and I want it. LOL I requested direct deposit a couple years ago but never got the forms, so they said they will send them again. Our other payments are direct deposit.

I signed up for a challenge on another forum, to lose 5 lbs by Thanksgiving. And ever since then, I can't stop eating. LOL That's the way it works for me when I join a challenge, and I don't know why. It seems to stress me out. I should know better. Hopefully I will do better tomorrow. Today I was reading the JUDDD book. Reading that really gets me psyched up wanting to do it. The way it's explained in the book it sounds so healthy. It's just really hard for me to limit my calories some days. I think I will do DD as often as I can and not worry if I'm not perfect. This one woman has been doing it for 5 years. She is down in the 120s now, but really struggles to stay there. I know I will never go that low and won't even consider it. She's young..... 40ish.

I have fallen off the wagon and am being dragged under the wheels. I need someone to give me a good smack!!!

pattygirl63 11-05-2017 12:15 PM

Carol Sue  I'm so sorry you are having problems. I suspect you are stressed from the issue with your check. Just be good to yourself and do what you can. It will get better.

I decided to finish reading Delay, Don't Deny. I read her story last night and this morning I have read about the books she recommends reading. These are IF books she read along her journey to losing weight and maintaining her weight with IF. I am so impressed that I bought her other book on kindle and I'm in the process of starting it.

She suggests keeping a journal of how different foods make you feel. While Dr. Whitaker allows coffee with sweeteners (either Stevia or Splenda), she says that Dr. Fung in his book The Obeseity Code says it causes an insulin release and that until you get the inulin hormone under control you won't lose weight. I remember in the book she said that she lost weight down to a certain plateau she couldn't break until she gave up the sweetener. I've noticed that when I drink my coffee with half and half and Splenda that it lowers my bs reading. However, this morning thinking about how it makes me feel, I noticed that it actually makes me feel hungry. I wanted to eat breakfast. I didn't eat yet because I want to eat within my specified 5 hr window.

I decided to get a notebook and start writing down how I feel after I eat or drink something. I wrote down my experience today and decided tomorrow I will drink it black and see how it affects the bs reading. Perhaps and hopefully, it is the coffee and not the sweetener and half and half that lowers it.

She also shared what a Dr. Bret Herring wrote in his book titled The Power of Appetite Correction. Apparently when we fast, we will be able to find the right way of fasting for us individually because suddenly something will click and we will recognize it because fasting will no longer be a struggle. We will automatically know when we are hungry to eat and we will automatically know when we need to stop eating. As she says, this is really our goal.

For her a 5 hr window could mean just that a 5 hr window. She being a school teacher starts her window when she gets home around 4 "if she is hungry" she has a snack or just tastes the food as she cooks dinner which is her OMAD. She eats what she wants stressing this is not an All you can eat 5 hr window. Some times her 5 hr window is 4 hrs and sometimes it is 6 hrs, but most of the time it is 5. It all depends on how hungry she is.

I am beginning to see and understand why a 5 hr window works for me and I think I can learn what foods works for me and what doesn't so that I can do my 19 to 20 hr fast each day. I don't like to snack during my 5 hr fast and breakfast at 11ish and dinner around 3 or 5 works very well for me. Now the hunger has past from the sweetened coffee, but if I have to drink unsweetened drinks during my fasts I will have to struggle through it just as she did. I figure if others can do it, then I can too. I am seeing so many people on the FB group that is having success. I have to believe I can too.

Another thing she says in the second book that impressed me is what she has begun to notice about her body that is happening through fasting... the loose skin on her arms etc are going away. This woman though probably active does not exercise per se. She says she knows her belly will never be flat, she looks younger and she looks great. Her highest weight was 210, she is probably 50 yrs old or close to 50 and she doesn't weigh any more, but figures her approximate weight to be in the upper 120s.

She doesn't follow CAD, but Rachel's story in the original book inspired her to do OMAD.

I need to get busy. It is time to eat breakfast and I want to stay on schedule. I also want to read some more in her book while DH is still asleep. I love how hubby's can sit and say nothing for hours and when you get ready to read something important they want to talk. LOL Still I'm glad to have him here.

