p.a. it's good that you are getting some small portions of fruit into your diet. I am not much of a fruit lover, but I know I should have a few small portions.
Liliann, right now you shouldn't worry about the A1c. If you keep your daily glucose readings in line your A1c should be much better next time the doctor checks it. Some people say that 2 hours after a meal your blood sugar should not go over 140. Others say not over 180. It's important for you to check it to see if it's higher. If it is, something you ate at that meal spiked your blood sugar and it's important to identify that food as one for you to avoid. A very large meal will also spike your blood sugar, even if it's all healthy food. I hope your doctor puts you in touch with a nutritionist who can tell you how and what you should be eating. It's hard to grasp all this when you are first diagnosed. We have talked before and I remember that you are a caregiver for family members. That can be stressful for you, but you also have to take care of yourself. |
Liliann Why is it taking you so long to get your diabetic meds? Can you get it from some other pharmacy?
I agree with Carol Sue that besides seeing a nutritionist, you should do a lot of online research on diabetes. I've learned a whole lot on line. Also she uses her local library to check out and read books on the subject. The first doctor I had who diagnosed me said to me "Here's the diet I'm supposed to give you from the ADA, but you will figure out what works best for you". I did and kept my diabetes under control for a good 15 yrs. So it can be done. As my doc told me a few years ago, any diet will work if it is something you can live with. Here is a website that has different recipes for making the Bulletproof coffee. I use coconut oil in mine, but may have to change that. It seems that CO causes diarrhea issues for me. I take Metformin and the 2 together causes havoc on my system. I noticed they recommend butter. I can't afford the range free products so I just use what I have. https://www.bulletproofexec.com/bull...coffee-recipe/ Thank God my FBS is finally coming back down. Not near where I want it, but it is coming down. It has really been difficult getting it back down after using the Januvia. I'm riding out the reactions to the Metformin. I can go 2 or 3 days without any problems now and then wham it hits me so still not sure what it is. I may have to give up the dairy for a while to see if that stops it. My doctor said it could cause the problem. [BJLUS, p.a. and Carol Sue ][/B] |
Trish, I was thinking about how our blood sugar seems to get higher when we take certain meds. I'm thinking that psychologically we start to realize that we can eat more carb when we're on those meds. If we would just keep our carb levels where they should be we wouldn't need them. My blood sugar has been coming down too, and I'm finding I don't need the glimiperide as much. I want off that med so badly.
I haven't had any bowel problems in a while and I never figured out what was causing mine. My blood pressure is improving nicely on the new meds, too. I don't notice a different. They say that high blood pressure really doesn't have symptoms. The first couple weeks on the new meds I was getting headaches. I never got headaches previously. I read that it's a common side effect and would go away after a while and it has. Liliann, I was wondering how you're doing. I hope you can get things straightened out at the pharmacy and get on some meds. Even without them, I think watching your diet should help. If you can't get to a nutritionist, I think if you keep your starchy carbs low, sweets, bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, and your vegetables high, eat lean protein, there should be some improvement in your blood sugar. And try to go for a walk every day, preferably after your biggest meal of the day. Just get your body moving. It doesn't have to be strenuous exercise. |
Hi sweet ladies!
Finally back after several weeks ice cream eating. Boy do I feel like crap. FBS was 197 this morning. Say what? Enough of this. I'm back on the wagon. Off to find me some celery. Cindy out. WTG Patty and Carol! Lillian, Stay on the narrow road for now. Just knowing your A1c is that high will be highly motivating for you. When you're able to resume fruit, keep in mind that grapes and bananas are high sugar fruits, citrus is medium sugar, and berries, apples and melons are low sugar fruits. My body reacts to a banana like it's a candy bar. Focus on what you CAN have. |
Cindy, I am so glad you popped back in here. This thread used to be busier but many people have dropped off. It helps when more people come her so we can have more varied discussions and suggestions that might help each other. We are all having the same struggle.
