I also need to know the rules on starting a new thread. I thought I could do so after 10 posts, but is it after 30?

EarthShaker 07-23-2008 01:27 PM

Smeegirl, why don't you join us for our Christmas challenge, rather than making a new thread? We'd love to share in your success!

I should be excited, but I'm just kind of bleh.

My dad and I went on our hike, and this time I brought a pedometer. I found out that it's just over 5 miles, so I was most impressed with myself. My doctor's appointment is in just a little bit, so I'm excited about that, too. I did the treadmill for an hour yesterday as a baseline pre-training number, and I managed a little over 3 miles, so not a terrible start.

But I started playing with BMI's, and I was just hit with a big old bomb of bleh. For the first time since I started losing weight this time, I realized how long it will take with consistent weight loss to get to merely overweight.

This is something I didn't want to become focused on, and yet, now that's in my head, I just can't get rid of it.

Bleh.

smeegirl 07-23-2008 01:51 PM

EarthShaker,

Thanks for the invitation! I can't believe how many threads there are here!!!

So, ok... I have a very steep goal for Christmas. 60 LBS

That will put me at 144 LBS. Which is about 13 years of weight gain.

Merry Christmas in deed!

God grant me the Grace I need to receive this gift!!!! PLEASE!!!!

Enygirl 07-23-2008 02:36 PM

Hey girls! Just checking in! Smee :welcome: I love seeing new faces! You have a lofty goal for the next 22 weeks! Keep coming in here - we'll keep you honest and motivated! :D

Earth - don't let the BMI #s scare you! You are doing a good thing for yourself! YOu'll get there! It took a long time - but my original BMI was 44.1 now it's 34.3... it's going down!!! My Christmas goal is to get it at 29.9 (overweight) but I remember a time in which that goal seemed completely rediculous! I also remember back then thinking that I'd look "sickly thin" at #170! But here I am at #187 - feeling better and better... and I can't wait to hit my Christmas goal of #163.6 and my ultimate goal of #130-#135!!! It's going to take time... your walk training will help a TON!

Patty - maintaining is just as hard as losing. Ramp up the exercise a bit - or eat some mor eprotein and you should see those number start moving down again. :)

PrettyPaula 07-23-2008 03:04 PM

hello ladies, hope everyone is well, i finally saw a movement on the scale today, im down to 207.... slowly inching my way back down to onederland!

bluemommy 07-23-2008 05:14 PM

good evening all. i haven't had much time to post today. my baby had the big 12 month checkup and had to get shots. you can imagine what i'm dealing with today.

Dixiemae 07-23-2008 05:56 PM

Eny~We weigh so close to the same, but your BMI is better than 2 points better than mine. Mine is 46 something. Every ones body is different.

Earth Shaker~Don't let the BMI numbers bother you. They are just that, numbers, nothing more. They do not define who you are or where you are going in your journey. Keep your excitement going, keep your eyes on your goal, have fun. You will get there. Numbers will not nor can not stop you!!

Smee~welcome to the group. Looking forward to getting to know you. So jump in. Celebrate Christmas healthier, Santa will bring you new clothes for your new figure.

Pretty Paula~CONGRATS on the weigh down.

Amanda~I am so glad you didn't marry that snob!! He doesn't deserve your potential. Wait until he sees or hears about the great figure you have. Let him drool cause he can't have it.

I have had a hectic, frustrating, hair pulling afternoon. I am in a cranky mood. I am going to find a baseball game and take it all out on the stepper. I have had it with this day!! I have crunches and push ups to do yet. I will catch ya all later hopefully in a better mood Pat

Dixiemae 07-23-2008 08:58 PM

Hi all~I am in a better mood now. I did 1 hr 20 mins stepping, 25 upper ab 25 lower ab crunches plus 42 wall push ups. Now I am going to sit down and watch my baseball game. I hope everyone has a great afternoon. Pat

EarthShaker 07-23-2008 10:20 PM

I got the official okay from my doctor. I'm good to go. I should be excited as all get out, and yet I'm not.

Tomorrow's my last day tutoring, and I'm thinking that may be part of it, as well as a sense of loss with a friend.

I know that tomorrow will be better, blah, blah, blah, but right now I just feel...something.

Meh.

mothermavis 07-24-2008 06:27 AM

Earthshaker, maybe you need to cut yourself a bit of slack. Anti-climatic maybe? Hang in there and just keep walking, it'll get better.