Time with my DGS and his family was wonderful. We had a great time and I stayed with my plan. I had figured it all on MFP and even shared with CAD group what I was going to eat. I ate only a few bites of the Cactus Bloom with just a dab of the sauce. Ordered the Dallas Filet instead of the ribs I wanted along with green beans and ate half the mushrooms and sent the rest home with the kids. I even enjoyed 1 roll with a little of the butter and was very satisfied. DH and I decided that next time we are going to do get the prime rib (much smaller than what the kids got) and half it like they did. I didn't think I would like it, but DGS gave me a bite of it and it was delicious. I think Texas Roadhouse might become our favorite steakhouse.

I got back home and a lady on my FB CAD group had written "Don't forget to have the rolls with the cinnamon butter". LOL. I wrote her and told her I actually ate just 1. :) Weighed this morning weight was almost a lb lower and FBS was 6 pts less than yesterday. I've got my plan and I am committing to it.

Have a blessed Sunday.

pattygirl63 11-05-2017 01:05 PM

Checked blood sugar before breakfast. Around 8:30, FBS was 160. After 1 c of coffee with 1/2 T half and half and 1 Splenda packet bs reading was 142. I don't think it hurts my bs so as long as it doesn't effect it and weight loss, I will keep it. If it ever becomes a problem, I will change it.

Even she says you One Size does Not fit All. She never Dr. Whitaker, however she did mention another IF doctor who allows his patients to use the sweeteners. She eats sugar during her 5 hr window. So I will stick with what works for me.

Wannabehealthy 11-05-2017 01:14 PM

Trish, I really don't think it's the check that is stressing me out. It's some of the things DH is doing. LOL Like you, I love him and I'm glad he's here, but there are times.....

I figure I will get the check sooner or later, one way or another. I don't think I would be penalized if it fell into the wrong hands and someone else cashed it.

I know that some people say that the artificial sweetener can keep you from losing but I don't see it that way for me. It's hard to say, since I'm NOT losing, but the only artificial sweetener I have on a regular basis is my sugar free coffee creamer. I do not get hungry after I drink it. Not at all. In fact, I might have a hunger pang when I first get up and it's gone after I have coffee. I have cut back to 1 cup with creamer and one without. For years I drank my coffee black, and never put sugar in it. Somehow once I tried this french vanilla creamer I got hooked on it. I buy it at Aldi's and the last time I was there I bought 3 jars. When I get down to the last jar I am going to try to go back to black coffee and see if it helps, but honestly, it never helped in the past. Made no difference. In fact, I have been this weight since 2008. Nothing that I have changed over the years has made any difference. I have come to the conclusion that I am just eating more food than my body needs and until I cut that back I am not going to lose. All the little tricks other people use don't work for me.

The problem with having an eating window is that many people consider it an all you can eat window. They stuff themselves because they know their fasting window begins. People hear the word "fasting" and they panic, wondering how long it will be until they can eat again.

I tried out a new recipe today for zucchini casserole. I made a 1/3 recipe just to try it out, to see if I want to use it as a Holiday side dish, and it's a winner! It's similar to the old zucchini casserole that was making the circuit years back, but this one uses Feta cheese instead of Parmesan, and it give it a whole different taste. I need to find a new hobby of some kind so my life doesn't evolve around food. LOL

Wannabehealthy 11-05-2017 06:22 PM

I'm still battling this cold. It's not a real bad cold. I get a slightly elevated temperature and just feel icky. I took some Alka Seltzer Plus and went in to lie down. Now I got up and I'm not hungry. At least I'm not hungry for real food. So I'm eating some potato chips and pretzels. I think my body is craving the salt. DH wanted to go out for dinner, and he's acting like I'm punishing him by being sick. But it's soooo different when he doesn't feel good. LOL

loserbug 11-05-2017 09:02 PM

Hello. I signed up here forever ago, but honestly I'm not that tech savy and just couldn't figure it out. Instead opted for a live chat, well eventually it was closed down. I really missed the group and totally fell off the wagon without the support...among other reasons. So, decided to log in here again and try to figure out. LOL, I will be looking around trying to learn how to use the site and see posts/reply etc. I am a diabetic. So, this looked like a good place to start. Hope to contribute and be a regular :)

pattygirl63 11-05-2017 09:20 PM

Loserbug :wel3fc: Please feel free to share your story with us. We look forward to getting to know you.