Isn't it something when a food (such as ice cream) just seems to jump in and take over your life? We all have that happen from time to time and it gets so discouraging when the blood sugar shoots up. I think if we learn that we can have a small portion and then put it back in the freezer, knowing it will be there when we want some again. Or, do like I do, stop for a single serve occasionally, eat it, then it's gone, instead of keeping it in the house where it can call my name. It's best if we can avoid it altogether, but that tends to cause us to feel deprived and can make the cravings worse. I agree that we should focus on what we can have. DH and I used to like to share a pizza, but I can't do that anymore, unless I pull off the cheese and toppings and mix it into a salad, which I do from time to time. But when he gets a pizza, I can order wings, and while not the healthiest choice, they don't spike my blood sugar. I can still have something I enjoy. |
Hi everybody!
I agree with you Carol, taking in some extra fat by occasionally eating wings is a low priority issue compared with the importance for us to avoid extra carbs. I saw my shrink today and explained to her my diabetic issues and my tendency to rationalize, and interestingly, she encouraged me to view it like alcoholism, with no gray, only black and white. No sugar, 90 grams of carbs, end of discussion. It made sense to me, because there is a fair amount of alcoholism in my family. I feel very settled about it. Onward and upward! Uh, I mean downward (in weight). |
Cindy That is interesting as that is what my doctor told me. He said 90 grams of carbs a day was good. Maybe I should think that way. Just got it in my head that I should be eating less. Maybe if I did what he said this would be much easier.
|
Hiya all..checking in...I am getting great ideas from you all. I agree with watercolor about up carbs. I am keeping,or trying to stay 100 carbs.so far so good. My fbs is 109, I see my medical doctor visit in Feb and blood test in January. Am walking plenty and my home scale is moving down!! No meds yet..and sure do not know what is going on..Thank you all..I will keep in touch!! :)
|
Cindy, I liked the analogy of considering diabetes like alcoholism. Alcoholics can't just have one drink on a special occasion and go back to sobriety the next day. I think of that when others offer me foods I should not be eating, such as sweets, and say "One piece won't hurt you." They would not feel that way about offering a drink to an alcoholic. When that happens I don't use diabetes as an excuse. I just say I don't care for any, or I'm not hungry. That way it's not open for discussion. It really surprises me that my daughter-in-law does that to me, as her father has diabetes and she wouldn't consider doing that to him.
Liliann, your FBS is not too bad at 109. Are you checking 2 hours after meals also? That will tell you if you ate something you shouldn't. I think your blood work will show good results! Keep up the good work! |
Carol
Removing options is really helpful to me because I tend to rationalize my way to some very unhealthy places. Now I'm thinking that I may need to avoid other foods that I know I binge on. (Cheese comes to mind.) Liliann Congrats on your hard work! Isn't it encouraging to see results? Pattygirl I hear ya! Sometimes I used to do everything BUT what I was told. It feels childlike to just do what I'm told, but if it works, I'm there. |
Watercolor My problem with doing a low carb that is lower than 40 to 45 carbs is that I end up eating too much of allowed foods. I think using MFP would help me to stop that. Plus I evidently need to watch the sodium intake and it watches that for me as well.
