Jumping around a bit this week on weight. I feel constipated (sry for the overshare). After my tea, I’ll buy some groceries and start cooking. Nice day off.

Total Loss for Week Three:

I had an interesting doctor's visit yesterday. The doctor was very complimentary about my loss and the way I've gotten here. I told her I'd like to lose another 30, which would put me at the top end of the "healthy" range, and she said that was fine, but even if I just maintain where I am now, I'm in pretty darn good position health wise. She would like me to do some strength training, and was very supportive of my goal to get back in the pool swimming laps, as she considers that the best form of exercise out there. So that was all good to hear. The funny part was when she tried to compare some of my numbers to last year. She said I'm the first person she's seen who lost as much weight as I have, who actually had some numbers get worse. For example, my LDL cholesterol and triglycerides were both up slightly. The thing is that my cholesterol wasn't that bad to start with, so they were up a few points, but still just slightly elevated (up to 100 is normal, I was 107, and up to 150 is normal, I was 160). Other than my blood pressure and A1C, I was a relatively healthy obese person before, and now I'm a slightly healthier overweight person, and my numbers are just moving around within a margin of error. However, my A1C and glucose were both WAY down, which was awesome. In fact, I am no longer pre-diabetic, I am now in the healthy range, and my glucose was actually slightly lower than average. Also, my blood pressure was down to 122/82, which is ALMOST normal. It use to be regularly 160/105, unmedicated, and even on medication, was never below 135/90, so that was a nice improvement. I was on 3 medications at one point to get to that, but now I'm only taking a half dose of one and that's it. Overall I only had a couple numbers outside the healthy range, and they were all just barely outside. Much better overall than last year even though my cholesterol was up slightly.

I actually am surprised that my cholesterol didn't improve though. Reading through the lists of foods to eat, foods to avoid, and lifestyle changes to make to improve your cholesterol, that's pretty much exactly the changes I have made this last year. I would think that my numbers would have improved. So I may just be genetically predisposed to slightly elevated levels. Odd though, because I don't think either of my parents have high cholesterol. Maybe they do and just haven't told me, I'll have to find out. And it may just be that I haven't hit that magical weight yet, closer to a healthy weight, that improves my numbers. I am still right on the edge of obese. Maybe the next 20 or 30 pounds will make the difference there. And it might be time for an air popper, since I eat a lot of popcorn, and buttered microwave popcorn is on the no-no list for high cholesterol.

Another good week for me.
I dropped my phone on the concrete. The screen was shattered. These days the phones are getting bigger and heavier. I miss those 5.7" phones.
Happy Easter everyone! Joe

No idea what is going on right now. I've been eating very well, and yet I've been up slightly the last two weeks, and my average weight this week is exactly the same as my average weight last week. Hoping for a better outcome this upcoming week, but all I can do is put in the work, the scale will show it when it wants to show it.

Hope everyone has a happy Easter!

Hi, hello, it me - the queen of disappearing and gaining more weight Glad to see some familiar faces here still rocking the weight loss game! For those who don't know me, feel free to call me Rie. The 29th will be my 8 year anniversary on this here forum and during that time my life has taken all sorts of twists and turns. I've seen big successes and some slip ups, but what keeps me coming back to 3FC is the amazing sense of community and accountability that this forum provides. The biggest achievement I saw in my weight loss journey was back in 2012 where I went from being in the 180's to getting to a cool 149 lbs in just over a year. I think being in my early twenties helped, as well as having a job that had me on my feet for the entirety of my shift + the time to exercise.

On April 13th I hit 30, an age I had always hoped to have this weight loss shtick figured out, but alas I have definitely not figured it out which is why I'm here Before my scale lost its battery power this morning I weighed in at 189.6 lbs, though I have seen 190 lbs in the last couple of weeks. The day before my 30th birthday, I leaned over to put a pan in a cupboard and my lower back spasmed which caused me immense pain. What a testament to how terribly I've been treating my body - I've been incredibly inactive and putting strain on my joints and muscles by being this weight. It's time to make a change!

Things that are new in my life since I last posted - I got a semi-full time job at a creative agency which has been amazing. I'm back to a regular routine and no longer working from home full time. I'm about to go from working 3 days a week to 4 on the 29th, so I'll be working Monday - Thursday then working from home on Friday. It's been a great thing for our financial situation, which has been a source of all consuming stress for my husband and I for the last couple of years. We're both crazy people and decided to be self employed!
After glancing at my last posts here on 3FC it looks like I've gained 8-9 lbs since I was last here, which isn't surprising given the amount of snacks that are available at my new job. I'm also sat at a desk for 8 hours a day and haven't been making the time to workout.

However! I'm here to make some tweaks to my life. Since I'm in a better financial situation now I'm going to try and see about signing up to ClassPass again. I had used it while living in CO back in 2015 and it was wonderful. The system has changed, now you pay a monthly fee and get a certain amount of credits that you use to buy classes at studios in your city. I've been obsessively looking into local studios and have come up with a workout routine to fit around my current schedule. Friday - Barre, Saturday - Run/Insanity (home), Sunday - Yoga, Monday - Dance class. It's going to be quite the adjustment, especially working out for 4 consecutive days, but I have taken up Twitch Streaming and do that on Tues, Weds, Thurs evenings after work so I won't have the time to workout those days. I'm not about waking up before work to exercise either

As for my diet, I'm hoping to do what I've been saying I've wanted to do for a long time, which is phase out bread/sandwiches and replace my lunches with a healthier option. Recently I've discovered that cereal/oatmeal with milk has been upsetting my stomach in the mornings, so I have given up milk (the biggest source of my dairy intake) and instead began to eat fruit in the morning and a granola bar. I need to find a healthier alternative to my granola bars, since I'm sure there's a bunch of sugar in them that isn't necessary. Any suggestions that doesn't involve bread/dairy? Something I can grab and eat? I wouldn't mind prepping on a Sunday if need be.

If you made it this far into my mega-rant I thank you very much! I'm gonna hop on to the end of this challenge to stay accountable for the next week, which is going to be crraaazzzyy. It's burger week here in Atlanta, $5 a burger at various restaurants! Then my husband's parents are in town from Thursday - Monday so we'll be doing a lot of eating with them too. I'm planning on trying my 2 week ClassPass trial once they've left and kick start my new routine!

Hi Rie: happy late birthday and welcome back. 30 is still young and you can and will lose the weight. Have you ever tried lettuce wrapped burgers? Soooo delicious.

Riestrella: Welcome back. In my opinion, the 30s are much better than the 20s, so lose it now and enjoy them. I'm 41 now and was obese for all of my 30s. I'm about the same weight as you now, but it took me almost 80 pounds to get here. My point is that your starting place isn't so bad at all.

Follena: Way to go getting good choices in with temptations in your path.

I read through all the news from your doctor, Lacerta, and it is indeed interesting that your cholesterol did not come down. I am glad you are not in any panic about this....what you are doing is working and the next time you test the cholesterol, it might read more the way you would have expected.

Hi Riestrella!

I will weigh in tomorrow. I am a bit hopeful.

Today is a nice short day since a meeting takes me off site early afternoon. And I'm listening to Sarah Vaughn in my Bose headphones ... pure heaven. Have a great day, everyone!

Beeps: Thanks. In my and my doctor's opinion, it isn't really high enough to be concerned about, anyway. She didn't even recommend any changes or meds, because I'm already doing everything I should be doing and it was only slightly elevated. Plus, my total cholesterol and my ratios were both fine. Still, I'm hoping to have all of them read normal by my appointment next year.

Follena: Thanks and way to go on seeing a 158 yesterday. Those new lows are exciting.
