Oh...I did walk my dog today after dinner...so a little exercise did peak through.
Can't remember if I asked or if it was in post that went to outer space...but do either of you have fitbit or anything like that? Do you challenge each other or anything? Curious Oh and I realized...this was in the last missing post that Trish is in TEXAS and so am I. Was saying how it's wet, cold here and yet was about 90 degrees a couple days ago |
Let me apologize now...
incase I am doing any repeating.
But I have a HUGE coupon lady!!! Saw the post about the 5% using the Target card and was excited to hear some common interests above and beyod the diabetes. I'm diehard with coupons. Although, when I was not working I was doing better...I do what I can around work, etc. And I was disappointed that the Good RX/Savings Card wouldn't be something that would work for ya'll. With all my health issues the discounted prices really help. I've had a couple of Cancer surgeries and I get shots for retina leakage in my eye too frequently...not fun. I go in about 2 weeks for my next check. Have had a few hemorrhages in my eye also, all due to the diabetes. But, I feel the tide changing. Feel on the upswing, getting a grip on these problems :carrot: |
Loserbug I live in Central TX. Yesterday was cold and raining. Today was cold. I think the high today was around 51. Tomorrow is supposed to be back up to 65. We are supposed to have warmer weather and in rain Sunday through Monday.
I don't use Fitbit but I think Carol Sue does or did. I don't usually do challenges because I have a tendency to not be able to stick to them and it sets me up for failure. I think Carol Sue has been on some challenges but not sure how she did. I didn't do very well yesterday, but today has been good. I have been working to get my house organized for Thanksgiving Day. I can't believe it is only 2 weeks away. I did get the front bedroom pretty much ready and I have made some head way with the living room area. I actually threw away some stuff. I need to do that even more after the holiday. Any way all that cleaning worked for me because I didn't eat until about 3:30 and I did a 5 hr eating window. I think I would do so much better if I could do that everyday. Beauty shop tomorrow and breakfast Daddy and sister. I need to go to the store and have to also pick sample meds from Daddy's cardiologist. I usually by lunch ready made, but I want to cook. I noticed HEB sells bison steaks and I want to try it so I think I will buy one or two for our lunch tomorrow. DS and I planned our Thanksgiving dinner today. Her DD created a FB page or whatever where everyone can sign up for what they are bringing. We will have Vegan, Vegetarian and Regular foods. I told DS no wonder so many of us have weight problems since we are all Carb Addicts. I'm going to have to figure in some veggies. Vegetarian doesn't always mean healthy or veggies. LOL. I'm sure they have veggies in their food but they use a lot of grain carbs. I decided to enlist my DBIL to make a vegan dressing since he has made it before and I'm making a regular dressing. Nieces DH is making a vegan coleslaw and brussel sprouts. I better get to bed. Catch y'all tomorrow. I'm tired. Goodnight. |
Loserbug, I am not as committed as I sound. I talk a good talk. I have been below 200 many times, but can only seem to stay there for a short while then I bounce back up. But I only go up about 5 lbs, no major gains. Since 2008 I have been at this.