Since I am struggling to stay on any plan, I started up MFP again. I've been gaining and my BP is a little higher and my FBS is not coming down and staying down like it should. I am not sneaking any of DH glimiperide and refuse to. I am determined to do this with diet and exercise. I know it can be done and I am determined to do this although I know it won't be easy during the holiday, but it still can work. I put in the percentages of protein, carbs and fats on 1500 calories and low carb. I decided to take my doctors advice working to keep them around 90 grams which I think was either 20 or 25%. I am doing the 20 minutes a day 5 days a week instead of the 15 every day on my recumbent bike. So I'm still doing low carb, but doing it along with low calorie as well. Now to stay committed as I go through the holidays. Right now I'm just taking it one day at a time working toward more OP days than 0ff ones hoping that it will become a way of life for me. Somewhere I read or heard someone say practice, practice, practice until it becomes second nature. I also noticed on MFP that I'm not getting enough fiber. So I'm intend to work on that as well. I've always done really well during holidays, but this year seems to really be a struggle. |
It sounds as if everyone is doing well and I'm glad. We all want to stay on track and get through the holidays without a gain. I haven't been on the scale the past few days because I don't weigh if I feel that I've gained. My FBG goes down for a day or two then goes back up. I have been too busy to exercise, as now is when I start my Christmas baking and will be doing that until Christmas. Luckily I'm not a sweet eater so I bake the cookies and then they go into the freezer. I have decided to make more of the ones I know my family likes and forget about the others that I usually bake to make a festive looking cookie tray. I end up throwing some of those away. Every year I say I'm not going to bake and every year I do it anyway. I know that cookies are not healthy but my family would be disappointed if I didn't bake them. And I only do it around Christmas.
|
Where have I been for a week? Not here obviously,,,,,sorry didn't mean to run away. Just the busy season. You know we will all be running back after the holidays and everyone gets back on track .
I will try to check in again |
p.a. everyone gets busy this time of year. I really hate when this thread gets slow because we really need to be here to motivate each other, but we have to do what we have to do!
Trish, I wish I could get back to tracking my food, etc. For about 6 months before my surgery I tracked everything every day. My weight, BS, BP food and exercise. I did it faithfully. I recorded it in a little notebook and then entered it online every few days. Then one day in my notebook it says "In the hospital" and I have never been able to get back to it regularly again. It really does help me, and it's best if I enter my food plan before I eat rather than afterwards, because I can adjust if the results don't look good. That was when my lab work was the best ever. Cindy, I like cheese too, but I only like it by itself, cut up like little appetizers but not on other food, such as cheese sauces or on sandwiches. I know that's weird. Lillian, I'm wondering how you're doing with your new food plan. Are you getting good results? Did you get to start your meds yet? We all have to keep at this. Our diabetes isn't going anywhere, but it can be controlled. |
A quick flyby. FBS was high today, but I was not surprised. We had to leave at midnight to take DGS to airport. He is back in FL with his parents for the holiday. Came home and wasn't sleepy but tired and ate and took Metformin around 1:45 am. Didn't sleep but about 5 hrs. I ate within my calories, but was not wise to eat that late for me. Funny thing is while the FBS was up the weight was down a tad. So go figure.:dizzy:
Carol Sue I've decided through the holidays I'm just going to enjoy what I eat and count calories. No food is going to be off limit... just eat within the calories and as lose to the percentages I planned and to keep up the exercise of 20 minutes 5 days and keep a 6th day on bike optional. I am so busy on Saturday walking stores that I get a lot of steps (I don't count) in plus I do extra house work on Saturday. Just getting through till January 1 with no gain and hopefully a little bit of a loss is my goal. |
Hi healthy and all... I am still CCing, and watch carbs ..keeping carbs 200 or less. No injection, my insurance will not pay..so that leaves me with diet and exercise. My scales at home are out of commisson..so I will be weighing in at my doctor office .they allowed me..whew!! Week one..My first weigh in, -6 am pleased. ...My sugar readings each morning is slowly going down..sometimes is up.when I eat cheesecake. I will keep in touch often.. :)
|
Liliane - Why are you using 200 carbs per day?
|
Jlus..no reason..I just keep carbs 200 or less.
|
Liliann, good for you on the 6 lb loss. I see you are walking to the doctor's office to get weighed. That's a great idea and it's good that you are in walking distance. It's good exercise. It's really hard to cut carbs. I imagine that 200 per day is way less than you were normally eating before, and if that doesn't seem to work for you, you can gradually cut lower. All carbs are not bad for you. Vegetables have carbs, but they also have fiber and the carbs are good carbs. The bad ones are the starchy carbs, sugar, white flour, rice, potatoes and pasta. You will see how you're doing when you get your blood work done in January and have another visit with your doctor. Maybe he can put you on something else rather than the injection, and maybe you can see a nutritionist and have them go over your diet with you.