I can completely relate, I feel like I've fallen and I can't get up. TOM is here, bloat is here and according to the scale I've now gained 5 pounds this week. I know that can't be right because I haven't taken in anywhere near the calories that would require, but it makes me so upset and then you just want to chuck the whole plan out the window and drown your sorrows in chocolate....so anyhow, let's see if I can pull my head out of the sand so when time leaves, the bloat can go too...

Enygirl 07-24-2008 08:23 AM

Dixie - I'm not sure where you're calculating your BMI, but by my calculations you're at 30.3 for being #188 and 5'6". You're just moments awy from being "overweight" which is my Christmas goal! Also what questions do you have for quilting? i'm not an expert by any means, but I can pretty easily ask a few if I don't know the answer.

Earth - Chin up girl! It's ok to have Blah days... I have them often. You don't have to be gunho about training... just start off and do at least 20 minutes. see how far that takes you. on days that you're not blah go more. you can and WILL do this!

TOM decided to finally show up (better late then PREGNANT! :bb:) but he brought #2 of water weight with him! My goal during TOM is to accomplish some sort of lost by the time he's gone.. which is a challenge in itself! I can't let go of the goal in site - I just have to embrace the struggle!

Dixiemae 07-24-2008 09:17 AM

Eny~I have a scale that calculates BMI. I did a sneak peek this morning. My weight is 186.8. But the body fat was 47.7~by this scale it was almost 52 when I started at 198. I like your numbers tons better!! Is there a fitness site that I can go to to get the way to figure the BMI myself? If my scale is wrong I don't want to rely on the percentages!! I don't like thinking I am almost half fat.~~~I thought before I start on a full size quilt I would make a Christmas tree skirt. I found some beautiful Christmas fabric assortment cut into 4 inch squares. Now all I need is a pattern with pictures. I found patterns on a web search, none had pictures. Any ideas where I might find a pattern?

Earth Shaker~ you can and will do this Have a training schedule in mind. Build up slow and steady. Rome was not built in a day, but Nero nearly destroyed it in a night!. We all have down days it is okay. You will be fine.

MM~I am going to hold off on the out side walk/jog and continue to to it in the house. My right knee started bothering me last night. I have 2 walk jog workouts. I will start on them today. I want to test this knee a little bit more before I hit the pavement. I take arthritis medication. I may have to take an oc pain reliever too. That is okay with me. For every pound of body weight I loose it take 4 pounds of pressure off my knees. That is what I want and need to do. One justifies the other in my mind. I will be out there doing the c25k in a week or so. I am asking ex for my treadmill so I have back up when the weather is bad. Pat

Enygirl 07-24-2008 09:40 AM

Ahh - that's what it is. body fat calculations are different then BMI. I'll look and find some quilted tree skirt pictures for you.

dcapulet 07-24-2008 09:52 AM

Hi ladies,

It's not to late to join, is it? I love challenges, and have been away from the boards for a while...

I have another challenge that is pounds related, so I's like to do something different here...

I would like to wear a size 14 by then... currently, I wear a 20. I think in 5 months, with a lot of hard work, it would be possible.

Slimmin Patty 07-24-2008 10:14 AM

DixieMae,

Self has a BMI calculator at shape.com/fitness_tools/bmi/

Sorry about not posting the link... I don't have 25 posts yet.

EarthShaker 07-24-2008 10:18 AM

Welcome, dcapulet! Best of luck with your goals!

Thank you, thank you, thank you all for your support yesterday. My downness started with the numbers and just kind of snowballed into everything I've ever done wrong. (Ha). Still a bit down. It's my last day at a job I really enjoy, at least for a while.

I got the all-clear from the doctor, though, and signed up for the meeting. I decided to go with an earlier meeting although I'll have to drive a good bit further because I don't think I could wait 6 extra days.

I'm going to start a thread, I think, when I have more time to track my training.
But I think I'll wait to when my camera's charged (charging now). I have a picture from a little less than 3 months ago, but there's a 25 lb difference. I hate the camera, but am hoping I'll be a little inspired when I see the pictures back to back.

Thinking that I just might be able to walk a half marathon in five months got me through my gym work out this morning. I'll be back this evening to work the treadmill.

