Good Saturday Morning, Goldies!
I hope everyone is having a better day today. Gosh, so many having health and family health problems. My heart goes out to you all.
Jess, I'm glad your treatments are doing you so much good. If you have to suffer through them, then at least it's worth it if you get benefit from the pain.
Lynn, good outlook. No sweets for today, then do it again tomorrow and before you know it, 3 wks will have gone by and they say (whoever 'they' are) that if you do something for 3 weeks it becomes a habit. Good job!
Carol Sue, I wish the very best for you and your DIL. How old is she? It sounds like she must be at a pretty young age to be developing a tremor.
It may be that the dosage of Synthroid is too high for you. Before they radiated my thyroid, I slowly lost a tremendous amount of weight, without trying, this all happened over about a years time, and I was working and going to school and a lot of other stuff going on at the same time, so I thought it was just because I was so very busy. But, then I started having extremely heavy menstruations, and in between, and everything seemed to be happening at once. Then I started having spells where my heart was pounding and I was having extreme dizzy spells, to the point that I had to pull over when driving and finally at work one night I thought I was going to pass out. I called the Dr and he said to come in. They ran a lot of tests and it revealed that my thyroid was producing twice or more the normal amt of hormone, and they found nodules on my thyroid. They discovered I had Graves disease and toxic nodular goiter, so they radiated my thyroid and it no longer functions at all so I'll be on synthroid or levothyroxine the rest of my life. So, if you have an excess of thyroid hormone circulating, it can cause dizzy spells. They'll probably reduce the dose or take you off it.
Rosey, I've never before heard of anyone coughing up their toenails. I do hope the meds they gave you are working. Nothing worse than having difficulty breathing.
You are an angel for trying to give a home to a pet. He was marking his territory right away, but you wouldn't want a dog who pee's all over your house. How old is the dog? Maybe the owners don't know how to house break a dog?
Gayle, hope you're enjoying your weekend away from work. Some days I wish I were working yet and some days I'm so glad I don't HAVE to be anywhere at any specific time. When all is done with my house, I think I'll look for something to do a couple days a week. No volunteer yet because they're calling all the time and I have a hard time saying "no". ..............
Karen3, gosh, I feel bad for you being in so much pain. I remember before my hip resurfacing, I had to go off anti-inflammatories and it was awful. I was using a cane as it was, but then with no pain meds it was torture.
Is it your hip that you're having the arthroscopic surgery on? Torn labrum? Or is it your knee? Geez, I hope the afib don't throw a monkey wrench in the plans. Best to you.
Dee, it has to be so overwhelming for you with all that you have going on. I'm sending the very best thoughts out for your hubby's outcome. I think you should make him go in now too. 3 months is an awful long time if it's a malignancy. It would be a shame to miss out on the criuse but it would be even more tragic if a malignancy were ignored.
I hear what you're saying about the carbs.
I went back on the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, and I feel pretty good. My blood sugar is really showing the effects of it. I was so out of control with my eating and not doing daily activities and my B S was in the 180's, FASTING, and once recently even 204 fasting. It is slowly coming down, and it was 133 this morning. Still not GOOD but a lot better, and my daytime readings are anywhere from 114 to 94.
I went on this way of eating 7 or 8 yrs ago and lost over 50 lbs, and felt great, but, foolishly, started to gradually, slowly, put more carbs into my eating and before I knew it a few years had passed and I was at my highest weight PLUS I had developed diabetes.
I will always have to eat low carb, I know that now. That doesn't mean NO carb, just LOW carb.
Cajun, I hope you're enjoying you weekend at camp.
What are the chances that your sons former boss will hire someone else, thinking that your son isn't coming back? geez, your son is kind of between a rock and a hard place. I wish him well.
Bobbi, did you get any snow last night? I thought we were suppose to get some but didn't see anything. Of course, I was downstairs a lot of the time too, but nothing showing this morning when I got up.
We're suppose to get maybe up to 3 to 4 inches tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it.
The guys haven't been here since a week ago this past Wednesday. I suspect they're doing other jobs they had started before they came to do the outdoor digging etc at my house. Now that they've got the foundation work done, I suppose they have to finish up other stuff and then will tackle the rest of the work here. I really don't mind, as long as it gets done by next spring, and I told them that. They're young guys trying to make a living like everyone else and I've watched them work and they're very hard workers. I wonder though, how they're going to get the chimney removed from above the roof if it's snowing or the roof has snow on it. Yikes. I'll be a nervous wreck worrying that they're going to fall. They laugh when I say that. Kids!
Fit4life, (I shortened it, hope you don't mind) Welcome, and hope to see more of you. More often, that is. What are Wonderslim products? Is it a special program like Jenny Craig, or just a separate weight loss product?
Whatever it is, I hope you have success with your plan. Let us know, ......
