Cool

Hi, all. Wet fog here. My bgl was 163 this a.m. Bad eating. A combination of boredom and stress. Sigh.
Rosey - good to see you posting. Sorry about your fall, that's scary, but glad you are alright.
Ruth - temptation is always with us and sometimes we have to give in. Tomorrow is another day, I always say.

I just wanted to stop in and share my fantastic news I received at my check up today. My hard work over the past couple months to control my diabetes with a better diet and exercise actually paid off......DUH. My A1c today was 6.6!!!!!! That is the lowest it has ever been. I almost cried. My doctor, who I've had a love/hate relationship with, was very pleased. It was the best visit I have had in a long time. I am still on Cloud 9. Now I just need to keep it up. That is the key.

Hello everyone! I have been AWOL, I know but I have been having alot of stuff going on, most of it good. But something happened, because even though in one place it said I was subscribed to the thread, another said I wasn't. I wasn't paying attention that I hadn't heard any chatter from you ladies until yesterday. Hopefully, it's all good now.

For a lot of the summer I have had a revolving door with kids in and out and out of the 5 weeks I only had all three of them here together for one week. What happy chaos! The big guys are back to school since July 12th, and in 10 days the little one starts back. She says she is just about bored enough to want to go back and start 5th grade. The uniforms should be here the day before school starts.

The last 2 weeks we have been moving. The boys helped DH move the bigger furniture while they were home. I wish I was moving out of town--it's much easier than just a few blocks. We are about in now, just deciding what few other things we can fit in this little place. Then the REAL job will begin--getting the big monster house emptied and repaired to sell. Can't build the new house til the monster is sold. The big question/repair/expense will be getting gear mechanisms to replace in the crank-casement windows. If we can't get the right replacements for those, all of the windows will have to be replaced (like 35 -40 windows) We have a lot of stuff to store after 17 yrs in that house! The dog and Emily have had the toughest time adjusting to the new place. Poor dog--he had been boarded for vacation, and then when we picked him up, we took him to the new place. He didn't know what was going on, and for 5 days we couldn't get him in his cage where he goes while we are gone. And the HOWLING when we left. He's better now. Emily has days that she doesn't want to go, get her stuff, even go over to the big house, and other days, she wants to go and help pack up. School will be a help, I think--back to a familiar routine.

Well, I'll have to catch up with you tomorrow. I need to get to be so I can go on call at 7am. Have a good Sunday everyone!

Kathy

Good for you, girl and

Did you find the forums for pregnant chicks? Bet they will be supportive, too.
What a great time for you to try to be your healthiest. My boys were both fine back then (I was very good on my diet), but now I am Type 2. So far, I am diet controlled. I just realized that you are just a little older than my oldest son--He was 23 2 weeks ago.

Well, Good Morning all! I had a yucky day on call, dragged out the cases all 12 hours. Missed a beautiful summer day being inside.

I have been nursing a nasty cellulitis. What is up with that lately? This is the 2nd time since November, and 7 times since February with the "pink eye", which seems to flare up whenever I get a tendonitis or bursitis in my hip on that numb leg. Sheeesh Last time, the cellulitis started with the bug bites, but this time it was a whack on the bed corner, but it didn't break the skin and the bruise I got was several inches away. Any Ideas, Ladies?

Great news, StormKitty! keep going!

Have a lazy day with my daughter today, so I think I will go and be lazy some more. Everyone have a lovely Monday.

How's Meowee?

Good morning, Chickies. I've not been around much as I am in the middle of chaos! I am having a studio built onto the side of my house and the construction folk have been in and out a lot. I was smart enough to put the doggage in the kennel for the week which has eased things a bit.

No official word from Meowee as yet - she is waiting once again for test results.

Yesterday I finally realized how important it is to eat regularly to keep my BS even. I got involved with things and skipped lunch. I sure bottomed out mid-afternoon. I was as close to passing out as I've ever been in my 70 years! Some OJ and a small cheese sandwich fixed me up but it was scary! Today will be better with regular meals no matter what is happening.

Enjoy your day - it's a gift!

HI RUTH (and every one else here) ~ hope MEOWEE is feeling better soon; everyone misses her, including all of us over on the Physical Challenge's thread too. Thanks for pinch-hitting for her; I know she appreciates it. I have been doing really well keeping my blood sugar levels in check; do have to eat regular though. They are keeping pretty steady in the high 4's and low 5's; very, very happy about that. If they go up even slightly, I take a look to see what I ate the day before and make some modifications.

Hope everyone here has a great week; and take good care ... ROSEBUD

Hello All!

I hope everyone summer is just as lovely as can be. I haven't been here in awhile and I can tell what it's done for me. I've had quit the challenge of being good! With summer comes a lot of dining out and craziness! My AM BS have been high. I have not been eating as great as I could be AND more importantly I have NOT been exercising (regular). I need a kick in the butt!

How do you ladies get back into a groove?

Moni, I guess the best thing is to get your eating back on track first. Then maybe it will motivate you to try a new exercise routine. I am in that mode. I have to re-think and re-do my exercising with this move--I don't have a place in this little house to exercise. I am trying to plan to test the new ideas starting next week when Emily goes back to school and I'll also have more time to go back to water aerobics, and then tap classes will start again in 2 more weeks. I generally don't worry about my exercise in the summer because vacation for us is not laying on the beach. So I generally get plenty of exercise in, and because we are eating out, I tend to eat less and lose on vacation. But getting the diet back on track is always what trips me up.

Hope everyone had a good day. I had to sing at a funeral this morning, but then I was at school helping get the class lists reset in the computer lab all afternoon. That is a big chore with 20 classrooms to do. I am keeping out of trouble for the next week because I will be to busy! DH has been watching the Harry Potter movies with Emily so that they can go see the new one as the "last hurrah" before school starts.

