Some of my favorite snacks...

Edy's light vanilla ice cream (100 calories for 1/2. cup) and a diet root beer poured over it in a glass. (YUM...does not taste like 100 calories!)
seedless grapes
cut up cantalaupe chunks
diet hot cocoa (20-50 calories-depending on brand)
Silk chocolate soymilk
sugar free Fudgesicle
celery with a dab of natural peanut butter
dried fruit-namely apricots, raisins, and prunes (yes, I am strange-I DO like them and I am not 80.)

Edamame (green soybeans)!
Tomatoes drizzled with a tiny bit of olive oil and sprinkled with your herb of choice.
Kohlrabi.
I just discovered sharp provolone cheese, it is the best thing on earth with crackers.

I am enjoying the new breed of Low Carb Yogurts.

I like the HOOD Atkins Carb Countdown YOGURT. It only has 4 g of carbs and 80 Calories and it tastes very good. I love the Blueberry or Peach or Strawberry or Vanilla.

Default Ohhhh snack food...

I would rather eat six snacks a day than eat meals, I think...especially if I'm going to figure out a way to try all the snack ideas you guys brought up

First off, raise your hand if the 100 calorie packs from nabisco have changed your life. And they don't have any trans fats, even for the cheesits.

I also love....
* Single-serving cottage cheese with a teaspoon of sugar and sliced strawberries in it (or with diced tomato and basil with garlic powder)
* A sliced bananna with half of a maple vanilla yogurt on top
* Pita chips with prepared hummus or tzatziki
* Pria bars
* Air-popped popcorn with margarine spray, Goya 'Adobo' powder and chili powder
* half of a baked apple with ricotta, sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on it
* Wasabi peas or soy beans

Default Nibble Nibble...

  • A date with a small bit of cheese tucked inside (I prefer Havarti). Perfect when you need a salt/sweet hit
  • Newman's Own pretzel rods
  • Garbanzo beans, straight from the can
  • The rice crackers (NOT cakes) at Costco, four to a pack (sesame and cheese flavored)
  • A swig of kefir (liquid yogurt) with probiotic cultures (peach or vanilla flavor): Helios brand
  • Adult carrots (as opposed to baby carrots which, to me, aren't as flavorful) and raw cauliflower
  • Cabbage soup (remember the diet? I like having it on hand--but I dilute it down to lessen the sodium)
  • For a protein blast: tuna (I'm back to oil-packed albacore and will cut down elsewhere to compensate), cottage cheese, and HB eggs
  • And last fall's bit of heaven: a ripe pear with some (not-on-plan) forme d'ambert cheese--one of the yummiest cheeses on the planet

I have recently fallen in love with Danone mousse yogurt...the lower fat version- the vanilla tastes like cheesecake filling - yummy!