Trish, I notice that my BS seems to go up a little when my weight comes down. It's strange, but I think it's just temporary and I think as I lose more my BS will improve. I sure hope so. |
Liliann Congrats on the 6 lb loss. Walking is great exercise. Wish I could do that, but my back won't take it. That is why I do the recumbent bike.
Carol Sue Right now during the holidays I'm just concentrating on calories not worrying too much about the carbs or anything else. I've decided to work at losing weight because I know that when the weight comes down so will the BS. Right now the weight is coming down and I'm eating more food. I am surprised but the weight is inching down some time only .2 of a lb, but as long as it moving downward that is all I care about. After listening to some of the Weigh Down (didn't watch all 12 videos) and reading Thin for Life book, I'm trying to listen to my body so that I eat only when hungry. Not great at this yet, but practice makes perfect so I'm practicing until it takes hold. I'm working at making new ""good" eating habits. I believe when it becomes a habit then it will stick as a lifestyle. All the other things I've tried so far hasn't worked so just maybe this will. You know, I thought about the first time I was diagnosed with diabetes. My doctor handed me the ADA diet and said "This is the diet I'm supposed to give you, but you will figure it out on your own". Then he said, "They are saying now to cut out some fat". I asked him how much you can safely cut back and he said "They don't know yet". I went home and went on a lowfat diet on my own. I didn't count calories, I just took most of the fat out of my diet. I actually cooked a complete Thanksgiving lowfat dinner including desserts for 35 people that year. No one knew the difference and loved it. Also I started exercising 45 minutes a day and in less than 2 weeks, I was off diabetic meds. I lost weight and did great keeping off for a few years until I got off the diet and went back to my old habits. So I've done it with lowfat and with low carb so what my doc says is true that any diet will work as long as it is something you can live with. So my plan is to get through the holidays hopefully without a gain. We do not do anything special for New Year so I'll be able to get back on a plan as soon as Christmas is over. I honestly believe the lowfat/calorie counting using MFP is so much easier to do. So I am going to switch to that after Christmas. I've decided I like the idea of losing slow and steady because I believe it will be easier to eventually reach my goal with the idea of making it a lifestyle. I believe that will make it much easier to maintain when I reach goal. |
Trish, I agree that doing what works for you is best. Something that you can stick with for life. Although most of the low carb advocates say eating high fat helps, someone told me recently that diabetics should not eat high fat. So I read up on it and it said that fat causes problems for diabetics in the way their bodies handle it. I have never been able to eat high fat. It just doesn't taste good to me, and a lot of fat gives me acid reflux. So I just eat regular food, neither low fat or high fat, but somewhere in the middle. I cut the fat off my meat, but I don't go out of my way to eat low fat cheeses or things like that.
I think when you are first diagnosed with diabetes you can get it under control quickly, but after you have been diabetic for several years it becomes harder to control. I have to eat a lot fewer carbs than I did when I was first diagnosed. I am too busy now getting ready for Christmas. I will have to get back to exercise after Christmas. The only exercise I am getting is running around the stores LOL |
Hiya all...:) just a check in..like the rest of us,doing shopping..want to wish a happy holidays..to everyone. I will be on plan..for Xmas.My weigh in Will be on Wednesday and what my medical doctor told me to avoid is all starchy carbs, rice, pasta, breads, rolls, potatoes,,all sweets. But this week been cheating on cheesecake :( I need to get back on my whey protein shakes and .not calorie counting,it reminds me so much on foods, and I cheat..no no. This weekend and till Xmas..Will use whey shakes 3 meals a day, coffee in between.
Happy shopping and stay safe!! :) |
Liliann, I can't do shakes because it feels like I'm drinking a milk shake, and then I want food with it, like a burger. I have a hard time considering a shake a meal. I want to eat something I can chew. But if the shakes help you stay on plan then they are a great idea for you! I know several people who do the shakes and are very successful with them. You always need to do what works for you. I hope you do well with your next weigh-in. You did great losing 6 lbs the first week, and it might slow down after that, but any loss is good, and it's much better than gaining.
