Penguin Your Bible study sounds like our Book Club. We find that getting sidetracked serves our purpose in getting to know each other. too. I find that very helpful. Located ones who think closer to my way, and some having same interests. After the book Club we had lots to talk about, and at Church Sunday I'm sure more will go on. Understand Migraines very well. Finally out grew them in my 70's and actually could eat what ever I wanted at last dinner. I used to work so hard that I was in bed and the bathroom sick while family and guests enjoyed what I cook. DH did most of cooking and Pat (one of our ddaughters) did clean up. I really got off easy.
DH went to Men's group this morning. 6 very compatible men, with DH being oldest. They have a book on Mercy that they use, but also lots of men-talk. He loves going to our old Church for this and for Thursday's Bible Study, but not fo Sunday Mass because he cannot understand the service nor the homily. Very frustrating. That is why we travel a bit further to other Church for Mass where he can hear very, very well.
Pat, DH and I went to Gym for almost an hour and I was pleased with more reps on all machines than I did on Wednesday and still feel fine. So cold outside I can't go walk (Asthma says no go below 45 deg.)
Corrina is the cold in USA worse than when you were in southern hemisphere?
Sandy-I am use to sun and dry weather. So the all day rain/snow mix yesterday got me running to my closest for more layers to wear for warmth. Today is a bit warmer and sunny. I spent part of the day playing with the dog and this afternoon we will walk through the neighborhoods. Of course, I will still have to wear a jacket and head cover, but the sun is much nicer. No loss for me this week, but a new week has started and I am ready to get things moving.
Corinna Our daughter moved back east from Sunny high desert in Oregon. She is really having time with the dreary days.
I weigh tomorrow and am hoping for good news. Tried a walk, but after yesterday's time in gym and pushing so hard this week, we couldn't walk as far as I wanted to. Every little bit helps.
Good morning all, and I wish it were a nicer day...we're looking for an all-day rain, I'm afraid.
Worked all weekend at my mother's house, carting all her stuff into my garage in prep for our garage sale April 21. We REALLY have a lot of stuff. I just hope to sell most of it so I'm not stuck dragging so much to goodwill.
I did lose a little weight - down to 170.5 but I should be lower than that. When working with the group, we all had sandwiches, but I was so hungry I had to eat something!
My migraine came back Sunday afternoon and I'm still being careful about what I do. I've been battling them for about 30 years, the started shortly after my first eye surgery, so I blamed that for many years, they usually start in the socket of my right eye, but then they suddenly started switching sides in my 30's, so now I'm not sure. A knitting friend in her 60s suddenly started getting very similar headaches about a year ago. She had all sorts of tests run, but never found out why they started.
So nothing much to report this weekend, I did do better on my eating. I decided to have a weighin day of Wednesday, and dreamed about scales last night. That was weird, but I also dreamed about decluttering.
Andi, I hear you on the rain. We had flooding a few weeks ago and here it is raining again, some thunder mixed in also. Its supposed to stop around 2am, at least.
Hi Sandy, the ground here is pretty much saturated, so we don't need the rain right now. My one chance to mow my yard was Sunday, but I was at my Mom's house all day, so I missed it and the yard is starting to look like a hay field haha.
Penguin, sorry to hear about your migraines...I have a blogger friend who used to get them, but when he decided to switch to drinking water only (and more than he used to) the migraines have not returned. Sounds cheap and healthy! Just wanted to pass that on.
Lisa I did as you did. Hormone replacement therapy till news came out then stopped, it was about 4 years while I was still working at advice of my gyn. Actually Bone Scan showed good bones and Last scan over 2 years ago. No weight loss nor did I expect any. Sit down job had left little time to do my normal 4 mile walks and I actually gained.
Sandy
Also, would like to add, I have read that treatment with bioidentical HRT medications is not often prescribed for the sole purpose of ridding the body of excess pounds. There has to be a viable deficiency before it is approved and even makes sense, to prescribe these treatments.
It's been busy at my house with the GS prep and all, and I'm sure you're getting tired of hearing about it all. Ordering signs today an will place an ad in the newspaper, and then announcements on Craig's List and our neighborhood blog.
Lisa, the Bioidentical Hormone Replacement is supposed to be so much better than HRT. As I understand it, they send saliva samples to a lab to determine what your hormone needs are, and will prescribe if you are deficient in some. I wouldn't hesitate to use them if needed!
Chicks, something I observed this past week is that I may not be eating enough at the right time, which sparks cravings later in the day...
I'm generally not hungry in the mornings, so I just drink my coffee. Feeling good about not eating much, I'll usually just eat something small for lunch (usually a salad or soup with a small piece of protein). Of course come about 3 - 5pm, I'm famished and have cravings for carbs and sweets.
I tried switching that up and making sure I have a protein for breakfast (HB egg) and a bigger lunch (such as a piece of salmon and broccoli leftovers). Surprise, I don't have the cravings in the afternoon! I made a thin porkchop with veggies for dinner and was not hungry at all...and I've been losing this week. Go figure, I think I was just not eating enough nutritious food early in the day to keep me going. Anyway, I wanted to share that.
