Carol SueWhen my previous hubby was living, we got the lottery here in TX. I loved playing the scratch offs. I started out and each time I won a few dollars, I would put it right back into purchasing more. One time I won enough to pay a bill. One day I figured up how much money I was spending on those stupid tickets and realized that I had spent a whole lot more than I had ever won. LOL I stopped buying them, but it was really wasn't easy for me when I quit buying them.

I don't understand how the FBS works. Yesterday mine was 132 and today it was 158. I think as long as it is 120 or less before we eat out main meal that I really shouldn't worry about it. I should stop checking it each morning like my doctor told me to do, but I haven't been able to break the habit. I think I just need to know what is going on.

I have Dr. Bernstein's book. There used to be a thread on another lc site who followed his plan. He allows 30 carbs a day instead of Dr. Atkins' 20. I haven't been to that site in quite some time, but I did see it the last I was there.

That is neat about the coat you found. I hope you will like it. I have one on the way from Woman Within. I am hoping I get it before DH goes tot he hospital for eye surgery Wednesday because it gets cold in those rooms and I can wear it. I hate to have to wear my big coat, but I will if it doesn't show up. I wore long sleeves last time and it wasn't warm enough. We are in our cold weather here and high today is 47. I sit with my snuggies on when not busy. It will be cold when we go around 6am. A jacket would be so much easier.

Well, I'm frying chicken today. I use seltzer water for the wet part of my batter instead of milk or egg. That saves calories since seltzer water is 0 cals. I'll eat a salad with EVOO and ACV and steamed green beans.

I am eating 2 meals and a snack trying to eat it within 8 hrs. I had 1/2 serving oatmeal, 4 oz yogurt, 1/2 banana, 1 sl Canadian bacon and 1 egg with coffee for breakfast this morning. Oatmeal is so good on cold mornings. I never thought of eating an egg with oatmeal until I was in the hospital. Read about eating it with toast and oatmeal on WebMD.

Have a great Sunday.

Trish, I have a Dr Bernstein's book, but it's a different one from this one. This one is called Diabetes Solution. Is that the one you have? The other one is more geared toward type 1.

In this book, Dr Bernstein said he tries to have his patients keep them blood sugar between 85 and 90 ALL THE TIME. I have no clue how he does that. I need to read further.

I have heard that if you eat your protein (the egg) before you eat the carb (the oatmeal) the carbs are absorbed more slowly. Who knows what's true or not.

When I met DH, PA didn't have the lottery yet, but he played numbers with the bookie. Then when the lottery started, he plays that now. When he had his heart attack he was in intensive care. We went to see him the next day and the first words out of his mouth was "What number hit.?" And the second one was "Will you play my numbers for me?" He had actually been in cardiac arrest but his first priority was his lottery numbers. So he didn't miss the lottery for one day.

Today I chopped up a head of cauliflower and made cauliflower rice in the food processor. I pack it in one cup portions and put it in the freezer. That's just right for me to make "fried rice." I made one portion today for my lunch. When I first did this, I didn't like it, because although it looks like fried rice, there's no fooling the taste buds....it's cauliflower. LOL But after I did it the second time I have come to accept that. I still have to refine the recipe. I will have to look through some real fried rice recipes to see what I can put in it to give it more of an authentic fried rice taste. It tastes good to me now, and I'm happy that I'm eating something that is no starchy carbs.

I got the jacket at Goodwill for 99 cents, and also 4 tops. So all this for $5. I'm a happy camper. I haven't tried any of it on, but anything that doesn't fit me gets passed to my step-daughter.

I don't know what we will be eating for dinner, but DH is rooting around in the freezer. ha ha We won't go out, because he wants to watch the Steeler game at 4. I want a tuna fish sandwich. I wanted one last night at the restaurant but he wouldn't let me order it because he said it was stupid to order something I could make at home. So today I'm making it at home. We were in the grocery store and they had a nice roast and also chicken tenders on sale, but I figured why buy them when he won't want to eat them, so I saved my money.

