Hello Again

I have been MIA for a few weeks now, but have been relatively OP during this time.

Between computer problems and working overtime I have not had the time to read or post.

But, I will make an extra effort to check in every couple of days.

I am happy to announce that I have exceeded my halloween challenge goal
goal was 10 lbs but I have somehow managed to lose 17 with five days left to go.

All the stories on this site have helped to inspire me and I want to thank you all.

Still a long way to go but the road is a lot easier to travel with the help of this site.

Thanks to everyone.

RachieD 10-26-2003 09:07 AM

Congrats SilverDove, thats quite an accomplishment..you should be proud of yourself!!!!!~

So, how did you do it? Just diet and excersize combined? Any supplements?

Again COnGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!

dentrassi 10-26-2003 12:33 PM

YAY SILVERDOVE!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

Teufelchen 10-26-2003 01:57 PM

Yeah Silverdove!!! Way to go!!! :bravo:

We always love to hear success stories. They help inspire us!

Aqua - you should be congratulated too. It's hard enough to lose weight. I don't think I could do it if I were to follow the vegan-vegetarian regim.

Go Soozie Go!!

sflake 10-26-2003 05:03 PM

:bravo: Silverdove!

mauvaisroux 10-26-2003 08:52 PM

Way to go Silverdove:bravo:

and good going with the pilates Rowan :cp:

Aquareggie, you may be having ups and downs with your plan but I think you are doing well over all :D

LadyOnFire 10-26-2003 09:44 PM

Hello everybody...been gone for a while but back with a vengence. Glad to hear that soozie is 'perky'.
Hello to all the new people.
My halloween challenge weight went right out the window. I think I GAINED  the weight I was supposed to lose. Things here are more than a bit frustrating. (Serious health issues) going to start back with phase 1 in the am. Well I am off to bed. Gotta be ready for the mental challenge of losing weight. I swear that it takes a whole lot of effort to stay OP.
Glad everyone seems to be meeting and exceeding the challenge!!!!

shoequeen69 10-27-2003 03:24 PM

CONGRATULATIONS SILVERDOVE! :balloons:

Its ok Fire Lady. It can be a slow road on the weight journey. I'm sorry you've had health problems. I hope you will be able to re-start your program with minimal annoyance. I have not lost any weight on my challenge. But I'm really glad I found everyone here. :^: You've helped a lot. Do you think we'll have another challenge? Good luck everyone. Take care. :) - Amy

soozie 10-28-2003 01:27 AM

Amy, the good news is
that here at alternachicks,
there is always another challenge!
alternachicks never give in and we never give up...
they have to take us out kicking and screaming...
unless they bribe us with chocolate...
oops,
did I just say that?

sorry, it's just that I'm pms,
oh, what hormones can do to recently chopped up boobage,
my boobs are swollen beyond recognition...
as in, is that a nipple, gee, what's it doin over there? hmmm.... :?: :chin:

I have an infection and am on the antibiotic from ****...Tequin.
and I'm itchy and if I scratch it hurts and it will make the infection worse
and boo-hoo, boo-hoo, boo-hoo...

okay, that's me feeling sorry for myself...
this too shall pass.
um, and so
Yes, Amy there is another challenge.
(did you get the "yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus" reference I was going for...
because holidays are approaching, perfect time for ANOTHER CHALLENGE,
but, first things first, it ain't Halloween yet, even in Canada.

love, Soozie

soozie 10-28-2003 01:31 AM

and I promise that I will post before and after photos,
it's just that I'm so swollen now!
I want to get these babies back down to their
now normal C before we do a photo shoot.

right now one's a D
and the other is
a double D plus...ugh!!!
Like this Ro,
oO
love,
SoOzie

mauvaisroux 10-28-2003 07:20 AM

Don't worry chicks I have a New Years Challenge in mind starting November 1st.....details to follow

I have done so-so on my Halloween challenge but I have managed to lose some poundage and change a few habits so that is good too.

ellis 10-28-2003 07:53 AM

I can't WAIT, Mauvais! I've been eating so much junk lately that I'm anxious to start afresh. (geez, I think I just jinxed myself...)

