Sorry I just saw this. Yes I am born and raised Texan. In fact, I was born and raised in Waco, TX. I lived in Denton where I went to college and lived in and around Dallas for a number of years after marrying 1st husband. Moved back home when he died. My 2nd hubby was from Waco and we lived between Houston and Gaveston for 8 hrs, moved to a small town west of Waco for a few years before moving back to Waco. We lived here for about 9 yrs and he died. We were married almost 31 yrs.s I met hubby #3 two yrs later on a Christian website. He and his wife had been married 31 yrs and she had died 3 months before my husband did the same year. So both had been widowed approximately the same length of time. A few months laterwe decided to get married. I married him and moved to So. Florida where we lived for about 4 yrs until his Mother died. Then we moved to S.C.

I absolutely loved S.C., but as you know I really missed having family around. So we decided to move here to be with Daddy for what years he has left. So here we are.

We do have really good barbecue here in TX. In fact, even the Mexican food here is so much different than in S.C. In S.C. spices food are just hot, no real flavor as far as I'm concerned, but in TX while we like spicy foods it has to be flavorable. I'm sure people in SC would disagree with me.

Thank you for your thorough response, Trish. I figured since you had so much family there that it was where you were born and raised. I was born in PA but in the Philadelphia area. We moved to the Pittsburgh area where my parents were from after my Dad got sick and I have lived here ever since.

I enjoyed hearing your story.

Thanks Carol Sue I sent you an email with pic of Ceylon Cinnamon I just ordered from Amazon. I didn't know cinnamon did all of those things for our health. I ordered 2 bottles of 120 capsules. They are 600 mg each and you only have to take 2 a day before a meal with a full glass of water.

Funny thing when I was reading reviews on the ceylon cinnamon (I think it was on this brand not sure) one of the reviews was by someone who called herself Wantabehealthy. I thought it was you until I read that she and her hubby have diabetes. Small world isn't it? LOL

My FBS has been rather high the past few days. I know my eating hasn't been wise choices, but I haven't had these #s in quite some time. I'm about ready to call my doctor and have him give me the glimiperide. However, once I read what I did about the cinnamon, I think I will give it a try.

I tried eating true CAD CM of no starches of any kind of starchy carbs for breakfast and I just don't think that works for me. My body has switched on me. I'm wondering if after the health problems I had after cleaning myself out for the colonoscopy and taking the probiotics etc if my body has switched and is functioning more normal because it is a little healthier. Remember, before then I couldn't eat the starches because it raised my bs instead of lowering it like it was supposed to. Suddenly it seems that I need the small amount of carby foods to lower the bs.

I was impressed to learn that the ceylon cinnamon lowers blood sugar, lowers cholesterol and improves good cholesterol, it's an anti-inflammatory helping with joint pain as well boosting energy. It is also good for the gut. These are what people say improves as they took it. One woman said as long as she took it her blood sugar went down, but when she stopped it that it went back up. So worth trying. I'll get mine Friday.

Ya got to love Amazon. They have everything. LOL

Wannabehealthy 11-15-2017 08:57 AM

Trish, you will have to let me know how this Cinnamon works for you. I'm curious. I don't buy much from Amazon because I do not have Prime.

I am learning a lot about my blood sugar by checking it when I wake up in the middle of the night, but I'm also using a lot more strips. I won't be doing this forever. I usually do it when I take the Glimiperide, and then I'm so afraid of a hypo in the middle of the night. At 3 AM BS was 104. When I got up at 8 AM it was 124. Now to do that without the meds.

In a non diabetic who eats carbs, blood sugar raises, then comes back down quickly, and that's what it sounds like is happening to you, but I don't understand why yours continues to go up if you don't include carbs.

It seems to me that your body now wants to follow the ADA guidelines of eating carb at each meal throughout the day. I was able to do that when I was first diagnosed. The thing is, I have read that you are more insulin sensitive in the AM and should eat your carbs earlier in the day, and fewer later in the day when you become more insulin resistant. Remember back in the day when they said to eat breakfast like a king and dinner like a pauper? I, however, am trying to cut back on carbs over all. I am most satisfied when I only have eggs at my first meal, or maybe 1 small piece of my sprouted grain toast. Dinner and evening seems to invite the carbs, so I am doing what comes naturally to me. I could probably change that if DH wasn't involved. I have really gotten back to the snacking, and that's not good. I used to be able to ignore his potato chips etc. I'm not hungry and should not be eating them. I could get the same crunch factor with celery sticks and peanut butter or cream cheese. I do like them, and they would be much healthier.

