I grew up in the city, and we NEVER had a snow day. We walked to school, a couple blocks away. I never gave a thought to how the teachers got there, but it was business as usual. Even highschool, which was further away, never closed for snow. Some kids were bussed to our high school from smaller communities nearby and they wouldn't be there, but it was opened and I was always there.
Donna, thank you for the Bisquick link. We buy off-brand baking mix from Aldi's but it's the same as Bisquick. Do you know, I've been married for 31 years and didn't know my husband likes biscuits? I made some Pillsbury's Grands for something extra at Thanksgiving but he didn't eat any. A couple days later, he asked for biscuits. I said "Why didn't you eat any at Thanksgiving?" and he replied, "I was afraid there wouldn't be enough for everyone else." So now I'll be making biscuits for him.

Hello goldies
Today is my last day of work for 2 weeks. I'm packing for the camp. I shouldn't be going with all the baking I need to do. Dh said we will come back Sunday and bake and season pork roast and beef brisket. I'm not going to panic. I'm hoping for a peaceful holiday season. We leave for the camp Christmas night or Wednesday morning until January 6. I'm excited.
Merry Christmas to all. Hope your christmas is good.
Hello Golden Girls,
Just wanted to drop by and let you know I'm new here. I look forward to talking with you and gaining wisdom on how to finally start dropping all this weight....I'm laughing over the fact that it's only 3 more days till Christmas and I've thrown my back out....great way not to have to bake, but a bear to have to get boarding dogs outside every couple of hours to pee...Ha Hope all is doing well and wishing each and every one of you a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year.
Dogpaws4ever, or better known as Rhonda
Welcome Rhonda ~ it is kind of quiet on the thread right now ~ probably everyone busy with holiday preperations ~ but it will pick up after ~ we can be quite "wordy" at times ~ LOL. Look forward to getting to know you.
Rhonda...yes, we do get gabby. We are look forward to getting to know you. I'm sure everyone will be sticking close to their diet plans AFTER CHRISTMAS. I know I will.
We're going to my brothers house tomorrow with all my family, 2 brothers/wives and 2 sisters/spouses. We are carrying on the tradition of always going to our parents house. Sadly they are both gone, we don't do gifts....just a grazing table with all sorts of junk foods.
Then Christmas day we have Christmas at our home with our daughter and two grandsons. I hope they like the blue jean quilts I made them.
Have a wonderful Christmas everyone.
Merry Christmas all.....We celebrate our Christmas tomorrow evening and have come full circle. From just 2 of us the first year to 20+ back to just us 2. Had to put my foot down when DH suggested hamburgers! No diet foods rib eye steaks instead of prime rib, gorgonzola scalloped potatoes and brussel sprouts with bacon...oh and home made apple pie.
Hope Santa is good to you all and brings a joyfull Christmas to everybody. k3
Hello Goldie's
Camp is clean and ready for my 2 weeks stay after Xmas. Headed home to bake 5 pies, fruit salad, and season meat for Xmas.
I would like to wish each and every one of you a very merry and blessed Christmas. I would also like to thank y'all for being there for me while I'm on this weight loss journey. I'm hopeing to get control of it after Xmas. Thanks again.
Welcome Rhonda. Looking forward to getting to know you.
We had a GREAT NYC trip - Rockettes in Radio City, tree in Rockerfeller Center, 4 Christmas Markets, a play (Once), and WONDERFUL dinners.
Of course, my DD kept us hopping - up and down subway stairs, up and down and across town, and up late night and early mornings. However, I have had a couple of days to recuperate & now can just enjoy the memories.
Lynn - your trip sounded wonderful... and it seems that your DD is feeling much better?
Busy day today... physical therapy at 10, then a visit to Aunty Ann, then Christmas with GM and my sister this afternoon, then the annual party at my bro and his wife's house. Tomorrow is the big blowout with the ex-in-laws (in-laws and out-laws!)... I'll be a wreck by Wednesday. Socializing wears me out!
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, healthy, and happy, and contented!! I hope Santa is good to you, too!!
Hello everyone! I heard some were wondering about me, so thought I'd post an update. We went to Cabo San Jose/San Lucas for a week. We had a great time ..the weather was so nice and balmy. We didn't do a lot but it was a nice relaxing week. We hung out at the resort a lot on our patio or by the pool by day and the hot tub by night and we walked the beach. The resort is right on the beach. Ate most meals at the onsite or nearby restaurants...only eating leftovers and some instant oatmeal I brought in the condo. I got enough Mexican food (which I like) to last me for a while by the time we left.
