Carol Sue You aren't complaining. Just sharing how you feel and we all do that here. Your pain seems to be something that just pops up and suddenly goes away from what you have said so I hope won't stay long and you will wake up one day and find it is gone.
It is good that you are beginning to see improvement in your eating. That is exciting. The lessons we learn about ourselves as we go along is good for us too. I actually had only one meal today. I have done that in the past... many, many years ago. I really had lost the confidence that I even had the ability to do it any more because I've gotten in the habit of 3 meals a day for so many years.
Today I called my daddy and said, "Daddy, I need you to do me a favor and release me from a promise I made you". I had promised him I would not eat only OMAD because he had a cousin who lived on OMAD most of his life and had to have most of his colon removed. I did tell him I wouldn't do it everyday, but I wanted to do it 2 or 3 days a week. He released me from the promise. I think that helped me to be free to do it today.
I will be meeting him and my sister tomorrow and I will do CAD's CM for breakfast and have RM (a carb meal) for our main meal. My plan is to do OMAD on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursdays and make the other 4 days 2 meals a day. I am excited that not only have I eaten only one meal today, but I am satisfied and not hungry for a snack. I want to read the book again on alternative day eating the one on 5:2. That just might work for me. However, I just don't think you could fast 2 days and then eat whatever you want the other 5 days. Knowing me, I might try to make up for the food I didn't eat on 2 fast days. I'll have to see.
I took the Lisinopril yesterday and to day. My bp was 116/68 today. I didn't see a slit on the 10 mg Lisinopril but I did go on line to see if it could be split in half and it says that it can be, but that I should talk to my doctor. I have no problem with the 10 as long as my bp stays in this area. I just don't want it going lower.
I got the Formulary from my Part D insurance and I will have to look for another company. They are not going to cover DH diabetic med Jardiance or Xarelto that DH is on. Lasix which he gets is going to a Tier 4. He could take Farxegia (Not sure of spelling) in place of the Jardiance as it works the same way. My sister takes it. They are not going to cover Trulicity any more so that is gone forever. I'm not sure if they have anything to use in place of Xarelto.
I looked up 5:2 diet online and I am not going to use it. I don't want to eat only 500 calories 2 days a week. I will just do CAD/CALP and still do OMAD for 3 days a week. The original CAD you were allowed to do OMAD so I will do the CAD way.

Trish, I am going to try to stop complaining about my pain. I'm just stressing myself out over it and that's not good either. If it continues too long I will go to the doctor. For now, I will just continue to take the pain meds when I need it and pray that they don't have a bad effect on me.
I have done OMAD occasionally, but not on purpose. It happens sometimes when I'm busy and/or in a situation where food is not readily available. I let hunger be my guide. Many times I get hungry but there's nothing around to eat, and then the hunger goes away.
Last night I was so hungry before bed. I think that was because I ate pasta for dinner. It is digested quickly and leaves you hungrier than if you had protein and fat. I ignored the hunger and just went to bed. When I got up this morning, the hunger was gone, and my FBG is 131. Better than usual. So what's the moral of that story? I don't know, but I feel so good knowing I did not give in and eat something. I need to break this habit. My weight is also down another lb, to 201.
I think there are a lot of people who have a problem with "eating whatever they want" after fast days. It should really be worded differently or explained differently. It should say "eat normally" or something like that. There are some who say that after a fast day, their appetite diminishes and they don't want as much food. So it depends on which type of person you are if such a plan works for you. We are all different, and have to find what works for each of us. Isn't that what we always say?
I just know that I did much better managing my weight on my own before I knew about all these different plans.
It would be great if your DH changed his eating habits toward more low carb and didn't need as many meds for his diabetes, or is that a pipe dream?

Carol Sue Congratulations on the 201 lbs. I believe you will soon be in Onederland.
You know, years ago when people would fast for any length of time, they would break their fasts with a very light meal or snack usually with veggies. They never ate a big meal after a fast and then slowly work up to eating more heavily type meals.
I'm not sure I can continue the OMAD nor should I as I don't know when to take my second berberine. Therefore I feel I need to eat breakfast each day in order to take my pill so I will be eating 2 meals a day. I will do my best to follow CAD and eat 1 CM breakfast and 1 RM each day. I was able to do it successfully today. I hope to continue with this plan. I will just take it One Day at a Time hoping to build up a long line of successful days. I believe the one day of fasting has helped give me a good start. Now to move forward to success. I've 2 successful days behind me and they say day 3 is the toughest. If I can through it successfully then perhaps I will be on my way to success.
I'm not counting calories or anything now. I think I'll do better without counting anything. I seem to be doing better without it just doing CAD.