Carol Sue, Sorry that cold is still hanging on. Hope you feel better soon. Sorry your DH isn't more understanding. I'm wanting something too. I did have a cheese stick but trying not to give in to eating anything else. Hope I make it.

loserbug 11-05-2017 09:47 PM

Me :)

Thanks for the welcome. LOL, Gotta say I almost couldn't find my own message. But, I did find it eventually, so maybe there is hope I'll figure this out.

I'm 50, I weigh 197lbs, Diabetes II have been up and down, 5ft, female. I've only really tried to lose a few times in my life. One of the first times I'd signed up for a free live chat...was a regular and loved it, loved the sharing of ideas, recipes, goals, challenges, etc. I can't remember the name of that site, but it really helped me. And I lost, at that time I was 244lbs But the site closed. Eventually I tried again and while looking around for a diet checked our Nutri Systems, free chat, never did the program, couldn't afford it, did my own thing but again the group was awesome and I enjoyed the flow of ideas, suggestions, etc. At that time I was 215lbs and got down to 171lbs Eventually the chat was shut down. I have had Cancer and was unable to exercise during two surgeries, put some back on. Now, back surgery soon, but diabetes is not under control. So, really ramping up, was feeling so good at 171, but back at 198 and wow the difference. So, I really want to at least get back to that 171 felt so good. And of course, my dr wants the blood sugar down. I work part time, because I have many dr appts with various health issues... Got one adult kiddo and three adorable dogs.

Maybe your sorry you asked, LOL. I miss the jumping on live chat and saying HELP I'M HUNGRY and someone saying. No your not, brush your teeth or get some gum, LOL. Helping one another. I guess I will get used to the message board format. Eager to be part of a community working together again.

And a funny sideline. It had been so long since I was here I couldn't remember if it was 2 fat chicks or 3 fat chicks, well...lets just say I went to the wrong one and it's a porn site for fat fetish...LOL. Ah, isn't life a surprise each day?

So, that's me. Can't wait to learn about all of you!

pattygirl63 11-06-2017 12:19 AM

Getting ready to go to bed and I didn't do very well today. I think I'm going back to the 8 hr window and fast 16 hrs. Maybe I can finally get back to the 5 hrs window, but for some reason I just don't seem to be able to do it right now. It is better to go back to the 8:16 ratio than to allow myself to lose ground. I did have a good OMAD last week end and my have to just plan to do that a few days when I am not going any where. I get into trouble when I start playing around with things.

Hope you had a good day today Carol Sue.

Wannabehealthy 11-06-2017 07:37 AM

Hi Loserbug. Welcome to 3FatChicks. Although I understand the basics of chat rooms, how you instantly have someone there to talk to, I am more into message boards, where you can say what you want, and others can come at their own convenience and reply. Trish and I have been posting here for several years and there's one other member, Fatmad, who stops in about once a week or so. Otherwise, people come and go. It would really make me happy to have some others join in, so that we don't keep saying the same things over and over. LOL So I hope you stick around. I am retired and on the forum several times throughout the day. It's called I have no life, so to speak. LOL So I will be here to respond if you post.

Trish, I went to bed early yesterday and got a lot of sleep. I think that's the main thing I need to shake this cold. Lots of rest. I ended up not eating much, so I guess that's a good thing to get me back on track. I think not eating dinner is the secret to beating The Dawn Phenomenon. My blood sugar was lower when I got up than it was before bed. LOL And I really don't feel hungry. So I think that no matter what we have for dinner, I am going to try eating just a very small amount, and see how that works. One thing Dr Fung says about fasting is, if you really get hungry and feel you can't make it, EAT. It's no crime....just get back to it.

I'm waiting for my DIL to respond to me about Thanksgiving. I asked her if they had plans. My plans will depend on what they're doing. I really want to know how well I have to clean my house if everyone ends up coming here. LOL I will cook either way, but if it's just DH and I it will be just the basics, and a more relaxed day.

I think if you stick with the 8:16 and throw in a OMAD here and there you will be fine. You could also aim for a 5 hour eating window with the plans of having a small snack along the way, maybe a finger salad, if you feel you can't make it. No one says that every day has to be the same. This is why JUDDD goes back and forth from UD to DD. On the JUDDD forum, most stick to the alternate days, but some will have 2 UD on the weekends and then more DD during the week. It's what fits their lifestyle.

