KimL: I don't know if you've been an exerciser all along, but when I first started out, 20 minutes of walking on the treadmill at 3mph was exhausting for me - so I'm pretty amazed at 25 minutes on the eliptical!! The increased endurance will definitely come with time.
Jan 1 -
Jan 2 - Strength exercises (upper body, lower body and abs; 50 minutes) + stretching and 10 min walk
Days: 1/20
My bit of achievement today: When I first started out doing strength exercises, I couldn't come close to doing a real push-up, and could only manage a few on my knees. For a long time, any time I did pushups I did them on my knees, until I read back in September that it's really not a great way to build up to doing regular pushups. Since then I've been doing pushups on an elevated surface (the arm of the sofa), and over the last month or so I've been doing 100 in 10 minutes, in 10 sets of 10. Tonight, for the first time, I gave the regular pushups a try again... and managed to do 50 in 10 minutes in 10 sets of 5! I was definitely hitting muscle failure in the later sets (which is a good thing, it should be hard!), but I was SUPER pleased with myself that I can do 50 real pushups! Some day, I'll be able to do all 50 in a row.