We were amazed how much the area has grown since we were last there! Didn't seem like the same place even! We shopped a little in San Jose a couple days. There is now a nice highway where it was a dirt road. Everything was so clean. I didn't buy anything for myself because I saw nothing I needed. I saw a few things I liked but I don't need them. I have become the lady who has everything I guess. I never dreamed that would ever be me.. but I've been so blessed! One night we took the pirate dinner cruise. Joe won his ticket in a drawing at the resort but had to pay for mine. By the time you pay the cab both ways and tip everyone, it gets kinda spendy but we did enjoy being out on the water. The entertainment was just ok to us but they served a good meal. Trying to get your (buffet style) meal in a rocking boat was a little difficult and something I never tried before. LOL Guess it kept me from eating so much. We took some pictures plus we bought some pictures taken of us on the boat. Walking back to find a cab, we explored the new mall they have in Cabo San Lucas at the marina. It is really beautiful! They had nothing like that the last time were were there. We stopped and enjoyed some gelatto at one of the shops. I love being able to eat outside as here at home it is not often we can do that comfortably. That was the only time we went to Cabo San Lucas on this trip. We have always preferred San Jose. We met nice people all along the way and ran into several from the NW US and BC.
The last couple days of our trip I had laryngitis and an occasional slight headache. Didn't really think much about it. We rarely drink alcohol and there were had 1-3 mixed drinks most days so I figured it was that. By the time we got home I had a sore throat. I then got a call from my sister telling me my brother seemed to be getting worse. We decided to fly out, making reservation for a night flight I could get with FF miles although dh had to pay over $1600...for a terrible 12+ hour flight going from Portland, to Salt Lake City, to Atlanta and then back to Springfield. There was a 3+ layover in Salt Lake and 2 hrs in Atlanta! That night my cold got worse...my throat hurt bad and my head and face hurt terribly. The next morning, I didn't know what to do. We had prayed for wisdom. I don't want to miss my brother but didn't feel good enough to fly plus didn't want to expose my already compromised brother and other family there. I called my doctor's nurse hoping just to bounce it off her and get some insight. Amazingly the doc had a cancellation that very morning, so I went in and he did not recommend I fly, not only because of the great discomfort it would put on my already congested sinuses but also because of exposing my brother and the rest of my family. He said if I had to fly to take Sudafed but only if my BP wasn't high. Then he looked at my BP was already high. He said don't fly. Well, on the way home, I just had to try it...I got some Sudafed and took it right away. Of course, my BP jumped up and remained very high for about 4 days. In fact it still is a little high and my pulse has also been high. The Sudafed helped my congestion but I can't risk the high BP, so won't take it anymore. So we decided not to fly out. This is the 3rd time we have cancelled this trip!! Fortunately this time it did not cost us since it was within 24 hrs of our booking.
Two days later the doc called and said I tested positive for Influenza A even though I had the flu shot. He said it should be a mild case and the fact I have no fever makes me less likely to be so infectious but that I should lie low for a while and recover. He also put us both on antivirual med so I could hopefully get well faster and to prevent dh from getting it. Dh has no symptoms and I am better but it has taken much longer than I expected. My symptoms now are more like a bad cold...I have a bad cough esp at night, a very runny (and now sore!)nose and I am extremely tired. I asked the doc for some cough syrup with codeine in it as I remember it helped so much in the past. I got it but it really doesn't help much this time, so I was disappointed. I was really looking forward to it easing my cough and putting me to sleep.
So far my brother is hanging in there and I'm still hoping to be able to see him one more time, but if I don't get to here on Earth, I know I'll see him in Heaven one day. He says he wants to go "home to glory," and seems to be trying to prepare his wife so I don't think he has long but you never know how long.
I'm hoping I'll be well enough to go to our dds tomorrow for a few hours and have Christmas with them. I am glad I shopped before we left on our trip so I only had one of their gifts to buy after I got back. I had dh take me out one day on a very fast dash into a store keeping a scarf over my mouth and nose most of the time. Then the next day I wrapped everything before falling exhausted into bed. LOL That's what I do these days...I do one task a day and thats it. Dh is doing his own cooking. Amazingly very little food interests me...I can't even imagine eating meat and vegetables, but I do drink milk and orange juice, and eat fresh fruit. Last night I broadened my menu by making myself an egg sandwich and was surprised I could eat it. That makes me think I'm getting better but it is so rare that I am not hungry even when sick. I've lost over 7# in the last week. I'm sure as soon as I'm all well, I'll more than make that up, knowing me though. I'm hoping tomorrow, Christmas Day I'll wake up feeling much better and able to eat my dd's wonderful meal. I've had enough of being sick, it is time to get well and on with life. The infectious stage should be over I think but I am still reluctant to be around people when I'm still coughing.
I'm tired now so no personals...I'm so behind it would take forever now anyway. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
Mary, so sorry to hear about your brother but love your attitude. I'm glad to hear that you are beginning to feel better now and just don't try to push to hard to get everything done at once when you do feel like you are 99%...Love ya' and missed you. You and Joe have a Blessed Christmas and just take care of each other...