This morning my FBG was 136. Good for me, but should be lower, I know. Yesterday, I ate my leftover spaghetti and meatballs from Sunday. Because of the pasta, I took my Glimiperide before eating, the prescribed dose. The pasta in Lasagna doesn't usually spike my blood sugar a lot, and apparently spaghetti doesn't either. I checked BS at 2 hours to see if I needed more meds and it was 71. That scared me. I didn't know if the meds were going to continue to work or not and if they did, I would have a low in the middle of the night, so I ate a meatball. Checked about an hour later and it was up to 115, and at bedtime, 120. This is why I want off the Glimiperide altogether, because it is so hard to judge...almost like injecting insulin. People on insulin have to know how much to inject for a certain amount of food. Maybe I should have checked an hour later to see if BG went down more before eating that meatball. I don't know.
Also, I did not get hungry last night after eating the pasta like I did on Sunday. Maybe I ate more yesterday. There was more on my plate and I finished it because I didn't want to save it for another day. This is another habit I need to break, along with the evening snacks. Throw it away rather than forcing it. I don't have to clean my plate.
When I was not allowed to eat for 6 days in the hospital, they broke my fast with clear broth and jello. The second day I was allowed cream soup and pudding, then the third day I was allowed a regular diet but with very small portions. Fasting is very big on the LC forums because of Dr Fung. But I don't feel that everyone doing it is doing it properly.
I think 2 meals is better for you than one, but that's your decision, completely. It doesn't have to be a big breakfast, and it doesn't have to be when you first get up. It could even be more of a snack.
Carol Sue I agree about the fasting days plus it seems to be something to do with low carb or extremely low calorie a few days. I am not sure that is the way to go. When I lost all that weight before I married DH, I was single and not a lot of money so I ate OMAD because that is what I could afford and I did very low carb. I did that for almost a year or more and by the time I met DH and married him, I had messed up my nervous system or something because I was dizzy sometimes and I could barely button my shirts and putting earring in was an impossibility so I quit wearing them until I met DH and he would put them in for me. It is amazing that he even married me with the shape I was in.
I never want to go back to that stage again. It took me a long time to get myself back to normal. And I wasn't on any medicine because I had no insurance so I learned to use vitamin supplements to treat myself. I had been working 3 jobs plus my volunteer work with the church and seeing after an invalid aunt at that time so exercise was never a problem except I was actually doing too much. I had lost my DH of 31 yrs and staying so busy kept me from having to think about it.
Once I married this Hubby, I went back to 2 meals a day which were low carb and lost weight eating healthier. When I got on Medicare, I was able to go to the doctor and found out my bs was up some and got on meds and started eating more of a diabetic type of 3 meals and snacks each day and I have battled with this ever since.
I think I have to go back to eating the way I did on my own by eating 2 meals a day. I've been doing the exercise the way Dr. Whitaker says on an empty stomach, but I think I do better exercising after my main meal because I seem to have more energy then to do it. That is usually when I am in the mood to clean etc. So I'm going back to that. My FBS has been in the 160s the past few days when they are usually in the 150s and was slowly coming back down. I'm not sure low carb is really right for me. My bs before I eat main meal has been in the 130s the past few days when I've been doing CAD. However, it might just be an adjustment period of getting back to semi-low carbing. I will do it a little longer and see what happens for me.
I am adding some good fat back into my diet because my hair is drying out from cutting the fat back too much. I think I will use the rule of the Low Carb for dummies book I read. I think I will allow myself 3 carby foods a day. She said 3 to 5 and I think if I allow myself more than 3 is probably when I get into trouble. But for now I am going to see how the 1CM and 1RM CAD way of eating pans out when I move my exercising to after the RM first. I am bad about changing when things seem to go the wrong way. However, my weight is coming down and I know that when my weight comes down the FBS is higher for a while. So I have until January to see the doctor again. I will continue CAD consistently for a month and decide if I want to stay on it longer after that. As long as the weight continues to come down, I believe the bs will follow eventually.
Sorry this is so long. I guess I'm thinking this out as I write.
Hope we all have a good day today.
Just checked FBS before eating breakfast and it was 137. Maybe I'm checking it too soon. I will start checking it just before I eat when home and not check on days I go meet DD and DS. Looks like CAD is working after all so I will continue using it.