I try to avoid starchy carbs and if I was by myself I would do better at it, but my DH likes carbs and there are always around to tempt me. I hope everyone else, Trish, Cindy and p.a are doing well, as well as any lurkers who might be reading. |
Checking in to say I'm still here. Kitchen sink stopped up and plumber who was supposed to be here after 4:30 Friday hasn't shown up yet. Supposed to come Sunday afternoon. They claimed they called and no one answered but it doesn't show on my phone. I told DH if they don't show up tomorrow we would cancel them and call someone else. Makes me angry for someone to say they are going to do something and not do it and then lie about it. DH says they were not apologetic or friendly. I am not sure I want to deal with them. Makes me think they are not honest.
Carol Sue I think combining moderately low carb and calorie counting together is probably going to be the way I will go after Christmas day. I've been reading about why we need protein, fat and certain carbs. They all have their place in our diets, but I have the same problems with too much fat as well as too much protein. I get gerd with both if I eat too much of it. Using MFP I also see that I am eating too much sodium. And I just read that I may not be eating enough potassium. Maybe the sodium/potassium isn't balanced. I've been eating off this past week and what little exercise I'm getting is probably the reason I'm not gaining. In fact, the scale has been inching down v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y, but I'll take it as it is better than gaining. I've just about eaten all the holiday foods I wanted to eat this holiday and will be eating more sensibly from now until Christmas day. I already have planned what I want to eat on the 25th and then on Dec 26, I'll get right back On Plan. We were invited to my friends for Christmas dinner, but it is supposed to be raining all day so we are going to opt out. I will probably make that a CAD type day and just have an off meal at lunch and get right back On Plan the rest of the day forward. That is how I did last few years and it worked out great. Hopefully I can do the same thing this year. All my Christmas shopping is done. I did most of it on Amazon. We will go Wednesday and get whatever food we decide we are going to eat Christmas day. We just got an email that DH DD has sent us Omaha steaks for Christmas to be delivered Tuesday. I would cook one of those for Christmas, but it is a tradition to take DH out for steak for his birthday dinner at Texas Roadhouse on the 23rd. I figure it will be too crowded to take him on his birthday so we will go the day before his birthday. I would like have a smoke turkey if I can find one and if I can talk DH into one. It would be nice to have the left overs for some OP meals afterwards. Y'all have a safe and Merry Christmas/Holiday. |
I love CCing!!!! I had set a personal challenge with food journal for 30 days by January 9 ...I am doing great, not perfect..counting calories and carbs is good plan for me. My fbs is getting down, today, this morning is 100.. :)
Happy Christmas all. Stay healthy  later.. |
Lilliann, there are those that say you don't have to do perfect. If you stay on plan 80% of the time, that's great. Everyone slips off every once in a while. The key is to kept it to every once in a while, and get right back on plan after that. Sounds like your BG is improving. Good job!
Trish, I'm happy to be continuing to stay in Onederland, although I would like more of a drop, but this is good considering the holidays. I don't eat holiday food except on Christmas Day. I usually bake a ham but DH and I didn't want all the salt this year so I bought an extra small turkey around Thanksgiving and have it in the freezer. I will make both a turkey and a ham as his kids like to have the ham. There will be plenty of food for everyone. I will make a big bowl of potato salad and some pasta salad without italian dressing as my step-son cannot eat mayo. I will make other things as sides and snack food, some dips and spreads for vegetables and crackers. I am not having a sit-down dinner, just eat what you want when you want, as people will be in and out throughout the day. A casual Christmas. I hope you get your sink fixed. |
Carol Sue I'm glad you are staying in Onderland. :carrot: You are doing great with the baking you are doing. I think we will all see better results when we get through the holiday.