I used to eat 4 donuts. No problem. And that would be after eating my meal. DH still eats all that stuff but I have had to turn it around after a few years of really high blood sugar. I am afraid of the consequesces of high blood sugar now that I have seen it happen in some others. Blood sugar control is more my goal than weight loss, but I would like the weight loss too. I just don't stay on plan consistently to make it happen. I hate challenges. I join them, but never succeed. I think I get stressed out from it. I end up gaining or staying the same, and it many cases, just dropping out. I will post some links to some good challenges here on 3FatChicks if you're interested. I have a Fitbit. I don't even challenge myself with it. I just want to know how many steps I take normally throughout the day, but don't make an effort to get more by doing extra. My one friend does though, and she gets many more than I do, and my DIL does that also. She competes with her BIL to see who can get the most. My Fitbit shows my sleep stages and that's the feature I like the most. Trish, your niece is really into the planning for Thanksgiving! And here I don't even know if I'm having it or who is coming. All I know is so far I have 2 turkeys and the ingredients for pumpkin pie. That's all we need for DH and I, and only need more if others are coming. LOL My step-children seem to treat our house as somewhere to go when they don't have anywhere else to go. We are the last resort, but they don't realize of maybe don't care that I need to know so I can plan. My weight is right at 200 today in spite of yesterday being UD. I do not eat extra on UD. I eat the way I normally would eat. We were at the store and I looked at donuts, but they wanted 79 cents for one, and it wasn't worth that for me. DH bought some sweet rolls that he likes, so he broke off a piece for me and that was enough. I could have eaten more, but thinking about the scale today stopped me. I wasn't hungry, just satisfied. I think daily weighing will help me, but I know myself, and the first time I see the scale go up, I will quit the daily weighing. Ignorance is bliss, they say. I made brownies for my Grandson. They are cooling. He loves my brownies, and they are just Betty Crocker Box brownies. LOL He is coming around noon. We don't see him as much as we used to since they moved. He is 9 now. |
Loserbug, here is a link to the challenges. Most of them you can join even if they've started, they don't care, and are usually just happy to get new participants. Riestrella usually has good ones, with spreadsheets and prizes, but she ended the Halloween and is not going to do another for the end of the year. Busy and taking a break. I'm sure you could find one here to join it, or maybe just follow along if you want.
https://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/chi...challenge-159/ Here is the exercise section. There are some exercise challenges here, or you can start a thread by clicking on New Thread on the top left. https://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/exercise-34/ |
Trish, do you consider yourself to be a Texan? I know you were not a life long resident of the Carolinas. I was watching a show on TV today about Bar B Que in Austin. That is a way that I would love to have lived, with grilled and smoked meats. We don't have much of that in PA. The closest thing we have to that is Smokey Bones, and DH doesn't like that. He likes more of homestyle cooking, which is what is big in our area.
I don't know what we are going to eat today. My DIL should be coming to pick up John soon, then we have to find something or somewhere to have dinner. |
Loserbug I am committed to learning what works for me. I know basically what to do, but I'm sorry to say I'm not always 100%. I am working at that too. The main thing I can say that I am determined to do is to be committed enough to not allow the diabetes to become worse.
I woke up early this morning and got up. I did 15 minutes on the recumbent bike and may do 15 more later, although I did walk a lot today. I had to get daddy's samples for Xarelto from Cardiologist office so I parked far enough to get a little walk out of that. I always park further away from the store even though I do have the handicap plate on my car. I try to find a place next to or close to a cart area so I can get a cart to use as I walk in and I can put it back there after I put my groceries in the car. That way I get a pretty good walk to and from the store besides the stop and start walking in the store. I figure that gives me at least 15 minutes of walking exercise too. I tried drinking black decaf coffee before I exercised and I don't think that works for me. It is interesting to me that my bs reading was way up there 191 afterwards. I know it could have been the exercise, but I'm not sure. My FBS was 159 before then. Of course, the reading after the decaf coffee and exercise was way before I ate since I checked FBS around 8ish, 2nd reading before I left a little after 9 am. I just don't think the black coffee or decaf works as well for my bs as the added h&h and Splenda does. I think anything that lowers the reading has to be much better. So, I'm not giving it up. I ended up doing a DD yesterday so today is a UD. I bought a roasted chicken for our main meal. I did get some zucchini/yellow squash to cook and eat. I was going to get the coleslaw blend so I could cook it, but HEB didn't have any cut up. I will get some when I go to Walmart sometime this weekend to pick meds. I did get a bag of prepared raw broccoli florets and a cauliflower for me to cut into florets for us to have for a snack at night along with salad dressing for a dip and/or some deli slices. So I'm prepared for 2 meals and a snack each day within a 8 hr eating window. Birdseye has come out with a frozen side dish of mashed cauliflower, but it has over 400 mg sodium so I didn't get it. I did get some more riced cauliflower for my eggs in the morning. I did spurge for one thing. I've been wanting German Chocolate cake. I had thought about making on for Thanksgiving, but I don't want the leftovers because DH doesn't like cake. I was surprised that HEB actually sells serving sizes of it. So I bought one and will cut it in half so I can have some today and freeze the other half for another day. I'm not doing MFP any more. I think I will start counting calories and carbs in a spiral notebook. I don't use my exercise calories anyway because I don't trust their counts. I've read that exercise does not help you lose weight. However, it is good for our health. I can keep up with the amount of exercise and not worry about anything else with them. Well, I am going to get busy. I need to make a salad and I think I'm going to stirfry some of the squash I bought. I like it already being sliced and I can just put a handful in a skillet and cook really fast. Carol Sue What did you say abaout being wordy? LOL |
Thank goodness its Friday!