Wannabehealthy 12-18-2017 09:02 AM

Trish, I think I also should give up on checking FBG and concentrate more on the numbers throughout the day. Yesterday, I read in Dr Bernstein's book that alcohol in the evening can help bring down fasting. After dinner, my blood sugar was 206. I took Glimiperide. Then I decided to have a small glass of wine and see what happened. I had probably less than 2 inches in a wine glass, of dry white wine. When I checked BS at bedtime it was 115. I don't know if the Glimiperide did that or the wine. I woke up at 4AM and checked. It was 119. At 6 am however, it was 159. I did have a cough drop when I went back to bed. They are sugar-free, but I don't really know the carb count and don't know if that effected me. I was very hungry, so I ate 2 eggs at 6 AM. Right now at 8 blood sugar is 187. So it seems that my bs just keeps climbing in the morning. I finally took a Glimiperide to keep it from going even higher. I didn't think eggs would make it go up like that. They were actually pickled eggs and contained ACV, so I really didn't expect that spike. I might as well have had toast! LOL I know they say that BS keeps climbing like that in the AM because the liver dumps glucose, but I don't know what to do about it.

When you mentioned about drinking your coffee in 15 minutes I didn't understand the reasoning for it, but when I was reading a CALP thread someone said that if it takes you longer than 15 min to drink the coffee the body considers it a meal, and your insulin response with be higher.

I am going to quote directly from the book what Dr Bernstein says about eating small meals.

The upper part of the small intestines contains cells that release hormones into the blood stream when they are stretched, as after a meal. These hormones signal the pancreas to produce some insulin to prevent the blood sugar rise that might otherwise follow the digestion of a meal. Large meals will cause greater stretching of the intestinal cells, which in turn will secrete proportionately larger amounts of these hormones. Since a very small amount of insulin released by the pancreas can cause a large drop in blood sugar, the pancreas simultaneously produces the less potent hormone glucogon to offset the potential excess effect of the insulin. If you're diabetic and deficient in producing insulin, you might not release insulin, but you will still release glucagon, which will cause gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis and thereby raise your blood sugar. Thus, if you eat enough to feel stuffed, your blood sugar can go up by a large amount, no matter what you ate.

So I guess he's saying we should eat less to avoid the release of those hormones. He didn't specify if this applied to type 1, type 2, or both. As I understood it, type 2 are not deficient in producing insulin, but the body is resistant to it. But this helps explain why they say to eat small meals.

Another thing he says is this.

A non diabetic body can store insulin, and release it as soon as you eat, to keep blood sugar from going too high. But in type 2 there is a diminished ability to store insulin, or access stored insulin, so the blood sugar will go up very high after a meal, and has to wait for the second insulin response for a release of newly produced insulin to bring it down, or you might need oral meds or injected insulin to do it.

I think that's my particular problem. I always remember to take my meds in the morning, but I tend to forget before dinner. Then when I check BS after dinner it's so high that it becomes an emergency. I really should be taking my meds about a hour before dinner, because it take them a while to kick in.

I read somewhere, I forget where, that as you eat regular meals, your body starts to relearn to release the first phase insulin. If you go too long without a meal, say 5 hours or more, your cells forget how to do it. I don't get that, because that goes against what we've been told about IF, about how having that longer fasting period is better for insulin control. It would make things a lot easier if they all came up with the same answers to this. They all think they are right. I guess we just have to try and figure out which way works for us individually.

I slept half the night then tossed and turned the rest of the night, worrying about all I have to get done before Christmas. I wish I had started my cookie baking earlier in the month and froze them. That would help. I will have to do a marathon from now through Thursday, because DH has plans for us for the weekend, and this kids are coming on Sunday. Just between you and me, I would love to spend Christmas in my recliner with a good book, but I will not ever try to keep his kids away from him on a Holiday. I don't intend to invite the in-laws though. This is getting more stressful for me the older I get. Not enough advance planning on my part. I wish I could be one of those people who just go out and buy a tray of cookies, but that's just not me. I am a home baker, and my family expects my cookies.