Using MFP to get the carb/fat/protein percentages set, I believe that I've gotten my plan tweaked to fit the my own low carb plan. Can't get exact so it is approximate. I am pretty sure a lot of my problem is sodium. I did eat oat meal for breakfast, but since I learned what clogged the sink and the cost of having unclogged, I'm not sure about eating any type of food that swells/expanse is wise. So not sure I will keep it. Maybe there is a reason they say no grains. It cost $331.00 to learn that the noodles DGS puts down the garbage disposal (and maybe left over rice I put in there) was why sink was clogged. WOW. He told DH that noodles are one of the worst things you can put down the garbage disposal because it swells and hardens and clogs the pipes. He had to cut a piece of the pipe out where it was clogged and replace the pipe. My beautician had already told me the day before that rice and cabbage will clog it too. This makes me wonder if this stuff does that to my sewer pipes what does it do to me? Maybe that is why it isn't wise to eat it. Also makes me wonder about the rice I was down the garbage disposal too. DH and I don't eat pasta any more unless we go to Olive Garden, however we do put leftover rice down the sink when I bring home Chinese food because we just don't eat much of it. So I'm not sure I will be cooking it any more myself. I don't know if the non-flour pastas or brown rice does the same thing or not as I didn't talk to the plumber. DH did. However, this does make me re-think low carb... perhaps this is why low carb is so much better. Hum:?: It certainly makes sense to me as to why we should be more careful when it comes to eating simple carbs. Changed my ticker to fit where I am. While I did lose 1.2 lbs this past week and I'm thankful for that... no fanfare as this is all recycle lbs which I shouldn't be having to deal with. I have upped my time on the bike to 27 minutes so I can do 3 miles instead of 2. That will be good for my FBS. I'm planning ahead and cooking to add more veggies to my plan. MFP counts them so the carbs look higher, but I don't worry about that. |
Trish, I put everything down my garbage disposal and I have never had a clogged sink in 34 years we've lived here. I do know that when you run the garbage disposal you supposed to run the water for a minute or so after your turn off the disposal, to wash everything down. I can see if getting clogged if someone put it down the drain, but not with a disposal. I don't understand. We are on our 3rd disposal. I have had things go down that aren't supposed to be in there, like bones, and sometimes a knife or spoon goes down by accident and I think it breaks the blades.
I guess that's why they call starchy foods "stick to the ribs." It really does stick. I went for my blood work this morning, now I wish I had waited a little longer. I know it's not going to be good and will be better after I get back to exercising after the new year. But I think I am going to need an increase in my glimiperide even though I don't want to. I have been taking an extra one here and there and am going to run out before my refill is due. I know that I don't have to take it every time if I get my blood sugar down some, but it will be good to have it if necessary. I really want to get off it altogether. I say that, but I keep eating bread. ;) Other than increasing my meds, I want him to send me for an endoscopy. I know I have a hiatal hernia, but now my nephew has cancer of the esophagus that has spread to his liver and he is terminal according to the doctors. That has me worried about my esophagus. Better to get it checked. |
Trish, I googled and found exactly what you said.
http://food.thefuntimesguide.com/201..._disposals.php Even though I read this I will continue to do as I've always done, putting these things down my garbage disposal but will be sure to run LOTS of cold water before and after since I never had a clog. Like they said, I will put small amounts through at a time. Sometimes I used to run hot water thinking it would melt the fat, but they say cold water solidifies it making it easier for the disposal to chop it up. I also put some baking soda and an ice cube down there once in a while as I heard that cleans it out and helps get rid of any odor. I cannot put food in my trash, as when we put it out for the garbage man, animals smell the food and tear the trash apart. |
Carol Sue Thanks for the website. I'm surprised at some of the things it says not to put in the disposal. I don't always use cold water and didn't know to let the water run for a while after turning disposal off. Strange thing is that with some of the things it says not to put in there makes me wonder why have one. I mean really. I know it is difficult to get DGS to even run the disposal so I am going to try to get a copy of this to tack up in the kitchen for him and me to remember.
