  • I feel much better now that I took a hot shower and got dressed. That hot water felt so good and I stayed in there a long time and enjoyed the warmth. I am up 2.5 lbs. I'm not concerned or surprised. Before I would bounce up to 206 then back down to 203 and now I'm bouncing up to 203 and down to 200, so I consider that an improvement. I believe my next bounce down will be into Onederland again. Positive Outlook!

I can now make a fist with both hands and I have my supportive shoes on and it feels good on my foot.
  • fatmad You are doing very well with all you are going through with work, moving, physiotheray and up coming Holiday. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your time with you DD's and friends at the cottage. Those are successes you are building on.

Carol Sue I'm glad your pain is easing up. I agree the weather could be the problem. We had rain yesterday evening and it was a little cooler so that could be why my knees were hurting. I did 30 minutes on the bike yesterday and today and the pain went away this morning. I notice when I walk more or use the bike that the pain seems to leave.

DH daughter put on FB last night that they are saying that
Ibuprofen/NSAIDS causes us to be at risk of strokes and heart attacks after the age of 40. That is a shame because Ibuprofen is very effective in getting rid of pain. Tylenol doesn't help as much although it is better than nothing. Now that I know that about Ibuprofen, I will not be taking it any more.

My eating was not as great yesterday, but Barberine is working evidently. My FBS was 1 pt down from yesterday not up. That in itself is an improvement but I only gained .2 lb which is amazing since I'm not taking the fluid pill any more. Without trying, My bp was 109/61 without the Lisinopril. I am keeping sodium around 2000 mg or under most of the time. That being said, I like the protection of the Lisinopril and I am hoping that I might be able to take a 5 mg. DH will talk to the doctor about it for me at his next doctor's appointment since I don't see him again until January. My calories are staying around 1200 - 1300 calories most days and some times less. I have decided I don't mind losing slowly as long as I am losing. At age 74, I think slow would be better because of wrinkling. Slow and healthy is my goal these days.

We did end up getting a McD's because it was late and a quick thing and better choice than Chinese and Fried chicken. I told DH to be sure that I got a single double lber with no cheese. I get it that way and bring it home and add my on 2% cheese, tomato, onion and lettuce. DH gets medium order of fries and I eat 1/3 of it. My calories were great at that point, but I had some reduced fat Ritz crackers and they called my name and I answered. I won't be buying them any more. I can't bring certain kinds of crackers in the house because I want more than 1 serving. My daddy was shocked when I told him I was tired of fried chicken as that was always my weakness growing up. However, I told him no one made good fried chicken in SC so it wasn't something I ate a lot back then so that habit was broken. I don't want to get it started again.

Carol Sue I am like you. If I find I cannot leave something along until I've binged on it, I do not bring it in the house any more.

Didn't meet DD and DS this morning for breakfast. DS is at ER with her daughter. She has been sick a few days and I guess because she crossed the border into Mexico this past weekend, the doctor's office wouldn't touch her. They sent her to ER. We are waiting now for the results of the tests they are running on her praying it isn't related to the trip, but something simple.

I am switching to turkey bacon. I am going to try different brands until I find one I like. Bacon is just getting too expensive. I will get my bacon at Whataburger but not bring it home. I may end up just eating Canadian bacon. It is probably healthier any way.
  • Trish, I have decided that I just don't llke bacon because of the salt and am not going to eat it anymore. On the low carb sites they really push it because of LCHF, but I just don't like high fat and I'm not going to eat it to make someone else happy. I always used to like sausage better, but I don't like that anymore either. And I loved the breakfast sandwiches at McD for years. Now that I'm not eating the bread, eating just the egg and sausage doesn't appeal to me. It was the English Muffins and Biscuits that I loved so much, I guess. I only like home made scrambled eggs now. I was never so picky as I have become lately, but I think that's good.

I had a piece of cooked chicken breast I had frozen. I took it out to make chicken salad and it had an off taste to me so it's become dog food. LOL He loves chicken and I think chicken is good for dogs. In my former life, I would have eaten it even with the off taste. I think it was from being in the freezer.

My cardiologist has told me all along not to take Ibprofen. I told him Motrin works best for me for pain and he said it's ok if I take it occasionally, but not on a daily basis. It looks like I'm going to need something on a daily basis for this pain I'm having and I guess it's going to have to be the Tylenol Arthritis and Motrin just on the worst days. I wish he would give me Tylenol with Codeine but they don't like to hand out the narcotics anymore, even to people who need it.

Once I got moving around I felt much better. It has warmed up in the house and I'm getting a lot of cleaning done.