This morning I have to go get more ingredients, then come home and get to it.

Wannabehealthy 12-18-2017 07:15 PM

Christmas Update. Both of my step children are coming on Christmas Eve instead of Christmas Day, so DH an I will have our first Christmas just the two of us! His kids lived with him from the first. Occasionally one of them would be away for Christmas, but there was always at least one here. It will be so relaxing not to be entertaining. I wouldn't want to be alone every year....or would I? LOL

pattygirl63 12-18-2017 08:12 PM

Carol SueNo you wouldn't want the holidays alone every year. We've had a number of those ourselves. We did pretty much enjoy them when we had them, but always enjoy the times I have with family too.

We probably won't have anyone over for Christmas either. DH has surgery on the left eye Wednesday morning and DBIL has his sinus surgery Thursday morning. His surgery is going more painful than DH. So we don't think that he will feel like eating much less be around all of us. We may get together when he feels better. We are going out tomorrow afternoon at Texas Roadhouse for DH birthday celebration. His birthday is Christmas eve and we always celebrate it earlier.

Yes the Diabetic Solution is the book that I have. I haven't read it in years. I did follow his plan for a while, but like Atkins, I just couldn't follow it long term. What he says about eating small meals is interesting though. I have to say that I do better if I wait 5 hrs between meals. If I wait 5 hrs like I did today, my bs reading is less. My bs reading was 112 just before main meal. I am hoping to make it through tonight without eating anything else until tomorrow at 10 am. That would give me an 18 hr fast. Sad to say that I haven't been successful at that so far.

I went on the low carb site I mentioned yesterday that used to have a Dr. Bernstein support group. It doesn't have it any more, but I read how exercise effects other diabetic bs readings. So I did 15 minutes on the bike this morning after breakfast and decided to do another 10 minutes tonight. I want to see how this works on my FBS.

If I don't eat anything else today, my calories will be approx. 1200.

Wannabehealthy 12-19-2017 08:37 AM

I am down 1.5 lbs from yesterday. I couldn't even remember what I ate yesterday, but now I remember that although it was not good, I didn't eat very much. I was starving when I got up so I ae 2 pickled eggs. When we went out later, DH wanted McDonald's breakfast and I had a sausage and egg McMuffin, but it was lunch for me. Then I was so busy baking I forgot about eating, except for 2 cookies that I tasted. At dinner time, DH wanted dinner, but I told him I was busy and he was on his own, so he made french fries. I had some of them, then I was so tired I went to bed at 8:30. At bedtime my blood sugar was 135, probably from eating the carbs. I made it a point not to have a cough drop and when I got up at 7 FBG was 139. So I think the cough drop, although sugar free, contains carbs that are contributing to my rise in BS. OR, maybe it was because I didn't eat much for dinner or after. This is how I ate when I lived alone and I was thin and very healthy. Maybe not healthy, but at least I was on no meds.

I just remembered, I had a very small glass of wine before bed. So maybe that contributed too. I did not test since I've been up and had my coffee with my SF creamer.

I think 5 hours is reasonable for between eating. Your previous meal gets digested before you eat again, and IF seems to work well for you. So every rule does not apply to everyone. We are all different. My concern is that we can't see what is happening with our insulin, like we can with blood sugar. We have to take their word for it that certain eating behaviors lowers it. One thing I read said to never go longer than 5 hours, including eating something if you woke up during the night. I worked with a woman who said she would eat during the night, but she was not awake. Food would be gone the next day. So if she was not getting up eating in her sleep, then someone was coming in her house during the night eating her food. LOL

So I am a smidge over 200 this morning, since 202 yesterday. Two little ticks on my doctor's scale. I have not been using my fat/water scale lately. I want to do it, but there's not enough room in the bathroom to have it in there all the time, so I have to carry it in there each time. Most of my house is carpet except for the bathroom and kitchen. The scale doesn't work on carpet. My doctor's scale is on carpet and works fine, but it's very very heavy, especially when I get on it. LOL

