This is confusing to me. My FBS was 137 today and after eating the taquito at Whataburger and before I had my second meal, my bs was 111. It is confusing because my bs reading before main (2nd) meal when I eat a low carb meal is 125 or higher. I don't think low carb eating works with my body. So I will not be eating low carb any more. However, I don't plan to eat very high carbs either,

fatmad Glad you checked in and happy that your eating didn't mess up you weight. I think you have found your way. When will you be moved into your new home.

Carol Sue I hope you are doing and feeling well today.

My day was OK today. I still have my tendonitis pain but it's not as bad as it was. I soaked my foot in epsom salts a couple times. I don't know if that's helping or not, and I'm still taking the pain pills. Tylenol at night and Motrin during the day, just one dose of each.

My eating was mostly low carb. We went to the casino buffet. It was not as good as usual. I think they have eliminated the smoked salmon, which is a disappointment to me. One of my favorites. So I had 1 small piece of steak and some sides.

Today when I was doing my hair and make up I could see my arm in the mirror and I noticed that the psoriasis on my elbows is gone. Then I realized that it was not nearly as bad on my scalp recently, either. I mentioned that to DH and he said it's clearer on my back, also. The only thing I can think of that would be helping is the Vit D I'm taking. Normally, psoriasis gets so much worse in the winter.

Nothing else is really new.

I bought some beef bones and soup meat and am making vegetable beef soup tomorrow. Haven't had that since last winter.

Glad to hear you are doing well, Mad, with your eating and also the moving. All that activity is good for you, as long as you don't hurt yourself.

Trish, we are all different and have to do what works. How many carbs are in a taquito? Remember, the protein in the eggs/meat in it slows down the digestion of the carbs. We have to figure out what effects us and what doesn't. My biggest problem is bread products, and they are also my biggest weakness.

Carol Sue Sorry you were disappointed in the food at the Casino. I'm glad the psoriasis is getting better.

The taquito is 28 g carbs. The eggs are 2 g and the tortilla is 26, the cheese is 0. If I count the carbs the way the diabetic nutritionists say to count it equals 2 carb servings since I think they count 15 g carb as 1 carb serving.

It is just amazing to me that my bs readings are lower when I eat the carbs than they are if I don't.

Yes, Trish, that really is amazing. My blood sugar is very low if I eat low carb. If I eat carb, my blood sugar not only goes up, but it stays up a long time before coming back down. I didn't think a tortilla would be 26 gm. It must be big!

Hmmm. I just looked online at a McDonald's Sausage and Egg Burrito, which is similar to a taquito. It's also 26 gm of carb. I had them a couple times until I started eating the Sausage and Egg McMuffin without the muffin. I always thought that a tortilla wrap was suggested as a better choice for dieting so I guess that's why I thought they were lower.

Carol Sue The low carb tortilla that I buy has only 6 Net Carbs. It is 19 g carbs with 13 g fiber. I never checked the fiber in the one at Whataburger, but since it is regular tortilla, I'm sure it has little to no fiber. Plus the low carb one is only 90 calories. I did find it interesting thing about the taquito at Whataburger is 28 g carbs meaning that when I just get the egg and bacon, I'm only eating 2 g carbs. I have bought the taquito and eat the eggs, bacon and cheese out of it and not eat the tortilla. I could eat half the tortilla and eat the egg, bacon and cheese and cut the carbs back to 14 which would be considered 1 carb serving instead of 2.

I think I'm going to count my carbs the way the low glycemic book and the low carb book for dummies said. 15 g of carbs counts as 1 carb serving. A lot of people seem to have no problem with that. I know DH DD did very well eating that way when she was diabetic during her pregnancy last child. Sorry can't think of the name right now. I don't know how many carbs they had her eat, although I think I have her book here somewhere, but the book for dummies said no less than 3 servings and no more of than 5. I have to look it up, but I don't think that non starchy veggies or dairy carbs counted. I have to look it up before I do that, because I could be wrong on that one, but I think she said if you followed her plan that she already had that figured into it. I also have a sample that the doctor gave me when I went to her when we first moved here.

I've decided that I may as well try it. I've nothing to lose since what I've been doing doesn't seem to work. My weight is back up but eating the carbs seems to bring my bs back down and that is my biggest goal right now is to keep that number down.