My Dr was happy with results. Being consistent with eating better and taking my medication which is a win for me. Although, this morning I awoke to 101 blood sugar and started shaking soon after. We go to bed early, because dh rises early and she said too long without food, to have 1/2 an apple or some celery w/ peanut butter before bed. So, down to 2 injections which is a win! I don't know if I said, but talking about the birds eye cauliflower mashed...we tried some cauliflower tator tot things a week or two ago, not bad at all. didn't notice sodium numbers, dh ate 3x what a serving was, lol. I do not think I could make brownies, smell them, see them and not eat them. And I couldn't eat just one...would devour the entire pan. You've got willpower girl! I'm in a suburb of Dallas. Our weather warmed up today! It's super nice out. |
I was wanting to know my steps and was going to get a fitbit, my high tech son says no no, mom you need the apple watch. I would have a flip phone if it wasn't for him continually forcing me to keep up with the times. He has latest and greatest and frequently his old...which is way new trickles down to me and dh. My bday and xmas presents are usually upgrading me because he knows otherwise I won't. So, I suspect he thinks its necessary for me to be high tech with that as well. Men/Boys and their toys :) LOL
I'm eager for Thanksgiving too and hard to believe that its so close. Curious, are ya'll forgoing the strict diet on that day or cooking healthy versions? My techy son will want macncheese and mashed potatoes and big yeast rolls.... I'm thinking I will try to do happy medium, have a little of both. That will be tricky because once starting is hard to stop. |
I had the very first fitbit ages ago and used it every single day, really did well...then it seemed everyone I knew got one and they did challenges...I was at the bottom and eventually they all moved on. Mine broke. So, I agree with both of you about the challenges, they didn't help me at all. But, I did enjoy my own numbers and buzzed when and if I hit my 10K steps. That was a big deal.
|
I agree, healthy is better and the main goal. I don't want to be blind and with my eye situation I really have to get control. But, hey I wouldn't be upset to lose some also :)
I don't have any grandchildren, that's nice that you get time with yours. Carol, that is so good your able to eat a small piece of a sweet roll....to fill that sweet tooth. I just can't stop. It tastes good and I want more. It's almost easier for me to just not have it at all. |
Loserbug
Congratulations on the good dr. appointment. You do have to be careful of going too low too fast. It is good that you are getting this under control now. I've done that a few times when I was younger, but I didn't keep it under control. What injections do you take? My goal is to get the blood sugar back down and work at keeping it there this time. I live just north of Waco. Are you on the north or south of Dallas. Did you grow up there? I lived in Dallas off Harry Hines years ago. I lived in Irving and Grand Prairie when my 1st husband was living. I lived between Houston and Galveston for a few years when 2nd hubby's and my children were little. Moved back to Waco until he died and I married again and moved to FL with hubby #3. We lived in S. C. just south of Charlotte, N.C. for 10 yrs and then decided to move back here to be close to my 94 yr old Daddy. My family lives in and around Waco so it is nice to be around them again. I haven't seen the cauliflower tator tot type things. Where did you find them? Are they made by Birds Eye too? I will have to look for them. My blood sugar before our main meal today was 112. It was 111 yesterday so that is good. Carol Sue I am going to read Dr. Johnson's Alternate Day Diet again. Based on the way things have gone with my eating etc this past week, I have decided that eating breakfast and lunch and allow myself a vegetable snack (as needed) will work out better for me. I want to use the Alternate Day Diet to do it. I don't think I want to do 300 to 500 calorie days, but I think I can do the OMAD every other day. At least that is what I'm going to do my best to do. |
Loserbug, I have 4 Fitbits. LOL First I got a One, so I could carry it in my pocket. I did not want one on my wrist since I usually like to wear a watch. Then my DH saw a brand new Fitbit at Goodwill for $2, so I have that one, too, but have never used it. It is the cheapest one that you can also carry in your pocket, I don't remember the name of it. Then I wanted one that would show my heart rate so I got a Charge. I had to push a button on it to see the heart rate. Shortly after that the Charge 2 came out and you don't have to push the button to see the heart rate. I mentioned that I wish I had waited and DH said if you want it, get it, so I did. LOL I switch back and forth with them when one is being charged. I like the Charge 2 HR the best because it shows how much time you spend sleeping, plus it shows deep sleep, light sleep, rem sleep and time awake. I like seeing that. I like seeing the heart rate because I'm a heart patient and like to know how high my heart rate goes when I do things.