It's a beautiful day here and I will be working in the yard after work! I finally got it mowed last night, but it was so long that I have to rake it now.
webwoman Good for you adjusting how you eat! the three meals a day and a very small snack is recommended by most diets and also sites for healthy eating. I'm doing that with breakfast my largest meal. 2 eggs, whole grain bread plane, raw grapefruit, 1% milk. I go 5 hours easily on this. Lunch is left overs or 1/2 peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread and milk. Snack often apple or Kashi TLC bar or hand full of nuts. Supper DH fixes a meat or fish (not fried) green veggie and carb like sweet potatoes, beans or corn. Sometimes a light salad. Weight is moving slightly.
Corrina, Perhaps the double winter has you sick and tired of not seeing sunshine. Hope your area receives fair sunshine this summer.
We've still only received less than an inch of rain in 4 parts in past 2+ weeks. Not normal for spring. So far grass, DH cuts high, is green and lush and he mows 2 times a week, normal for spring.
Tried walking 3/4 mile and made it, but left knee is not happy. Still have lots of weight to loose before surgery. At this rate I'll be too old for surgery.
Trillium blooming white in garden. A sure sign of spring in the woods. We captured some and they've multiplied nicely in 4 areas of our back yard. Seem to like semi shade best.
I got on the scale Wednesday and realized I had gained 10lbs since the last time I had weighed, probably close to 8 months ago, so that was discouraging. I'm trying to cut down on my portion sizes and move more. I used to be very into exercise so I've tried a few things here and there {no pressure!} to see what I would be interested in picking up again.
Today, Hubby and I ran a bunch of errands we've been putting off for weeks. Not much fun there but it was good to get out of the house.
Hi Chicklets, hope you all are doing fine. Congratulations Andi on you recent drop in weight. That's great! You will keep us all motivated. No change for me this week. It was busy with a husband sick with the flu and then another round of kidney stones for me. So not a good week. However, today was sunny and warmer, so a good start to a new week and both of us feeling better. Lets get those bodies moving.
Corrina Wow, Flue for him and Kidney stones for you. Worse than a gold dreary winter for sure. Hope all improves very soon.
Gardening and getting very dry land watered with water company expensive stuff. My son usedl to live near a large river and he plumbed up a line and pump to bring that river water up to water his yard and garden. Wish we could.
Walking is getting easier. 3/4 mile today WITHOUT having to stop and rest. This is best for 2016. Will continue it but slow going.
Cutting calories but on very healthy diet, increased activity, and one pound gone in April. It went up and down 3 pounds during the month but has finally settled on 1 pound gone. If I live to 100 I bet I'll be at a good weight!!!
Just a quick check in. I hope everyone is well. Tried to mow the yard today. Push mower wouldn't start no matter how may times I yanked that doggone rope. Acts like spark plug is fouled. Climbed on the riding mower and mowed a strip about two feet long before the tire decided to go flat. Dug through garage and finally located portable compressor and extension cord, got it plugged in, dragged it out in the yard to where I abandoned the riding mower, only to discover tire had detached from rim. Should have just gone for a hike and called it a day.
Sandy: I did work in flower beds today, got my shade garden cleaned out and straightened up.
Corinna: I hope you and your DH are fully recovered.
Penguin: Don't be discouraged at the weight gain. Now that you know, you will be able to track your progress!
Terapet: I hope you are okay. Haven't seen you in quite some time.
Carol Sue: I hope you are okay as well. I see your name on the Golden Girl thread from time to time, so I figure you are fine and just not on this thread as much as you were.
Andi: Crunch time for you with your garage sale! Good luck! I hope the weather holds.
I'm going to try and get out for a walk before work tomorrow. I haven't been doing as much of that as I should. Need to drink much more water than I do as well. Those are goals for the remaining days of the week.
Hi all-I've missed you! I was just not up to focusing on weight loss for awhile there. But, I have been doing better lately. I am still working on cutting the alcohol calories. I did much better this week but it remains a challenge for me. I do like alcohol but it is so, so, so fattening! I must try to persevere and break that bad habit. I have been back to the Y for a few weeks now. I am feeling stronger but I don't think I can get where I want to be without losing ten pounds. I just don't feel I can safely stress myself too much when I know I have this extra weight on my middle. I feel so much lighter without it. So-hopefully I can make that happen over the next few months.
April-Those sound like trying times with your lawn equipment. Fortunately for me, mowing is in my DH's wheelhouse. I can't even start one! He does a lovely job though.
Sandy-Congrats on that one pound. Good goin'!
Corrina-Were you able to get outside and get moving? What outdoor activities do you enjoy? I like gardening and hiking.
Penguin-Hi! I have gained in the last year also. What kind of exercise are you considering?
Andi-I am a proponent of three meals a day. It is the plan that works best for me. I used to get by without snacking but not so much lately.