I do like being around family, but we prefer to host than go to someone else's house. It's mostly DH who objects. It's my own fault this year that I procrastinated and now I'm in a rush to get everything done. My home baked cookies are a very big part of our tradition. I usually start in November and bake 1 batch each week and have them stored in the freezer downstairs. This year I put it off til the last minute and now I'm not going to get all the ones baked that I want. I do a lot of half batches so I have a wide variety, but not an overabundance of cookies. This year I will have only the main ones everyone likes, and won't be able to send as many home with them as I usually do. I think if it wasn't for the cookies, they wouldn't show up. LOL

The thing I don't like about the LC forum is some of the Atkins or Keto people are so rude, insisting that it is the perfect plan for everyone. Some are doing other plans and doing well with them. I also read the Diabetes Forum and they are very big on Dr Bernstein there. I don't do well following any plan 100%, but I take tips from them. Maybe that's why I don't lose. But I like to be able to eat whatever I want, and just control portions. That's what feels normal to me.

I hope your DH and BIL both do well with their surgeries and are soon good as new. My friend is having a colonoscopy today and I'm worried because she has been having issues, so it's not a routine colonoscopy.

The End.

Wannabehealthy 12-19-2017 09:03 AM

Trish, I forgot to mention that sometimes exercise raises blood sugar. This makes some people not want to do it. I think it has something to do with the intensity of the work out. But that is just a temporary thing, and over time, it is known to lower blood sugar over all. I have never really tested after exercise. I do know that my blood sugar seems to be lower after a trip to Walmart, where I'm doing a lot of walking, and I walk fast there, pushing my cart. I know where everything is. I go straight back to dairy, then zoom from one aisle to the other to get the things on my list, and then meet up with DH in front of the store. I don't like him to stay with me, because he likes to browse. Browsing makes me buy things I shouldn't be buying...impulse purchases and doesn't burn as many calories.

pattygirl63 12-19-2017 02:03 PM

Carol SueI wish DH would stay with me more when I go shopping. I sometimes need him to reach things that are higher on shelves or I need to ask him about certain foods he might or might not like. However, there are times I shop without him because I know he gets what he wants and then wanders off to fuss because he says "I've walked over this store looking for you". Really? I think I'm easy to find since I'm shopping up and down the isles to what is on my list. I do try to have every thing on my list in the order they are in the store.

Well, BIL feels like going out for steak today so we will leave and run by HEB to get some things Daddy needs then I'll go do his meds. Since it is a rainy day, we will take him with us to the store and then DS and BIL will take him home so that we can take the interstate to Walmart to pick up Great grandson's Christmas present and I'll pick up a few groceries. I hope I don't have to go to the store again until after Christmas although I'm sure I'll have to go get milk Friday when I leave the beauty shop. It is supposed to rain all day today and again on Friday. I was hoping I could just go to the beauty shop and just come home. Will have to see how it goes. Still don't know what we will do Christmas day. Looks like another year of no Christmas, but at least Daddy won't be in the hospital fighting for his life. Hopefully.

My weight was down .6 lbs this morning and FBS was 133. I did my exercise before I checked it. I just checked it before breakfast and after the exercise. I started back on CAD this morning so I had a low carb breakfast. I think I found out what causes my potty issues which I haven't had in quite some time. Avocado. I cut 1/4 of one into my beautiful omelet and bingo. I don't think I will eat them any more. They ruin so quickly on me any way.

I am going back to the 1 CM low carb brunch, the RM and a CS low carb snack within the IF hours. I am going to try waiting 5 hrs in between the meals which will put me on a 10 hr eating window and 14 hr fasting.