Soozie, I hope you even up soon, hon. Sounds pretty damned unsightly. :D Get lots of rest and drink lots of water. :grouphug:

squeaker 10-28-2003 09:22 AM

I'm with you Ellis. :) I keep telling myself that this week is the last of it. In Novemeber I WILL get serious about this.

ellis 10-28-2003 09:28 AM

So, ummm... I guess we'll really be chowing down for the next few days, huh? :D

sflake 10-28-2003 09:35 AM

I am soooo very close to my Halloween goal.... 3 freakin more pounds to go...fingers crossed.

Bravo to us all that keep working at it. We are a work in progress. And worth all the hard work :D

Mauvais, Can't wait for the next challenge.

Soozie take care :goodvibes:

shoequeen69 10-28-2003 10:22 AM

Hehehehe, thanks Sooz. U R 2 cool. Sorry about the itchy infection. Hope you heal up soon :) Thanks mauvaisroux. A New Years Challenge sounds great! I was so shocked last night. I haven't done my YMCA exercise for 2 weeks (but I did keep my lunch walking schedule) and I finally went last night. I stepped on the scale and loe and behold, I haven't gained! I'm still under 200! I mean I think I gained 1 pound since the 13th but I was a very naughy girl  that whole week and I've been eatin' like a heffer ever since! :moo: So I'd say thats not too bad for what I've been doing lately. Not that I'm condoning my behavior, I'm just thrilled that I'm not over 200! And I survived my 1st class back! I'm ready for step aerobics tonight. Have a good week chickies. :grouphug:

Teufelchen 10-28-2003 12:25 PM

Hi y`all

Soozie - I`m sorry to hear you are having health problems. :sorry: Hang in there girl. We are here for you!

Well, I did my WW weigh-in last night and I lost 2 lbs. Do you think I can make my goal of 4 by Halloween? (Well, actually the Monday after since that is when I weigh-in.) I`m gonna try. Although I had a little eating frenzy last night after the weigh-in. :hun: Ooops.

Shoequeen - congrats on the not-gaining. That`s always a success too. See my diatribe a few posts ago. *LOL*

Gotta run chicks. Keep up the good work everyone!

And Mauvais - thanks for keeping us on track girl.

Ciao all :goodvibes

dentrassi 10-28-2003 04:12 PM

Soozie-I look like oO ALL the time!!!!! Sorry to hear you have an infection sweetie. But your boobies will be beautiful when this is all over with!!!!

HEY!! I'm starting Nov. 1 also!!!! I am HORRIBLY off the wagon, and am trying to figure out what the heck is going on with me. Went to the Doc. today, and she thinks it is my meds (probably right) so i will be seeing the shrinkiatrist next week. MEANWHILE I found out i am "pre diabetic" so the future is NOW. I kept on thinking if I didn't deal with this "one day" I'd have health problems. This is more specific than i really care to deal with, but still at a manageable phase. In other words, if I don't deal with this i am EVEN crazier than we all knew!!! I have been feeling like I'm wading through quicksand lately; it is hard to get myself to DO anything, and if I do it wears me out.... hope to get it worked out SOON!!!

silverdove 10-28-2003 04:51 PM

Hi Ladies

Thanks for all your good wishes.

How'd I do it?
Well, I did Phase I of South Beach
I'm a pig for bread so it was difficult, but I survived it.
It's true, the bread cravings are not like they used to be.
I began Phase 2 thinking how great it would be to have bread and pasta etc.
Although I'm having some bread I am making better choices in the food I am eating and trying to avoid the bad carbs.
Also, I drink coffee and during the Phase I portion I gave up cream and switched to Coffee Mate.
Once I realized I didn't like coffee mate and it was not available at most meetings I have to attend, I started drinking coffee black so giving up all the cream probably helped too.

I wish I could say I have started an exercise program, but I haven't. Been thinking of Pilates but so far only dreaming I'm doing it.

Motivation for a New Years Challenge for me is a week booked in Puerto Plata in January. I can hardly wait.

Hope to be able to spend more time here reading posts and keeping up on the news.

Once again, thanks for all your help and encouragement.

take care

VOW 10-28-2003 05:10 PM

I'm going to have to make my own personal Thanksgiving challenge: see if I can stay UNDER a five-pound GAIN.