After dinner I want to go down and break in my new treadmill a bit. Usually once I start exercising I get into it and do more than planned.

I used to eat a lot of crackers. I love Ritz, Triscuits and I was buying those Fiber Select Wheat Thins until they quit making them. I used to eat crackers with cream cheese all the time. I had to stop buying them when I decided to lower my carbs because I could eat a whole sleeve of crackers in one sitting. DH gets Club Crackers, and I have one occasionally, but they don't appeal to me like the others.

Saying a prayer for your DS daughter, that whatever she has can be easily cured. It's scary to leave the country anymore.
  • ladies: I am wondering if your doctor has recommended you avoid aspirin. I know too much isn't good, but it is heart healthy. Maybe along with acetaminophen (Tylenol) it will help with the pain. I have DH take 1-2 tylenol with his ASA (aspirin).
Sadly, I am allergic so can't have it. Same if you have ulcer etc. do ask your doc if you can have it sometimes anyhow.

Went off plan today, so must get back to it tomorrow.
    Goodnight for now
  • Mad, I take a 325mg aspirin every day, prescribed by my cardiologist due to my past heart issues. It's only the Ibprofen he told me to avoid. Does your DH have pain? Is that why he takes the Tylenol? One time the dentist told me that Nsaids and Tylenol work differently and therefore can be taken together for pain, but I have never tested that theory. For pain, I either take one or the other. Ibprofen works a little better than the Tylenol Arthritis, and it is treating inflammation so I really think it's better, but since it increases the chance of strokes and heart attacks, I think I would rather have the foot pain.

Right now my foot pain is the most bothersome. I was reading on another forum of a woman who has the same issues and is waiting to see a foot doctor. By googling, she thinks hers is tendonitis, and I seem to think mine is too. Another woman chimed in and said she had the same thing and the doctor told her to use ice on it, elevate it, and try to stay off it. No walking. So today I am icing it. I do have to go out to the store, but after that I will try to stay off it. I have had issues with tendonitis every since I took that Cipro a few years ago. I will try home remedies before I seek medical attention. If I went to the doctor for every ache and pain I would be there at least once a week. Most times a home remedy helps and I go on with my life.

Once again I woke up hungry at 4 AM. I am a little more hungry this morning than I was yesterday morning. This might get me back to eating breakfast earlier. I am down to 202, so something is helping.
  • fatmad My doctor wants me to take 1 aspirin a day. I never did that when SC doc wanted me to do it because my grandmother bruised a lot with it. However, my new doctor thinks I should. I have been taking a baby aspirin a day. I think they are 81 mg. I got to thinking about my grandmother. Her daddy was a doctor. I remember how doctor jokes used to be "take 2 aspirins and call me in the morning". I decided that she probably took a lot more than 1 a day back then. I'm not sure they had much of anything else then. I took your advice and took 2 Tylenol and 1 regular aspirin last night before I went to bed. I will switch to the 1 aspirin with the Tylenol once a day at bed time instead of the baby aspirin as it worked great.

Since I stopped taking the Lisinopril and the mild fluid pill, and just taking the Tylenol (now + 1 aspirin) I sleep like all night long. I think I would have slept all the way through the night these past 2 nights if I hadn't woke up with leg cramps. I went to potty and went back to bed and slept well. I don't do well with Magnesium because of potty problems, but may have to try to take 1/2 of one to stop the leg cramps.

My eating was terrible last night too. I have got to stop this. I'm not sure exercising 30 minutes isn't making me hungry. Just got to get into a better routine. I'm going to try to tweak my carbs back some.

Carol Sue I hope the ice helps your foot. Glad your weight is going down.

My niece has e-coli, but it isn't in her bloodstream. Someone told her it was okay to drink the water in Mexico and she drank it. She went to some emergency clinic close to her when she first got sick and they told her she was having anxiety attack and sent her home. When she was sent to ER at the hospital by DS and my clinic, they found the problem. They sent her home telling her it will work it self out. I think she is to see someone else in a few days to be sure everything is okay. Thank God she didn't have whatever the disease is they worry about people getting when going out of the country. We have to sign a paper each time we go to the doctor stating that we have not traveled out of the country. I guess being a border state they have to stay on top of everything.

I finally know what caused the dizziness. It was taking 3 berberine instead of just 2. I don't take 3 when I eat just 2 meals. Since I was eating 3 meals yesterday, I took another one and although it wasn't quite as bad since I'm no longer taking bp medicine, I still experienced it. I am going back to the 2 meals and 2 berberine again today.

Got the plan now just have to stick with it. According to MFP, if I would stick to this within 5 weeks or so, I could be down close to where you are Carol Sue.

