With me, I know when the weight becomes too light when I am not fatiguing at all after those reps and then I would increase it by very little. We've had a lot of injuries with the weights lately so just take it slow gals and remember to keep your heads facing forward when you work and never turn your head while lifting. A lot of you go to the gym and prob know this already and then some...much more than I do! Just becareful, that's all

You know I just read in that Body for LIFE book that-- "A pound of muscle needs about 35 to 50 calories per day to function; a pound of fat, fewer than 3 calories. So essentially, the less muscle you have, the fewer calories you'll burn." I thought that was a rather nifty piece of information. I never looked at it like that. I suppose that is why strength training is so important as well.

iDream 05-10-2009 11:26 AM

Just posted on the sister thread, so I thought I'd share here too...

O...M...G...Spin class is HARD!!! I couldn't do the whole standing up sitting down thing--so I just did the increases and rode that way for the whole class. Now my knees are in agony and various parts of my pevic region are very, very mad at me for sitting on that bicycle seat for 45 mins! Yeeouch! (sorry if that's TMI ) Kudos to you ladies who can manage a spin class without whimping out like me. I just don't think I'm ready for that just yet. I knew my legs were out of shape, but holy cow...

I've realized that I need to amp up my treadmill though, I am capable of working harder. Thankfully though, I don't have to test that theory tonight...my cardio is done for the day! LOL

FSA ~ thanks for the tips on the strength training! I'm doing the Body for Life st'ing method which is 15-20 reps at the lightest weight, 10-15 at an increased weight and 8-10 at the heaviest weight by then end you're muscles are certainly feeling it!

Okay girls, have a wonderful day! I gotta run and nurse my poor aching knees by sitting in the sun for a bit and sippin' my water. :)

FullSteamAhead 05-10-2009 12:37 PM

Hi girls :) I did my workout and taking a quick break with an ice coffee.

Delphi, wow! I was aware that muscle needed a lot more energy and burns fat but what a ratio! Thanks for sharing delphi :) , that's awfully good incentive for us to keep up with our strength training. That book sounds awesome girls! I will put it on my agenda.

crazymamaof4, OMG! They stand up and cycle too? Holy cow! 45 minutes is a long time too, especially for a first time! I hope your out there :sunny: enjoying the sun, you owe it to yourself after that :ebike: workout! THink I will join you, it turned out to be such a nice day so I am going to sit outside a bit. The weathr the rest of this week is iffy and this is a good chance to take advantage.

Hello ladies- hope everyone is having a happy mother's day.
Seems like the site is working better today- I have a hard time checking in because the site keeps locking up. Last night I finally gave up and went and posted on my blog instead.

We started the C25k yesterday- WOW- sounds sooo easy on paper. haha Actually it wasnt too awful bad. We live in the country, cars are few in between, but they go really fast. So we did our warm up on our road and by the time we were done with the 5 minutes for that we were able to get on a side road that isn't so dangerous. That and the fact that it is sparsely populated for the jog- lol. We went up and down a section of that road for the duration of the training- honestly though, we just walked the last 7 min of it, it was really windy and I just couldn't do the jogging anymore. But it was a good time and I definatly FEEL it in my thighs. But it's a good pain, not horrible.
I feel accomplished for doing it, and tomorrow we will do day 2- yea. I hope to be able to go bike riding in a bit after we go to for our mom visits.
My birthday is in 8 weeks and the C25K is a 9 wk program, so we are using my birthday as a goal date to be at or at least near the 5k. If we can do that, then I want to find a 5k run to do just to say that I can!

fenderella5678 05-10-2009 03:26 PM

Hey girlies! Sorry I've been gone so long, but I hope I can jump back in quickly enough.
I haven't been doing so well since my birthday, I've been off plan pretty badly. But I'm slowly getting back on track. I've been doing a lot better with food, I just need to incorporate exercise and get things moving again!

And the good news is that I didn't gain much weight, only .4 lbs, so there's no reason why I can't still make my goal. :)

I'm gonna try and post on here more often than I have, that's one of the things I've been neglecting to do. I was doing so well when I posted here everyday, and wouldn't you know it I fall off plan when I stop posting. lol

JasonsLea 05-10-2009 04:41 PM

 girls!

Sorry I don't have time for personals, I have to start work in like 10 minutes. :barf: I walked a mile today, first time in like forever! It was SO FREAKIN HOT! But I made it and felt much better after downing a cold Powerade. I shall do it again. :)

Jacque9999 05-10-2009 06:53 PM

Loved Slumdog Millionaire...it was the 2nd time I saw it and it was just as good as the first.

Jacqui_D 05-10-2009 06:55 PM

Fenderella!!! So glad you're going to start posting again! We've missed you! Congrats on maintaining! Before you know it, you're going to be in the 200s!! One day at a time. :)

Lea, great job getting that mile in, girl!! :running:

Thanks FSA, you're doing great too! And thank goodness DH got the bread out of the house, lol! :D

Delphi, I've always heard that muscles burn more calories than fat. That's why experts always tell you to build muscle if you want your metabolism to work more efficiently, :lifter: but I never dreamed it was that big of a difference!! Thanks for sharing that! That's exactly the type of weight loss info I tuck away in this brain of mine, lol!