I'll be sure to post my brags about what I DIDN'T eat. Of course, being Vegan this T-Day will help a LOT. (no gravy, no real butter, no whipped cream...)

Peace and pigginess,
~VOW

ellis 10-29-2003 08:34 AM

Den, November 1st is going to be great for us. Don't get discouraged. We did it before, and we can do it again.
We HAVE to do it. Your health (and mine) is too important.
:grouphug:
And if it's your meds, then it's GREAT that you're going to see your shrink.

mauvaisroux 10-29-2003 09:05 AM

Way to go sflake! :cp: you can ditch those 3 pounds!

squeaker 10-29-2003 12:12 PM

Den, hon, you can do it! :grouphug:

um, yup Ellis, lots and lots in the next few days.... As one friend puts it - it's a good bye to food.

sflake 10-29-2003 02:42 PM

Go Den go...ra ra sis boom bah! :)

Aquareggie 10-29-2003 05:27 PM

Go DEN!!!!!

Hm, today is the day of exclamation points. Like that fragrance five years ago or something. Hm. Wonder if I'm making sense AT ALL!

Soozie... or shall we call you SoOzie... Hee hee... hope the girls are realigning themselves properly. Also hope you're less itchy. Bounce in there. (Formerly "hang in there," but not anymore. :D )

Mauvais, thanks for the encouragement. :)

Well, I went three days vegan. Messed up yesterday and today tho. But if I manage to stay vegan tomorrow, it will have been four out of seven days this week. Which is better than every other day. Which is an improvement. :D I'm looking forward to Nov. 1, too. Will probably set a different New Year's goal than the one I committed to back in September. But hey, then it was about the weight, now it's about the diet change. New focus.

Everyone take care,
aR

shoequeen69 10-29-2003 06:04 PM

Hey dentrassi. I'm with ya. I'm 28 and my doc told me this month that I could be heading toward diabetes. Since my mother and aunt both are Type II I don't want to follow in their footsteps! So lets get this weight off ok? Do you have a plan? I admit that I have not done what I was supposed to do since seeing my doctor but I've made a few good steps in the right direction. I have quit drinking leaded cola and now am down to 1 un-leaded cola a day. I've cut back on coffee, mostly cause it upsets my stomach. I quit eating out for lunch so often, now maybe once a week. And I've gotten a pretty set workout routine (even though I goofed the Y for 2 weeks but I kept walkin'). We can do it. November will be a good month for us! Lets go! :D And speaking of going, I'm going to the park right now to walk! Talk to ya'll later :)

dentrassi 10-29-2003 06:06 PM

Ellis, Squeak, Sflake and Aqua-Thanks for the support!!! Just found out my cholestrol and Triglycerides are bad too. They usually fix themselves when i start eating right, but they are the worst they have ever been (OOPS!!!) so it is TIME to get serious!!! Don't care if it is a Thanksgiving challenge or a new Year Challenge, but i need to get going and get SERIOUS!!!

Ready to get going Ellis and Squeak? Is anyone else starting Nov. 1, or are the rest of you already on track? I just remembered that i am going out to a Chinese restaurant Saturday which will be a challenge on South Beach, but I WILL DO IT!!!!!

Aqua-GOOD GOING!!! You are doing really well with your move to veganism!!
I feel like I type with exclamations all the time which is strange considering how blah I am in real life!!!!

dentrassi 10-29-2003 06:10 PM

Shoequeen-We were posting at the same time so i missed your message. Thanks for the encouragement, and YOU ARE RIGHT!!! WE WILL do it!!!! I am restarting South Beach diet since it is diabetes and and heart healthy (oh, did I mention i'm a carb addict?) I am ALSO going to join Curves because I have been COMPLETELY sedentary lately. Need to rebuild my muscles AND start getting aerobic!! Sounds like you have been making some good changes!! Until i find out why i have been so fatigued there is NO WAY I'm giving up the caffeine, so THAT will have to wait!!!

ellis 10-30-2003 07:01 AM

Okay, girls. :drill: We've got some work to do, here.