Meandu, glad you joined us. Stop in and let us know how you're doing. Are you ready for the holidays? I don't mean just foodwise, but all the shopping etc. I'm not having anything for Christmas. The kids will have their Christmas' at their homes, and I'm going to have a get together and give the grands their gifts next summer when I've got all this stuff done with my house.
I need to get up and move. Hope you all have a great weekend! .....

Hi Carbie,
My DD has been dealing with Graves Disease since last summer. She just went to Univ of Penn Hospital for a second opinion. First doctor was treating her with meds, but they were not controlling the symptoms. New doctor says she definitely needs radiation. I am VERY relieved. The racing heart sessions have been scaring us a lot.
DD is a marathon runner. Her biggest fear about changing from hyper to hypo is that she will not have the energy to run.
Yes Lynn, I'm able to do everything I could do before, but, after they radiated it I went extremely low and they had to keep increasing the amt of synthroid every couple of months. It takes a few weeks for it to level out in your system. During the time it is low, she may feel tired, and cold. They started me out at 50 micrograms / day, and increased it by 12.5 MCG a few times, but then increased it by 25 mcg each time for a while. I'm on 200 mcg for a few years now. If she's like me, she will gain weight very easily though.
My DIL had half of her thyroid removed surgically and took Synthroid for a few years, but stopped taking it about 3 yrs ago and so far her level is normal, so the half of her thyroid she still has is producing enough hormone for her. She had a pretty good sized goiter too before they did surgery. She has to stay active to keep her weight down too, but she has no problem with that. Walks a lot every evening with my son. They're both thin.
Good luck to your daughter. .....
P. S. Does she have any signs of exopthalmia (bulging eyes) yet? Hopefully she wont.
Golden Girls –
It’s so good to be back. I read through the posts and always find something that makes me laugh or teaches me something. Thank you for your support. I’m feeling better about everything since I told you all. Carbie and Rosey – I got him to agree to see the local ENT that discovered the MCL when he removed some of the original tumor. Hope he can get in next week. He’ll be able to see if it’s nothing or order up a scan to see if it might be something. It’s time to get a local doc involved again.
Karen 3 – I’m very sorry about what you’re going through with trying to get to this knee surgery. How did they take care of the Afib when you had it before? You get so sick of dealing with the pain, get yourself psyched to get the surgery over with, and look forward to feeling better. Before my shoulder surgery the doc said I could take the RX pain med that was not an anti inflammatory, Hydrocodone . It really helped. Now that I’ve got both shoulders “fixed” I’m ready for grandkids – until I have to deal with knees and hips. I loved hearing about your DH’s thoughtfulness. And it’s great when you make a “glitch” about him! You are so wry and funny and I really relate – I think many of us do. Nobody complains about their DH as much as I do. There is no one I’ve met that I would trade him for though and I don’t want to live without him. That is not to say that I wouldn’t love to change a number of things about him! Some I’ve given up on, (cleanliness) some I’ve learned to say, “It is absolutely essential if you want me around,” (paying for decent hotel rooms,) and some are still a struggle, (the near death experience I have when he drives.)
Gayle – I’m so with you on drinking the water. The diet plan that I’m on (till I succumb to the late night evil carbs) really insists on drinking at least 64 oz. of water. I’m fine if I’m going to be home but even just running errands and especially traveling – just can’t do it. I’ve become very familiar with adult disposable underwear, (Depends) due to my parents. I may have to start! I laughed when you said you are going to “that place.” Hope you get to your days off quickly.
Bobbi- Sorry if your buyers didn’t work out. Been there. Sometimes they’re “reaching” for a place that is out of their budget. Happened to us 13 years ago and our realtor was trying to make us swallow it. He will never be our realtor again. We ended up selling to someone else.
Cajun – THROW OUT THE FRUIT CAKE! And you can honestly say that your enjoyed it very much and that it is gone already
Welcome Time! You are so active. I look forward to getting to know you. This group has talked me off the ledge a few times…
Donna – so glad that you are getting such great results. I know about the pain – I’m still getting pain from my physical therapist in order to have a better outcome. Hopefully it will get less painful as time goes on.
Lynn – thank you for the site. I will check it out. I’m involved with a couple of MCL specific groups. What kind of lymphoma did you have? Amazing that you did a marathon with your daughter.
Carole Sue - sorry about what you and your DIL are going through. Hope it all goes well. I just started making brisket a couple of years ago. It can be hard to spot. I don't think you would seem stupid if you asked the butcher.
I'm gonna post this. HUGS to all!
Hi ladies, I'm sorry to hear so many are having some health issues but I know that all of us feel better if we can get some of the extra weight off. It is amazing how after 50 our bodies start falling apart! That being said, I'm still very grateful to be in reasonably good health and able to enjoy life. My dear cousin (age 59) died today. I'm so sad. She was injured a week ago and broke her neck. The pain meds caused her colon to become blocked and during surgery the colon ruptured. Her 85 yr old parents had to go and give the okay to remove her from the machines and let her body rest. She was the sole caregiver to her parents having never married.
