Trish, are you doing the 1/3 plate and having a big salad with the RM? I think the only way that plan is feasable is if you choose to have 1 small carb portion just so you don't feel deprived, and don't try to add too many carbs. It can't be a choice of "having all my carbs at one meal." It has to be EITHER this, OR that. If you recall, Rachel Heller started that plan accidentally when she was only able to have one meal a day. The 2 CMs were added just because most people can't go all day and only have one meal. You could probably make it work, but just do it differently than you have been. Or go back to spreading your carbs throughout the day. You have to be happy with your WOE. You won't stick to it otherwise.

My FBG was 167 this morning. I'm not too upset about it because my readings all through the day are much lower and I still feel that I'm doing good with this. I was getting FBG over 200 most of the time before. I did finish off the pretzels last night and hope to not buy any more. DH likes them, but he only eat a few at a time. I cannot moderate with them.

I haven't been cooking lately. It seems that DH doesn't really like anything, and I don't either. I used to cook roasts, meatloaf, pork and sauerkraut, and none of them appeals to me anymore. Also, I end up with so much leftover and DH won't eat leftovers. I can't be eating all of them. All that appeals to me now is steak or chicken, and salads when we eat out. For years I didn't eat steak because of red meat being so bad for us. The casino buffet changed all that. They cook small portions of steak and I've been eating them and enjoying them, so now I cook it more at home. I buy thin cut steaks at Walmart and they are 3 in a package for $12. Those small steaks are just right for us. We get rotisserie chickens at the local supermarket and they are good. Theirs are better than Walmart's. $6.99, and we both eat and have leftovers which I use for chicken salad or to cut up in a greens salad.

DH and I went to bed at our regular time but neither of us could fall asleep. I know it was around 2 AM and we were both still awake. I usually fall asleep easily but not last night. So I will be tired all day.

Carol Sue No I do the original CAD plan, but then the difference in the way I do it now and back when I lost all that weight on it before, I only ate OMAD back then. I have 1 carby food plus milk is a carb and so is the fruit I eat. So I agree with you that it is better for me to spread the carbs out throughout the day. Besides now that we know about how GL works, I see no reason to avoid them all day. I think it is best to just not eat so much of it at one time. It is still a good plan, but just not good for me. I think I will go back to some form of IF. Perhaps the 16:8 ratio.

I got up around 5:15 this morning and took Zantac for my stomach. I decided to check my FBG at 5:23 and learned that my FBG is lower then that it is when I get up later. It was 145 at 5:23am, but was 162 when I got up later. Even the 162 was a good sign that bs is coming down, however, I do not plan to get up every morning at 5ish to check it. I probably won't check it every morning when I get up later. I will check the readings during the day a few times at a time.

DD didn't feel like getting out so I bought breakfast and took it over there for us to have breakfast together. Enjoyed being with DD. He cried as he prayed thanking God I was home this year for my birthday although we aren't doing anything special. It is just too hot to get out in the afternoon. DH and I have to get out tomorrow afternoon so DH can go check DD toe and rewrap it since he does it better than I do. I want the doc to see it when we take DD for his 3 month check up. We have to go to Sam's Club afterwards. I don't plan to be out in the heat all that long.

I don't know about you Carol Sue but the heat has just stripped my hunger from me. I cooked a roast chicken one day and pork roast yesterday and I'm done. I have no desire for anything else. I know DH likes home made pizza so I'm making that for lunch with a salad.

Hope you get some rest today.

That's great to hear! Since you used to work in a pharmacy, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the best form of CoQ10 to take. I take a water and fat-soluble form for better absorption.

Carol Sue Are you able to take the garcinia cambogia? Are you planning to try it? I don't remember you saying and I wasn't sure if you could take it because I'm not sure what meds you are on.

DH read or heard somewhere that if you take a statin that you need to double up on the CoQ10 so he has taken 2 pills instead of 1 ever since then. We really don't like him taking statins because I still believe this is why he has experience diabetes which is one of the side effects of taking them.

I am back on CAD today. I think I need the structure of eating carby food only once a day. I had 2 eggs with bacon and greens this morning for my CM breakfast. I will have to do that when I eat breakfast at Whataburger when I meet DD and DS. I can sub a sausage patty for the bacon for a change when eating with them. I've been hungry for a pork roast so I have one in a crockpot today for main meal. I have some left over chicken I home roasted in the air-fryer the other day so I going to make a chicken salad for my dinner tonight.