Trish, I googled "fasting blood glucose" and it says it should be after at least 8 hours of no eating or drinking, and before any food or drink except water. So if you are not eating or drinking anything until you eat your first meal then that is still fasting, according to that. I get up and go to the bathroom. Then I let the dog out and turn on the coffee pot. While I'm waiting, I check my blood sugar and that's what I consider my fasting, because as soon as the coffee is done, I'm having some. LOL
I read up about exercising in a fasted state and I think it said it was because then your body would burn fat for the work out session, and not glucose. I don't feel good if I exercise on an empty stomach. I usually exercise an hour or so after breakfast/brunch. That's just me.
I am basically a morning person. That's when I have the most energy. After 5PM I am pretty much useless. I have eaten dinner, and I just feel sluggish. I don't do a lot in the evenings. It would be best for me if I would be more active and start burning off some of that food.
I think besides having financial difficulties, you also had a lot going on back then, and it took a toll on your body. When I lived alone, I paid all my bills, then whatever I had left was spent on other things, one of which was food. I didn't go hungry, but I didn't eat much either, and what I did eat was cheap food. I think that's when I started eating so many eggs. They were a real bargain. I am surprised I never got sick of them.
I have steaks defrosted for dinner tonight. I will probably have baked potatoes and brussels sprouts with it. I am trying to use up the food in my freezer.
I am using regular half & half in my coffee now and I made the best omelet with the frozen riced cauliflower and Pic Sweet frozen chopped celery, onion and pepper blend. I added regular bacon and 1/2 avocado with a touch of mozzarella cheese for taste added to it and it was delicious. That will be my brunch the days I eat at home.
We ate out. There is a place here the makes the best fish and shrimp. It is fried, but I'm not too fond of their sides. DH and I always share a plate and never finish it. We don't bring leftovers home because neither of us like cold fish and it isn't any good heated up. So we just ditch it. I did have a snack tonight of deli turkey meat and celery.
Not a great day, but not a bad one and within IF 8 hr rule.

My steak was good last night but DH said his was a little tough. I think these steaks I bought recently were too thick for us. DH likes his steak well done, not pink inside at all, and to cook a thick steak like that seems to make it tough. Mine was a little pink inside. I usually buy thin cut steaks so they don't take as long to cook.
I bought a bag of frozen cod fillets at Walmart. I tried 3 different ways to cook it but didn't like any of them so I won't buy it anymore. I like grilled fish but didn't like the cod grilled. I like cod breaded and fried, but don't like to make that at home. I can eat reheated fish if I have it later on the same day or the next day, but not longer than that. I have some in my refrigerator that is from Friday. Way too long!!! LOL
Maybe DH will want pizza today and I can cook some salmon for me. I love salmon, and it's a fatty fish. Very healthy.
I saved an article I saw that talked about low carb dieting and diabetes. It contains a lot of technical jargon that I don't understand so I will have to read it again. It seems that it's saying that diabetics should cut their protein consumption. So we shouldn't eat carbs, and we should eat less protein, which only leaves fat. I have heard that so much but don't understand what you eat to get enough fat. I think of meat containing fat, but that's protein. I can find a lot of articles that tell you to eat more fat, but they don't tell you what to eat. I know that certain things have fat, like avocado, nuts, butter, but how do you make a meal out of these things? Or do you just add them to your meals and eat less of everything else.? What do you order in a restaurant to make your meal high healthy fat? I see a lot of things online for making fat bombs, but most of them lean toward sweets and desserts. I want real food. Today I am going to the library for the book Eat Fat Get Thin by Dr. Hyman. I have seen him on Public Television, and I want to see if his book tells you what to eat. I will post any interesting tidbits I learn.
I know I sometimes get gerd from eating too much fat, but I think that happens when I have too much unhealthy fat, like greasy bacon and sausage. Yuk. I just don't like them anymore.