I had a 2 egg, bacon omelet made with the pepper onion blend I got from Walmart and the Birds Eye riced cauliflower. That makes CM breakfast/brunch so easy to cook and eat. I do have Canadian bacon to alternate. Since we are going to Texas Roadhouse for dinner, I will just have a baked potato or garden salad with Italian dressing and green beans. DH and I are going to share a 10 oz prime rib and he will usually share the potato with me. However, I just might eat a CM at the restaurant and have RS when I get home. I remember watching Rachel on a tv show when they first came out with CAD who told a woman who said she had binged on cooking that she could have had that as a RM. Depends on how I feel by then. I just don't want to eat anything that will give me potty issues when we leave to go to Walmart. I could come home and have some nuts for a snack 5 hrs after eating which can only be eaten at RM on have a RS.

I am going to try to keep the RM more balanced if at all possible.

Better run. As usual time is getting away from me. :dizzy:

Oh yes. I like reading on the low carb sites, but I don't want to get involved on there. I do have the CAD support group on FB.

Have a good day.

Wannabehealthy 12-19-2017 02:25 PM

I am very heart broken and would like to ask for prayers for my friend. Her name is Carol, same as mine. She had her colostomy and she has cancer in her colon and anus, and they are going to do a scan to see if it has spread to any other part of the body. She was having problems, but I thought they were going to find it was something minor. We have been friends since high school, and have gone through so much together.

Trish, it might be the combination of the avocado and egg together is too much fat for you, and that's why you're having problems.

DH and I both have cell phones so we can find each other in the stores. We used to use walkie-talkies. I have actually asked strangers to get things off high shelves for me, and lots of times women ask DH for help, too. He is almost 6ft tall.

Sometimes when DH is down in the garage I will call the house phone with my cell phone to ask him something instead of going down the steps. LOL The height of laziness.

pattygirl63 12-19-2017 09:41 PM

Carol Sue:hug: I am so sorry about your friend. I hope she can get treatment. Did they say what stage? Perhaps they can get to it in time to take care of it so that she will be okay. I certainly hope so.

I've tried to get DH to get a cell phone so we can keep in touch. There are very few times when we are not together, and he won't take my cell phone because he doesn't like using it. He could get a flip phone with just texting and limited call for those times, but he won't hear of it. Hubbies are so stubborn. LOL

Today hasn't been my best eating day, but I'm not going to worry about it. I think it is just nerves. I'll be glad when these surgeries are over. DS and BIL surprised us and paid for our dinner. I told BIL we weren't going to plan any thing for Christmas until we know how he is feeling after his surgery. He said he will be alright and he wanted to come over Christmas day any way so I will go ahead and plan Christmas dinner although DS and I are reserving the right to decide not to do it he is in too much pain. With this new war on pain drugs, doctor's are not giving them out any more and he will only have Tylenol with Codeine. We have heard that it is extremely painful and he might not feel as good as he thinks he will.

I'm not impressed with his dentist. He had dental work done in July and the doctor waited until now to have anything done. He thought the whole in his mouth would heal without stitches, but I think once it wasn't healed after 6 weeks to 2 months they should have taken care of it then rather than waiting this long.

Finally got Dear great grandson's train set for his Christmas present from Walmart today. I will get in touch with DGS and have him come by and pick GGS birthday and Christmas presents. He turned 4 yrs old today.

We also got earrings and necklace for each of the 2 granddaughters in FL since I got the R2D2 painting to send their little brother for Christmas. I will mail the FL presents tomorrow afternoon on the way to the eye surgeons appointment. He has the surgery in the morning. Have to be at the hospital at 6:45 am. He has to be at the surgeon's office for 4 pm appointment when he will check the eye and give us instructions and a kit and send us home. We will go back in a week and if all is well we will not have to go back for a month. If all is well, he will be released then except to have new glasses if he needs them.

Guess I better go and turn on the dishwasher. We are still on that special electricity thing where we get free electricity from 8 pm to 4 am. So I do laundry and run dishwasher during those hours. I can't believe we save about $30 dollars a month on our electricity each month. I think that deal is up in February. I've got to call in the next few days to see if they have something special for regular customers we can do next.

Going to bed around 10 or 10:30 so I can get up at 5 am.