    Have a good day Ladies.
  • Yes, as long as it is ok for you to take aspirin, you can take it with tylenol.
I commonly prescribe tylenol with an NSAID, like aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen (Aleve) as the combination is safe as long as you stay within guidelines for daily dosages.
I think that if you are taking aspirin daily for heart health its fine to take a regular strength for pain, but do let your doctor or nurse practitioner know.
For now, the scientific community isn't sure why the other NSAIDs raise the risk of heart attack and stroke, when aspirin lowers the risk.
But aspirin can have other side effects. so balancing the risks of the meds with the problem of NOT taking them, (like having chronic pain that prevents your from being active, which raising your risks of other problems of course) is up to you with guidance from your caregiver.

    Have good night everyone
  • You just might pass me up, Trish, because I keep going up and down the same pounds. Don't lose it and maintain.

I asked my cardiologist why some people are to take the 81mg aspirin and others take the 325. he told me that those who can't handle the 325 they tell to take the 81. I don't know if I would take it if I hadn't had the heart surgery and a few stents. I didn't take it before then. I usually don't take things unless I absolutely have to. I am one who feels that the body should work properly, in which case we don't need supplements. And if it isn't working properly, we should find out why and fix it, rather than just take a pill. Having said that, I take a lot of pills! That's because I haven't figured out how to fix the things that are wrong. I think weight loss would go a long way toward fixing them, but that's a whole other story.

I take the coated aspirin that is supposed to protect your stomach. I buy Walmart brand but DH buys Ecotrin. That's what they told him to take 24 years ago when he had his heart attack. He doesn't go back for his check ups, but he still used the brand name aspirin.

I iced my foot 3 times today, and then most of the day I had a wrap on it for compression. It still hurts, but not as much. I had to go a lot of places today but I walked gently and not any more than I had to. I read online that it could take 6-8 weeks to fix a tendon problem. The test will be how it feels tomorrow morning.

When they ask me if I have been out of the country I tell them I can't even afford to go out of the state!

I am not hungry, but I want to eat something right now. I will ignore the craving and go to bed, hoping to be down another pound tomorrow.
  • We were cross posting, Mad. That's my problem right there, having chronic pain that keeps me from being active. It seemed to come on so suddenly. I wish it would go away suddenly, too.
  • I just read Dr Fung's most recent blog post. This explains why I was thin for years eating only breakfast and lunch, and no or very little dinner.

  • When I got up during the night my foot hurt so bad I could barely stand on it. I took the Tylenol and went back to bed and it's much much better, but I can feel it start to hurt from walking on it. I'm really going to try ice it and stay off it as much as I can. I can't do this much longer. I didn't realize how much I'm on my feet until this happened. I just started a new book, so I hope to be in my recliner with my feet up all day.

Still at 202. Guess I'll change my stats.
  • Foot was a little better overnight. I took the Tylenol around 2AM instead of waiting until it got so bad I could barely stand on it. I have been reading tons of stuff online about tendonitis. I am now realizing that I have been having this off and on for the past 20 years. It was in my foot one other time, but mostly in my elbows and forearms. I think I am just susceptible to it. It always took a good while to go away, but went away as mysteriously as it came. It wasn't so bad when it was in my arms because I could just take it easy using them, but when it's in your foot it's so much harder, because it's almost impossible to live with. We are always on our feet for one thing or another. I have stopped taking all supplements except D3 and Fish Oil, that was prescribed by the doctor. This last bout of tendonitis started around the same time I started taking the COQ10, and here is something I found online.

    Summary

Tendonitis is found among people who take Coq10, especially for people who are female, 60+ old also take medication Magnesium, and have Urinary tract infection. This review analyzes which people have Tendonitis with Coq10. It is created by eHealthMe based on reports of 5,223 people who have side effects when taking Coq10 from FDA , and is updated

So I am Female, 60+ years old and was also taking magnesium. No UTI that I know of. It said that out of 3K people, 5 got tendonitis. That is very low, but it's based on people who report side effects. Many might not have reported this, or even connected it to the COQ10.

I guess this is just my fate. I will continue to ice it, take the pain meds, and keep it elevated. I am also wearing a compression bandage I had from previous foot pain. Hopefully, it will be gone soon. There are people who have much worse conditions that this.

I am still doing well with no nighttime snacks. Not perfect, but much improved. Blood sugar is much better. Weight in a holding pattern.
  • I tried writing last night and lost it out in cyberspace somewhere.

Carol Sue Thanks for the article. Since I meet DD and DS for breakfast 3 days a week, I am going to try to start having just 2 meals a day. Not sure I'll make it but I would like to stop eating snacks at night. I just might have to go back to CAD to make this work. Not sure. CAD does allow me to have 2 meals and a snack. I just might could do that.