I always take things that cannot be put down the disposal and put it in a plastic grocery store bag and place it in the freezer. Then on trash day I put it in the trash to be picked up. Guess I haven't been doing it enough. I never put bones down mine. DH replaced the garbage disposal that came with the house with a really good one and it should be able to handle bones, but DH didn't think it was wise to put them through it so I don't. Guess I will have to change the way I do it. I am so sorry to hear about your nephew. I will be praying for him and your family. Well, I'm not really OP these days. Holding my weight about the same. I think when all this is over, I'm going to do South Beach. My best friends daughter wants to do it and I told her maybe she and I could do it with her. I don't go for cutting the fat back as much as SBD does, but I won't worry about that too much. I think I'm going to need the structure. I'll need it to get away from this desire for sweets I seem to have developed. |
Trish, if a bone goes into my garbage disposal, it's accidentally. I don't put them in there on purpose. If I have chicken bones I put them in a plastic bag and put them up on the wooded hill behind our house. Some critters must eat them, because DH will go up to get the bag a few days later and it's empty. We get a lot of deer, raccoons, groundhogs up on that hill.
DH has a habit of pushing something down the garbage disposal but not running it, coffee grounds, egg shells. So several times a day I run the water and and disposal to be sure it gets cleared out. If you dump in some baking soda then follow with some vinegar, it bubbles up and cleans it out. I think so, anyway. |
Merry Christmas everyone,,,,,
Heading to my dds for a few days then I will be back! Thank you for all your support here and I hope your holiday is everything you want it to be. |
p.a. Have a great time with your DD and have a safe trip.
Carol Sue Thanks for the baking soda and vinegar idea. It can't hurt and it definitely will keep the disposal smelling good. I use baking soda in my fridge to keep from having bad smells in it and actually I need to put some in my fridge now. I lose track of when I changed it last. |
Trish, wait til you hear this. My company left and DH and I were cleaning up and the water pipe broke under my kitchen sink and water went all over the floor. DH cleaned up all the water and looked at the pike and says it's clogged!! He says he's not calling a plumber, he's fixing it himself tomorrow. We'll see. I guess it's a trip to the hardware store tomorrow and an all day job fixing the pipe. I was cleaning up as we went through the evening so there's not a lot left to clean, but I hate not being able to clean up.
|
Last night I had trouble sleeping. I woke up around 2 AM and couldn't go back to sleep. I tossed and turned and I know I was still awake around 5 AM. Next thing I knew it was 11 AM. I can't believe I slept that long but I feel much better. When I got up, DH had the clog fixed and now he's putting it all back together. It was probably a combination of a small clog and the fact that he just installed that garbage disposal recently and might not have had the pipes sealed properly. I could never tell him that, though. LOL I'm just glad it's fixed and I will be able to clean up the rest of my dishes.
Other than that, our Christmas was great! |
Carol Sue I am so sorry your sink clogged especially when you needed to clean up. You don't realize how much you use the kitchen sinck until you can't use it. I'm glad DH was able to fix yours and you have it back without calling a plumber.
DH and I have just been taking it easy and enjoying not having anyone in our house but the 2 of us. DGS comes back on the 9th of next month. I'm sure he is really going to be wound up when he returns because he can't drive down there because no one has a car that he can have to drive especially at night. We talked to his Mom Christmas eve and learned that he does them like he does us. You say anything he doesn't like when discussing his plans etc and he will walk out of the room because he doesn't want to hear it. I've gotten to where I won't answer him when he asks or tries to talk to me about some things because I know he doesn't "really" want to know m opinion. So why waste my time. He graduates in May and we hope to move soon after. So I am going to try to keep things as good as I can. My eating went very well. I am thinking in terms of kind of a SBD/CAD/IF combination. We will see how it goes. I haven't gained weight. In fact, I'm hoping for a little bit of a loss WI Monday. Can't believe we are so close to ending 2015. I sure hope 2016 is going to be a good year. |
Trish, the more I think about our sink mishap the more I think the pipe was not clogged, but that DH didn't properly tighten the joints on the pipes when he installed the new disposal, because it seemed that he started to check "the clog" and it was clear in a matter of minutes. If it was really a clog it would have taken longer to clear it. We have had clogs in the bathroom sink because when he shaves he rinses the hair down the sink. For that, he had to buy a snake to clear it. Didn't need anything but a hose for the kitchen. He would never admit that he didn't tighten the pipes tight enough. I'm glad it's fixed. I haven't had to use the disposal since then and I'm a little afraid to use it. We did have a lot of stuff to put down it Christmas night.