Thanks again, folks. This is why I love this place.

akhrob 07-24-2008 10:28 AM

Hi All!

Well I went to a Birthday party for a friend last night and did pretty good. At least I didn't completely blow it! I also got my walking in! YEAH!

Pretty Paula - Congrats on the loss!

Bluemommy - I hope your little one gets to feeling better. I have to take mine to get his 4 month shots in a few weeks. That is never fun!

Pat - I hope your team won the baseball game!

Earthshaker - Keep on Truckin! Don't lose site of the goal! Your motivation was contagious; I am looking forward to hearing more about your endeavors!

MM - Close that window and keep OP! TOM and all the friends that come with it suck, but sabotage is worse! If you can handle everything you've got going, you can do anything!

To everyone else - have a great day!!!

Dixiemae 07-24-2008 10:47 AM

Slimmin~Thank you for the site. I found it, I used it I am happy!!

Eny~Your calculations are correct! Thanks to Slimmin I calculated my BMI. It did say 30 I need to loose 31 pounds to be in the right range for my height. I don't know where the scale gets 47 but I will ignore it from now on. Thinking I was 47% fat was not okay with me. Even though I did see it come down from 52~~Thank you for looking for a Christmas skirt that also has a picture with the directions. I greatly appreciate it!

I am going to ask Ex for my treadmill as part of the package of dog sitting. That way I have a back up when the weather is bad. Pat

Dixiemae 07-24-2008 07:31 PM

Hi All I did a 33 min walk jog dvd. We walk 3 min Jog 3 min all through the dvd. I surprised myself I did pretty darned good. I missed a few steps here and there but not many. She got our arms involved also. For one that cant walk and chew gum I did pretty good. Though I chose not to do some of the arms. I am pooped. One of those days (daze) I woke up tired, have stayed tired all day. I did 25 upper ab and 25 lower ab crunches. My mid section is achey, not sore. I accomplished what I wanted to do. I know me, if they are sore I will back off. I can't back off the black dress beckons me on.

Akhrob~My Cubs did win. I am going to watch them again tonight. Do some stepping and some arm weight trainning. I have to start gently and work up to more reps and sets.

Hope everyone is having a good evening. Pat

bluemommy 07-24-2008 07:46 PM

ackrob- thanks]

sorry i didn't read all of the post b/c i'm holding my baby whos sleep. i did my watp today + the stretches afterwards. i hope everyones had a good day. my scale showed a 3 lb gain which is probably right. i ate so much birthday cake this week but now its time to get back on the right path!

ForABetterLife 07-24-2008 10:06 PM

hey guys! Sorry I don't check in here too often. Sometimes the size of this thread makes me go :yikes: I'm down a little on my weight. 255.2 from 256.6 and I have been binge free for 3 days so all is going well!

I'm finding a little but more time for exercise than I thought I would originally between the two jobs.

keep up the good work everyone!

mothermavis 07-24-2008 10:42 PM

Look at everything going on here!

First, welcome to our new friend Dcapulet! We are glad you are here.

Pat you are doing great with the exercise! Black dress, here she comes! I hear ya on the knees, mine protested tonight ( I run between work and class) I had to wog a bit instead of all jogging. I am on my way to do crunches now.

I think maybe I am out of the doldrums, I had a test in my class Monday, was really concerned but I got a 95!! I went to the store on my way home, bought some groceries I can eat and feel good about and maybe I can crawl back on the wagon...

Slimmin, I went and used the site too. That's cooll

Earthshaker, let us know if you start a thread for the half marathon, I actually have signed up for one in September, I am going to run as much as possible and walk the rest. I also participate in a 500 miles by Christmas on the exercise thread, might give you somewhere to start keeping track of your miles.

Bluemommy, I envy you the sleeping baby, my baby is almost 18...

Slimmin Patty 07-25-2008 10:09 AM

Good morning,

Friday is my WI day and I'm down .6 lbs. I'm still holding on to Onderland and never want to leave it again.

I put on clean jeans this morning (friday is jeans day) and found that I'm going to have to buy smaller jeans... darn!! These have been looking sloppy for a while. I love going down a size... then it really shows the weight I have lost.

I can't wait until I get my signature!! ;)

Have a great day everyone!

akhrob 07-25-2008 10:17 AM

WTG - Slimmin!!! I agree with you - I am never going back to where I have been!!!

MM - Congrats on the test!