I read the article over a couple times, and what I'm getting from it is that although protein does not raise blood sugar, it raises insulin levels. We need some, but less than most people are eating. I have always eaten a lot of protein, thinking I was doing the right thing by staying away from carbs, but too much protein isn't the best choice, either. So I will cut back to much smaller portions, and I guess I will increase non-starchy veggies to help fill me up. I love chicken. I'm going to miss it. LOL
Carol Sue I don't eat a lot of protein any more because I learned that when I low carbed, I noticed that my bs always went up. I eat whatever protein I want, but I eat a normal serving instead of a lot like most low carbers eat.
I couldn't sleep last night. In fact, I never even slept at all. However, I had a whoosh this morning of a 4 lb loss so I'm back down to 211.2. I just hope I keep it.
Eating 2 meals a day seems to be working. I'm eating what I want but not overeating and I seem to stay satisfied so far. I ate just eggs and bacon at Whataburger and then made chili and a salad for our regular meal. So far, I haven't needed a salad. I'm hoping this will continue to be the norm for me.

Yesterday I picked up my new prescription of Glimiperide and they gave me pills by a different manufacturer. They are smaller than the ones I usually get, and that makes them harder to cut into 4th. I am not quite ready to have my doctor prescribe a lower dose, so I will have to cut them the best I can until I reach that point. There are still some occasions when I need the full dose. I forgot to ask them about pill bottles that have caps that are not child proof. I can open the ones I get from mail order, but these from CVS are impossible for me. I have no need to have child-proof caps. I never thought it would be me saying this. LOL
My night time eating has been diminishing. I think it has been easier to gradually stop rather than trying to go cold turkey. It still enters my mind that I want scrambled eggs, but I can quickly stop that thought. After I went to bed I was thinking about those pretzels. I know we have a new bag in the cupboard, but since they are not open, I won't eat any. Once they are open, all bets are off. LOL
One of these days I will realize that I don't even think about evening snacks.
This morning I got up at 6 and my FBG was 143. I went back to bed and when I got up at 8 it was 201. I did not eat or drink anything after I got up the first time, just went to the bathroom. So I don't know what that was about.
Good for you on the 4 lb whoosh! Don't you just love that? I have some nights that I don't sleep also. I slept well last night though, because I'm still taking the Tylenol Arthritis.
I will make sure to eat breakfast this morning because we have to take our car to the dealership and wait for it, and I don't want to be getting into the donuts they always have there. I like eggs much better, anyway.
Carol Sue I will never understand exactly how FBS works. I got up today and my FBS was 131 which means that my reading just before our main meal should have been really low since I've been having readings around 116 to 118 after FBS readings in 160s. Instead the bs reading before main meal was 125 today. How does that happen?
I slept most of the day yesterday. I really slept well last night because I took 1 Benadryl before I went to bed. I could have slept longer but I have to get up early tomorrow to go to the beauty shop and I want to sleep tonight without taking anything except the Tylenol and aspirin. Amazingly, I haven't napped today.
My eating has been good. I'm going to try not to have a protein snack tonight. I think I just might try eating a taquito tomorrow for breakfast and see what happens with my bs reading before main meal tomorrow. As long as it doesn't mess me up with my eating only 2 meals a day, I don't mind eating a slice of toast or low carb tortilla. However, I really enjoy the way I'm eating right now. I don't want to do anything to trip up the progress I've made this week.

I was in Target again today and stopped at the pharmacy to ask about the child proof caps. The tech told me she could put a note in my file that I am not to have those caps. She said they have both but use the safety caps unless the patient requests the other. The only child I ever have in my home is my grandson and I think he is now old enough to know not to open my pill bottles.
I keep reading about FBG because I don't understand it either. I know that the liver releases glucose when the body thinks there isn't enough and that that process can sometimes be faulty in a diabetic. Metformin is supposed to stop that from happening, I believe. I don't know if Berberine does that also.
Hi everyone, just checking in.
I am back to under 172 after my Thanksgiving weekend that included some wine and treats. I feel I can be successful at maintaining, and this is a lower weight. but still want to get down further, so will continue trying. I am only going to go with mini-goals for the time being.
For me thats getting under 170, and not gaining over the longer term. ( as opposed to normal fluctuations and occasional gains after an up day or weekend). I have a long term goal (140) in mind, but it may take a long time (if ever) to get there.
The moving is sure keeping me active.