I am trying to eat less for dinner and that's why I did not order at Wendy's. I knew DH would not eat all of his. He never does. He buys 2 burgers and eat 1 1/2. So I knew the half would be perfect for me. I did not count on getting the Frosty. It did not taste as good to me as I remember. It seemed too sweet and a little gritty. I know I no longer have the sweet tooth I used to have, so maybe the day will come when I will not be tempted. I did that with the cones at Dairy Queen and for 3 years now, I only had 1 per season. I'm making improvements over time, and by the time I die, I should be darn near perfect! LOL

We know of some people who eat out, but split their meals. DH is embarassed to do that. He thinks people will think we are cheap, but really, it's smart. Why buy more food than you need? Sometimes we split a Stromboli and side salad. It's the perfect amount of food for us with no leftovers to take home. But when we order it, he tells the server we are being cheap today. He's embarassed. The couple across the street from us used to split a sandwich and each get a cup of soup, and he made fun of them and called them cheap. He needs to get over that. I don't think the server really cares what we order, as long as we give them a decent tip. LOL

I will get on with my day and stop back later.

Wannabehealthy 11-15-2017 09:13 AM

Trish, I was reading the reviews of a different brand of cinnamon on Amazon, and one woman said she was not getting results. Then she heard that it was more effective without the capsules, so she started opening the capsules and dumping it out onto her food and then she got results. So that might be something you might want to try. I was trying to think what you could put it on, and the only things I could think of were applesauce and oatmeal. If you don't already eat those things, then you are just adding calories to your diet.

I have some cinnamon capsules I was taking and stopped taking them because they showed no results. I am going to see if I still have them and see if it says what type of cinnamon it is.

pattygirl63 11-15-2017 10:41 AM

Carol Sue The one I got some info on it and it day say that you could open the capsul and use it on foods etc. I might try that any way. You mentioning that made me think of how the RN at CHF told me to have Daddy crush the Lasix to help with the stomach fluid.

I think you are right about my body wanting to follow the ADA plan, however, after reading the book Low Carbing for Dummies, I know that I can still eat moderately low carb by eating 3 to 5 starchy carbs and still be following the ADA plan. I just don't think eting 11 or 12 starchy carbs is good for any one. The nutritionist I talked to about 18 yrs ago told me to do that and I knew enough from Dr. Atkins that was not a good thing for me to do. That would have just made the diabetes worse.

I do think we have just been eating too out too much and I've also been under a lot of stress this week. I have to take that all in stride. I really don't want to take the glimiperide if I don't have to and can't start the shots until January. Hopefully the cinnamon will help. I went back to Amazon this morning and order 2 more bottles. I want to give one to my sister. I paid for them to get her tomorrow. Today I will add another Berberine since I've been taking only 2.

DH had to cut his Metformin back to 500 mg to stop his diharria.

I got to get busy. I have to leave to meet Daddy and DS for breakfast. I'm going back to the taquita this moring. I'm also drinking my coffee.

I'll be back later.

Wannabehealthy 11-15-2017 11:36 AM

I had to come back and post that I forced myself to get weighed even though I wasn't happy about my eating the past few days. I am down 3 lbs. LOL Right at 200 exactly, and that was after 2 cups of coffee. So I have come to the conclusion that it matters more how much I eat, but not so much my choices. I always tried to eat only healthy foods, but was always eating too much. Now I realize that I can eat a smaller amount of something and it's OK if it's less than perfect. That doesn't mean I am going to go how wild on poor choices, just that I'm not going to worry about it as much. Thin people eat whatever they want, but they just don't stuff themselves.

Wannabehealthy 11-15-2017 05:15 PM

Eating went well today. I had fried eggs with my sprouted grain toast. I ate some of the Ramen Noodles DH had for lunch. For dinner I had salmon with mixed vegetables. I love salmon. It was so good. I don't understand the way I used to eat, following in DH's footsteps. I am eating things I like so much and it's so much healthier. I feel that I made good choices and did not overeat. I feel satisfied, but not stuffed. It would be nice to see another drop tomorrow.

pattygirl63 11-15-2017 05:23 PM

Carol Sue All this is weird isn't it. My FBS was 186 this morning; the highest its been in over a year. Before dinner, it was 108. I'm beginning to think I'm just getting up in time to read my low reading of the day.

However, I did eat my egg and bacon taquita with a cup of coffee with a little tub of Vanilla creamer. I just don't understand all this. My DS is learning to eat slow as she doesn't count calories or anything. We all get taquitas now. She punched me when we started to eat and said "Slow down, eat slow". I was eating slowly and then Daddy said to me, "Finish yours, so I can finish mine". Turns out we were obviously playing a game to see who could take the longest to finish. I told him, "I'm not going to eat all mine so I'm about through." I did good, I decided to use the IE rule of "stop when I'm satisfied" so I threw away 1/5 of it. I am so proud of myself for doing that.