Oh, I did see Trulicity in the Formulary from our Part D insurance. If I take it, I would have to pay 1/2 price. Unless they bring it down which I don't think they will, it would cost me over $300 at 1/2 price. DH got a letter from them yesterday telling him they are not going to cover Xeralto any more and to ask his doctor to prescribe Eloquist or Pradaxia instead. Pradaxia is a Tier 4 (we pay 1/2 price) and Eloquist is a Tier 3 which means it would cost us $47 so unless the doc wants to continue giving him samples, we will have to go with the Eloquist. I know nothing about it so will have to read up on it.

I did see that for $47 a month, I could go on Victoza. Fatmad When you read this, what do you know about Victoza? Doesn't or didn't Ruth, who does South Beach and used to be on here use Victoza? I might talk to my doctor about that one since I'm not happy with my FBS since I came off the Trulicity.

Life is so complicated these days.

My Daddy is doing great. He is cleaning his apartment (decluttering) and doing better than I am at cleaning it up. He is feeling good. I changed one of his meds and he has been doing great. He keeps his thyroid medicine in the bathroom to take as soon as he gets up. One day when I called the Cardio nurse at CHF clinic, she told me that one of his meds needs to be taken 1st thing in the morning as it has something to do with getting his heart started in the morning. So one day when I was there, I asked him if I put those pills in there next to his thyroid medicine could he take one of them with the thyroid med each morning. He now take one in the morning with the thyroid pill and I put the other dose in his evening pills. When we saw the PA at the CHF clinic, she told us he is doing really good and his heart function was now up to 50%. My sister told me later, I don't like his heart function at only 50%. I explained to her that was good as they never understood how my previous husband lived with his heart function at 20% and were thrilled when it went to a function of 25% a few months before he past away. I still don't understand all of it, but someone had explained to me back then that none of us have hearts that function at 100% so the fact that DH#2 heart was improving like that was a good thing.

Well, I need to get busy. I've decided that todays exercise is going to be house work. I need to sweep and mop my kitchen and hallway. Also need to do some decluttering myself.

fatmad All that movement while moving is really helping you. If DH & I worked as hard at keeping my house clean now that we're moved in, our bs would probably be normal. In all fairness though, Daddy got sick and he became our priority. Now that he is doing better, DH, DS and I need to get back to taking care of us or DD will outlive us all. LOL

Y'all have a good day.

I checked the book. I've got my carbs set at 35%, fat 35% and protein 30% on MFP and I did set my calories at 1800 per my doctor's recommendation although I plan to make that a rare UP on my calories. My plan is to keep my calories closer to 1200 to 1400 most days.

Although I don't have to keep up with the calories, I feel better counting them. The 35% carbs are to include dairy, fruits, veggies, legumes, breads and cereals. This is called A Moderately Low-carb diet. If you have 2 servings of milk, 2 servings of fruit, 3 serving of veggies and 4 servings of carbs from bread, cereal or legumes each day you would have 130 grams of carbs which she says is the minimum we need to eat for brain function and to prevent loss of lean tissue from our organs and muscle. It actually reminds me of the old WW plan and the Richard Simmons plan I did years ago with a few changes. The main change I see from those old diet plans is less starchy carb foods. Plus it also allows more fat preferable good fats.

This is just from reading highlights and I may read more to understand this better. I believe this is the way DH daughter ate when she was diabetic during her pregnancy.

I am going to follow this since it is very similar to what was recommended to me by my previous female doctor as well as the diabetic educator and nutritionist. We will see how things go.

Trish, I think we discussed that plan before and I think it was similar to what they gave me in the hospital when I was diagnosed. I lost well on it even after I came home, but either it was eventually too many carbs for my body or my portions gradually got larger. That's really what I think it was.

When they had me on that plan, they told me I should have 5 carb servings per meal, and they gave me 1 carb serving at bedtime. That's 240 gm of carb a day, and I really think that's too much. I would have terrible blood sugar and would gain weight from that for sure. Maybe it was supposed to be 3 servings per meal for women and 5 for men, but the sheet they gave me didn't say that. They counted milk and also veggies carb, though, so maybe that made the difference.