CMof4, you are a crazy mama!!:ebike:Lol! The spin class sounds so hard!! :drill: My knees and other parts would never been able to take it! :faint:

Supachix, WTG on preparing to do a 5K!! That's exciting!! Jodi, I think you've surpassed your exercise goal in the sister thread of "start exercising," or in your words, "get my butt out of this chair," lol! Time to add some meat to that goal, chickie!! :cheer:

Hi to all the rest of our ladies!! I hope you're having a great day and a great weekend!

Delphi 05-10-2009 07:45 PM

Everyone has had another great day! Welcome back fenderella! :)

@JD ~ Well, I'm trying to keep my head full of all this stuff as well. I'm taking notes from you and hitting goodwill tomorrow and see if I can find some reading material for cheap. I think most of it is common sense in those books, but you really do walk away with facts and tips that are quite informative.

@crazymama ~ Wow, I know there is no way I could do it. I do good to even get on my bike without falling off. Kudos!

@lea ~ :congrat: on the mile.

I guess I'm off for the evening, I had such a great morning but TOM has progressively, taken every bit of life from me today. :( Fortunately, I've stayed OP, made healthy choices and managed to get all my exercise in before I started to feel really bad. Which is simply another reason why I get up so early in the mornings. ;) You ladies have a great evening. :)

Jacqui_D 05-10-2009 09:02 PM

OH MY WORD!! There's going to be a 3FC site outage on Tuesday from around lunchtime to either that night or possibly the next day!! :fr: Whatever am I going to do with myself without 3FC for that long?!!! :faint:

Lewisempire 05-10-2009 09:09 PM

Hi girls!!!
OMG-where do I start??? I had an abundance of energy today, I got 7 miles in!! I know, crazy!!! It will definately be a motrin night!!! HAHA- I also wanted to comment on the increased water intake helping with TOM cravings-
It definately WORKS!!! At least It did for me, this month!!!! Thanks so much to whoever stumbled upon that info!!!! I never would have thought it would make such a difference.

Delphi- Don't forget your multivitamins! they help replenish you!! Oh and Drink your water!! Be good to yourself!

JaquI9999- I thought that Slumdog was a great movie too! Glad you enjoyed it!

Jasonslea- Hi there! WTG on the mile! Keep it up!

FSA- MMMMmmm Ice coffee sounds good! I am glad DH got rid of the dreaded bread!!! I spent a big part of my day outside too! I changed out my Hummer juice. It had ants on it :?:, I put up fresh, hope they start coming by soon! I did however find a robins nest with 5 eggs in it! It was really neat, of course it looked just like cadbury cream eggs! :o Our blackberry bushes are in full bloom, and we have Mulberries by the million. I do however wish my garden could grow faster than the weeds in it! :dizzy: Oh well, I have so much lettuce, I had to give some to the neighbors!

Supachix- YAY! sounds like you had some fun! I love "the good kind of sore" keep up the hard work!

Fenderella! Welcome back Girl!!! We have missed you!!!!

Girls, I gotta go for now, I will try to get back later! I hope everyone Had a Fantastic Mother's Day!

lene1974 05-10-2009 09:32 PM

Happy Mother's Day!!!
I had a great day with DH and the kiddos. We had a picnic here today and I ate everything SB friendly but I ate more then my tummy was used to. Tomorrow starts week 2 of phase 1 and I'm ready to go. Last week I had so many obstacles, Moms and Muffins at kid's school (I was serving donuts and muffins), 3 different desserts at our picnic tonight, and Choc dipped strawberries, cake, pies, danish ect... at work. And I won, no cheating!

Lea~ great job on the mile!

Delphi~ I think TOM is here for me too. Yay for getting "healthy business" done before you felt effected.

Supachix~ I did c25k last year just keep pushing yourself and don't give up. The weight will start melting off of you and you will feel so great. Good luck!

CMof4~ I would love to go to a spin class, they sound like so much fun (okay, I mean fun as long as you like sweat and pain :)) Glad you survived.

Cheecheen~ Welcome!!!

FSA~ Tomorrow's the big day, my fingers are crossed for you. Overall, I had a really good week. It seemed effortless 97% of the time. Although, yesterday I baked my kids a frozen pizza. After they ate, it was sitting there and I was thinking that cheese looked so yummy and I picked some off
raised it to my lips and then dropped it like poison saying out loud "what are you doing?" That was a close call. I drank lots of water this week and was OP everyday. I can't wait to hear from you tomorrow!

Lewis~ Congratulations on hitting onderland!!!!!

I hope everyone else had a great weekend. I'll check in tomorrow.
Good night!!

Neesy_20 05-10-2009 09:33 PM

OMG!!! May is a third over! UGH. I need to kick my butt into overdrive if I want to reach my goal. Still time to catch up. My official weigh in on May1st was 207.6... Today I am 202.4. I guess I'm not that far off. Not too shabby... well keep you all posted

SupaChix 05-10-2009 10:15 PM

Well I didnt get the bike ride in. :-( We got in the van to go to my mom's and my hubby's moms and something was wrong with it and it wouldn't run right. I just about lost it, and got really down. Feeling all the stress come crashing back in- ugh. Yesterday marked 1 yr since my hubby lost his job (the factory closed)- this area has next to nothing in jobs, I just don't know what we are going to do, his unemployment extensions run out in about 6 weeks and now this. UGH but on the positive- I didn't even feel like I wanted to eat my feelings. I used to do that really bad, I just realized the thought never even crossed my mind today, and I was having a LOT of feelings.