I didn't eat a lot today. DH bought hot dogs and a big jar of saurkraut and we had left over coleslaw. He decided he wanted some of that for lunch. We divided the coleslaw and since I really wasn't in the mood for saurkraut so I ate a little bit of that with the hotdog cut into it. I had some left over Italian green beans so I ate those for a green veggie. I finished that off with some nuts.

I think one of the things that might be causing the high FBS could be the B12 gummies I have been taking the past few days. That is the only changes I have made lately. I will either give them to my Daddy or just throw them out. I wanted the Sublingual, but this Walmart didn't have them. We used to get them at the Walmart in SC. I don't know if they carry them here. I hope I can find them somewhere else.

Evidently the little gadget they made for Daddy to use when he sleeps works. Daddy slept through 5 hrs before it bothered him and he woke up. It is gadget the ENT made for him. Daddy said it is kind of like what the football players wear to protect their teeth. His color was better this morning and his eyes were brighter and that was just one night with it. Evidently correcting the Sleep Apnea helps a lot.

So far today has been good. I've had 2 meals and if I need a snack later I will have one, but I hope I won't need one.

loserbug 11-15-2017 05:41 PM

I was reading the posts and sounds like everyone is really doing well! Congrats! For me not giving up is half the battle. I saw the comments about stopping when your full and that is a huge problem for me. I rarely feel full. Even when I eat a lot. I've always thought someday I'll find out something in my brain just isn't working right to say your full already, lol.

If I understand what you were saying about BS being low in the middle of the night and then higher when you checked at 8am...I sure don't understand that but that has happened to me. Infact, recently I had a colonoscopy and two days before all liquids then all clear liquids then drinking the stuff to clean you out. In the middle of the night I wasn't feeling well, I had to drink more stuff at 2:30 and checked bs I forget now but it was like 120. I ate nothing and couldn't drink anything, I get to hospital and they are getting me ready check bs and it was 172. They seemed to find it hard to believe that I really had not eaten something. Not sure if it was stress...

I've done okay today. One more day under my belt. 1/2 multi grain bagel w/ ff cream cheese at breakfast...bs was 110 and tuna salad salad at lunch and 101 bs just now, getting ready to eat dinner. Not feeling as bad as yesterday at this time, but still not right...gotta get off my sugar high and get used to the low numbers I guess. having a version of beef strogonaff...trying for first time. using the veggie pasta and ff cream of mushroom soup ff sour cream mushrooms onions a little bit of lean beef tossed in....we shall see. has some celery earlier...I love fruit, hard to believe I've not eaten any yet today. will be my snack after dinner I guess. scales aren't moving, I know its going slow because i'm not exercising...I should...I say as I sit on sofa...guess if I want to see progress more quickly I should be putting forth more effort. maybe this evening will take a nice long walk with my dog :)

loserbug 11-15-2017 05:45 PM

I've typed my numbers into profile for weight but they don't show up....not sure what i'm doing wrong

Wannabehealthy 11-15-2017 07:13 PM

Loserbug, are you clicking on "save changes" after you enter the numbers? Sometimes I forgot that.

The dawn phenomenon causes your blood sugar to go up in the early morning hours. You have not eaten for a long time so when your blood sugar goes down, your liver thinks you are starving so it releases stored glucose into your blood stream. Or something like that. LOL I'm surprised they didn't know about that at the hospital.

Trish, I bought the sublinqual B12 at Walmart. When I started having the problems with my foot I stopped taking everything new that I had started taking just in case something was causing the problem. There's no change, so I guess I could go back to taking it. The thing is, I don't know if I'm low in B12 and I don't know how I would tell if it's helping me. This is why I don't like to take supplements. I have bottles and bottles of things I've bought and only taken for a short time. I don't notice a change, so I assume it's not doing anything so I stop taking it. They have probably expired by now and I should throw them out. The only thing I'm continuing is the Vit D because I know 1) I don't get in the sun enough, and 2) PA doesn't have much sun anyway. I thought it might help with my psoriasis but there's no significant change. I get more or less from time to time.

loserbug 11-15-2017 08:02 PM

Thanks for the assistance. I finally got those stats in. Yes, I agree the hospital should have known...they did go ahead with the colonoscopy but really acted like they didn't believe me about my numbers. My next appointment with my regular md I was told exactly what you said....

This is the problem I have with doing long Fasts. My FBS goes up and I don't like seeing the high numbers. I've never seen anyone discuss how Fasting helps with this part of the fast. I just can't get my head around that being a good thing since I'm working to bring the numbers down. To me it is smarter to go ahead and eat or drink something if it is going to bring the FBS down rather than eat nothing and it go up any way. I guess I just don't understand the concept of how that works. Maybe I'm not giving it time to work.

pattygirl63 11-15-2017 09:32 PM

I just looked up IF and rising blood glucose. I am sharing this so you can read the article. I printed it out to read. I think I will use some of their guidelines. I may be doing some things wrong.