My weight is up a little because of the carby foods I ate the past 2 days, but my FBS was down a bit. I think I will check my FBS for the rest of this week and then I plan to just check it ever once in a while. My doc said I don't have to check it everyday so I will start saving my strips. However, I will continue to check before main meal each day. As long as I'm getting those readings below 120 before main meal, I know my bs is still doing well. Following CAD along with exercise 3 or 4 days a week will help me to keep bs readings coming down.

I am getting a few surges of energy although not as much as I want. I am beginning to see things I need to do around my house and find myself actually doing something about it instead of just thinking "I sure do need to clean that up". Hopefully as I get more OP the energy will stay with me longer.

fatmad You are in my thoughts as you are working so hard to get things ready to put your house on the market.

Y'all have a great day.
Thanks for the welcome! I've been a lurker for awhile, but wanted to finally jump into the conversation.

Hi Kate. I did not work as a pharmacist, but as a tech, so I cannot really recommend one form of CoQ10 over the other. There's a lot of information online that says one is preferable to the other, and others say it doesn't matter.

Do you have diabetes? Why don't you tell us more about yourself, and chime right in on the conversations.

Trish, I feel the way you do about when you check FBG. It's going to be what it's going to be. Checking it at 5AM is not going to change the fact that it's a little higher at 8 or 9. I want to break my habit of eating a snack at bedtime but haven't succeeded with that yet. LOL I think that might make a difference in my fasting. In the hospital, they gave me a snack, but at cardiac rehab the nurse told me not to eat a snack unless I'm hungry. I don't know who to believe, so I just want to do whatever works best for me. I think the bedtime snack habit has not been a good one for me.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a CAD day mixed in with more balanced days. I think if you eat the same every day your body adapts to that and it slows your weight loss. So many people do calorie cycling and carb cycling and it works well for them. We don't have to be so rigid.

It's supposed to cool down here in the next week. I am in air condition so much so I don't notice the heat. We get a lot of humidity here in PA, and our temps have been in the 80's but with high humidity. I don't think you have much humidity there, do you?

I don't do much cooking when we have the air condition on because it just makes the air condition work harder. We have been eating quick things and take out. Today I bought the ingredients to make lasagna. DH likes that and I haven't made it for a while. SIL likes getting the leftovers to take for his lunch, too. And I want to make some pulled pork, too. I found a recipe for pulled pork that has a low carb sauce, so I want to try that.

Trish, is today your actual birthday? Happy Birthday. My step-daughter and her husband are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary today. DH has a hard time accepting that his baby girl has been married that long, and that his son is 51 years old. Time sure flies. When I met DH his kids were 8 and 10. LOL

DH just went to bed, so I guess it's time for me too.

Carol Sue Yes, yesterday was my actual birthday. We didn't do anything except that DS and I went to DD for breakfast. I got Whataburger breakfast and went over there. It was just too hot to get out again yesterday afternoon to go eat.

DH and I are going to DD this afternoon for DH to change the bandage on his toe. It was healing nicely ad hope it is almost healed today. DD is giving us a list and DH and I are going to Sam's today and get groceries for us and for DD. I will take DD stuff to him in the morning when we go for his primary doctor's appointment unless DH decides we need to take it to him this evening. I'm going to do DD meds for next week today so I don't have to do them tomorrow. DH has surgery in 2 weeks so my DS will have to do the meds that week or I will have to back it up a day or two.

DS told me this morning that her artificial knee is giving her problems like it is going out on her. We hope it is just a fluke. We surely don't need her down right now with all that is going on bless her heart.

Carol Sue, when I was in the hospital they didn't give me snacks at all. I guess I could have had them if I had asked, but I figure it wasn't part of the diet plan since it was not offered. I really didn't feel like snacks then any way. It was nice not having them readily available.

Well, I haven't done much good with an exercise plan this week, but then I've been very active going to DD and I spent Monday cleaning up his kitchen when we went for DH to clean and re-bandage his toe and he always has a load of trash for me to take out to the dumpster. I told him he is either the dirtiest or cleanest man... I'm not sure which. He reminds me of my deceased hubby's grandmother when he cooks. I swear that woman used every pot and pan she had when she cooked. Took me forever to clean up her kitchen and DD is the same way. No real excuse for not doing formal exercise, but by the time I clean his apartment, go to the store and walk around, I don't feel like cooking, cleaning or exercising when I get home.