I do not agree with your doctor that the 101 you had was too low. You got shaky because your body is not used to it being that low, but you were not in any danger. I believe that is called a false hypo. I am not telling your not to listen to your doctor, just stating my opinion. It's great that you have lowered your medication and some day might get off it altogether. I know you do have to be careful about night time hypos when you are taking meds. When I started eating a lot of vegetables, I lost my interest in sweets. When we go to a buffet, I would rather go through the buffet a second time while DH goes to the dessert bar. I can easily pass dessert, but like a bite of something once in a while. I could probably live without sweets the rest of my life and it wouldn't bother me. Chocolate candy is the exception. I do like that. I will eat some of everything on Thanksgiving. There is no food that is not allowed on my plan, but there are foods that I limit, like sweets and carbs. I will just try to keep my portions small. I don't really like pumpkin pie. I make it because DH loves it and it is tradition. I will have bread stuffing, mashed potatoes and a vegetable. If my SIL comes, she will bring the sweet potato casserole. I only like sweet potatoes baked, so I don't eat the one with the brown sugar and marshmallows. If she doesn't come, there will be no sweet potatoes. LOL We don't care one way or another if we have them. If my DIL comes, she will bring some type of dessert. They know I don't make many desserts. And my step daughter will bring her appetite. She doesn't bake or cook much. Trish, Dr Mark Hyman says that the stress you get from trying to follow your plan 100% is just as bad for your body as going off plan once in a while. He says sometimes he likes to have "entertainment food" and eats healthy 90%. Today I should have had a DD but I knew I wouldn't be able to so I just did as good as I could. I had my eggs this morning, did have 1 brownie, and for dinner we went out. I had salad, green beans, salmon and a side called pierogie casserole. That was probably the worst thing I ate, but it was very good. It was bow tie pasta mixed with mashed potatoes, onion, cheddar cheese and then baked. I ate half of my salmon and green beans and have that for tomorrow. So it was another UD, but that's OK. I allow myself to go out of the rotation, as long as I get at least 3 DD per week. JUDDD works for me, and I won't give up because I'm not perfect. I have heard that your blood sugar can go up after exercise, that regular exercise will lower blood sugar overall. If I were you, I would not avoid the cream and sweetener if it helps lower your blood sugar. |
I live North Dallas, small suburb near Plano. I'm sure living in the area you're familiar with that. No I didn't grow up here. We moved a lot when I was a kid, but happen to be in this area when I got married, some family in TX and some in OK. My adult life was mainly in OK near my Grandparents, but they passed and dh got job offer in Dallas, so now we've been here about 11 yrs.
I may have not explained what my dr said correctly, she said it was not too low, but that since I had the shakes that it was a long time to be without food. She says I should shoot for 90 to 110. So, she said I was exactly where I should be. Currently I'm taking Victoza and Toujeao. For the last 3 weeks or so I was also taking Humalog, but no more now that she feels like we've got good control with the other two. I don't know the medication that they give me for shots in my eye. The tator tot things are green giant. |