I did recently read somewhere that if you eat VLC you eventually become more carb resistant. In other words, if you eat VLC for a while then one day you eat something with carbs, your blood sugar will spike way more than normal. Maybe that's what's happening with me. Maybe I should be adding very small portions of carb into my meals, and really, I think I do that, because I often eat a bite of potato that I make for DH without having a full serving for myself. It's really bread products that give me the major problem.

Today I had a small piece of a submarine sandwich we bought from the volunteer firemen. I really wanted more, and half of it is still in the refrigerator but I'm hoping DH will finish it. If not, I can take the deli meat and cheese off it and throw the bread away. I made beef vegetable soup for dinner and I ate a lot of that. It contains barley, corn and lima beans, which are all starch, but I still consider it relatively low carb. My post prandial blood sugar was 135, and I just realized I forgot to take my Metformin, so I'm going to take it now.

I also bought a half loaf of Italian Bread to go with the soup because DH wanted it, but then he didn't even eat any. This is one of the things I think he does to sabotage me because he knows how much I love bread. But why would he do that when he knows what it does to my blood sugar?! I don't want to think that he's doing it on purpose, but what else am I to think? I really love that bread, but I have to stop this fooling around and make my health a priority. I am supposed to be in charge of this, and should just do it and stop blaming it on him. I always tell him I married him so I would have someone to blame things on. LOL LOL

So one more day left for the weekend for those who work. Every day is a weekend for us, Trish!!

Carol Sue I honestly think 240 g carbs would be way too much. I obviously have never eaten VLC long enough for a MLC plan to harm my bs. So I think I'll be okay. That is one reason I am using MFP as it helps me know how many carbs/calories I'm getting each day.

I thought I was doing good eating that soup yesterday. And I was in the bathroom several times during the night with potty issues. So I got on the scale this morning and I'm up 3 lbs. Sheesh! What is it going to take? I really don't think it was from sodium, because I don't salt my soup very much. And the veggies were from frozen instead of canned, so no sodium there. I don't get it.

Carol Sue Sorry about the gain. Sorry to say that I didn't keep the 211 I saw this past week. However, I am glad that I write down my weight daily. I learned to do that on CAD. I actually was upset this morning because I thought I had gained weight this week, but I actually lost 1.6 lb. That isn't as good as 6 lbs I saw during the week, but it is a loss. I would venture to say your gain is from the liquid not actual weight. Stay OP as I'm sure you will see it back off and maybe more loss in a day or two. Hang in there dear friend.

I was looking in this book again. I was looking to see how it counts carbs. I only have to count the carbs in bread, pasta, cereal, starchy veggies, chips, sugar or sweets. I don't have to count the carbs in fruit, vegetables or low-fat dairy foods. This way of counting make MLC so very easy to do.

I canceled my WW membership which will be in effect on December 1st. I checked what I eat by using MFP and WW pts on their site and just eating breakfast and lunch I had used up all my pts where as I still had lots of calories left on MFP. Using MFP I will see all my calories, carbs, protein, fat and sodium which I think with my daddy's health problems watching the sodium is important for me too. I noticed when I used WWSP, I was eating mostly processed foods which wasn't real food to save pts. Example, eggbeaters vs. eggs. I think real food is better. Eggbeaters were higher in sodium.

I had cereal this morning and used the carb counting way she uses in this book and had 1/2 c of flakes rather than a cup which came to 1 carb serving with 1/2 banana, 1/4 c of Greek yogurt and a 2 c coffee with Splenda in cereal and coffee as well as my h & h in the coffee. I only use 1 T h & h when I am home. I did learn that I need to cut my Whataburger taquito in half unless I want to count it as 2 carb servings that day since 26 to 35 g counts as 2 carb servings.

This is how she divides it 6 - 10 grams = 1/2 carb serving, 11 - 19 grams = 1 carb serving, 20 - 25 grams = 1 1/2 carb serving and 26 - 35 grams = 2 carb servings.

Right now I have planned through lunch with 945 calories and my carbs are 75 grams, but only 29 grams count toward my carbs for the day which comes to 2 carb servings leaving me 3 left for the day. This is not only doable it is so much easier. It helps me see how to eat in a way that I am getting my calcium etc that I think I need at my age.