Your DGS sound like a typical teen/young adult. They always know better that us "old folks." LOL You and DH and really doing him a big favor letting him live there while he finishes school. Yesterday my step-daughter came and took the rest of the leftovers. I had half a ham left, potato salad, pasta salad, bean dip, rye bread and buns. Her husband is a really big eater and they will finish all that off easily. I didn't want to throw it out. There were also dozens of cookies. I kept enough for DH of the ones he likes. I was not perfect, but I'm glad I didn't gain over Christmas. I want to keep myself on track. I didn't want to gain pounds that I would have to lose all over again in 2016. Starting off with a new slate. |
Carol Sue I didn't gain any weight either. I am right with my ticker this morning so I decided to start back OP. I had my bullet coffee this morning with the whey powder for breakfast. We didn't go to church this morning, but we still plan to have our Sunday breakfast for lunch today.
I found CAD group on FB and I've decided to do CAD. I like the freedom of the original CAD book. There is a lady on there who has gotten out of the 300s doing CAD. She explained how she did it. If you look it up, read Allie/Oriana conversation on there. That is pretty much the way I did CAD successfully at one time, but felt I was doing it wrong and stopped. Since I know I am not a VLC person, I believe I can do CAD with no problem. Good job getting rid of the leftovers. I have a few things that I'm going to ditch myself. Mainly the sweets. Even DH FBS is up and he takes a lot of meds to keep it where it is. Have a blessed day. |
Trish, I hope CAD works for you and you are able to still keep your BG down. I have a dilemma right now as I looked at my blood-work from the last 2 times and noticed that my BUN/Creatinine ratio was a little high both times. I don't think he checked that this time so it won't be on the report I get from him to compare. But that indicates a problem with kidney function, and from what I read online I should be watching my protein intake. So I have to cut protein for my kidneys, cut carbs for my blood sugar, and there's not a whole lot left to eat. LOL My doctor didn't mention it, probably because it was just slightly high, but when my glucose was slightly high he didn't mention it either and I would have been better off if he did. Maybe it wouldn't have become full blown diabetes. I might be one of these people who has to eat just salads and vegetables in order to be healthy. Sometimes I wish I didn't know so much and just eat whatever I feel like and not care.

Carol Sue I guess I'm not doing true CAD because I'm eating 2 carb meals instead of one. I think the idea of eating carbs and calling it a Reward Meal is a problem for me. I think that would make me want a reward all the time. The girl that has gotten under 300 lbs says there are days she has 2 RM and she still calls it CAD. So I consider myself doing a CAD type plan, but not actually CAD.
My FBS is still too high, but I'm going for weight loss right now. I've worked at getting the FBS corrected 1st, but now I believe that when I get back to the regular exercise again and get weight below 200 lbs that the blood sugar will come down and take care of itself. I'm beginning to think that maybe I've been working at this the wrong way... maybe backwards. I was so surprised that my WI today was down 2.4 lbs this week. I will soon be out of the 230s. I read once that women have to be careful getting too much protein. I know that if I eat too much I get tired of it. So I'm working at a more balanced way of eating. I think you can low carb and eat a little more veggies and a little less protein. I think both are important but I'm not sure we need loads of protein. I personally think we know what to do and now we are tweaking. I've just about got my plan exactly like I want it. Have a good day. |