Den, everybody loves you. Dying is not an option. You need to go and join Curves. Today or tomorrow. Saturday is November 1st. No more excuses. Just say, "YES!"

I am going to do a massive grocery shop today. TONNES of OP food. (thank God it's finally payday)

Mauvais, darling... WHERE is our next challenge? :D And what are you up to lately? You're never here!

Aqua... one word: VEGAN!! ;)

Amy, good going with the walking... keep it up!

Squeak, enjoy stuffing yourself, because dreamland is about to end, baby.

VOW, take it easy with that turkey, huh? You'd better weigh yourself every 10 minutes or so while eating. Don't want to go over that 5 pound mark.

Silverdove, if Den can join Curves, you can join Pilates. You'll feel SO good!

Teufelchen, how's your goal coming? You're SO close! :lucky:

Where is everyone? Ruthie? Gotta goal, hon? a new pedometer)

love and hugs to all :grouphug:

sflake 10-30-2003 08:11 AM

Officially reached my Halloween goal today yippie! You girls have 2 more days till the first so get your heards in the game! You are all to special to not do it. Love you all! :grouphug:

ellis 10-30-2003 08:21 AM

Yip yip yip, Sflake! Good for you, hon!! :hat:

shoequeen69 10-30-2003 09:54 AM

HOORAY FOR SFLAKE! :cp:

Hehehe Ellis you are awesome! Den, good luck on the beach! I keep saying that is what I'm going to try. My doctor suggested Sugar Busters but when I read it I just wanted to curl up and die! hehe I'm just going to start making small changes in the right direction and slowly ween myself off my beloved carbs and sugars. And eat more veggies! I really would love to get some weight off by New Years. What do you think a good goal is for New Years? Thats about 2 months right? Have a good day ya'll :)

dentrassi 10-30-2003 10:18 AM

Sflake-YAY!!!!! SFLAKE HIT HER GOAL!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!! Good going sweetie!!!

Ellis-I need to go shopping too. AND I need to stop eating Halloween candy (oops!!) Sometimes it seems like dying would be easier than dieting, but then there would be no more sex, so yup! It isn't an option!!!!

Shoequeen-South Beach is really great!! The first two weeks are a bit rough, but they really get you detoxed, and the ricotta desserts help get you through!! I am afraid to set a goal since every time I do that I sabotage myself. I am also using Dr. Phil's book and trying to work through the emotional stuff. Like keeping promises to myself like I do to everyone else!!!

Squeak-Me too!! The cut off date is fast approaching!!!!

mauvaisroux 10-30-2003 12:34 PM

:bravo: Sflake!

Shoequeen you have mad some good healthy changes :cp:

I am working on the next challenge - will probably post tonight :)

been very busy Ellis wil catch up with everyone later :D

Teufelchen 10-30-2003 03:13 PM

Hi everyone!

Ellis - you are too cute. I think you managed to address everyone on this thread! Thanks for making us all feel special. :dancer:

VOW - I love your goal. Not too unrealistic I must say. Mauvais is right when she says that your Thanksgiving is too close to Christmas. At least we get a month to recoup here in Canada! *LOL*

Soozie of the perky boobs - how are you feeling? I hope you are resting and taking care of yourself.

Sflake - CONGRATS!!!!! You go girl!!

Mauvais - looking forward to reading our next challenge. Don`t keep us in suspense too long!!

Hello to all the rest of the gang.

Gotta go!! Have a great day all.

Rowan Bailey 10-31-2003 12:56 AM

Yeah Sflake
I did not hit my goal, but I am still down; I am not too unhappy but I know now that I amtaking more positive steps.

I am looking forward to the New Years Challenge, thanks Mauv!!!!

Aquareggie 10-31-2003 07:48 AM

Aw, 3.5 pounds shy. BUT I lost 6.5 lbs! Better than I've done in four years. OK, on to the next challenge. :D

Had a half-vegan day yesterday.

AR

sflake 10-31-2003 07:49 AM

:bravo: Rowan and Aquareggie!

squeaker 10-31-2003 08:34 AM

Congrats to all the losers! :cp:

Ruthxxx 10-31-2003 11:00 AM

Good for the losers!
I went in reverse for various reasons which included jujubes but am looking forward to the next challenge.