Right now I have no interest in food or diets. I am taking the Garcinia Cambogia and mostly following IF/IE. Don't know how that is going to work for me, but with all that is happening, it is all I feel like doing right now. DH has his 1st cataract surgery in 2 weeks and September is going to be wild with all of DD appointments along with it. Life goes on. I refuse to complain. I'm just thankful that I have those I still have in my life and that I am here to be a part of it. I think the activity is good for me in the long run.

Y'all have a great day.

Hi Carolr! I guess DD can be either one, just like SIL can be sister-in-law or son-in-law.

Trish, I hope you get a chance to slow down and take a deep breath. You sure have a lot going on, unlike me. If I was any more laid back I'd be comatose.

I am making lasagna today and plan on having a salad with it. For some reason, the meat and cheese in lasagna seems to cancel out the carbs from the noodles.

Of course! I don't have diabetes, but am low carb for BG regulation. I am an avid reader of a variety of diabetes forms - especially those related to diet.

Kind of a high FBG this morning. Oh, well, nobody's perfect. LOL I cannot figure why it's high, unless it's a delayed response to the pasta in the lasagna. I was full after dinner and did not eat anything in the evening. My SIL isn't working this week so he doesn't want the leftover lasagna. He usually takes it for his lunch. I hate to throw food away...maybe I'll scrape out the filling and eat that for lunch. I don't need any more noodles.

Kate, the way I understand it, if you are not diabetic, your body automatically regulates blood glucose properly. Low Carb is good for insulin regulation, and preventing it from leading to insulin resistance.

So, where are you from? Married? Children? Working?

Carol Sue DD didn't go with us to Sam's yesterday and he didn't want us to shop for him and take it over to him. He decided he would drive himself to the doctor's office this morning and since he would be out he would go shopping at Walmart afterwards. So we went to his apartment for DH to put a fresh bandage on his tow and I did the meds then. We were able to go eat at a fish place on the way to Sam's and then come straight home.

DS and I met him at the doctor's office. DD asked the doctor if he was going to feel like this and be in pain the rest of his life. Doc said "No" to the pain as they could give him cortisone shots for his shoulder and exercises to do for that. However, he did tell him tiredness is part of CHF. Daddy asked him about the no mask for sleep apnea. DD has chlastrophobia and wasn't able to do the sleep apnea test years ago because he couldn't wear the mask. Doc told DD that having sleep apnea would contribute to his heart problems. He is setting him up for a sleep apnea test and he will be able to use something different than the mask. DH thought I had sleep apnea at one time, but he says he doesn't think so any more. I told him if he ever thought I had it that I would definitely take the test.

He checked DD toe and said it looked good and just put a band aid on it so I will let him do the same.

I was able to go by Drug Emporium and get a few things I needed today and then I came straight home. I was back home before 11 am. I turned on some Christian music and just enjoyed my quite time doing not much of anything. I'm getting a perm tomorrow at noon rather than my usual 10am appointment so I am going to enjoy the time.

Carol Sue My FBS was a little lower this morning because I checked earlier than usual and it was a little lower when I got home before I ate. I don't really know what make it go up or down. It is still a mystery to me.

Still not sure if I want to follow an actual diet plan or not. I am tired of meat so I plan to only do protein once a day. I like fruit but I find I don't like eating a lot of it in a day so 1 or 2 serving works for me. I'm thinking about eating more veggies.

My son and his wife will be impacted in some way by Hurricane Harvey as they live between Houston and Galveston. Don't know if they will be directly affected, but it looks like if it hits south of them that it will then turn east and go over them as well as her Mom who lives about an hours drive north of there. Galveston is way over due one and of course I pray they don't get a direct hit this time either although they have had a lot of damage from all the rain and wind of those which have been close. I pray everyone who is the path of that thing will be safe.

Trish, I have done the sleep study twice and I hate it. I hate it, because I don't feel as though I sleep at all with all those wires hooked up to me. They told me I did sleep but not much. I use a nasal mask, which is a lot smaller than a full face mask, but I think the full face mask is better. I never even tried it. I got the choice to have the nasal mask from day 1 so that's what i use. It does take some time to get used to it, but I think if you really need it you will do what it takes to get used to it because you get better sleep. DH wants me to try that thing that goes in your mouth, instead. I think you get it from a dentist.

I hope your family is safe from the hurricane. We usually just get a lot of rain from the aftermath. The one time they had that hurricane that damaged New Orleans we got a lot of rain, and afterwards we had sand in our driveway! It much have brought the sand up with it.