I am really loving this zucchini casserole I made yesterday. I think I'll go try to figure out the nutritional info for it. I think I could bake this in a muffin tin and freeze them for snacks, similar to what people do with the egg muffins. Making the whole casserole isn't good because I'm the only one eating it.

Wannabehealthy 11-06-2017 10:34 AM

I went into Fitday and created a new item for the Zucchini Egg Muffins. I entered all the ingredients I used then divided the totals by 4, because I think I would get 4 muffins from what I used. It comes out to 165 calories, 9gm fat, 10gm carb and 10gm protein. I have considered omitting or cutting back on the flour in order to make them a little lower carb. Some are using coconut flour, but I don't want to buy that just for theses. I am not interested in going zero carb. I also think I could use chopped broccoli instead of the zucchini for a change of flavor.

Wannabehealthy 11-06-2017 11:12 AM

I just posted the modified recipe up in the Recipe section. I was reading through the old recipes and there are some really good ones I want to try!

pattygirl63 11-06-2017 03:37 PM

Loserbug - Sounds like you have done good since you haven't returned to your high. You are on the right track at getting back down. As you correct your weight hopefully your blood sugar will follow. Good luck on your journey. I still haven't mastered a lot of things on the computer. Carol Sue is good at all these things; I'm not. I still haven't learned how to get a ticker on the bottom from the site she told me about. It just doesn't work for me.
And chats? I've been on them, but they move so fast that I can't keep up. This way of communication works best for me too.

Carol Sue I'm glad you put the recipe on our recipe sticker. I would like to try it too. I do like zucchini but haven't cooked it in a while. Our local store sales them already spiraled as well as some other fresh cuts. I started to get some the other day but couldn't decide which one I wanted. My blood sugar read good when I ate it in the past. I just don't want to get tired of it again.

I had the black coffee this morning and the reading still lowered before I left to go meet Daddy and DS for breakfast. It was down only 7 pts today where as it was down 18 pts yesterday, but then my reading was a lot sooner than it would have been if I had eaten at home. I have to check it 45 minutes before breakfast when I meet them for breakfast where as I take it just before I eat when eating at home. I will test it again tomorrow. It may not make that much difference in the reading. However, I'm wondering if drinking it black during fasting might make a difference in whether I lose weight and keep it off. Time will tell. It really didn't taste too bad, but it did upset my stomach. I did share my experience with the OMAD FB group to see what kind of feedback I get.

I don't guess I am actually doing CAD because I am doing low carb using the moderate low carb rather than very low carb CM's as they do. I think if I remember correctly there are others who have modified the plan like I have to fit their lifestyle and doctor's recommendations. The main thing is that I do like the 1 hr RM/more carby meal although DDD (Delay Don't Deny) OMAD group does not worry about the 1 hr limit. Some eat low carb and some do not. They just read or learn about the IF plan they want to follow or modify to their lifestyle and commit to it. I like that. Nothing is off limits, but I do notice they do seem to try to eat more healthy than not so healthy foods.

I am doing the journal she suggests doing of how I feel after eating certain foods. I am basically on the 8:16 IF plan knowing that if I don't need an 8 hr window, I can use less. That way the days I can do the 5 hr window... Great, but if I need the 8 hr window, that is good too. This will keep me from feeling like I am messing up and guilt/stress free.

I finally heard from my nephew and his wife. They will be coming for Thanksgiving too. They bring their food because he is Vegan and she is Vegetarian. His sister will cook for them too because she is semi-vegetarian.

loserbug 11-06-2017 05:14 PM

Me Again

Well, I managed to find my way back today! Thanks so much for the friendly greetings.

I am pretty happy, 2 of my blood sugar readings for today were 124, one 174, that is AWESOME for me. I've been known to be in the 400s. So, I really am plugging away at this.

Got a really cool diabetes cookbook this weekend, its recipes with only 4 ingredients. Which I think sounds great, so many recipes are just too detailed and so expensive picking up obscure ingredients. And although no kids at home I tend to keep myself running, so fast is good too!

One of our dogs, my husbands favorite chewed our carpet we found upon arriving home today. Sigh....

How much exercise do you gals do? At this point I'd backslid to household chores and dog walking only, need to get back into routine of more than that.

I do agree that its nice to come and go at each persons convenience as far as posts.

I would love if someone could explain how to get to the end...the most recent posts instead of scrolling through all these pages each time.

More soon