Although I love salads, I get tired of them. I love soups especially when the weather gets cooler. I get tired of having to have a salad before a meal. Since I'm going to be eating this way instead of following CAD, I will start making some homemade soups with veggies so I can have some before a meal rather than a salad. I am measuring the starchy carbs that I eat so I can be sure I don't go over my 3 (45 grams) to 5 (75 grams) starchy carbs each day. I suddenly realized how I could adapt this to a modified form of CAD since I still think it is a good way to eat especially since 3 carb servings is the minimum. I couldn't understand how CAD worked because I was getting so many carbs from veggies and dairy in RM. Since those don't count in this way of eating, CAD would be a beautiful way to do this. I may still be able to do CAD. I will see how this works without it right now or I may use CAD when I eat out. I can eat just eggs and bacon or sausage no starchy carbs at Whataburger and save the 26 carbs from the taquito.

Sorry this is so long. Some of it is thinking while writing.

Have a blessed Sunday.

Trish, there's nothing wrong with thinking as you write. I do it too. It helps you clarify the way you feel. You are lucky that you can include those carbs without raising your blood sugar too high. I am going to try gradually adding small portions of carb into each meal in an effort to reduce my spikes. If my body gets used to those small portions it might not respond as harshly.

We went out for a late breakfast this morning and ended up eating too much, so neither of us was hungry for dinner. I think DH had a sandwich during the football game, and I made some chicken salad for me. Tomorrow I want to get back to smaller portions.

I didn't do really well today, but it was a day of learning what I can and cannot do with this new way of eating. I must stay with the 2 meals a day. I did the 3 because I could and I ended up eating way too much because I snacked tonight. Can't eat an evening meal even though I was allowed because it set me off to eat all evening. So tomorrow I will go back to just 2 meals.

One good thing about today that showed that I need the little bit of carb at breakfast was my bs reading before lunch was 107. I don't think I've had that low in a long time. Even my FBS was back down in the 150s. So this really work for me, I just have to adjust it to fit my lifestyle.

Tomorrow I will go back to eating the taquito at Whataburger.

Goodnight.

Done!

I am in a very positive mood today with lots of energy. I have some pain, but not as bad. I am going to try to only use the Tylenol Arthritis rather than the Motrin. I keep thinking about my cardiologist telling me not to take the Ibprofen, and I feel like I'm having heart symptoms. I don't know if I really am, or if I'm imagining it, but I'm going to stop taking it.

I took my Tylenol this morning when I got up and it's starting to kick in. I have a few things that need done around the house so I'm going to do them today while I'm feeling up to it.

This morning I was reading some things on what to eat to improve the condition of my arteries. Many of the things are things I like, so I will be conscious of including them in my diet. Like salmon, walnuts, oranges, low fat milk and oatmeal. I have some steel cut oats I bought and I am going to try them again. They are a big difference from the oatmeal I'm accustomed to, but I'm going to try to get used to them. I'm hoping that a small portion will not increase my blood sugar.

I'm glad to hear you are finding a WOE that is helpful to you. I hope it continues.

A quick flyby while I drink my before exercise coffee.

Carol Sue I'm glad your pain is better today. However, take good care of yourself if you are having feeling of something going on with your heart. Don't let it go too long. My mother's family had high cholesterol so she always ate oatmeal to keep it in check. I remember her saying she never thought about cancer. I try to eat to take care of both. Any way, I remember a doctor told her she had the heart of a teenager. I liked it when one of my mail RNs in the hospital told me I had the heart of a 18 yr old.

I too am feeling more positive today. Although I pulled my stunt with eating so much, my weight was down .2 of a lb and my FBS was only up 4 pts from yesterday. FBS was 158 today and was 154 yesterday. Normally it would have shot up in the 160s. I feel like this shows me that I've found the right way to eat. I think it is because the snacks had fiber not sugar except for the sugar in the nectarine I ate.

Got to get busy. Nice cool day. I want to ride the bike 20 minutes this morning before I leave. Going to shoot for 5 days this week. Meeting DD and DS at 10:45 at Whataburger. Will eat 1/2 tortilla and eat the eggs and bacon. I'm going to love MLC.