Everyone have a great Thursday.

Hi Folks,

I have been MIA. I got married about 7 weeks ago and the before and after changes have kept me really occupied. I decided to join a diabetes support group. It meets twice a month and is comprised of woman 45+ with Type 2; I think it will be a good addition to my arsenal to fight this disease. I will keep you posted on how it goes.

The good news is that the last time I went to my doctor for my diabetes check, she didn't even measure my A1C because she felt she didn't need to since it had been in range for a couple of years (6.1-6.5) Yippee! Sometimes I think my hard work is for noting but this was a giant reward. Hope all is well with everyone. DCM

Mini, welcome back. Believe me, I know how hard it is to formally exercise. My WATP tape is still sitting in the player.

Kathy, it sounds as if you have an active summer. It's interesting to hear you say you eat less when eating out. The opposite applies to me, I'm afraid.

Great news, Active! Be sure to let us know any hints you hear.

Checking in. It's very hectic around here with an addition being built - just a room and bathroom. They guys are here for coffee and muffins daily but I have resisted. BGL has been running a bit high though - maybe stress? It may be because my dogs are in the kennel - they are always such a relaxing delight and I miss them.
Food id OK although I am really fighting hard to resist corn! So far I've had only one cob.

Well, Ruth, we don't eat a lot of fast food as a rule when we travel because it makes me sick sometimes, maybe because we try not to as a rule at home. Besides, it's a lot more fun to try new foods in new places. So, that makes me paranoid to eat too much if we are eating out everyday. I am so much better remembering to decide which bad carbs I want--a roll and potatoes or dessert! Usually it depends on what kind of vegies they have also. It's easier if they have ones I like then I double up and have dessert. Mexico is usually the hardest--I can't tolerate the peppers that are too hot, and I cannot eat the cactus, so I'll eat the rice and beans or tortilla instead of the fried ice cream! Wish I could remember that when I am home.

I was looking at the thread about the fitness videos, and I think I will join up there to help me keep on track. New month, new attitude, time to start. I had to get some DVD's because most of my old VHS won't play on the new VCR (or won't track, or something). Got the 5 Day Slim Down which I hadn't seen before, and for a good cause, I got the Pilates for Pink Workout--$1 goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and it comes with a pink resistance band. Have 2 dance ones that I brought from the big house the last time I was there, so I shouldn't be bored for a little bit. Mix and match could be a lot of fun. Maybe I will take a basket, fill it with choices and pick out a 10 minute Solution type of thing to go with a mile walk everyday. I need fun, which is why I like water aerobics and tap dancing. "surprise, you chose this today" may be just enough fun to keep me motivated.

Well, back to school--I had to come home at lunch to let in the pest control guy at the new place. We had a bad problem at the big house with ants, but this one seems to be spider central. See you later!

Tiff--how are you doing? Gotta keep track of our new Momma!

FBS 104
Hello everyone, I have been so busy trying to finish a quilt and a new baby outfit that is all completed and on its way to my grandbaby Beatrice Margaret who is now 3 months old.
I am doing well and my first A1c check was 6.5. My doctor is beyond happy with me and wish his other patients could do so well.
I have a question as usual. What diets are you on to lose weight. I can't complain right now. I have lost 22 lbs since being diagnosed May 15th of this year. I am on the ADA 1500 calorie diet now and have completely stopped loosing any weight. I also exercise with Leslie Sansone DVD's, I am doing the 4 mile ones and a couples days a week I add the 5 mile one. I break it up with some weight lifting and just do the treadmill. I do this 5 days a week. Never felt better for sure.

I just want to know what you all are doing. I need to get down to 140.

Thanks for your help and many good help and blessing to you all.

Hi Melanie. I love making baby quilts, especially for grandbabies! Unfortunately my two kids are through producing kids so I need to wait for great grandbabies!

It sounds like you are doing everything right to control your diabetes! 22 pounds in 2½ months is excellent - up to 2 pounds a week is the most one should lose safely.

I am following The South Beach plan and know it works - I seem to make a lot of detours and really do not have an exercise program although the WATP tape is sitting in the player.

This afternoon I am off to Ottawa for a birthday bash which will be a real test - potato salad, pasta salad, corn and birthday cake are on the menu! I will limit my corn to one cob, eat only my own bean salad and see if I can share the cake with one of their dogs. (Labs are my friend at parties!)

July was a very bad month for me with visitors, the Fair, parties and general confusion with construction so I did not lose an ounce. August MUST be better. I may re-establish my ticker with a new goal on Monday and get my focus back to reality!

Evening all Hope you had a great weekend. I had a much better call night saturday and got almost 11 hours of sleep. I was pretty whipped from friday. School is just around the corner, we had a back to school social this afternoon. I have been trying Chromium after reading about it in an article, and I am very pleased at what it is doing for me. I didn't see much the first 2weeks taking 200 mg, but the 3rd week I went up to 300 mg and then I noticed there was some change. I hadn't noticed that it was making me eat less, but I have been eating an afternoon snack less often. AM blood sugars are now averaging 92mg/dl instead of 98, and evenings 95-100 instead of 98-105. Hey, I'll take 5 less average points anyday. I made one of those Slimfast shakes for dinner with frozen pineapple, and was it yummy--had a big lunch and was hungry for something sweet and cold. Read about an interesting marinade for beef or pork: 1 can of Dr Pepper, regular or diet, and 1 lb of meat in a ziploc bag 6 to 10 hours in the fridge. When ready to grill or broil, add your seasonings and cook as usual. My boys tried it and said it was good. See you ladies tomorrow. Kathy