I think this puts a lot in perspective for me. Yes, I'm going to lose weight but I'm also going to try to remember to take time to be grateful just to be alive each day and appreciate the chance to spend time with my family and friends.
God bless you all and may God give you healing for your bodies and your souls. I know he has blessed me.
Evening ladies....I am sitting here just amazed....I tell all the new golden chicks we pull ourselves up to the table and pour a cuppa and solve everything because at one time another one of us has been there or done that. This past week has been the a perfect example of just that. You all are awesome. I have spent most of my life in some form of sisterhood....1st in a seminary for girls for 4 yrs then 40 yrs of nursing...there's a good reason why the Brits call nurses "sister" and now in my senior life I have found another sisterhood. Night my dears sleep well.....k3
Hello everyone! Gayle. I'm with you we need to have a "LIKE" button for Karens' post!
So sorry to hear about your cousin Time2BF4L...Here comes a BIG CYBER HUG to you!
Donna-- so glad to hear that those treatments are working for you and making you feel so much better.
Dee and Lynn, hope things go well for you both too.
Well, It is getting late and I did get all the sqaures done today. Now I have to put a border around 18 of the squares that are left (just one row around each square) then put them together and make the rows. I'll post a picture as soon as I get done.. hopefully sometime this week. But for now my fingers are tired and my eyes are crossed!! LOL Have a good night
One day down ~ two to go. The inspectors are supposed to come this week. "They" say probably this week. I hope they do come and get it over with ~ this waiting and being on pins and needles is not fun. Everybody is tense and uptight and trying to make the place perfect. "They" have more or less kind of taken over our lives ~ put a hold on anybody asking for any time off. (That is why I say ~ the inspectors had better come like "they" think, this week and get this over with so we can get our lives back.) Requesting that people come in extra or work over trying to spiff the place up ~ and see that everything is in order and perfect. They have made up a booklet for us to study so that if we are asked questions we will hopefully remember and know the answers. The thing is ~ exactly when are we supposed to read this? ~ it is too busy during work to do it. When I get home ~ either my head is aching for one reason or another and I certainly don't feel like studying or thinking about "that place". Or, I have things of my own I need to do.
One of the things "they" are wanting us to do is make sure everything is clean and dusted. As I was getting ready for work yesterday ~ looking around my bedroom at the dust that has built up and feeling growly that "they" want us to dust and clean and I can't even have time to clean my own house. Then I feel guilty ~ like I am not a very dedicated employee ~ that I should care more about "that place".
It was funny ~ yesterday ~ the charge nurse was telling that one of the pharmacy people was telling that they had asked them to come in extra/stay over to dust there and that lady was saying the exact same thing I was thinking ~ what the heck ~ I can't even have time to clean my own house and "they" expect us to give up our precious time to clean there.
Ok, enough griping. I feel guilty even doing it here because some of you are facing much more serious/important things. Sorry then ~ but thank you for letting me vent.
At least I enjoy my coworkers ~ that is a bright spot among all the rest of this "stuff".

Hi Carbie,
No eye problems. Basically, rapid heart beat, loss of hair, hot flashes, and difficulty making decisions.
Good Morning Goldies!
We have beautiful, beautiful snow!
Ya, I know, ..... I probably wont be saying that if we have a normal winter, but, it's been so long since we had any snow, and at least it gives color to the landscape. The branches and twigs are all covered with snow and it's still falling. beautiful. No wind, ... 34 degrees. I'm not going to shovel until it quits snowing.
I'll probably have to shovel again tomorrow, but, it's going to have to wait until tomorrow night because I'm going to be gone all day tomorrow. I'm going to apply for a part time job at a couple places. I need to be around people and be busy more than I have been recently. Then I'm going to be at a defensive driving course from 12:30 to 6:30 tomorrow night, so I'll have a full day. My auto insurance is reduced by 10% if I take these courses every 3 yrs.
Will do personals next time. But, Karen3, your profound statement touched my heart greatly. Bravo!
Hello to everyone. Just wanted to pop in and say "hey!" .....
Hi- on way to get Dparents for DM's birthday party.
Time2b4- so sorry about your loss. Sometimes life seems so unfair. Big hugs to you.
Gayle - another inspection?! And don't they have people to dust? The same people that mop?
Gotta run - hugs to u all!
Good luck, Carbie, on your PT job search! I work PT, and it's all I can handle. It's good that I have to get into the shower and then have to actually talk to people; otherwise, I'd just sit around until I was rotten.
Did GM's grocery shopping earlier. I was so leery, because last week's foray leveled me and left me in tears from the pain; however, so far, so good today! The hip is a little tender, but nothing I can't handle. I'm doing my exercises almost faithfully, and the treatments really seem to be working. YAY!! Stopped at Great Clips on the way home and got my hairs trimmed, too. All in all, it was a productive outing.
I'm off to do a little laundry and them some gorking. Hope you're all well, healthy, and enjoying your Sunday! Later, lovelies!