Catch you sometime after we get home tomorrow.

Wannabehealthy 12-19-2017 10:16 PM

My friend has to wait to talk to the doctor to find out what stage. The doctor just went by sight when she said it was malignant. They still have to get the results of the biopsy. She lost all that weight, walks a couple miles every day rain or shine, lowered her A1c to almost normal, and her PCP told her he wished all his patients were like here, and now this. A woman I worked with died from this, but I'm not going to tell her that. Everyone is different.

I finished all my baking today, and I'm glad that's out of the way. I made some pepperoni and cheese rolls, too. One year I decided not to make them and everyone was disappointed. We have a Slovak Christmas tradition call Bobalky. It is little balls of bread dough and you mix them in with sauerkraut. I baked the balls, but will give them to my step daughter and she will do the mixing with the sauerkraut. I still want to make a no bake recipe that is more like candy, and also make some pizzelles tomorrow. Then Thursday I clean the house really well and I'm finished and free to relax on Friday and Saturday. I still have to buy my ham, but that can be at the last minute. I'm really glad that I kept up to my schedule. I have to make a list of the snacky things I want to make. I make a cheese ball with chicken that everyone likes on crackers, and I want to make a corn/black bean salsa to eat with tortilla chips. Those things can be made ahead and refrigerated and they actually taste better if they are made ahead. But if I don't make a list and cross off each thing as I do it I will forget. I used to make little cocktail wieners with crescent rolls wrapped around them, too. They liked them, but I switch off from year to year so it doesn't become too predictable.

I didn't have breakfast today, had an egg sandwich for lunch, and DH got 2 appetizers from the local pizza shop for dinner and I had a bit of them. Two cookies while I was baking, too. BS was up a bit. I had some wine again. It seems to be helping so far. Poor DH hasn't had a good cooked meal in a few days. Maybe tomorrow.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and praying that all goes well.

pattygirl63 12-20-2017 02:39 PM

Carol SueI hope your friend's cancer is in early enough stage that it can be treated and stopped. I will be praying for her. Isn't she the one who ate whatever she wanted along with portion control? Makes me think eating healthier at least 90 to 95% of the time. If so, that makes me rethink what I eat.

You have been one busy lady with all that cooking . I remember when I used to do that when DH#2 was living. I'm so glad I don't have to do all that any more.

DH surgery went very well. Doc said every thing is fine with no crystals or any other crazy things going on. That means he should be fine. We are home for a short time and will go see him at 4pm for him to remove the patch and give us instruction on medications.

I didn't eat until I got home. Checked FBS before I ate at 12:30 and it was 126. I had the CM breakfast and DH wants to get McDonald's on the way home. That will be my RM. We will get it and bring it home. I've decided to just do CAD because I do not want to count calories any more.

I've been up since 4am so I'm going to take a quick nap before we have to leave.

BBL

Wannabehealthy 12-20-2017 03:34 PM

Trish, DH keeps reminding me that I don't HAVE to do all this baking, but I WANT to, and he's right. I could go to the store and buy a big tray of cookies, so I put this on myself. I usually start much earlier. I procrastinated.

My friend used to be a terrible junk food eater until the past year or so. Now she eats about 50 carbs per day, lots of salad, cottage cheese, yogurt, was never a big meat eater. I think eating a KETO diet of mostly just red meat is bad, a big factor in bowel health, and eating a lot of veggies is helpful. She does not eat red meat or much other meat for that matter but she was never a big veggie eater in the past. I think this is something that has been there for a while. It didn't just happen. Who knows what really caused it.

Glad to hear things went well with DH.

Gotta run!

pattygirl63 12-20-2017 08:27 PM

Went to the doctor's office and they removed the patch and DH has a black eye. Could take up to 3 weeks for it to go away. Not unusual for it to happen when the doctor gives the injection for surgery. Didn't happen the last time with the right eye so that was a surprise for us. Also he is cross eyed and has double vision which may be gone as early as tomorrow or the next. Has to do with the injection as well. Checked the vision etc and it was very good. We go back next Thursday for follow up and new instructions on medication that we now use which is 3 meds used 4 times a day.

