Hello everyone!:)

Happy Friday

Well, I got on the scales this AM at work. I couldn't believe it - up 2 lbs! I'm hoping its' because I'm getting over TOM. :?:

I went back on Fitday and looked at calories in vs. calories out. From the
15th through today, I had a deficit of at least 500 calories except for one day, I went 44 over. I did find out on Thursday though that my TSH blood level was too high, which could make me hold on to the weight.

I'm just going to keep plugging away and see what happens.

SusanB: Thanks for the information about that complicated math formula. I have my lifestyle set at bed-ridden. I only add my hours worked if we are busier than other days (I work in a 3-doctor practice so most days are kind of crazy and busy).

I went to Physical Therapy today for an hour. I'm hoping to work out some tomorrow on my Total Gym.

Hope everyone has a happy and fun Saturday.

I think I've read somewhere that it IS easier to gain weight once you've lost it. As a person gains extra weight, your body creates more fat cells. Those cells (that hold our fat) don't actually go away as we burn up the fat...

My deficit today was 716. Thats pretty good but I had 45% fat day. I had Burger King for lunch. :barf:

Actually I heard the complete opposite. I heard that everyone has the sane amount of fat cells but when you get fatter those cells swell up - the body doesn't actually make more of them.

That's why liposuction is a bad idea as it removes the fat cells, so if you DO put more weight on, it goes on in weird places.

My source could be wrong of course.

Here's an article at AskMen.com. You are right that we are all born with the same amount of fat cells and the fat cells DO swell up but then they multiply. When you lose the extra weight, you don't lose very many fat cells. All of those fabulous NEW fat cells are just begging to be filled - which is why it is so much easier to regain fat. :)

Thank you - that's pretty scary actually. I was happier with the idea that they stayed the same amount but just swelled up!

Hi everyone

Hey BellaWelcome!!!

I weigh in on Wednesdays........I can't help sometimes stepping on the scale and getting discouraged. I know what I've eaten and I know what I've done as activities and I pretty much feel like my deficits are there............but sometimes when i sneak a peek on the scales before Wed. it says i weigh the same as I did before.........then i'm freaked and discouraged and I peek again in the Am and I'm back down..............

I guess no matter.........you should only look once a week.............:dizzy:

I joined TOPS last week for the weigh-in factor. It was $26 for the year and then $2 a month for dues. I figure it's worth the $50. (That's just a little over what it costs for a month of Weight Watchers!) Granted, if I weighed myself at home it would be free... but I work from home and I need the social interaction! :)

Good morning everyone :coffee2:

I just have to say that this counting calories thing is working! :carrot: Although, I do know I need to watch my fat grams. I did my weigh-in this morning :goodscale: and I'm down 4 lbs. for the week. after not having much of any change last week.

Hey Kim, let us know how you like TOPs.

:grouphug:

The TOPS chapter that I joined only had five people there (including me) last week. I guess a lot of the people go south for the winter. I guess the small number is actually a good thing because it makes a person more accountable instead of just blending into the crowd. (Like at the WW meetings I had been going to with about 30 people.) The meeting was a little different that WW also. The beginning of the meeting involves everyone standing and reciting a pledge. Then the minutes are read from the previous week's meeting. Then role call and you tell everyone how you did that week. The weigh-ins are private so no one knows how MUCH you way. I don't know if all meetings do this, but if you gained, you pay a dime. This group seems to have a lot of different contests or rules involving dimes. :) In the end it isn't a bad thing... Oh, another thing they do is that you have to bring either a quarter or a piece of fruit and the person who loses the most "wins" this. I'm hoping to win on Tuesday.

Interesting read, Kimberly. Thanks. What doesn TOPS stand for. That sounds like a great way to do it though. Not too much money and just the right amount of IRL (in real life) interaction and encouragement.

Christine - I haven't been able to manage to weigh in only once a week. I'm peeking about every other day. The other day I was 256 and then 2 days later 257, but then back down to 255. That's the main drawback with frequest weighing - but I know I'm being good and NOT gaining weight - so the scale is just 1 tool to gauge that.

BTW - I'm going to switch over to Nutridiary. Does anyone use that instead of FitDay. I put in the same days worth of food/amounts and Nutridiary came up with +150 calories. I'd rather error on that side, I guess. ALSO, it automatically computes acording to your weight loss goal and time frame that you want to work it in, what your deficit should be and how many calories you have left!!! Like it. The only drawback is that I can't see anywhere there that you can share a link to have someone help you analyse something.

Well, Nori, you'll just have to come back and tell us how well you're doing. :)

ladylane06 01-22-2006 11:56 AM

I have not used Nutridiary but I do use the pc version of FitDay. It has all the features you mentioned, including projections. Now that I think about it, I rarely use the foods listed in FitDay, I've input nutritional values of foods I normally eat from day to day and use those numbers. You've gotten me interested and I will take another look at Nutridairy. Good Luck!