Well, I gotta get to work - talk to you all later...

dcapulet 07-25-2008 10:35 AM

wow, there sure is a lot going on in this thread!

thanks to all for the nice welcome. :)

congrats to everyone who's down some pounds this week. my weigh in is tomorrow.

even more congrats to the ladies sticking with it when the results can be discouraging. you can do it!

I walked 1.5 miles today, for the 4th time this week. Tomorrow, I'm going to make it 5 times in one week: for the first time in YEARS. I think I will be a regular exerciser, at this rate. :cheer:

Matilda08 07-25-2008 11:20 AM

Hello everyone I would also like to join this challenge because hopefully by xmas I will see the low 200's on the scale. I would like to get down to 200 by year end so this is def a good start for me. I hope to get to know you all. Have a great day!!!!

Enygirl 07-25-2008 12:47 PM

forabetterlife - check in as much as you can. Don't worry about personals - we understand that you don't always have time to read all of them! I only do because I'm currently avoiding work ;) :congrat: on the loss - and being binge free - that's TOUGH!

slimmin & Amanda - I'M WITH YOU! even with TOM sohowing up with #2 of water weight yesterday I was SO excited to NOT see a #190!!! The water weight is gone today, and actually I'm down a little bit... NEVER GOING BACK!!! #170's HERE I COME!!!!!

dc - :welcome: this is a busy thread, but Christmas is a popular goal date. YOu don't have to try and keep up with all of us - just keep us posted on your progress.

I have a meeting at 2, so I'm going to do a 15 min video before it, and do more tonight too. yesterday I did my pushups and 100 MMunchs :D I WANT TO BE OVERWEIGHT WHEN :santa: COMES

mothermavis 07-26-2008 08:49 AM

Welcome Matilda!

Happy Saturday all. I need to get out and do my run before it gets hot

halfbakedtulip 07-26-2008 08:58 AM

Ive been lurking in this thread for awhile and decided finally I should join lol.

My story...umm I'm fat:p Christmas is the perfect goal for me. I'm a military wife and hubby is going off to Afghanistan shortly. January 3 is his leave and we are planning to go to Belize. This will be part vacation part honeymoon as we never had one.
I want to be in a bikini dammit or something close to it.

I joined herbal magic July 10 and am down 8 lbs...would have been more but its takn me a week to make up for nonstop eating last weekend eek!!

I joined HM because I have tried it on my own for a long time and never got further then 5 lbs or so. The idea of a stranger watching over me is probably the only thing keeping me on track lol because Its soooo embarassing to have someone know my weight and then be disappointed when ive gained etc. My weight like many others is tied to all sorts of emotional stuff. I gained 50 lbs in only 2 months when I had ectopic pregnancy and was cut hip to hip. Suddenly I looked pregnant..but wasnt and was trying to deal with never being able to have more children. Ive never been able to make a dent in this 50 lbs....its been 14 yrs almost btw. I think what really got me motivated though was that in September I somehow managed to get pregnant again only to find out it was another ectopic. Ive never been so afraid...would I gain another 50 lbs eek!! but no thankfully I didnt...but I think that had to do with half starving myself because my fear was so great.

So thats my story and why Im here. What a wonderful idea this group is. Good luck to everyone and happy weighing:hug:

http://www.3fatchicks.net/img/bar-ch...2/145/188/.png

For every 5 lbs lost :belly:

Enygirl 07-26-2008 09:44 AM

halfbaked :welcome: and  what a crazy journey! We're here, I'm glad you decided to join in rather than lurk any longer. We understand the emotional stuff! Have you bought a really cute (realistically) smaller bathing suit to use as motivation yet? you should! Hang it up where you can see it when cravings hit... the Kitchen perhaps? As a reminder of why you're working so hard for this! Just and Idea... Beleze sounds so romantic and exotic! Perfect place to get away with your hubby! :) Come in often!

Speaking of coming in often... 36 where are you??? I haven't seen her around lately!

Yesterday was splurge day for me (1500-1800 cals) and I was very good - and I even got to eat some Ben & Jerry's halfbaked ice cream! YUM!!! :yay: I'm going to do some house work today and keep decluttering my house... wish me luck!