We are both exhausted. He is sleeping now and I plan to sit here and relax and probably sleep myself until I have to do the drops again before I go to bed around midnight.

CAD has been perfect today and probably won't have a snack later because I'm just too tired to think about it and thinking of food right now makes me feel sick. BS before RM was 104. That is great. I will probably check FBS before CM breakfast each day and then check it again before RM.

Oh yes, thanks for the thoughts about the egg and avocado combo. I'm thinking that I cannot eat a lot of fat so Atkins or a LCHF diet would never work for me.

Carol SueI really think eating the fiber carbs is what keeps my colon clean. I still eat meat, but I don't eat as much as I ate when DH#2 was living. He was a meat and potato man and he loved his meat especially barbecue ribs etc. I always thought if he could have given up the potatoes that he would have loved Atkins, but never could get him interested.

We had a McDonalds hamburger for supper. It was nice just to eat it and not worry about counting the calories. I had it eat in less than 45 minutes so that is that.

Going to sit back and rest the rest of the night. I do have to wash the sheets because I want them washed before DH lays on them tonight.

Goodnight.

Wannabehealthy 12-21-2017 08:56 AM

Trish, there is a woman who does Atkins Induction all the time. She went from 292 lbs to 114. She eats one meal a day, and it is usually chicken and salad. She said having a boring diet keeps her from falling off the wagon. So, Atkins does not have to be high fat. I think the high fat is a suggestion because it makes you feel satisfied longer, but it is not really necessary. I have never done high fat. I just can't. It doesn't taste good to me and now it doesn't agree with me. I don't have to eat low fat, but cannot add extra fat to my meal. For years, I did not eat much red meat at all except for hamburgers. I ate chicken and seafood mostly. It was only the past couple years that I started eating steak and liking it. We didn't have much red meat growing up because chicken was cheaper.

Yesterday I was hungry for a hamburger. We went to this restaurant and I ordered one that I haven't had in years. It was awful. It had some kind of special sauce, similar to a Big Mac. I should have ordered it without the sauce. I felt sick all evening. I won't do that again. In the past year or so I have started wanting my meat with no sauces or gravies and that never tastes good to me. I made a suggestion to this restaurant that they bring back the pork chop dinner and also the salmon dinner that I used to order. I see they are back on the menu for over the holidays, but the pork has some kind of fruit over it, either apples or peaches, and the salmon has some type of sauce on it. I would not like either of them, unless I would be able to order them without the sauce. Also, the price is a couple dollars higher than it used to be.

Is this surgery your DH had for his cataracts? I thought that was what you had told me. I never heard of these types of after effects from cataract surgery. I hope this clears up soon.

My friend is going for her body scan on Saturday. I'm surprised they didn't just schedule her for after the holidays. Either they are just not busy, or they feel this is an emergency. She told me she is still stunned about this, and so am I. She never went for her colonoscopies before. This one was scheduled because she was having problems and the doctor said she needed to have it done. I don't think this is considered early detection. A polyp can usually be removed during the colonoscopy. This is bigger than a polyp. Although I am worried, a calm has come over me that this is going to be easily handled. I hope my intuition is right.

For years she never ate much fiber. She told me she only had a bowel movement twice a week. I couldn't handle that. Now that she has changed her diet so dramatically she has a bowel movement most days. I hope she asks the doctor what could have caused this, because I am curious.

My step son is a big meat eater. He grills almost every night, even in the cold weather. But he also eats a lot of vegetables. He never cared for potatoes when he lived here with us, and still doesn't. His wife eats low carb, so they rarely even buy potatoes or rice. My grandson, his son, has the same eating habits as his parents. He loves a lot of meat and doesn't like potatoes. My son-in-law is the same. They eat a lot of meat and grill often. We only grill a couple times a year.

I think we can only do the best we can and hope it all works out. You never know what's around the corner.