I didn't do really good this past week so going to try to do better this next week. I think I've cut back on fat too much. When you go low fat or fat free, you get a lot of sodium and I don't like that. I have about decided that it is best not to use too many diet foods. CAD does allow one meal where you can have regular food. I just have to watch the calories although they claim you don't. I think some of the most successful with CAD/CALP are the ones who count calories or WW pts.

I tried the Garcinia again and had the dizziness again when I got ready to go to bed last night. Only took 1 a day for 2 days. So that is out of here. I did start the Lisinopril again today. I only agreed with DH to go off of it for 1 week. Since the dizziness was caused by the Garcinia, I see no reason not to take the bp med. My bp went up to 129/78 which is safe, but I don't want come off of it unless it does make my bp go too low. I like the fact that it prevents risk of heart attack and stroke.

I did do the recumbent bike for 4 days this past week. 2 days I did 30 minutes. Weight was up 2 lbs from last Saturday, but if I can get back OP, it will come back down. FBS is about the same. It is better days after I exercise. I do try to be more active on the days I don't use the bike. Example when I go grocery shopping by myself, I can stretch the walking to about 45 minutes unless I'm in a big hurry and then I do more vigorous walk through. LOL

Carol Sue I hope you are feeling better. I didn't know that CQ10 causes pain.

fatmad Hope you are having a great Thanksgiving weekend with your family and friends.
  • Trish, most sites do not list tendonitis as a side effect of COQ10. In fact, it is known that statins can be the cause of muscle aches and pains because it blocks the body's COQ10, and supplemental CoQ10 is recommended to offset that. But I kept searching and searching because I knew this tendonitis started around the same time I started the COQ10. I once went to a Holistic doctor who said "Anything can cause anything." In other words, just because it is not a well known side effect, doesn't mean it can't be the cause. When I think back to all the times I've hand tendonitis over the years, I realize I am susceptible to it. I also read online that once you have tendonitis, it never fully goes away, and can easily come back. It is just so much worse when it's in the feet.

Yesterday we went to Walmart. I only needed 2 things, so I was in and out quickly, but when I came home, my feet were screaming. So I took Motrin. It is an anti inflammatory and I feel that that's what I need. It worked so much better than the Tylenol. So I am going to take it once a day if the pain is bad enough, and use the Tylenol in between if needed. I am just not in a position where I can sit with my feet propped up all day. I have things I have to do.

They say that you don't have to count anything if you stop eating once you are satisfied, but no matter what plan you are on, I feel it's necessary to be aware of how much food you are eating, whether it's calories or points or whatever you choose to count. Only those without any weight problem at all can eat indiscriminately.

I would love to cut out dinner like I used to, but that's not going to happen with DH, so the best I can do is eat a very small portion at dinner and consider it a snack. I did good with not snacking at bedtime until last night. DH had a bowl of cereal, so I did too. That was a big mistake. I went to bed right after that and I could feel the milk sloshing around in my stomach. And I felt like I needed to throw up. It was an awful feeling, and I got up and took a Rolaids. I hope I learned my lesson.

Trish, why don't you look to see if your Lisinopril is scored. If it is, you can take half instead of the whole thing. That way you would still get the protection from it but not run a chance of the blood pressure going too low. It's just a suggestion. It's always best to check with your doctor before doing that, but you already stopped it for a week on your own.

I am disappointed that I cannot walk on my treadmill yet. I think I might still do the bike, as I don't think that would aggravate my foot. I hate the thought that I bought this treadmill for nothing. I feel like such a complainer.
  • I am very please with the way my eating has changed lately. I was always the President and CEO of the Clean Plate Club. In my mind, whatever was served to me must be what I needed to eat so I always finished it all. That's how I got to the size I am today. Right now in my refrigerator I have a breakfast sandwich left over from McD's, a piece of fried fish from Friday, and now some meatballs and spaghetti from dinner today. I watched a show on TV where a woman was making spaghetti and meatballs and I wanted that for dinner, but DH did not. So we went out to eat and he got stuffed pork chop and I got Meatball Parm. They gave me 6 meatballs on a pile of spaghetti with a salad. I ate the salad and 2 meat balls and a few forkfuls of pasta. Satisfied, but not stuffed. This is an accomplishment for me and I am happy. I can eat meatballs for lunch the next 2 days. I feel that I ate like a normal person. The McDonald's breakfast sandwich is going down the disposal and probably the fish, too. I won't eat it now. I no longer feel guilty about the starving kids in China.