:santa: 21 weeks and 5 days left!! :santa:

Dixiemae 07-26-2008 05:32 PM

Hi Everyone~Yesterday I completely crashed and burned. I did not exercise at all. My eating was way off program. I ate a cream filled doughnut like it was a steak. Then the guilty feelings started creeping in. I was already trying to deal with feelings and emotions. I was very overwhelmed at the thought of weight training. So much so I defeated myself before I really got going on it. In the end they all bit me. I had a bad night trying to sleep while wrestling with all my emotions. After a lot of thinking and soul searching I came up with 2 things. 1) I refuse to loose sight of my slinky black Christmas dress. 2) I need a better plan. Here is what I have come up with.

1) I will do at least 30 min of cardio every day. 2) I will do an ab workout 6 days a week 3) I will do a 16 minute weight training workout 6 days a week. 4) I will eat clean and op. The weight work out looks like this day 1 back, ab, leg-hip, butt Day 2 arms chest shoulders. It is doable and not so/as overwhelming as the plan I had started with. I can work up from this basic plan.

This evening while watching my Cubs loose I did 1 hour of stepping. I am thankful I have that to come back to. Chin up taking one step at a time. Everyone have a nice evening. Pat

Enygirl 07-26-2008 07:10 PM

Pat  hang in there girl! We all have slip ups - TRUST ME! I had 2 months of being completely off the wagon! (and put back on #16 that I had lost!!!) Keep your plan simple to follow and stick to AND DO IT! That's really the key. We're not just losing weight - we're changing our lives, habits etc. Maitaining is just as hard (don't believe me? Check out the maintainers threads!) and you still have to work at it once you get there!

We're in this together - we WILL keep going!

Dixiemae 07-26-2008 08:51 PM

Eny~Thank you sooooooooooo much for the kind words and encouragement. We will do this together as a team. I put together a plan I think I can do. Weights may be too big of a step at this moment in time. I may have to alter to resistance bands first. I dread Monday wi!! Pat

halfbakedtulip 07-27-2008 07:51 AM

So Im down today yay me 187.2....1 more pound and Ill finally have lost 10lbs....the most ever!!!

http://www.3fatchicks.net/img/bar-ch...145/187.2/.png

For every 5 lbs lost :belly:

Dixiemae 07-27-2008 11:41 PM

Hi Everyone~I did 1 hour of stepping, 30 upper +30 lower ab crunches +20 each side crunches + 50 wall push ups. Food was op. Tomorrow is weigh in day. DREAD. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Pat

Enygirl 07-28-2008 08:54 AM

Pat - How'd WI go? Mine was today as well - I'm down #1 from last week to #187.4, and that's DURING TOM! :cheer: It makes me happy. :) I'm still on plan to hit goal for Christmas...:elf: although I'm not going to hit my July goal. :sunny: Pat - what do you say that our end of August goal is to kiss these #180's GOODBYE FOREVER???? I know that I'm going to have to PUSH myself Hard! :lifter: But I think we can do it!

Dixiemae 07-28-2008 09:07 AM

Hi Eny~You are on! lets kiss 180 anything good by!! I am so proud of you for your loss! I weighed in this morning. In spite of the cream filled doughnut the scale was good to me, I85.6. This week I really have to be on program with eating and exercise. I am with you I challenge myself to weigh 170 something by the end of August. I will need lots of support the first week in August, the 3rd would have been my 36 anniversary. I am already mad at him about it, so, I need a plan to help me get through it. The first one is always the hardest. Some how in my mind it needs to be just another day like every other day. But for now we both lost weight for the week!!

Half baked~~Way to go girl. Keep that scale coming down.

Everyone else good morning!! Where are you all?? Pat

http://www.3fatchicks.net/img/heartb...b/0/48/13/.png

bluemommy 07-28-2008 09:08 AM

i'm just getting back home from a road trip with my family. i need to try to catch up with the post.

EarthShaker 07-28-2008 09:55 AM

Pat,

Hang in there. You can certainly meet your goal for August! The first anniversary is tough. I spent mine alone because I couldn't bear to be around people who knew about the divorce.

Only lost .6 this week, a bit of a downer, but at least it's .6 in the right direction.

Four days till the Team in Training meeting. FOUR! I'm excited.

I'm off on a day trip now. It's my mom's birthday, and we're going some place we've never been before, Dauphin Island, AL.

Who knows what awaits!

Y'all have a fantabulous Monday. I'll have to get caught up on the posts when I get back.

Nan
